401  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best alternative investments? on: March 07, 2018, 10:13:38 AM
Your income depends on your education. There are many ways to have an income. No one knows your powers. Now education is worth the money. You have to find an acceptable way of income for yourself. Many people think that bitcoins fall from the sky. But it is not. It takes a lot of work to be able to earn bitcoins.
Income does not have anything to do with education; it is just on how smart you are, while education is an added advantage. I have seen a lot of people without much extensive education doing well in investments and all they need is just to understand the area of investment, do some little bit of research themselves and take the risk. That is all it is and at the end of the day, just do your part and your best irrespective where you are investing into.

That was true until now, but the current trend is to have new opportunities for the tech savvy. An average citizen with no IT background will never succeed in setting up a domestic mining rig or getting a full understanding of crypto, blockchain, ToR and all the other tech stuff.

Besides, there is also an increasing social media factor influencing the crypto trends. Organized pump&dump schemes will easily lure the not to savvy people.

Let's face it, this is still a niche activity where only the ones with some knowledge can get good results.

Therefore, education is key to success in crypto. Not a formal education, like PhD but IT/social media/net stuff.
402  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to choose good coin!? on: March 07, 2018, 09:44:42 AM
You should try to focus your attention more on the crypto-currencies that have a lot of users using it and trading it on the trading market, as the price of these altcoins would always have a higher chance to recover its price during a huge price dip in the crypto-currencies trading market.

Trading volume by itself can be a misleading factor if taken out of the coin's tech specs context.

All PoS v3 coins have a significant portion of the current supply locked away inside the masternode supporting the network. This is a feature, not a weakness. With PoS coins people keep their coins staking inside their wallets thus generating income.

For instance,  DMD has ~51% of the existing coins inside masternodes and that is a good thing, aimed at keeping a stable price.

Therefore, a coin with relatively low volume can still be a good coin
403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MINT] Mintcoin (POS / 5%) [NO ICO] [Fair distro, community maintained] on: March 06, 2018, 10:04:13 PM
Can somebody help me please? My wallet is staking evry day, but all of the coins minted are not confirmed and not accepted - what's the fault ?

you could be on a fork, check you block height with this block explorer:
https://prohashing.com/explorer/Mintcoin/

Everything is ok, my wallet is at the same state, as shown in the explorer - any other ideas ?

Its still the same issue

Is your PC time properly synced?

Try closing the wallet, leave it for 30 minutes and try again. I know it sounds silly but it works!
404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2018 seems like a good year for ALTCOIN on: March 06, 2018, 11:50:43 AM
This year we can see a lot of regulations and rules for crypto-currencies, which are now being prepared by the state. But I think it's good for everyone who wants honest deals with secure platforms. This year will be very important for the crypto market.

I agree with you that this year is going to be very important for crypto. I also agree that some regulations are needed and if done properly some light regulations can boost crypto market. But I am very worry about the way regulations will be made and are they going to have the positive impact, that we hope.

Indeed, regulation can be a two edged sword. But we need to stop this ICO mania... There are several good altcoin projects that will thrive in 2018. But we need to establish a sound reputation, crypto has to be seen as an honest activity.

All the shitcoins and scam ICOs are creating a wave of discredit. And that is never a good thing.
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin on: March 06, 2018, 11:38:11 AM
BTC wil keep the leading position for sometime not because its a better crypto asset but because it is the one everyone knows about.

But we've recently witnessed how hard it is to create a consensus in BTC's dev community thus resulting in multiple forks.

ETH appears to be in a better shape when it comes to development so it has a clear shot to surpass BTC in a few years. But it will take time and effort...
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what to do if bitcoin decreases? on: March 06, 2018, 11:30:50 AM
The reaction to BTC's prices fluctuations will depend on the type of involvement you have with crypto:

- If you are a day trader mainly involved in BTC, then a price decrease might be a good opportunity to buy. Unless you are already buried because you've bought at a highest level.

- If you are a long term investor, it might be a good idea to buy a little but watch out for the trends in the altcoins.

In the past BTC/alt pairing was always the same; BTC on the rise meant all alts bleeding. That is not true anymore so now one must look for alternatives.

407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The perfect currency? on: March 05, 2018, 10:06:20 AM
The perfect currency for me is the bitcoin. Eve though all crypto currency are not perfect and has its differences and volatile value, but still i can say that bitcoin is the best coin for me. It operates a very long time and actually this coins was already regulated in some other countries and being used already in everywhere.

I respect your opinion but BTC is far from perfect. Very high fees, slow transactions, huge power consumption...

There is no such thing as a perfect asset/currency. We will have to select the one appropriate for a specific application.

Right now, I believe some of the PoS v3 altcoins are better than BTC.

But that's just my opinion  Grin
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: It's Time to Buy Alt Coin on: March 05, 2018, 09:53:40 AM
Altcoins are a safe bet, if you choose the right one.

There is no such thing as a "right time" or a "wrong time" to buy; there are better and worst occasions.

If you make a good, well panned bet, the timing will always be right and it will pay off in the long run.

Make your research, take you time and invest in a handful of altcoins.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you truly believe in cryptocurrency on: March 05, 2018, 09:42:41 AM
I believe that cryptocurrencies are the next stage of evolution of money and how value is shared
over the internet in a decentralized fashion. Getting rich by holding good coins is a nice side benefit!

But crypto is a lot more than just profit, benefit, getting rich fast!

Crypto assets and blockchains techs have the potential to change the world by altering the way we interact with each other and even with financial institutions.

This is really a brave new world but if the vast majority of crypto enthusiast keep using crypto only to make a profit, then the potential for change will be lost.

Crypto is now being used for a growing number of scams, just like fiat was when Ponzy created the first pyramid scheme.

Let's work together to put all these new technologies to a better use than pure and simple financial speculation. For that, we already have the Wall Street mafia...
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do we Need Altcoin? on: March 05, 2018, 09:34:21 AM
Most users here are only justifying the need for altcoins based on the prospect of profit. But altcoins are much more than that!

BTC might be the flagship but the rest of the crypto armada has a number of very promising ships, with very good tech solutions and clear vision for the future.

Crypto is not only about profit! Crypto might actually change the world as we know it and altcoins we play a major role in that change.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is best PoS coin to invest into right now? on: March 04, 2018, 11:02:02 AM

412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what to do if bitcoin decreases? on: March 04, 2018, 10:55:33 AM
Now I'm waiting for the rise in the price of bitcoin. In February, I bought bitcoin for 7K and I hope to get 100-200% profit by the end of spring.

Now imagine the feeling of those who bought at 19k...  Roll Eyes
413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Will Kill Cash ? Is this True on: March 04, 2018, 10:54:24 AM
I personally do not believe the cash will be replaced by whatever the crypto, although I hope to be mistaken.
The crypto are more to be a value reserve, as are gold or stock markets.
Why do you think so? Cryptocurrency has all the preconditions to replace fiat money.

Really? Would you like to receive your salary in BTC and find the next morning it just suffered a devaluation  of 20% overnight?

Whether we like it or not, fiat will keep playing a major role in our lives due to it's stability.

Cryptos are becoming more and more attractive has commodities to invest in instead of leaving the money in the bank.

But I don't see how I can pay my groceries with crypto unstable has it is.
414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POW or POS? on: March 02, 2018, 12:06:26 PM
I started with crypto 4 years ago, mining BTC.

Now, 90% of my assets are PoS with the exception of two ETH mining rigs.

PoS is a better solution for the home enthusiast, specially in countries where electricity is not for free.
415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The perfect currency? on: March 02, 2018, 11:57:34 AM
Can anyone define perfection?

What's the perfect car? For some, the fastest. For others, the safest. Or the prettiest, or the most reliable, or the most expensive, or....

Perfections is an asymptotic line; we can only get so close but without ever really getting there.

Besides, it is good to have some variety. One currency to rule them all sounds like deja vu  Grin

416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Will Kill Cash ? Is this True on: March 02, 2018, 11:48:53 AM
Fiat is supported by the government and banks. I do not believe that cryptocurrencies are able to ever kill Fiat. But cryptocurrencies give people an alternative in their hands. Now banks and the government will have to compete with cryptocurrencies. If they unduly reduce the level of wages in the country, people will use cryptocurrency more. No need to starve or strike. Increasing the demand for labour will contribute to raising the level of wages.

That's the main difference between the so called crypto coins and fiat money; the later is currency and the former isn't!

A currency is supported by a central government, is regulated and paired with other currencies via institutional mechanisms.

No current crypto asset comes even close to the aforementioned definition, therefore it is incorrect to talk about "cryptocurrencies".

In our economic system fiat rules supreme because it is based on commodities like gold and oil.

The main role of crypto/blockchain technologies is to create an alternative way for people to makes transactions; faster, anonymous and without paying banks fees.

But replacing fiat will require a whole new world order and that's not around the corner...
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Study any Altcoins before Investment on: March 02, 2018, 01:58:14 AM
These are my criteria:

- Premined or not?

Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.

- ICO or no ICO?

I don't like ICOs, I prefer to invest in an already ongoing project with given proof of stability and endurance. I'm not saying all ICOs are scams, but same of them are for sure!

- How old is the coin?

In my book, if a coin is still being actively traded after 3/4 years of existence, this has to mean something; there is a faithful community behind it.

- Is it still being actively developed?

Following the previous point, if after 3/4 years the coin still has a dev team committed to it with real plans for the future, then it has a real project!

- Does it have any real use besides pure pump and dump speculation?

Is the coin being used for any kind of purchases? If not, are there any plans for it? Otherwise, it will only be a play toy for trading.

- Does it have an active and large community?

How large is the community? Is it still active or everybody left a long time ago?

- Is it PoW of PoS?

Proof of Work is a dead end, the power consumption is obscene. Not viable for the average domestic crypto enthusiast. Proof of Stake can be done with a Rasberry Pi Grin

- Fully functioning wallet?

Some coins have terrible wallets, unstable, not user friendly. This is a key factor, the software has to be in line with the state of the art crypto developments.

- What is the current marketcap?

A coin already above 100mil might not be the best bet if you can find a good one below 100 mil with a good growth perspective.

- What is the current/total coin supply?

Scarcity might prove to be an added value in the long run if you are planning to hold a coin and leave it for your kids!
418  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto is an Asset or Currency? on: March 01, 2018, 05:09:54 PM
Theoretically, a currency is issued, back and regulated by a central government or an institution in a union of states (like the euro). Therefore, cryptos are nor currencies.

An asset is linked to something, like the crypto token are linked to various real world good. Therefore,  some cryptos can be seen as assets.

Commodities are products (can be produced), are different from services and can be traded and stored. Therefore, cryptos might be considered as commodities.

Conclusion: For me, while there is no regulation, no stability mechanics, cryptos are only assets and commodities but not currencie.

419  Economy / Speculation / Re: Debunking the waste of energy argument against Bitcoin on: March 01, 2018, 04:54:27 PM
I´m tired of hearing the argument "but Bitcoin wastes more energy than
a whole country..." all over the mainstream media.

Here are a few reasons why the energy that is consumed by Bitcoin mining is not wasted:
1. The energy that is consumed by Bitcoin mining is the foundation of the security of the network
2. Proof-of-work is superior to other consensus algorithms like Proof-of-Stake and offers less attack vectors
3. Fiat currencies are supposedly backed by the power of the state... meanwhile the US military consumes more energy than Bitcoin mining per year
(this is a comparison of the military of a single country compared to a truly global currency)
4. No one is talking about the enormous costs of transporting fiat money, securing it and printing it in the first place
5. The mining of other commodities is extremely energy-intensive as well

If you take all these factors into account, Bitcoin may actually be less energy-intensive than traditional
fiat currencies. Besides, many mining companies have set up their operations in countries with an abundance
of renewable energies like Canada or Iceland. The days where Bitcoin was solely mined in rural Mongolia and China
may finally be behind us.

1. So what? Being the foundation of the network doesn't mean its not wasted. Knowing for a fact that there are better alternatives (PoS v3, for example), we can argue that it is possible to sustain a secure crypto network without wasting huge amounts of power.

2. Can you prove that? Can you? Or is it just your belief? How do explain the recent rise of new PoS coins, and even the ETH plans to transition to PoS? I'm guessing all these guys are stupid... right? PoW is an obsolete consensus mechanism, there are better alternatives. Period!

3. Comparing BTC with the US military is so ridiculous I'm not even going to bother with any comments...

4. This is just ignorance, nothing else. Wake up, man! Most of us have been using plastic money for the last 10~15 years! Do you still believe in huge armored convoys, SWAT escorts, helicopters flying to protect bags filled with coins and bank notes? That's in the movies! In the real world, those movements occur very seldom and their cost cannot be compared to BTC's energy waste.

5. Yes, it is. So what? You justify one mistake with another? What a nice argument... PoW's energy waste cannot be excused because oil, gold or diamond companies are also wasting power. They are all wrong!
420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best alternative investments? on: March 01, 2018, 04:15:34 PM
Crypto and stocks for me.

30% BTC, 70% PoS coins

Stocks split over a portfolio of 6 different options, middle to low risk.

So far, everything in the green zone  Grin
