Zverev was on a good path to reach the season finale in Turin. But after disappointing results in Shanghai he has now disappointed in Tokyo. He was knocked out in the first round with 6:3 and 6:4 against Thompson. A very weak service game, no ideas and no used break points. No idea why he often loses in the first rounds. But it will not be easy for qualifying for Turin. Fritz, Ruud and Hurkacz are the candidates who can still bring him back to place 9.

Yeah, actually Zverev and Tsitsipas are the biggest disappointments of this season for me. Bigger disappointment was only Holger Rune who simply screwed up his season completely. Honestly, Medvedev and Alcaraz also sort of underperformed this year too. At least, I was expecting more from them. Medvedev had a great start of the season but he couldn't keep the momentum going. Carlitos also missed several opportunities, including Grand Slam titles due to injuries and losing to Djokovic in the final.
462  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of Russian and Ukrain war on world economy on: October 16, 2023, 09:00:18 PM

Anyway, Ukraine's counter-offensive is now officially over. The Russians are attacking near Avdiivka and now also in Robotyne-Verbove in southern Ukraine. To sum it up, Ukraine has lost (I'm using the Russia's Ministry of Defence data here, because according to Ukraine there have been no casualties so far) 43000 soldiers during the offensive,  26 fighter jets, 9 helicopters, 1 831 tanks, APC and other armored vehicles, including 25 Leopard 2 tanks, 7 AMX tanks and 21 Bradley APC. Additionally, Russia has destroyed 76 M777 artillery systems and 84 British, French, German and US built howitzers. All this just to regain control over a couple square miles of territory (which is being recaptured by Russia atm).
Firstly, I join the comments previously made by another participant in this forum to you not to insult other participants, not to call them idiots and not to point out to Ukrainians that their place is now in the trenches at the front, and not here on the forum.
If you don't want to be called an idiot, don't act like one. For example, this is what you wrote in this very post, quote:

Quote
"the losses of Ukrainians in September alone amount to more than 17,000 soldiers and more than 2,700 weapons. If Ukraine had suffered such losses, then by this time it would no longer have either soldiers or equipment, even taking into account not so much Western assistance."

So, basically, in this statement you're claiming that if Ukraine would lose 17000 troops, it would have no soldiers left. I'm not sure what you wanted to say or if you misunderstood the original statement but it is what it is. This is completely illogical to say the least. You have also stated earlier that Russia lost 1000000 soldiers which is another idiotic claim.

Quote from: Argoo
Secondly, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has not yet been completed and will not be completed in the near future. The leaders of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry claim that it will continue in the winter until the last occupier leaves the territory of Ukraine or falls into its soil. The completion of the Ukrainian counter-offensive was only announced from the UN rostrum by Russian representative Nebenzya, although Ukraine did not authorize him to do so.
Regarding the figures you indicated for military losses in Ukraine, they are really interesting. True, in the link you provided in the text of the article, according to the words of the Minister of Attack (one can hardly call him defense) of Russia, Shoigu, the losses of Ukrainians in September alone amount to more than 17,000 soldiers and more than 2,700 weapons. If Ukraine had suffered such losses, then by this time it would no longer have either soldiers or equipment, even taking into account not so much Western assistance.

But Ukrainians are defending their land from rabid hordes of invaders and they have no other choice. Why should Russians die on foreign soil? For the sake of crazy ideas about creating a great empire for their tsar and dictator Putin? By the way, the other day the Council of Europe recognized that there is a dictatorship in Russia, and Putin is an illegitimate dictator.
Another chunk of low quality useless pompous propaganda. Why don't you join the AFU and go fight some Russians instead of trolling here on this forum? You don't have enough courage, do you?  Cool
463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 15, 2023, 12:35:36 PM
It was a very close three-set match, especially the deciding set and it was Hurbet Hurkacz's second ATP Masters 1000 title.
The third set was quite difficult to predict when in the tiebreak Hurkacz managed to equalize the points at 5-5 and Rublev had at least one championship point opportunity which he couldn't take advantage of.

WTA Zhengzhou, Krejikova vs Zheng, this will be a tight match as well as it should be even though the host tennis player is more favored but Krejikova so far in this tournament is still solid so even though Zheng can become champion it will be difficult, but I predict Krejikova will be the champion in this tournament.

Congrats to Hubi on his second Masters title! Well done! Tie-breaker was very close and Rublev was even ahead 5:4 with 2 serves!

As to Zhengzhou WTA, I agree, Krejcikova is very likely to win. The match is underway now, the Czech is leading comfortably 6:2.
464  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of Russian and Ukrain war on world economy on: October 15, 2023, 12:03:54 PM
LOL.. there was so much hype after the Ukrainian announced their "counter-offensive" a few months back. But now they are on the backfoot, as Russians have launched new attacks in Avdeevka and Kupyansk. Also, Ukrainians seems to be running out of manpower, while there are no reports that Russians are facing the same situation. And all this have happened despite Western nations stepping up their military and financial aid to Ukraine. Also, while Russians face no shortage of equipment or artillery shells, despite western support Ukraine is running out of equipment and shells.

Go ahead and tell me about "everything is going according to plan" and "Ukraine was taken in 2-3 weeks" Smiley))))

Tu map, with chronology and confirmed situation on the front, enjoy the reality - https://deepstatemap.live/#6/49.438/32.053

Over the last couple of days russia tried to launch a counteroffensive, but..... the meat assault failed again, no results were achieved. Although... There were results - about 60 pieces of equipment and about 1500 disposable Russian terrorists went to hell Smiley

Also in the last 2 days, after the special operation of the AFU, 2 ships of the Black Sea fleet of the terrorist country were badly damaged. Pravda (the ministry of total lies), oops the russian ministry of defense, came up with a touching story about the exercises. Well, let it be an exercise, and a successful, self-planned destruction of their own ship Smiley

And let's get back to the "success of russia" Smiley
- War was the main cause of death among young Russians last year. They have not yet counted their disposable expendables in 2023 Smiley
- PACE called to recognize Putin illegitimate after 2024
- The real effective ruble exchange rate has collapsed by almost 30% since the beginning of the year
- The Russian Federation obliged exporters to return 80% of foreign currency earnings, sell 90% of repatriated amount... But we were listening to Putin - nobody is interested in the dollar exchange rate Smiley)))))
- Putin signed an order for a new mobilization of 150,000 torsos.
- The budget of russia in 2024 includes death payments for servicemen in SWO, in the amount of 100.000 payments ! I.e. it is already believed that in 2024 the AFU will destroy at least 100.00 more Russian terrorists ! Smiley

By the way, a small forecast - soon Russia will classify official data on oil production Smiley

Not sure why are you making up these "news" out of thin air. What's the point? Russia is not getting weaker because of your lies.

You have been caught red-handed spreading lies here so many times that you are not even trying to specify the sources. The truth is, these lies are so obvious that even Ukrainian news outlets refuse to publish them. They don't want to look stupid. But that's not the case with you, bozo.  Grin

It would be much better if you could help your country by joining the AFU in Donbas! But you're too cowardly and you can only troll from the safety of your home.  Grin

Anyway, Ukraine's counter-offensive is now officially over. The Russians are attacking near Avdiivka and now also in Robotyne-Verbove in southern Ukraine. To sum it up, Ukraine has lost (I'm using the Russia's Ministry of Defence data here, because according to Ukraine there have been no casualties so far) 43000 soldiers during the offensive,  26 fighter jets, 9 helicopters, 1 831 tanks, APC and other armored vehicles, including 25 Leopard 2 tanks, 7 АМХ tanks and 21 Bradley APC. All this just to regain control over a couple square miles of territory (which is being recaptured by Russia atm).

AFU troops are surrendering en masse:

Quote
“This is amazing. This is a story the Western media does not want you to see,” Morris said on his YouTube channel, referring to “tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers laying down the weapons and surrendering to the Russian troops.”

https://sputnikglobe.com/20230930/thousands-of-ukrainian-troops-surrender-via-russian-radio-hotline-1113816561.html

And you're jerking off to the news that ruble had lost 30% of it's value? What a lunatic!  Grin

Then no problem, but you seem to be triggered by something, you bring this thing called Russia so much into discussion, why?
Are you Russian or something? Who cares, I don't give a crap about what nationality or where people live or what language they use, this is about employment in Europe, why would you even have a problem with it?
Muahaha, actually you'ŗe the one mentioning Russia most frequently here in this thread:

Can't wait to see the usual Russian muppets trying to twist this as being bad!

Maybe that's one of the reasons thousands flee to Europe instead of let's say Russia?

1 how much was your electricity (or gas) bill let's say in 2021 vs now
2 how much did you spend on groceries in 2021 vs now
3. how much you spend on fuel now vs 2021

The numbers will also give you a clue on why unemployment rate is falling.  Grin

Deal,
1) price per kWh was 15 cents pe kwh is now 21cents per kwh!
2) common do you actually know somebody who writes down how much he spends on food a month? get real!
Ask something about the price per item or so, but forget that, you don't even have to take my word for it
Just grab the Aldi prospekt as the whole archive from 2016 on is online and compare the price
3) Again, why even bother asking me when there is fuelo.net
it was 1.57 euros and it's now 1.72 euros

The horroooooorr!  Grin

Any more questions? Always happy to help people!

Ok it seems you're from Bulgaria. Energy prices are not very high there for residential users, actually way below the average EU price:

So you're lucky in a way but that doesn't mean other countries are not feeling the pain.
466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs the government on: October 13, 2023, 11:12:03 PM
Government and their fear for Bitcoin!

Bitcoin as a decentralized digital currency that operate without a financial system or without being controlled by the government is really creating panick and fear in most government officials.

The government just want to be in charge of everything, from monitoring your transaction to knowing how much people are worth financially, but Bitcoin is becoming too powerful for them too handle, which to me is understandable, but to them it's a ugly reality.

Financial power and control is returning back to the people, which is a welcome development.

The sweet reality is that Bitcoin is here too stay, if they ban Bitcoin the mass will rise up against them, so they are just looking for a way to contain the influence of Bitcoin and discredit it.
To me Bitcoin is one of the best thing that has ever happened to finance because everyone loves privacy.

One thing I love about Bitcoin is that when the haters voice grows louder and the value drop base on their policies, just to attack it, Bitcoin still fight it way back up,

Please the government need to know this, they have already lost.
All the bitcoineers cheers

Bitcoin is an alternative for a "cashless society" with total governmental control of your money, spending, taxes etc. Governments and banks are afraid of bitcoinization, because, as you have correctly mentioned, Bitcoin is not centralized and therefore can't be controlled, confiscated, frozen etc.
467  Economy / Economics / Re: Agriculture vs oil on: October 13, 2023, 11:05:31 PM
We know the oil market is booming and countries with oil resources are really making a huge fund out of it and sometimes they do it at the negligence of another local natural resource.

But, of course, the agricultural sector, though not given the proper recognition and the required investment is one sector that contributes seriously to the development and dependence of most nations .

No matter how blessed a country is with oil minerals, if its agricultural sector isn't working and she has to rely on other country for her food and agricultural resources then in event of war or political differences they might suffer.

Agriculture vs oil, which is the big deal when it comes to the economic strength of a country?

I guess oil as agriculture (and also many other industries) depends on oil but oil doesn't depend on agriculture. Oil has great liquidity - there's high demand globally and you can sell it easily.

469  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 13, 2023, 10:48:32 PM
At WTA Zhengzhou Krejcikova will play Kasatkina and Paolini will meet Zheng in the semis tomorrow.

Krejcikova won her match against Lesia Tsurenko 6:3 (the Ukrainian veteran had to withdraw after the first set). It seems she had some pain in her back.

My bets for tomorrow will be (in bold):
Krejcikova v Kasatkina
Paolini v Zheng

A bit oversighted by nevertheless interesting WTA Hong Kong has also reached the semifinal stage:

Fernandez v Blinkova
Trevisan v Siniakova

Please pay attention there are Italian players in both tournaments. Is this the renaissance of the Italian WTA tennis? I remember the times of Sara Errani, Roberta Vinci, Flavia Pennetta etc... and now they have Paolini, Trevisan, Bronzetti... lots of talented young players.

Low employment is bad for the EU!
Medium employment is bad for the EU!
High employment is bad for the EU!

This images from X should put paid to this confusion.

Satoshi didn't make the tweet.

Ok that explains it. Initially I thought it was Elon Musk having fun (as he can now get access to all Twitter accounts) but this one is even more banal. Faketoshi is trying to impersonate Satoshi yet another time. I really think such misleading fake accounts should be banned or at least verified sign should be stripped.
472  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 13, 2023, 08:30:40 PM
He now faces Hurkacz in the semi final which is a hard one to predict. I think both players
are kind of on the same level.

This is Korda's first masters semi final! hard to believe!

Odds are: Hurkacz 1.83 - 1.91 Korda

The first semi-final is set. Dimitrov against Rublev. Both won in the quarter-finals with 2 sets each. Rublev is the favourite in this semi-final and he is also the favourite to win this Masters. But there were already been a lot surprises in this tournament and I am curious to see who will win the second semi-final. The odds are very similar and the form of the day will probably decide at the end.

The first semi final is Hurkacz v Korda and is going to be close, very close.

Second semi final is Dimitrov v Rublev. Dimitrov had a bit of a battle in the first set
tie break but won in two sets. Rublev won easily in two sets against Humbert, I
thought that was going to be closer.

Odds tomorrow on the send semi final are:
Dimitrov 2.35 - 1.59 Rublev
I think thats about right, Rublev should win but if Dimitrov can replicate his quarter final
performance he will post a bigger threat to Rublev.

I will be betting on Rublev in Rublev v Dimitrov. Dimitrov is playing possibly the best tournament of his entire career. Haven't seen him play so good in years. As to the second semifinal you're absolutely right - it will be damn close, therefore I won't be betting. Normally I'd say Hurkacz but Korda was just perfect during the whole tournament too. Hard to say really.

Europe has broken all 20 years' records, in both the lowest unemployment level and in the percentage of citizens employed.
Now do purchasing power. The goal shouldn't be having more jobs, the goal should be being able to make a living.

474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is cryptocurrency a financial pyramid on: October 13, 2023, 06:12:10 PM
I came across a news on Quora and I went into a very deep reason on the reality  of life and judge from the article on the post, I couldn't agree less with the author/writer because at the long run, it seems money is just circulating and the moment  money seizes circulation, even the price of bitcoin  is affected, hence the price of bitcoin  would increase if demand increases and demand can only increase when there is more money to spend.

So I had to bring this to the forum to know if you guys also think, cryptocurrency is some ways a financial pyramid.
Let's discuss please

Crypto? In most cases I agree, it's a financial pyramid, a Ponzi scheme. But, with one exception, namely Bitcoin. Unlike other crypto, Bitcoin has no owners, no stakeholders, just a creator, Satoshi, who is not trying to influence his creation in any way. Satoshi owns approximately 1.000.000 coins but none of them have been spent so far and there are no signs this is going to happen in the nearest future.
475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Lightning Network Growth 1212% in the last 2 years on: October 13, 2023, 05:56:56 PM
Recently received news about the Bitcoin Lightning Network which experienced quite rapid growth in 2023 with a growth of 1212% in the last 2 years.

Bitcoin financial service River Financial reported on the growth of the Lightning Network,
from 503.115 transactions routed now soaring to 6.599.553 transactions in August 2023.

Sam Wouters, River's research analyst said the figure was "surprising" due to the drop in Bitcoin (BTC) price and loss of interest in online searches.
The report revealed that Bitcoin's price has fallen by 44%, while online searches for the top cryptocurrency have fallen by 45% since then, yet Lightning Network continues to grow.

The research analyst highlighted that Lightning Network has achieved a lot despite the market downturn and only having 5,000 BTC locked on the network.

Thanks, very nicely compiled and presented info. And of course I'm happy LN is growing strong and it seems like it's going parabolic. It will take some pressure off the mempool, particularly taking care of those Ordinals, BRC20 tokens and what not...
476  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 13, 2023, 05:05:02 PM

Yeah, so it means Paolini and Kasatkina are through to the semis. Kasatkina was super lucky Ons Jabeur withdrew from a quarterfinal match. Kasatkina will have to play Krejcikova or Tsurenko (most likely Krejcikova) but Paolini is waiting for the winner of Kalinina v Zheng (under way now Zheng is leading 3:1).
I'd say Krejcikova beats Kasatkina in straight sets. Unless Krej starts over very slow and out of rhythm. Kasatkina's problem remains the same over the years. Her serve is easy pickings for top 5 WTA players. She just can't work on improving it. Krejcikova should take advantage of it right from the get-go. People seem to forget quite easily that Krejcikova is a grandslam champion.

Yeah I agree, but Kasatkina is an ex-top10 player. When I watch her play I'm like: "how in the world did she get this high in her career?". She plays like a total amateur but something in her style makes opponents stumble. Perhaps it's the spin and that she's not attacking just waiting for the opponent to err.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of war on global economy. on: October 13, 2023, 02:06:41 PM
I will answer you as a citizen of Ukraine who saw all this with my own eyes. The problem is that this is not some kind of “local, small dispute between two countries” where it would really be reasonable to find a compromise solution. Russia came to DESTROY us. Completely destroy. And as Golda Meir said: You cannot negotiate with someone who has come to kill you.
This is reality - a maniac whose goal is to kill you will not negotiate with you, because... His goal is not agreement, but your destruction. This is exactly what the situation looks like in Ukraine. For one thing, I highly recommend listening to Russian state news channels - there is the wildest mixture of Nazism, xenophobia, misanthropy, denial of rights, ... RASHIZM (Russian Nazism) is worse than the brown plague of Nazism! Therefore, Russia itself, with its policies and openly stated goals, left us no choice.

If we compare Israeli-Palestinian conflict with Russo-Ukrainian war, Israel has been so much more brutal and merciless so far. Did Putin cover-bomb the sh*t out of Ukraine? No. Did he deliberately target densely-populated residential areas? Not really. Israel doesn't give a damn about hostages! Some of them have already been killed in airstrikes. Did Russians cut off water, internet, electricity, gas supply to Ukraine? Nope.

Right now Israel is pulling heavy tanks and other armored vehicles to the Palestinian border. They offered 24 hours for the civilians to flee the area. Seriously? Over a million people in 24h?   Shocked

Let's see what's new in the "great race", oh, the miserable rogue country Smiley

- The Russian government in the budget for 2024 increased the amount of funds for monthly compensation to the families of military personnel killed in Ukraine. The publication "We can explain", having analyzed the draft federal budget for 2024-2026, claims that the funds were laid down at the rate of 100,000 dead. Out of 150,000 mobilization, 2 out of 3 will die. According to statistics, for every 1 killed in the course of combat operations, there is 1 cripple and 2-3 wounded. Just do the math. Oh yes, and remember - in Russia lies are the basis of governance, so 100,000 is about 2-3 times underestimated Smiley

- IT-specialists began to be drafted into the army, despite deferrals
In Russia, cases of IT-company employees being drafted into the army for compulsory military service have become more frequent, despite the deferments provided for by law, lawyers defending the rights of conscripts told Kommersant.
According to the procedure in force since 2022, accredited IT companies send lists of employees between the ages of 18 and 27 to the Ministry of Finance via the Gosuservices portal no later than 50 calendar days before the draft. The Ministry checks the lists and sends them to the Ministry of Defense, which issues deferrals, recalled Alexey Vinokurov, a partner at the Legal Assistance law agency Alexei Vinokurov.

That's what state services are for - to catch consumables Smiley

- Russia will not receive its assets blocked in Western countries until it pays for the damage caused to Ukraine. This is stated in a statement following a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G7 countries. The G7 is also determined to finance Ukraine with the proceeds from Russian funds.

- Faced with the reluctance of big businesses to sell foreign currency proceeds, the government decided to set up a system for monitoring currency transactions to keep an eye on capital outflows from Russia. Everything is so good that you have to catch every dollar so that they don't take it out Smiley

- Despite all the measures of the authorities, price growth does not want to slow down, according to Rosstat data. In September, inflation amounted to 0.87%, or exactly 6% in annual terms - this is noticeably more than analysts expected, based on weekly data.

Muahaha and your sources are? Your wet dreams as always?  Grin

Just to remind you that mobilization in Ukraine has been going on since February 24 last year non stop! Nice read:

Quote
In the first weeks after the invasion, hundreds of thousands of ordinary Ukrainians volunteered to serve at the front in an explosion of patriotism that helped keep the country independent and fight off the initial attack.

More than a year later, however, many of those initial recruits are now dead, wounded or simply exhausted, and the army needs new recruits to fill the ranks. By now, most of those who want to fight have already signed up, leaving the military to recruit among a much more reluctant pool of men.

Fathers of more than three children, people with disabilities and those working in strategically important jobs are exempt from the draft, but everyone else is expected to join up if called. Crews of mobilisation officers roam the streets and sometimes go door to door to hand out notices. Viral videos show officers bundling men into vans to deposit them at enlistment offices.

And remember they're now accepting retarded people so you will be conscripted too! Btw, why are you still at home?  Roll Eyes

Could be then possibility. Electric cars are becoming more and more accepted into the roads and parkings now  Wink than ever before making it look like the car industry is already at a massive paradigm shift. There’s equal chances and reasons for the electric car world to both fail or flourish. It all bouls down to the fact that all it really takes is a single push at an oppprtune moment during this altercation, and we might see better days in the energy and fuel sector.

You see electric cars mostly in the cities, but if you travel, you will barely notice an electric car outside the city. It will be kind of exception, when a person has bought a new electric car and for the first time is travelling with it (and probably the last time), or he is just travelling to a nearest town. Until electric cars can not do more than 500km on a single charge, it will be a nervous and well planned journey. And it is highly difficult to make a random ride with it. With an average diesel or petrol car, you can ride for 1/4 of Europe during 1 8h working day. With electric car, you will do 2-3 charges and spend almost a day.
If we compare the mileage between diesel/gasoline cars and electric cars. So until now it seems that diesel cars are still superior. For example, I took research data from last year. namely "In 2021, the IEA noted that the average mileage of an electric car with a full battery condition was 349 kilometers."1
And this distance turns out to be only half the distance that can be traveled by a petrol car which can even cover a distance of 665 KM with a full petrol tank. This is what makes many people hesitate to buy an electric car.

But it all depends on the type of car itself. Because it is reported that the electric car from Tesla, namely Type Y, can cover a distance of around 507KM with a full battery charge2. But it still hasn't been able to beat fossil fuel cars. But as research continues, maybe one day the mileage of electric cars will beat that of fossil fuel/gasoline cars.

You're absolutely right, but, uh. There are nuances:
For example, my hybrid, consumes about 5.6 on the urban cycle, and 1 refueling is enough for about 1000 km.
Many electric cars nowadays can go 300-400 km, and recharge while you drink coffee. That said:
- the price will be an order of magnitude cheaper than gasoline/diesel
- the range of electric cars is growing every year.
Plus there are a lot of new technologies, almost brought to industrial production, which will bring electric cars of the middle class to the range of the same 1000 km, and it will happen in the next 3-5 years.

Low range is the most annoying thing about EVs. And no it can't recharge while you're drinking coffee. Fast charging takes about 30-40 minutes on most EVs. If you drive a lot on a highway you lose too much time (and also it's not particularly good for the battery). The only viable solution would be swappable battery packs like you could leave your battery at the charging station and plug another one instead but that would also require complete redesign of the EVs to make batteries swappable etc.

Meanwhile in WTA Zhengzhou, German veteran Laura Siegemund unexpectedly defeated Liudmila Samsonova of Russia in three sets: 3:6, 6:2, 6:1!
She played quite well by beating Samsonova which of course not many people predicted she would be able to win but unfortunately right now she is playing against Paolini in the quarterfinals and in the first set she wasn't able to win a single game, sometimes the second set can change but Paolini managed to get rid of Garcia has opportunity to go to the semifinals against Kalinina or the host players, while Kasatkina does not need to play in the quarterfinals to get to the semifinals after Ons Jabeur withdrew due to injury.

Dimitrov managed to take the first set via a tiebreak, this would probably have been a longer match if Jarry had managed to get the second set so that the match was decided via a deciding set, but it looks like Dimitrov is in very good shape after successfully defeating title favorite Alcaraz, so he has a better chance of getting to the semifinals.
