Don't know if anyone already posted this but: water. Stop drinking all these garbage drinks with chemicals in them whose name you can't even pronounce. You don't NEED to drink them. Water is the greatest drink on the planet. And if you need nutrition or carbs, eat something healthy.
422  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: May 18, 2014, 11:19:44 PM
Fruitvale Station (2013) movie based on the real life shooting of an unarmed man by police.

Captain Phillips (2013) movie about piracy off the African coast. Really good performance by Tom Hanks.

Seven (1995) very depressing film but very cool story with lots of twists.

I hate that we're all too focused on ourselves and fucking each other over instead of advancing the lives of all of humanity.
424  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: May 18, 2014, 11:08:02 PM
I use firefox, and also a bit of chome when I'm on my laptop. I think chrome might actually be better, because with firefox when I have a lot of tabs open it is often very slow and laggy. But at this point I'm too used to firefox. Also the last update makes firefox look almost identical to chrome in terms of the UI.
425  Other / Off-topic / Re: Google is evil on: May 18, 2014, 11:05:25 PM
Google is a company. Companies aren't good or evil. Companies will do whatever it takes (within the moral limitations of the few people in control of said companies) to maximize profit. This doesn't mean they're always trying to rob the poor and murder baby elephants, but it means that the black/white and good/evil dichotomies are useless to try and understand them.

Facebook is growing in users every year so I don't know how you can say it's dead. I'm also pretty sure it is growing in profits, too.
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ▌«!» ▌ Bye bye Bitcoin Foundation, now WE control the Bitcoin! on: May 18, 2014, 02:43:42 AM
Saw that on reddit, great news. We've been walking about the issue for the past few months but this is the first real step to getting rid of the BF.

HUC has really lost steam lately. What ever happened to crypsty accepting it?
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Foundation members are resigning! on: May 12, 2014, 01:52:46 AM
I can't believe anyone would be a member in the first place. Who the hell thought a foundation claiming to represent a decentralized currency was a good idea?

And the best part of course, you have to pay money to join! They even have a "Platinum: $100,000" option.  What a blatant money-making scheme. Can we just stop mentioning this stupid, pointless organization and let it die?
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto-currencies in 10 years on: May 11, 2014, 06:56:07 PM
There will be one main crypto - probably Bitcoin, maybe Litecoin or something else. It will be accepted pretty much anywhere and used with plastic cards similar to credit cards. Smaller cryptocoins might be viable in specific fields.
431  Other / Off-topic / Re: Oscar Pistorius case on: May 11, 2014, 02:37:25 PM
You would think he wouldn't have to sell his house to pay for legal fees considering he made a lot of money but he probably doesn't want to keep the house anymore

The OJ Simpson Lawyer's Verdict On Pistorius :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1DfpuTHGYg

That is a very interesting comparison. The Pistorius case is basically the OJ Simpson case of the 21st century. In my opinion though OJ was much more obviously guilty than Pistorius, and it seems like the general consensus is that he DID get away with premeditated murder. The lawyer himself is a very smart guy, but I think he knew OJ was guilty. I didn't watch the entire video, but he doesn't really say whether he thinks OP is guilty though; he just seems to talk about all the circumstances and factors that will play out and affect the case.

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." More and more  true every day.
433  Other / Off-topic / Re: Oscar Pistorius case on: May 09, 2014, 06:02:03 PM
Only he knows , someone should give him an Academy Award for best actor though  Roll Eyes

I see a lot of people with this attitude, but is there any actual evidence that he shot her on purpose? It is really impossible that it may have been a horrible, horrible mistake? People are not perfect. Like the example I gave with the Fruitvale shooting where a cop shot a man without meaning to kill him because he thought he was pulling out his tazer. Not saying he should be completely let go, but involuntary manslaughter is very different from premeditated murder.

Sandisk announces 4TB SSD, hopes for 8TB next year.

"We see reaching the 4TB mark as really just the beginning and expect to continue doubling the capacity every year or two, far outpacing the growth for traditional HDDs," Manuel Martull, SanDisk's product & solutions marketing director, stated in an email reply to Computerworld.

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9248070/SanDisk_announces_4TB_SSD_hopes_for_8TB_next_year

SSD prices are still too high to abandon HDD.

True, I recently bought an SSD just for starting up my desktop quickly and some other applications. It's definitely way superior to HDD but yes, the prices are still a bit too high. Having said that though, computer technology evolves at such a rapid rate we will see HDDs being phased out completely probably within a decade.

Definietely go for overstock.com. Not only are they a pretty good alternative to amazon in terms of price, range of goods, etc, but also have very good customer service and treat their employees very well. And their CEO is an anti-Wall Street badass.
436  Other / Off-topic / Re: Oscar Pistorius case on: May 08, 2014, 08:05:48 AM
Oooh can't believe I missed this thread. This case has captivated me since I heard about it last year. It is really really weird. I do think it was on accident, but he should still go to jail at least for a couple of years. This reminds of that Fruitvale station shooting, where the cop killed a man by shooting him - he obviously did not intend to kill him (he said he thought he was taking out his taser) but that still doesn't excuse such gross incompetence. So I think the correct solution for the Pistorious case is the middle ground - make him do some time in prison for involuntary manslaughter, but not as much as for actual premeditated murder.

Having said that though, I'm looking forward to seeing more details come about the case. But my personal opinion is that it was just a very, very bad mistake on Pistorius' part, because it doesn't make any sense for him to do this out of malice.
437  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is Dead, sold all mine on: May 08, 2014, 07:59:23 AM
Bitcoin is dead, I'm selling mine at a 80% loss. Moving on to a different crypto. BITCOIN IS DEAD!

You're exactly the reason we have 100 different alt coins created every day. An insatiable appetite for nothing but making profit.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin Client do you use and why ? on: May 08, 2014, 07:57:51 AM
I also use Armory, it is incredibly safe. Nobody can get my bitcoins even if they hack my computer, as the actual wallet is stored on a USB and used on a different, offline computer. Sure it takes more time for me to send my bitcoins somewhere, but I'll take the 99.9% security over convenience any day.
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So if China doesn't matter to BTC, what is causing the price to stay down? on: May 08, 2014, 07:54:44 AM
When it was rising in last year, everyone wanted to get in onto the hype train, and it soared and soared. Then it fell down - a lot of these new buyers realized that Bitcoin is not just going to go up all the time and left. That semi-mainstream "to the moon" mentality evaporated, and then the bad news hit to make things worse. So people are now more realistic with Bitcoin's future price - there is less of a belief that it will go into the thousands, after we saw it crash from 1k to below 500. The 1k price point was all hype that a lot of profit-seekers caught onto, and then left as soon as it crashed. Without these people the price doesn't have the fuel to grow, especially as quickly as it did at the end of 2013.
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the biggestest threats to Bitcoin? on: May 08, 2014, 07:49:07 AM
the biggest problems with bitcoin that I see are:
1) It offers no real advantage for consumers for day-to-day spending than cash or a credit/debit card - it's just more complicated. It's easy to dismiss this if you are tech-savvy, but think of the dumbest person you know. This could probably be improved with better POS terminals, etc.
2) Getting money in/out of bitcoin is still way more difficult than it needs to be
3) You can't buy hardly anything with it - and the incentive for merchants to accept it is low given the volatility and the fact that all of their bills are in a different currency. Instant conversion back to dollars kind of defeats the point if you ask me.
4) Most people view bitcoin as a money-making scheme, hoping that the value will rise dramatically due to the design-limited supply. If you're always thinking in your head that 10 years from now a coin will be worth $100k, there's a lot of pressure to not spend today. If the case for bitcoin was really cheaper, faster, better payments, there would not be so much focus on speculation.

All solid points but:

1. Will change once the technology is there. It takes time to improve but that's the direction it is moving in - being easy enough to be used by anyone.
2. Won't be an issue if Bitcoin truly catches on, because there will be no need to transfer it into fiat.
3. Once again, this is slowly improving every day. There are more and more merchants accepting it. But yes, we still need big names to accept bitcoin to get the ball rolling.
4. I think this has improved a lot over Bitcoin's lifetime. I personally got into it at the hope of making $$$, but as time goes on I stick with bitcoin because of its actual revolutionizing advantages like cutting off governments from controlling a currency. Also, with every new up and down more and more "weak hands" are weeded out - the people that are really here just for the profit.
