Hi natenooo,

right before you asked your question the first time I linked this tutorial here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/Espers/wiki/Solving-wallet-issues

That should work for you. Note that the SSL certificate for espers.io is currently outdated.

Hi people, a few things:

Cryptocoderz is still working on this project. Some time ago in Discord he said that he is taking plenty of time to get things right this time, to avoid getting in another embarrassing situation where things don't work as expected. Please understand this and be patient. I am still holding strong on my ESP because I think the entire project will come back to life eventually, when the problems have been fixed. But yeah as it seems you really need a lot of patience if you want to play this game, and the opportunity costs are real. There's not much we can do though.

Wispr is a different project that attempts to do some "weird" kind of ICO for Espers holders, which is weird because Espers currently has close to no volume. So there is no good reason for them to do it this way, instead of doing an usual ICO, or distributing their coin to Espers holders for free. I would recommend you to be aware of this "weirdness" when considering to accept their offer.

That said, Wispr does not belong to this project at all, so please move your questions and discussions about it to the corresponding thread. If they don't have an official forum thread, that's another "weirdness", but it's not our fault!  Cheesy  Questions about Wispr are offtopic here, as much as questions about any other ICO would not belong to a Bitcoin or Ethereum thread.

Discord is the place where most discussions take place currently, you can find the link in the ANN. Cryptocoderz and other team members are active there occasionally, so if you want to know what is going on you should check out Discord. (honestly - there is not much going on there, either, but a little bit more than here  Wink )

Trading is currently possible against ETH on Livecoin (https://www.livecoin.net/en/trade/index?currencyPair=ESP%2FETH), whereas all Bitcoin markets are stuck at 1 sat because of the recent price rally of Bitcoin.

Please also consider the two Github wiki entries that I have written about Espers:

I dont get any connections in the wallet.
What should I do ?

Just take a quick look into the FAQ!  Wink  https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#7-i-have-zero-connections

It's essentially what EleanorZ said.

Besides the little volume, I see a bit of interest in the project here in bitcointalk, doubts should be made in Discord?

Everybody is just waiting until Cryptocoderz fixes the current problems, there is not much we can do here. On Discord you have about the same situation, plus some more moaning and FUD. Everybody agrees that things need to change, and the team says that they need more time. So that's all we got.

Hi,

Somebody knows if I can recover some XSPEC that I had in the exchange ccex, the currency was removed from that exchange and I did not take them out.

Thanks

Phew you should try to contact C-Cex support in that case.

Hey.
how many coins do you need for a POS?
Can I install a purse on the Rapsberry Pi 3?

1) Look here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#7-how-can-i-stake
2) Yes. If you mean the wallet, that is.

hi!
what reward for 1 block POS?
how many coins? 0,5 or 1 or ?
no information about it on the site.

Take a look here: http://coinwiki.info/en/SpectreCoin And also the above link.

my wallet's been syncinc for more than a week and still nothing! i've restarted the program over and over again, it's never finished Huh

You must add nodes taken from this updated list:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/#!network
Copy from: node list

Exactly. For a step-by-step guide, see here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#6-i-have-zero-connections

I understand your point, but I think it depends on the name in question. There have been many names in the vein of DarkCoin, Darknet, StealthCoin, ShadowCoin, ShadowCash, Blackcoin, GhostCoin, SpectreCoin, etc. etc. etc. (and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head). These names all evoke a sense of secrecy and privacy, but they are also quite generic, easily confused with each other, and sound more 'nerdy' than professional. I also think it's significant that the two most successful of these coins, DarkCoin and Darknet, only really achieved that success once they rebranded to DASH and PIVX, respectively. The funny thing is that 'DASH' and 'PIVX' are, objectively, strange names--they don't immediately call to mind the privacy aspect like the old names did. But they are unique and catchy sounding, and there is no way that someone can turn around and use the same name without being a clear copycat (ditto real-world corporate names like Yahoo!, Amazon, eBay, Nike, etc.--none of those names tell you anything about what the company does, but they are so unique that other companies can't accidentally/on purpose copy them. The same is not true of Shadow/Dark/Stealth/Ghost-related names, since those are simply concepts.

So yes, I agree that at some point you will have to stick with a name. My point is that that 'some point' should be when you have a unique, professional-sounding name that can't easily be copied, which isn't currently the case (as has just been demonstrated by the new Spectre). Being cool-sounding and descriptive isn't the same thing as being a good name from a marketing and brand-identity perspective.

Anyway, I'm not trying to be negative; XSPEC is a nice project with good potential and I hope it succeeds. I just think this is something to consider going forward.

You know what? I actually agree with that. Also I have been one of the people who proposed alternative, "catchier" names in the past, I think I proposed calling it "HALO" back then (quite the opposite of dark and shady, you see? Wink But still protective). But both jbg (dev) and mandica (founder) pointed out that changing the brand also can have some negative impacts on the project. I am all open for change, and I agree that SpectreCoin is not an optimal name brand-wise. But sometimes one needs to be really cautious with change, because it tends to break things!  Cheesy Whereas keeping the old name won't break things in the near future, so that we can focus on development, first.

If you try to discuss this question in Slack (again), you will see quite some opposition, but of course you are still welcome to check in! Wink But honestly this question has been discussed almost as often as changing the website, so it's also kind of tiring to discuss this once again.

And btw., mostly for the developers and long-time members, Spectrecoin has also become some kind of "identity" that one has become used to, therefore such a change would also require to change one's own identity and self-perception of the project. So it's not so simple.
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ⚡[ANN]⚡ ▐░Espers [ESP]░▌ on: December 02, 2017, 02:58:13 PM
Yes, it is working well. The volume is still so low though. How about trying to list this at Cryptopia? So traders will have another option.

Another thing. Aren't the staking giving too high rewards? I am just curious because it also means unlimited dumps unless they see another reason to buy more or hold.

1. Cryptopia devs don't like Cryptocoderz. So it's probably not going to happen.

2. Staking doesn't work right now, if you are getting rewards you are probably on the wrong chain. See https://github.com/bitcoinx2/Espers/wiki/FAQ . Apart from that, 25% per year is relatively high, but it has the reason to make people support the network. If you are getting the 25% per year through staking, you won't make any losses if the price reduces by 25%. So it's just a question of how many coins exist in total, it doesn't affect the overall value.

Everybody, now that Novaexchange has closed deposits, you can still sell your ESP on Livecoin for ETH:

https://www.livecoin.net/en/trade/index?currencyPair=ESP%2FETH

There is an active market here with quite some buy orders. Cool 1 satoshi equals 23e-8 ETH at the moment. Livecoin is a great site, made by Russians.

(I haven't checked that Livecoin is on the right chain though ... please confirm if ESP deposits work!)
433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: December 02, 2017, 09:59:42 AM
Be that as it may, it's probably something to keep an eye on going forward. Branding and name recognition are worth a lot. Whatever we may think about its long-term potential, the Spectre Exchange looks like the kind of ICO and project that will attract attention and speculative investment. If that happens, a re-brand for XSPEC may be worth considering even though it is in the right and the 'other' Spectre is in the wrong. When timed to coincide with other significant developments (a new feature, new website, etc.), a professional re-brand can have a significant positive effect. For example, the re-brand from DarkNet to PIVX is what moved PIVX from obscurity to (at that time) the top 20.

I say this as someone holding enough XSPEC to be interested in its future.

(Here's an anecdote about names. Sometime in 2014/2015, there was a super crappy Chinese alt called Ambercoin. It really was pointless, but I mined a bunch because I had an old mining computer and free electricity. Anyway, randomly these Ukrainian (I think?) guys came along and started a different coin whose value was supposedly backed in real amber, and they called it...Ambercoin. Now, at that time this backed-with-amber business apparently sounded like a good idea, because the price spiked. But the price of the other Ambercoin also spiked, and I ended up actually being able to sell this totally useless coin (well, in the end they were both useless, but that's beside the point) because buyers were confused about the name, and FOMO made them run out and buy anything named Amber. And then sure enough people were pissed off that they had bought the wrong one, and there was a ton of FUD and it really derailed the growth of the second Amber. Anyway, my point is that however appropriate a name may be, the value of uniqueness shouldn't be underestimated. It's not about being right; it's about being recognized.)

We had this discussion in Slack quite some times. Now if we change our name, who guarantees that nobody will copy that new name, too? Running away from people copying your brand is just pointless. Unless we choose something totally unrecognizable (like PIVX, ABCDE or any other combination of random characters that do not make a real word), chances are good that there is some other coin that has a similar name, or there will be in the future. At some point we will just have to stick with a name. So why not this time?

hi
i have a question
how many coins are required for POS? for example, at least once a week. 500, 1000, 2000?

You can also read about it here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#7-how-can-i-stake

what has happened to the network. i am staking with 29 millions espers and i get 0.01 espers in reward. really that is ridicolous little amount.

See https://github.com/bitcoinx2/Espers/wiki/FAQ#2-how-can-i-stake
436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: December 01, 2017, 03:35:13 PM
There is a very similar project in the name of this project. spectre project. Is it so hard to find a name? Spectre team can find some more original names Smiley

Actually we were the first Spectre project, and everything else copied our name! It's really a shame that projects just choose a name that is already taken... But hey this the internet, it is anarchy, we can only ask them to stop it (which we did), but can not force them.

Funnily enough, originally in 2016 we had the ticker [SPEC], but changed it to XSPEC because some dead project had that ticker in 2014 or so. And then came a different Spectre, copied our name and chose the ticker "SPEC" because they found it was unused. -,- Right, seriously. It's just ridiculous. All we are trying is to do it "right", but we cannot take responsibility for the other projects.

@xlcus, @DRPD

Please follow these instructions (adding nodes manually): https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/FAQ#6-i-have-zero-connections

We also have a fix already that is just waiting to be included! Smiley See https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/issues/21

I am sure it has been asked before, by perhaps put a link to the wiki on the https://spectreproject.io main page?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Right now, jbg, who is also administrating the website, is in the process of finishing wallet version 1.4, so maybe you can come to Slack and propose this idea after version 1.4 has been released?  Smiley

Whats happening with ESP, ive been away for a while..its under 1 sat now?!

The problem is that Cryptocoderz has become largely inactive and is rarely seen, even though he claims that he is still working on it. And there are problems in the network (outdated nodes), therefore we have syncing problems, and PoS is broken for many people since the last update on Nov 1st.
