441  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 12, 2013, 12:55:19 AM
Yesterday & today my bot made some trades that for the first time, yielded enough profit that the bot has finally paid for itself.

I have a question, though.

All day the bot has been making many, small buys at around $320, and earlier this morning it made a couple at $306. My question is, why didn't the bot buy all it could at $306 when it had the chance? Why all the little buys all day at the higher price? It eats at profits.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Ngin,
Are you using Bitstamp by any chance?

If you are it has to do with the way their API works.  Either way I would be interested to see your logs, could you send them over to me?

Pablo.

Hey Guys Smiley,
To the Home Team: I feel like this argument is a bit out of hand; both sides have exposed there points of view (over a couple of days), I am not going to make a judgement call, of course I am on the side of the majority, because I use the system and have found it profitable but I feel like we should avoid the fight. If our visitors feel that our evidence is not enough and that they are right then we should welcome the new point of view.

To our visitors: We welcome your opinions, but I feel we are getting to the point of "I'm right and that's all there is to it," a lot of evidence (now and over 1000 posts) and more importantly, personal experience, has been presented here. If you have any suggestions for how we can improve our trading algorithm or our service, please post them publicly, we don't claim to be perfect, we are happy to improve. If you need anything at all, please just drop me an email at Pablo@Butter-Bot.com, I will be happy to take care of you.

I hope we can end this argument here and all go home friends Smiley.

Pablo.
443  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 11, 2013, 10:09:05 PM
One must subtract the price appreciation of bitcoin itself from the numbers that back testing gives to get a more realistic view of potential profits. I agree that it's a very close call versus buy and hold.

Friends,
We just released a fix via Mass Mail for the email issue labeled 2.4.1

I want to personally apologize for the inconveniences these past two days, we have taken strong measures to prevent this from recurring in the future.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if anyone needs anything at all Smiley.

Pablo.
444  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 11, 2013, 07:52:12 PM
Could anyone having the email issue (receiving many emails for a single trade) please send me their logs? We want to fix that as soon as possible but we need the logs of people experiencing the issue.

It's Pablo@Butter-Bot.com

This is the info we need:

1. Go into the "manage extensions" page.
2. Enable "developer" mode by checking the "developer" box in the upper tool bar.
3. Go to the extension and click on the "generated_background_page.html" link.
4. When the new window opens, choose the "console tab"
5. Copy and paste the info there to pastebin.com as close to the time of your issue as possible and send it to me.

And:

1. In the developer tools open the network tab.
2. If it's empty, press F5 to reload the extension and wait a few minutes until there are some requests listed.
3 Then right-click the list in the left pane and select
"Save as HAR with content".

Please scan the file and remove your API Key from the text and send it to us.

This will help us resolve the issue much more quickly.

Pablo.

446  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 11, 2013, 03:58:16 PM
@ Pablo

I think I might have found a strange inconsistency.

I was installing B-Bot on a ESXi server, on a virtual desktop to test out a few settings. I set B-Bot to standard settings (2 hours, 0.25 buy/sell 10/21 ema settings) and refreshed the popup.html page and I noticed that the desktop time sync was off by about 3 or 4 hours.

When I went to refresh B-Bots status page I noticed it was reading in sync with the wrong hour.

I corrected the clock on the virtual desktop and only then did B-Bot actually use the current stats up to the current hour.

I know this is a small issue but if someone has their clock off by a significant portion of time they might be trading with very old data. You might want to look into it and see if B-Bot is synchronized by the clock on the users computer rather than the api/feed servers it is getting data from.

As soon as I corrected the time, B-Bot started pulling several extra hours of data that weren't there before.

(By the way, are there any current Beta Tester spots available?)

Thank you PuertoLibre, on it.

About Beta Tester Spots: If you want in the next Beta I will guarantee you a spot, you are one of the top bug spotters in the community, if not number one Smiley.

Hi Pablo,

So I added the update (2.4) you sent via email and now I keep getting email notifications every 30 mins (set to 30min buy/sell trigger) that there has been a purchase despite the fact that there was already a purchase 3 hours ago and there no further funds to purchase anything new.

Is this a bug? My settings haven't changed. They are the same as they were before the update.

Pangia,
Please email me the info below at Pablo@Butter-Bot.com and we will track this down and solve it ASAP. Rest assured that it is a non-critical issue from what we can tell, if you find it annoying just shut off email alerts until we fix it we should be ASAP.

Needed info:

448  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 11, 2013, 03:51:11 PM

@ Pablo

Should both numbers (under the arrows) be expressed as a positive number in B-bot's settings?

0.6 buy threshold?

0.3 sell threshold?

Hey Smiley,
No, on the table they are properly expressed, they should both be positive in your threshold settings menu. I realize that may seem a little counter-intuitive at this point but it does makes sense Smiley.

Please let me know if you need anything at all.
449  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 11, 2013, 02:03:06 AM
@ Pablo

What about the issue where the emails for the buys weren't generated?

I am looking through the email and it only shows the sell notice but none for the buys it made.

Looks like there may be something to that, it looks like it's only the buy emails that aren't going out, not the sells for some reason. It's a non-critical issue but we will have that fixed ASAP.

Pablo.

Hey Guys Smiley,
I've been following the conversation, couple of things:

1. For those of you having issues with Mt. Gox, this is a limited bug that triggers under specific circumstances; we will release an update to take care of this plus some other minor work ups tonight.

2: The graph issue is indeed an issue with BitcoinCharts.com: BitcoinCharts doesn't have the best API and it sometimes crashes in moments of high volatility, we will see about how to mitigate this.

This post below worries me a lot:

Does anyone have any great settings that work on 1 minute frequency? (and is willing to share?)

Seriously never recommend anything under 60 minutes with EMA.
1 minute settings, backtested for 1 month.

Profit:77.47%Max. Profit:77.47%Min. Profit:-0.60%Trades:32

I have backtested it further up to 6 months but the backtesting server seems to be sporadic at the moment.

There was another setting that got up to 127% with trades going back much further. I can't figure out what the settings were exactly as I kept trying new ones.

Pablo.
@ Pablo

There is another late night bug report:

The bot appears to be making buy trades without sending emails. Even when the trigger does not appear to have been crossed. Looks like a serious issue.

(Sending a PM now plus all the detailed logs)

Ok,
I've reviewed the data, and I'm fairly confident the negative value is the issue, your Buys make sense as the value (+1) was triggered, it's the sells that are suspect and if you notice they happen on the "sell" crossover at every tick; that makes sense since the negative threshold value would mean any sell crossover would trigger the bot.

I think that we should keep an eye on it but I don't think it's a bug, I will be here for another hour at least to monitor the situation. Please drop me an email if the issue recurs.

Pablo.

Pablo.

Ok,
I just heard back from the Lead developer and we are sure that the issue was the negative values in the settings, using positive values (as normal) will resolve it.

You made me worried for a second there PuertoLibre Smiley.

I sold some BTC for USD manually on MTGox, after that I bought butterbot, and have enabled it with the default settings

Trade Freq: 1 Hr
Short EMA - 10
Long EMA - 21
Tick Offset - 0 minutes
Buy Threshold 1 = 0
Buy Threshold 2 = .25
Sell Threshold 1 = 0
Sell Threshold 2 = .25
TSL - Empty Field

It has been running for an hour or so, but I just want to make sure everything is good on my end?

Thanks!

Edit: I only have USD in my MTGox account, is that okay?

Sorry for all the newb questions!

Hi Adeel Smiley,
Looks like you're good to go Smiley.

Please make sure you have the "Connectivity Check Mark" (picture below) on your main bot menu to make double sure everything is okay.

Pablo.

Yep, it says API Connected & MTGox Connected and has a check mark.

Now I just set it and forget it? lol

Yep Smiley.

Be sure to drop me an email if you want to change your settings after playing with the back testing engine, I will be glad to help you Smiley.

Hey,
We are looking into this right now; I'm not on the tech division but it looks to me like the issue is possibly the negative value on your sell threshold 2. You sell threshold 1 is 0, so that means that any almost any value will trigger is and your sell 2 is -1 so that means that effectively any value above -1 will trigger it. You have to keep in mind that even for sell values your threshold values are expressed as positives.

I'm getting everyone to look into this but I have had no other similar reports so it suggests to me it's something to do with the settings.

Could you please change your both your "2" values to positive numbers? I am trying to replicate the issue with those and it doesn't show up so far.

Pablo.
I changed the value to a positive.

Do the first two thresholds on buy and sell react the same way to a "0" as with a "blank"? (nothing filled in)

No, you have to have a value filled in, otherwise it will not work properly.

I'll be standing by for your feedback on the positive value change.

Pablo.

Hey Guys,
Just installed and setup my bot, added the API keys etc, and have hit a bit of a roadblock. I can see the icon in chrome and the numbers on the bottom are fluctuating so it is "live" but when I click the icon I have a warning triangle. It says that the API is connected but none of the trading platforms are. I have only set it up with BTC-E so far but beside btc-e it says disconnected. Am I doing something wrong or is it simply because the bot has not attempted a trade yet?

Also, if you dont mind, does anyone want to post some decent settings for the bot engine on btc-e? I have been messing around with them but would be curious to know what other people use.

Thanks a million in advance!

Hi Basaj Smiley,
This is always one of three things:

1. The API key and secret may have been partially copy and pasted (happens).

2. The keys do not have the required "get info" and "trade" permissions.

3. You did not activate the key through the activation email BTC-E sends you.

Please let me know, I will be happy to debug this with you. You can also drop me an email at Pablo@Butter-Bot.com and I can help you there are well Smiley.

Update
***************

Friends,
We just released an update labeled V2.4 to deal with some of the issues arising from yesterday's release.

Improvements include:

* Graphs now show override settings

* Fixes for trading issues on Mt. Gox

* Bot now starts as disabled when first installed: Note that the bot will be running and NOT disabled if you install it on top of a previous version that is currently running.

* You can turn trading at exchanges ON and OFF independently

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything at all Smiley.

Please, please, please avoid trading at intervals below 30 minutes. Even though 1 may back test well for the past month, like someone already said, BTC has been doing nothing but climbing for the past month. EMA is a trend strategy and trends are more easily identified over longer stretches of time, at 1 minute, you are really just trading on noise and more likely than not, you will loose your shirt.

I know it is fun to watch the bot trade more often like a High Frequency Trader (HFT) would, but the reason we don't have an HFT yet is because so far we haven't found one that is productive, please do not use Butter as an HFT.

I am here for whatever you guys may need Smiley.

What is in update 2.3.1?

Bugfix?

Yes, we had two reports of unwanted trades and tracked the issue down, it should be resolved now. Please be aware we had to temporarily remove the new feature that started the bot on "Pause" by default, we will reengineer this and release an update when we have a solution. All other features are in effect.

Please let me know if you need anything at all.

Pablo.
Hmm, the bot is not reading my license. (v2.3)

The version (v2.3.1) downloaded from B-Bots interface, shows a CRX signature error when downloaded. (I didn't do a clean install)

Edit: Re-downloaded from the B-Bot interface and it now works (and reads my license).

JFYI: We disabled V2.3 from the server so it won't work for anyone. Please just upgrade to V2.3.1 and it should be taken care of.

460  Economy / Services / Re: Settings anomoly on 3.2.1 on: November 10, 2013, 02:10:50 AM
Using the "override global settings" feature on 3.2.1 I have GOX set to 10/21 EMA rather then the 20/42 EMA of the other two exchanges.  When I pull up the account in Butter's window, however, it shows all 3 exchanges still on 20/42 EMA.

I disabled the extension and re-enabled it, but it is still showing GOX @ 20/42, contrary to the settings I am requesting.

Sean

Hey Sean Smiley,

I think I know what you are talking about:

The graphs still use your "Global" Settings on all three exchanges, we will get that resolved in the next upgrade. Rest assured that the bot is indeed trading with your override values.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything at all.
