441  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: At what clock rate does an AntMiner S5 mine with peak efficiency? on: April 08, 2015, 09:21:23 AM
The efficiency doesn't change as much with the frequency settings as one might like.  I think it is more useful as a heat management tool.

I agree heat and noise at the higher frequencys
442  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BitAffNet] How we're the #1 Bitcoin Mining Pool In The World (proof inside) on: April 08, 2015, 09:09:12 AM
The pool is 125BTC behind in payments and it keeps getting worse.
443  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCGuild Luck on: April 08, 2015, 12:26:39 AM
Our 3-month luck is 100% the fault of the block withholding.  That effect will keep our 3-month luck down until that activity (most of May and early June) is no longer a part of the 3-month average.
With all due respect, that's ridiculous.  Guild's 3-month luck will never reach 100% (99% + orphan) or above if the daily, weekly, and monthly values are sub 99% consistently, which they have been for months now.

Quote
The group that did the withholding is the ONLY EVER PROVEN block withholding to take place.  And what happened?  Their accounts were frozen with what few coins were not yet paid.  They were notified, and after days of communication the problem was found.  Their explanation and looking at their share history clearly pointed it was a software glitch related to a 32-bit integer overflow.  It was discarding shares with a difficulty greater than 2^32 due to the overflow.  48 hours later they resumed mining on BTC Guild and after finding multiple blocks they had their accounts unfrozen.
And you put your thumbs in your ears yelling at everyone saying "everything is fine".  Low and behold there was a withholding attack underway even though it was innocent.  I don't believe that there aren't similar issues, either intentional or otherwise, currently taking place on Guild.  However, I'm well aware that detecting those actors and isolating them is near impossible.  Don't take it personally, but shit is happening on your pool whether you'd like to admit it or not.

Quote
We are at 91.6% out of ~99% expected (orphans make 100% unlikely) for the month.  That 1-month average has varied from 91% to 97% over the last 2 weeks.  All it takes are a few long blocks to drastically change the averages.  All it takes are a few really fast blocks to drastically change them right back.
This is true, but I'm watching the long term luck continue to drop.  Previous to early 2014 Guild was always a good percent or two above 100.  I know there's been suggestion from users/talk of removing that stat all together.  I'm glad you haven't because that would reek of sweeping the facts under the carpet.

Quote
They are going to swing more drastically and more wildly as time goes on, because public pools will be gone within a year unless something changes drastically in the mining ecosystem.  All the major public pools are now under 20% of the network combined.
Short term variance is expected, especially in smaller pools.  However, we all know the common arguement to the contrary is that the variance over time evens out.  In this case, "over time" is showing that there are problems and the organic balancing of variance isn't occuring.

Before you lose your shit as usual, I'd like to sympathize with you.  I love Guild, and I greatly appreciate you as an operator, full stop.  I've been mining with you since Jan of 2012 and hate to leave, but it is what it is.

I thought Eligius froze and confiscated @400BTC from a block withholding miner? ( not sure if those coins where ever paid out to the miners that got ripped off)

445  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do AntMiners comply with FCC Part 15? on: April 07, 2015, 05:57:05 PM
let me tell you how much a Chinese manufacture cares about Merican regulations.  0, zero %.

About as much as they do with some of the class c fireworks that I have seen which if handled wrong could easily blow a part of your body off.
446  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Protect yourself against Civil Asset Forfeiture on: April 07, 2015, 05:12:08 PM
The solution is to spread your assets among several countries, without anyone knowing what you own on the other side of the border. This what I'm doing, as are all my friends and all my clients.

The problem is the US dollar is the world reserve capital of the world.. (For now that is) .... But the U.S. government has already made other counties banks do things in their country and if they don't follow the U.S.'s wishes then the U.S. Banking will no longer let them do business with them. Most other banks (and governments) have caved to this pressure. But now with what we seeing going on in China and with the U.S. financial problems we may very well see the world reserve money change from the dollar. At that point I will be glad that I have diversified and with BTC being part of that.
447  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 07, 2015, 04:48:23 PM
As I understand, the S5 is on the order of 40 to 50% more efficient than the S3.  The S3 is rated at around 360W at the wall and the S5 around 590W at the wall.  Expect a 2 to 4% greater efficiency with Gold Vs Bronze supply.

Thanks for reply

I want to know exact unit to calculate electric bill. 1 unit = 1000 watts so how much time it will take for antminer s5/s3 to reach 1 unit of electricity with normal smps.
An example:  My electricity cost is 14.5 cents per KWH (KiloWattHour). To run an S5 at 350MHz for one day costs me approximately (0.145USD)*(590W)*(24hours)/1KWH = 2.0532USD per S5 per day.  I'd probably round it to 2 USD/day.

[In words]

A unit's power consumption in KW * hours it runs for (ie 24 for a day) = KWH of electricity used. KWH * price per KWH = price per day.

Where I live I am not legallt allowed to do wiring and, if caught, it could void my house insurance. Chance to get caught = zero unless I fuck up wiring and investigators discover that as source of a fire. I just pay the electrician and be done with it. I had a 20 AMP 120V put in 1 week ago for $100.

That is exactly the right approach, it doesn't even come close to risking all to save a few $ upfront. Even if you think you can do it youself, you can't issue yourself the right paperwork and probably aren't legally qualified.

Most states in the US can not stop a person from doing their own electric on their own house that they live in. But if a person really is not sure of what they are doing it is best left to someone that does understand it.

I am not sure if many where even using them? But most likely there was other reasons for closing the doors. I was signed up and had a account but never heard anything from them as far as emails and such.
450  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Antminer S3+'s / Gridseed blades on: April 07, 2015, 03:51:26 PM
Been looking for a good deal on S3's and 5.2Mh/s gridseed blades,  and yes, realize the ROI on Scrypt coins and bitcoins are not the best with this hardware..

I currently have 4 S5's and number 5 is on the way.  I keep them at home and pay 9 cents a KW, But I have a friend that lives in an apartment down the road that doesn't pay for electricity, its incorporated with the Condo fees and he shares a meter with 5 other apartments.  Hes willing to let me keep a couple units at in his basement,  so i figure if i could get some S3's down there for 90$ shipped it could only help.

Thanks,
Tyler
I might sell my 2 batch 8 same a S3+ but you pay the shipping?
451  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB : SP20's, S5's, A2 Terminators - USA only on: April 07, 2015, 03:41:38 PM

Congrats on finding it!
454  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: most profitable pool on: April 05, 2015, 10:47:46 PM
i dont have much hash power and didnt get chance to run miners 24/7 as well but i get good payouts compare to my hashing power from BAN and also advantage to stay with them are the freebies in shape of NMC, Doge and 10% BTC bonus on our hashing earnings.

Um, are you some sort of BAN sock puppet?
They don't payout the NMC or Doge and they don't pay 10% bonus.

kano u r legendry member and i respect your position and work which u had done and will be doing for this community, i would also appreciate if you give your honest opinion and use some polite words towards others, if you have some personal grudge or concerns with BAN operators than i would request u to deal with them. Sobr is not giving me anything extra for my 200 Ghs mining power. i shared here only what i saw on the website.

http://pasteboard.co/2lklwgDo.jpg

yes i do agree that they dont have 10% its just 1% and apology for the typo.

Sorry if above post annoy u but i get also annoyed when some offended words pass towards me.

First BAN is not accepting new miners. Also if you have been mining there any amount of time you would know the payouts are a mess. The pool is 139 BTC short of making any payments. How can you even recommend this pool. You shared bad and incorrect information. My honest opinion is the pool sucks now.

thanks chief that is good to know, i also did research on the recent downtime and their alt payouts. but i am not affiliated with either of them, sorry if my words hurt some one here

My research is from mining on the pool since August up until a couple of weeks ago. You didn't hurt me at all, but it is just bad when someone spreads bad information to a person that may not know any better. BAN has been a high risk pool for the last few months whether it will pay or not.

The pool is down to 2.4 Ph now.  S0br will pay everyone off...over time.  At least he always has.  With the hashrate that low, most of the mining is his, along with some other small miners who are loyal.  Loyal partially because it's not a big dollar issue for them.
I pay over $2000 a month in expenses.  So waiting a week was no longer an option.  I moved to kano.

Pool hash rate right now is down to 1.6PH and still behind 130BTC.... unless the pool gets very lucky as the pool hash rate drops finding the needed blocks to pay everyone will get harder.

There are 2 basic ways of paying electricity in Aus
Peak/OffPeak and Banded
I use Banded (for many years now) coz mining 24/7 works out a better average price over the 24/7

I have price bands based on time of day.
Looking at a bill in Aug last year: the Tax inclusive price bands where:
11.99c (Hot water heater only)
13.62c (10pm to 7am)
53.35c (2pm to 8pm weekdays)
22.62c other times
Plus a 90.75c a day fee
That bill total average after taxes and discounts was 21.6c/kWhr

So after that I stopped running most of my mining equipment.
So now I only run the S5 24/7
and the S3s off during the 6 peak hours each weekday
(except I sometimes forget to turn them on at 10pm Tongue)

My last bill I can't find Tongue But I think the prices were 10% lower due to power regulation changes.

Edit: I also checked with one of my clients factory 24/7 electricity price ... it was higher than my average.

kano I was just wondering if you know what source they use to produce most of electric there?

I was just in Costa Rica for a week and that country since the first of the year is 100% renewable energy producing their electric  with a lot coming from geothermal.
460  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BitAffNet] How we're the #1 Bitcoin Mining Pool In The World (proof inside) on: April 05, 2015, 11:09:19 AM
Not sure WTF is going on but I had over .02 btc pending and it just disappeared... I didn't get any payout nor is it saying it payed out... wtf

edit: the earnings are in previous difficulty? what does that mean?

Difficulty changed so your earnings dropped. The pool in the past got caught when the difficulty dropped the pending payments dropped also but now the old pending payments are saved as "previous" and you start earning at the new rate which is lower. One other note is when you get paid the pool may not pay the older amount first, just keep track of it.
