Simply set up a CGMiner shortcut. Have her close the miner when she wants to play and simply double click the shortcut when she ends play (if she remembers), or have it in Startup folder, and simply instruct her to restart the computer whenever she's done (this really depends on who you're trying to instruct as to which of these set of instructions is simpler).

right then - i'm interested in ANY NES/SNES consoles/controllers

i like the look of that motherboard with the 5 blue PCI-e connectors... also looking for a socket 775 motherboard with 3 or more slots.

Do you have 8GB matched DDR2 800 or 1066 preferably.

I do not have matching RAM for the MSI board you speak of. I have an MSI with a PCU (AMD Sempron), and one without a PCU. They have a lot of slots, on board power button, electronic error code display, it's actually quite nice.

I have at least a SNES console model 1 available, just the controller and system or hookups desired as well? Again, PM me. I might have a spare NES, or at least one that just needs a new 72 pin connector (easy as pie).

fortunatley i wasnt looking for ram for the board - i assume that it is DDR3 rather than DDR2.

Hmm its the SNES stuff that im more interested in - i'm in the UK rather than US so shipping is the biggest issue.

what brands and speeds of 2GB DDR2 do you have?

Going to PM you because I'm awful at responding to the thread!

Posting to indicate the two 5870 VaporX have been SOLD.

444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Could Have Existed in the 90s? on: July 16, 2013, 11:29:39 PM
I would have likely been into it, I was all about the internet after about 95 or so. All kind of new applications, BTC could have had a longer time to build underground and I don't see why it couldn't have been adopted in the same fashion, minus the large scale ability to convey information to masses - that part would be more important once it is stable and capable, more importantly, healthy against attack. What are the inherent problems with it existing in the 90s? We had CPUs, GPUs, I ran SETI, so why couldn't we have been mining?
445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone is sending out 0.001 BTC's to hundreds of random people. Who and why? on: July 12, 2013, 12:27:16 AM
I think it's a probe to test and see which new addresses are associated with that old one; when you spend that 0.001 BTC along with some of your other inputs they will become linked and they'll know that the same person that owned that old change address owns some other inputs that might not be otherwise associated with it. You could delete that change key from your wallet, or first import it somewhere else -- maybe redeem it on mtgox or something and thus foil their scheme :p

Clever... All of it.

Had a dream I mined some of this. Woke up to find out it was disconnected instead. Zero XPM. Ah well.

It must have been asked before, but so many pages.. so here goes; how would I (solo)mine this? Can I just use cgminer?
click help -> debug window.
then on the console tab, type 'setgenerate true'.
it wont tell  you you are mining, but if you check your process explorer, you will see all of your cores maxed.

Was confused, but now I see this. I also see the CPU is maxed, so I'm mining now? Only way to know is find a block, righht? Hmm..

You can run "getmininginfo" or "getprimespersec" in the console (Help>Debug Console).

So I am getting "7 primes per sec", which sounds pretty awful. Get block in... Wink

452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The general population is insanely ignorant about Bitcoin - and here's proof. on: July 07, 2013, 08:05:32 PM
If the "Founder" of that forum actually knew how much USD % was used for "illicit" activities, maybe he wouldn't want to be tied to that currency, either? But, ignorance is bliss. You have to realize that most of the people running about have NO idea how the monetary system works, that's the way they like it and how they perpetuate further control. Education is the only way and that assumes they're open to it.

The heat and wear that you will force onto your GPU just for a few cents is NOT worth it. Plus, you will most likely see an increase in your electric bill that outweighs what few bitcents you will make.

Example: I recently started undervolting my GPUs to maintain the most profitable setting possible. Now, I shut them off, as I would have to undervolt and underclock to all hell just to not mine at a loss. This applies to BTC, but you might have a little better luck with LTC. However, your temps are going to be worse with LTC, and I wouldn't expect it to remain profitable forever.

Choice 1: Buy the GTX and game away
Choice 2: Buy the Radeons and mine LTC while at work. You might make a few (literally, a few) $ on the side, but is that extra heat, power, and wear/tear worth it?

This is the reason people are saying that you shouldn't buy GPUs to mine on anymore.

I suppose the difference is most of my needs can be met on a 5870, so I'm absolutely not out buying anything, but if I were to built a new PC, the miner in me would likely choose a miner friendly card, but I always buy very outdated cards when gaming. These seem to run recent games really well. But if I were doing it solely for gaming and it somehow compromised that, I suppose I wouldn't.
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we reduce our reliance on MtGOX? on: July 07, 2013, 02:29:19 AM
Stop using it or referencing it.

I hear all the time "Let's use CampBX. But BTC-E is at... " Gox's time will come.

the way to do it is simple

lets say bitcoin is MTGOX valued at $70

let take a merchant that sells bitcoins and T-Shirts.

he sells Tshirts at $8 each (fiat)
he sells bitcoins at $80 each
but offers people  T-shirts at 0.09BTC ($7.20) to tempt people to buy bitcoins

other merchants start following suite.

soon the bitcoin population see bitcoins are being bought for $80 and ignore mtgox prices as mtgox is limited in its routes to fund, due to easier methods of gaining bitcoin in retail stores.

also those that buy bitcoins at $80 wont sell them on MTGox for under $80.. making MTGOX follow retailer pricing, instead of the other way around

Not familiar with all the neo laws, if an in store physical merchant were to accept BTC for a variety of goods, could he also sell BTC? I was under the impression that would make one some sort of transmitter or "launderer" in the commercial sense, and you would need some expensive license. Yes/no?
456  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Building High-End Gaming System - does it make sense to mine on it while idle? on: July 07, 2013, 02:18:33 AM
GPU mining is dead dead dead. Your dream of using BTC to pay the power bill and saving the rest to "spend at amazon one day" is a dream in more ways than one  Wink

I can't say that it would be immensely profitable, but I can't stand to run a computer without mining. I'm wasting electricity, doing tasks that don't impede mining, it drives me nuts. I know I could be making more than it cost to run the machine, so I always mine. Even if I could be just breaking even, that sounds a lot better than net negative.. In other words, I don't much listen to folks who say it isn't worth it to mine with GPU - I find that it is. Not BTC, as perhaps traditionally, but investigate alt coins and you'll find a world of options for your old hardware. Though from time to time I still do switch to PPS BTC as a "old standard", so to speak.

What would I have to pay for a few thousand PXC?

Right now you would have to visit https://www.cryptsy.com and pick up PXC or do a private deal.

If someone is interested in the latter, they can PM me!

459  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.S. Postal Service Logging All Mail for Law Enforcement on: July 06, 2013, 09:52:09 PM
Tracking mail for delivery and tracking mail regardless if it has tracking services, building a giant database, and handing it off to 3rd parties is different than signing up for a requested service. Information is already leaking out that the prism system is being used to collect information to sell to PRIVATE INDUSTRY to the highest bidder. In addition people don't realize how detailed of a profile of somone's life one can make with such little bits of information, and how easily that information can be used to hurt you regardless of the legality of your activities.

Not to mention future incrimination...

Really fun, you should do more.

My favorite is the "Is the Manipulator..."? I'd also like sources for fun reading. I've been doing a lot of back reading tonight.

thanks Cheesy

I put some links but it's difficult to find all of them, if you find others I will edit the first post Smiley

The first source you linked - that's about the time I first started mining. I realized when I came across the post from evorhees and remembered the text exactly, like dejavu, then looked to the date on the left, and it was August, right when I began getting into BTC again, permanently this time. Just took a while to get me mining and really on the ball. I like the economics and all the other discussions here for quite some time before jumping (to the forums).

Finance proved a hurdle (of my own design, had I known then what I know now..). I hadn't had a PC in years either, so some months later I finally began working on that project. However, not being that well versed with BTC, and not thinking as a "primary" focus, but something I could do, I ended up with nVidia card. So once this PC was built (sometime early 2012), I began trying to mine with that, but the hashing was around 80MH at best. Fortunately the case was big - this proved useful later when I happened upon a random deal elsewhere for other cards. The CPU isn't bad, when mining LTC it gets around 40-50khash. It was a couple months later that I jumped into here, became a lot more fluent, nabbed some 5850s, open air rig and have been mining ever since! Only lately have I been having some issues.. mostly frustration. I have my rigs setup, and most days they are running. But I don't have the time or effort right now to devote to what would be at least 2-3 more ghash or  scrypt.
