441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin be hacked? on: April 24, 2016, 08:48:54 PM
Well depends on your definition of hack.

A pool or mega rich farmer can theoretically scheme to try to get 51% of the total hashrate of bitcoins. This would be a scenario where said entity can control transactions as long as he is in power, or simply try to destroy the network with fake transactions which would be very difficult to reverse after that. Many would say that the possibilty of such an attack is very low as said entity would earn so much more by playing nice.

That's right but what if someone wants to undermine Bitcoin or drive the price down to the ground? Theoretically a government or a bank consortium could do that of they wish to get rid of Bitcoin if the crypto coin has become too powerful and widespread. I think this is a real threat to the Bitcoin community because this is a weak link which can be broken by someone with the means to do it. The question is not who will profit by mining Bitcoin but who will profit by destroying it completely. I think Bitcoin is a global financial experiment and the people with power are letting it run for now but what if they decide to pull the plug at one point?
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can we see bitcoin money transfer store in near future? on: April 24, 2016, 08:24:20 PM
If there will be a mainstream crypto coin one day that would be Bitcoin. I don't think any other alt coin will gain such popularity or investors' money to change the landscape already set by Bitcoin. Yes there will always be copycats trying to emulate the success of Bitcoin but only the original will prevail and hold the most value of them all. We can manufacture fake diamonds effortlessly but are they as valuable as the real ones?
443  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Jam is an absolute joke on: April 24, 2016, 08:14:18 PM
Just stay away from any Bitcoin lending sites. Most of the stories if not all are bogus and I sometimes wonder if the verified details are even legit or they are fake ID's as well. Honestly I have read some preposterous sob stories over there that smell like scam half a globe away. What else can you expect when a lot of online fraudsters are attracted to Bitcoin because of its anonymity and irreversibility. My advice is not to bother with any loans the headaches are not worth the profit if any because it's very hard to find legitimate borrowers who won't default.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got hacked , All my Bitcoin and Litecoin lost on: April 24, 2016, 07:36:22 PM
This example of bad security practices should serve as a warning to everyone with stored Bitcoins on their computers to make the effort to transfer their stash to cold storage like a paper wallet or a dedicated hardware wallet and don't use their main wallet on their daily work device be it a desktop a laptop or a smartphone. I only have hot wallets with small amounts of Bitcoin on my mobile devices and at the end of the week I am transferring everything I don't need to my cold storage so if someone manages to breach my system the damage would be very small anyways.
445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SECURITY, Have you been a victim? How safe are your bitcoins? on: April 24, 2016, 07:27:01 PM
I do agree that Linux is relatively more safer than Windows OS but it's for more tech-savvy people that are not afraid to work with command line. I know that graphical environments for Linux have advanced a lot but still it's not for the average joe to fiddle with settings and modifications every other day to get things to work when with Windows 10 everything is ready right out of the box. And if you are a gamer you will have a hard time trying to run games on that. I think if you are serious with upping your online security you could dual-boot Linux and Windows on the same machine. Windows for your daily work and Linux when you are dealing with sensitive information prone to attack.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ever find an old wallet? on: April 24, 2016, 07:15:55 PM
Congratulations dude I am very happy for your happy ending. I haven't had any old wallets of mine to recover but I have heard a lot of horror stories of people throwing away their obsolete HDD drives from desktop and laptop machines. There was one guy in the UK who threw away his old HDD with a lot of mined Bitcoins on it to a landfill site and later on when the price went to the Moon he was trying to dig it out. The amount was huge I think more than 1 million at the time and his story was all over the news. I think it was just after the price hit $1200 in 2013.
447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steam + Bitcoin = Confirmed ! on: April 24, 2016, 07:04:32 PM
I wonder if Valve will add Bitcoin to the Steam market as well. It would make sense to do so as Bitcoin is basically a digital currency so why not allow people to trade skins for it too if they are going to add a Bitcoin payment option when purchasing games. Not that we are going to be withdrawing any Bitcoin from Steam but I would be pleased to trade stuff on the Steam market with Bitcoin. I am looking forward to the launch please Valve hurry up already.
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I need a Bitcoin-Stick! on: April 24, 2016, 06:56:42 PM
It's a pity Almost Human got cancelled after its first season the tv show had a lot of potential in my opinion and kudos to the producers for their decision to present Bitcoin. I would love it if more sci-fi shows include Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology in some episodes so more viewers would get interested watching. I heard Karl Urban wants to make a Judge Dredd tv series perhaps we will have another dose of Bitcoin tech there as well  Cheesy
449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At no time does Valve receive or hold bitcoin, pay us in traditional currency on: April 22, 2016, 02:42:01 PM
Valve are not an investment company and they don't need to trade and hold Bitcoins to make money so I think this is to be expected from them using another payment processor to take care of the Bitcoin transactions and convert them back to fiat on the spot. The mere inclusion of Bitcoin on Steam is a giant step for the Bitcoin community as a whole because it will increase the user base.
450  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling problem on: April 22, 2016, 01:23:51 PM
If you need to scratch that gambling itch from time to time you can search for freerolls and play these instead of playing for real money. It's very hard to get rid of that addiction but at least you won't be losing any more money. I used to play poker for real cash and nowadays I just gamble with play chips whenever I get the urge to play.
451  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does sending Bitcoins feel good? on: April 22, 2016, 12:32:33 PM
Sending Bitcoins feels good because I am supporting the community and paying less in fees than if I used credit card for my purchases. And it's always a great feeling when I am using an innovative payment system like Bitcoin while my friends are still dealing with bank cards.
452  Economy / Services / Re: Renting accounts????? on: April 22, 2016, 12:07:26 PM
I think this idea won't work because the tenants of your account may not treat it as an asset and get it banned or red trusted in the process if they decide to spam to get more money from signature campaigns. Plus there is a vigilante police going on on the forum that will give you  feedback the moment you try to change hands of the account. Or people could take out loans in your name and give the account as collateral which would be very bad.
453  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Halving Hype on: April 22, 2016, 11:41:59 AM
I think the serious pump will start in late May. I am not very sure how high it would go but I am thinking around $800 max. The price will settle at plus 50% of the current value so my expectation is around $600-$650. I would love it if we pass the $1000 threshold this year but I am kinda skeptical about that.
454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got hacked , All my Bitcoin and Litecoin lost on: April 22, 2016, 11:33:22 AM
OP have you mentioned to anyone that you have that kind of digital money? 425 Bitcoins and 40 000 Litecoins are a huge amount of cash. Maybe you have told a close friend or a family member because if they knew your full name telephone number job and address it must have been someone in your circle. I don't think it's a random attack someone must have known these coins belonged to you. If you have any doubts contact the local police and ask if they can investigate a possible scammer friend of yours.
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unlicensed Exchangers on: April 22, 2016, 11:15:54 AM
Bitcoin is still not regulated as a currency so anyone could open a Bitcoin exchange if they wish and they can't be closed because they aren't doing anything illegal. If Bitcoin is to be regulated then all the exchanges that want to operate in a given country would need to obtain a license from the government.
456  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we should fear a cashless world on: April 22, 2016, 06:42:40 AM
Why do all the Scandinavian countries want to transition to a cashless society? Moreover the people there use predominantly credit and debit cards and do most of their big purchases online and even pay for their daily grocery shopping via cards too.  Whay do you think guys?
457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get Ready! Bitcoin is about to get Millions of buyers coming in . . . on: April 22, 2016, 06:33:28 AM
I think Steam will probably facilitate Bitcoin payments through BitPay. I am more interested in buying games during the holdiay sales when there are massive discounts. I don't like G2A so I will be very happy to get games on Steam with Bitcoin. Now it all depends on if there will be special discounts when shopping with Bitcoin or not.
458  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's Price Starting to Go Up.... on: April 22, 2016, 06:26:45 AM
The news that Steam will be adding bitcoin as a payment option will probably have something to do with a rise also.

Yeah mate I am eagerly waiting Steam to include Bitcoin at checkout. Steam is the biggest online games retailer and Bitcoin will gain massive exposure to million of gamers around the world. If Steam offers also bigger discounts if we buy with Bitcoin this would be great. The 3rd party resellers of Steam gift cards and games always have had a premium on the prices compared to the Steam shop so now we could get cheaper games with Bitcoin through the official shop.
459  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to stay away from gambling? suggestions ? on: April 21, 2016, 11:18:36 AM
Summer is coming people. If you are fed up with gambling and want to take a break go out and take on some summer activity or sport. I am getting into flying drones myself and it's a lot of fun and certainly keeps my mind off sportsbetting.
460  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin on webcam sites ? on: April 21, 2016, 11:12:47 AM
I have seen people using Bitcoin for donations on Twitch tv. It's technically a cam site where people play games and receive donations from viewers. I have seen a lot of girls basically selling themselves out for money. Bitcoin can be a great anonymous way to get paid.
