It is a volatile commodity Bitcoin.  Buy on the dips (there will be many more), not chase on the way up.
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did anyone notice that $1 million (7500BTC) transaction today?? on: September 01, 2013, 06:06:52 PM
This is why BTC exists - he also could have paid a small tx fee of .0001 BTC:)

It funny how bitcoin behaving more like gold than even gold!
466  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-30 - Bitcoin Foundation meets Washington [Audio] on: September 01, 2013, 06:05:09 PM
Here's what it really is:

1.) A lazy way to get a completely free briefing on a topic that may threaten the existing financial infrastructure. (if it isn't co-opted or integrated).

2.) An opportunity to assign faces/names to "Bitcoin", just in case they need to make an example out of someone.

3.) A display of complete cluelessness on part of the Foundation, thinking that the moderate scenario has a chance in hell. (Softball regulation, some hooks for government revenue streams. The problem here is, even if it starts out this way, when the threat becomes more apparent - it won't end this way.)

If you think that regulation and working within the system is the overall goal of Bitcoin, you're not paying attention to why Bitcoin was created in the first place.

Bitcoin is freedom. Financial freedom that isn't reliant on any kind of controls. Please explain to me how that reconciles with the urge of the Foundation to seek controls on using Bitcoin. They're incompatible, and everyone should understand that. The fact that the Foundation doesn't, and some users don't -- is a rather appalling display of critical thinking failure.

I agree, I think this is more fact-finding for eventual prosecutions and scapegoating
467  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Vircurex [VCX] - Going public on: September 01, 2013, 06:04:09 PM
Update on the listing.

We have two positive news for the listing of Vircurex.

1. The license fee costs for the platform has been reduced by 200BTC.
2. The cost of BTC/USD has changed in a favourable way, i.e. we will require to raise less BTCs.

Assuming the BTC/USD remains at its current level, we'll adjust he listing as follows:

Total number of shares issued:   31,000 shares
Total publicly listed/traded shares:    9,300 shares

Kumula,
I have used your exchange and like it.  But this is a terrible deal for shareholders.  It is not fair, common or reasonable to charge a large licensing fee and keep the majority of the equity.  The licensing fee to yourself is a scam and you know it.  It one or the other - when you do an IPO, your payout is two parts:
1. You can now draw a management fee
2. The equity you still hold is now easy to sell - you have liquidity

If you are serious, scrap the IPO and remake the prospectus.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 01, 2013, 05:56:17 PM
Forgive me if this is a really dumb oversight on my part, but I am confused about one thing,

If the house edge is 1%, then in the long run that is the "profit" that should be produced.
JD has had almost 1 million BTC wagered currently (through over 100 million bets), enough in my opinion to smooth out and lucky/unlucky streaks that may have occurred.

Based on this, why is the site profit about 0.6%, a large variance from the 1% I would expect.

I know I have missed something, so who can enlighten me?

If you looked at the 99.9 million small bets I've no doubt the profit would be near 1%.  It's the tiny proportion of big bets that cause the difference - which there haven't been enough of to have any expectation of profit being near the theoretical edge.

Here's how it happens - consider the following scenario

100 million bets of .00001 at 50/50 only amounts to 1k BTC bet - with an expected house profit of 10 BTC.  Actual edge would be very near expectation for sure.
A single 10 BTC bet at 50/50 on top of those would mean the house would either be at double expected edge or no profit at all - despite there being 100 million and one bets.

That's basically what's happened - with the actual returns being dominated by a relatively small number of large (100 BTC+) bets drowning out the performance of all the much smaller bets.
Explained perfectly - in this case a lucky streak by the whale nakowa/cici/celeste - where he hit the max bet at the time 9 times in a row in under a minute.  If anything, it a positibe for prospective gamblers since the house edge appears as being effectively 0.6% based on historical performance.  Not quite as good a salespitch for investors though!

Thanks guys. I would invest more heavily in JD (Well, relative to what I have) but I have too much tied up in LTC and I do not consider it a good time to move into BTC. Someone should make JD-LTC.

Anyway, I put 0.2BTC in on 18/08/13 (or 08/18/13 for 'murica) and now that has grown by just over 1% (currently 0.20215833). Is that normal for 2 weeks?
That'll never happen - Dooglus is a hard-core old-school bitcoiner.
469  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] GeForce GTX TITAN for $780 each, shipped w/ insurance, need 2 on: September 01, 2013, 05:55:26 PM
sorry insurance and shipping will be over 100 bucks. not paying that or sending it to you blindly without payment.

O_o where are you shipping from? Shipping USPS Priority mail from California to Wisconsin for a 5 pound package costs about $27 total with $800 in insurance. Or you could send it registered for $34 total but it has to be mailed in person at the post office.

Anyways, still interested. I'll bump my offer up to $800.
Just curious - why not GTX 790 (a dual gtx 780 card), which has higher performance than the titan at the same price? You can run them in SLI also and the performance advatage increases even more.

You really should look into Namecoin which is merge mined with BTC.
471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if someone bought up all the existing bitcoins? on: September 01, 2013, 05:52:46 PM
That would be wonderful - I would hold out until the price is up 1000000Xs:)
472  Economy / Auctions / Re: [SELL] Advertise on Just-Dice.com on: September 01, 2013, 05:49:29 PM
1... Tired of bidding, I am taking it or one of you is paying the man.

And

How do you know I am advertising porn? Maybe I am starting a fresh water program for the kids of Detroit or a Stop Presuming Over Though shit fund (aka SPOT, the shit is silent.)

1. Stop bidding, it fine - it goes to the highest bidder, not to whoever cries the most (wah! wah!)
2. Figured it would be your cam site (which is fine, you earning it).  It a logical conclusion, are you starting a fresh water program charity and want to advertise it on a bitcoin dice site?

474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 01, 2013, 05:42:37 PM
I've decided on the last date to donate: >1 BTC donations before or on September 2nd will get the beta!

So people who donate 1 BTC won't be getting it on the 2nd? Or do you mean >= 1?

From the OP comments: "Donate 1 BTC or more before or on Septempber 2nd and get early beta access!"
So its 1 BTC or more, I would assume.
I think that is pretty clear and he would not withhold it over a technicality that can be resolved with a single satoshi
475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Mining Rig - Parallela on: September 01, 2013, 05:41:47 PM
Anyone bought one of these? Please let us know! I'm willing to get wet with this project.

I paid for one, and I'm on the preorder list. I'm looking forward to play with it!!
I am very curious to see how it works - would seem like an ideal match on a price/xpm mining basis.
I wonder if this will still be cost-effective now that the gpu miner finally looks like it becoming a reality.

I don't mind if it ends up being not cost-effective, I plan to use it for other things too.
I know - but it is so cheap relative to high-end GPUs, it might still be a better value.

477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multi Cryptocoin Payment Processing [Coin List Vote] on: September 01, 2013, 05:34:57 PM
Something is wrong when you drop two of the top coins by one of the most active, innovative and trusted developers in cryptocurrencies.

This^

Also, PPC and XPM are both in the top 10 market cap. http://coinmarketcap.com/

Why the hell you would remove two of the most popular and innovative coins is very puzzling.

I am likewise puzzled why you would support coins with a $6,000 market cap (KGC) and $36,000 market cap (BQC) while discontinuing support of a coin with a $3,600,000 market cap (PPC). If you hadn't supported it already and couldn't prioritize the development time that would be understandable, but just dropping it after the implementation is complete doesn't compute. Makes my mind grasp at conspiracy theories: were you threatened to drop it? Paid to drop it? Probably not, but there is more to this than what I can see and understand.

Maybe this is insight to the types of "business" decisions they will be making in the future. I had just started to put together something with hopes of using XPM and WDC with them. I guess not anymore.
The entire decision is ridiculous.
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 01, 2013, 04:49:18 PM
How will the delivery of the BETA GPU miner be delivered to the ~ 80+ donators Huh

Two options.

With great difficulty.

Or not at all.

I think this thing got a bit out of hand for mtlmr, though. I'm doubtful he'll be able to handle delivering it to so many people, unless if he PM'd the donators some private URL to which the miner will be uploaded when the time comes, or something.
I don't think this is so hard to do at all

Manually finding the posts of 80+ people who donated, and then PMing them? That seems pretty hard. Only way for it to be easy is if he wrote down the names of donators, or something.
They all either posted in the initial thread or they PM'd him.  Anyone with a brain should have PM'd him anyway when they sent in the donation.

Congrats on 100,000,000 rolls Doog!

Thank you Smiley

Does that make Just-Dice "the most popular Bitcoin betting game in the universe"?

The previous "most popular Bitcoin betting game in the universe" has less than 6 million bets after more than a year of operation...  Smiley
Let's hope Just-Dice still around for it's 1 Billionth Roll:)
