461  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 05, 2014, 01:29:58 AM
Does P2pool support multiple pools? Can run litecoin and bitcoin on the same server do or I need to run two separate P2Pool servers?

462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MPOS setup on: February 05, 2014, 01:27:47 AM
That's too bad. I guess I will have to stick to P2Pool as there doesn't seem to be reason to switch to MPOS.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / MPOS setup on: February 04, 2014, 08:45:59 PM
I have reviewed the quick setup notes, I am just wondering how you add more than one coin to MPOS, such as litecoin, doge coin, bitcoin, etc., that's where I am a bit confused!?

Thanks,

I am finding interesting with the newest update to P2Pool 3.4.14 that my miners aren't finding anything but my friend who is using a Avy 107GH/s is finding blocking and is getting paid more than what my 186GH/s miners are getting when they do eventually find stuff. Previous before the patch the 107GH/s miner was finding nothing while my rigs were finding the blocks.

Just in case no one has been watching, there is a new update to P2Pool. I am not sure what the fixes do as the op doesn't seem to care to let everyone know what he's fixing...for we know he could be working for the NSA and putting back doors into his code! (kidding) Cheesy

You can track new commits/updates on GitHub.
https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/commits/master

Updates actually come fairly often to the "dirty" codebase, but you can stick with the Tags(the whole version numbers) for the "stable" releases.

Where is the stable release kept?

As I mentioned above... The Tags: https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/releases

You should surf around the Github repository to get a feel of how github projects have their stuff stored... Releases/tags, issues lists, bug fixes and experimentation in the Master branch and the various README files, etc.  This is all pretty standard github stuff and can come in handy not just for P2pool updates, but for seeing the behind the scenes stuff with BFGMiner, CGMiner, CPUMiner, Bitcoind, etc.

Oh there isn't an actual stable release vs a dirty release of P2Pool then.

The -fee doesn't seem to be working...since I have added it -fee 50 my server has taken home most of the payout. The recent pay looks like this; server = 0.03817988, my wallet = 0.00722744. It looks like that for all the other payouts too. Looks like something is broken in the code. Sad

Must just be variance. How many shares have you found? Remember, the pool doesn't receive 50% of the payout, it receives randomly over time 50% of the shares. So the number of the shares the fee has in the sharechain can vary quite a bit. There is a literal random() call with the fee % to see who owns each share your node finds.

Hard cording in a fee amount to the sharechain like how donations work would be a really nice feature and easy to add. But not backwards compatible, so it'd have to be one of those things that only kick in once 95% of the network has upgraded. Then the variance is gone for both operator and miner in regards to node fee.

Does this also mean that a miner would received 100% of the payout and the pool would receive 0%? Because that's what also just happen. My miners are still doing the 50% while the second miner which was just paid out (after I updated the server) got 100% of the payout.

469  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 03, 2014, 09:11:50 AM
anyone can supply me with a picture of the controller board with cables properly plugged in?

I reassembled the avalon after a thorough cleaning and i forgot which port is meant for the temperature sensor.

now it;s making the fans run excessively fast even though I set the temperature cutoff at 52C (it's running at 49C) and 40-100 percent fan speed, it's running at 60% fan speed

Avalon's need to be kept cool at all times, if you have cold room in your house you should put them there. As they get hotter the fans need to kick up to cool them down or you risk blowing the circuits up. Realistically they belong in a co-location full-time.

Does anyone know how to get the following data from this P2Pool site onto another site like my own?

I am interested in the "blocks found today" and "Local user summary" data at the bottom of the page.
http://sleipnir.syari.net/pool/

Here's what I use:

Is the P2Pool on GMT time? I am just noticing now my hashing time is 5 hours ahead of my local time.

Have a look at my frontend - p2pool.smoothrunnings.ca:9332 - I like it much better than the Exteneded Front End.

Wow, that one is actually quite nice.  I am just running the Extended Front end by blixnood: https://github.com/blixnood/p2pool

Can I see it running?

Thanks

Would be nice if the P2pool server could update itself or at least tell the operator that there is an update available so he or she can decide when to take server offline and patch it. Smiley

Does someone know how the fee system should work on p2pool?

I'm running a p2pool node which has some active miners on it.
I've setup a fee using "--address xxxxxxxxxx --fee 1"

The client is running without wallet, so I set an adrress from another wallet.
This address shows up when I start p2pool, so that looks fine.

Should you get a 1% fee everytime the miners are paid? I haven't received any fee yet, while the active miners have received their share payments.
Or will this fee be paid on a daily base? I got the feeling something is setup wrong.
Using p2pool 13.4-14-g7aa75ce-dirty

No the fee is not based on the bitcoin payout, it's based on the shares.

Is there anyway to tell if your P2pool actually hit a block?  Will the log file show anything like this if a local miner found one?

Are you using the default front end or one of the other front ends like extended or one I am using (can't remember the name), the extend front end has a list of last blocks, that list shows you the blocks you are working on. If no blocks appear then you are not working on any.

This front end is quite nice. https://github.com/hardcpp/P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd

This is the one P2Pool.org used.

I like it, it is very clean.  Smiley

I will have to wait until I move to a new place to start my own P2Pool again. Need to get lots of Enterprise hardware.  Smiley

Found the link to it again:

So, ~3TH for 10,000$ in 'Q1/Q2' is currently up against ~2TH for $6,000 in may (And a sold out batch of 2TH for $6,000 in april), is this correct?

Plus these other ones like bitmain/antminer/etc

Sounds like you forgot to read the fine print on the Neptune rig info!!

Knc - (we reserve the right to increase this as we get closer to shipment)

We are not closer to the shipment yet so your comparison between 3TH/s and 2TH/s isn't valid, PERIOD!

Cheesy

It's still a worthy comparison. KNC already said Q1 shipment wasn't going to happen, so it'll be Q2. Most households won't support the machine running more than 3TH, so if you go by that metric then the Neptune is about $1100 more than the CT model (3k/th).

While the Neptune should likely do 5TH, it'll be only in homes with upgraded power panels or commercial spaces.

A better comparison would be who's shipping what right now without preorders, and sine December, Chinese manufacturers have been shipping tons of hashpower out. KNC hasn't. So, KNC 0, Others Many.

Show me where it says they will be shipping the Neptune in "Q1", I have only seen Q1/Q2 and it go to Q2. So having it say  Q1/Q2 doesn't mean it will actually ship in Q1 it means it MAY ship in Q1. So your argument isn't valid.

Right, no i know that.  they also say you can refund (at least the early batches) up to the day of shipping i think it was.

but just because they said they reserve the right to give you more hash power, doesn't mean they will, or perhaps, even can. (either silicoln limits, pcb limits, not enough chips/wafers, or whatever)

I'm still holding, don't get me wrong, but I would like to know what the situation is, and it seems mums been the word from KnC.  Not that i blame them, they and CT have the best technical chops and there's a lot to do.

We still have a lot time until Q2, I would only start to worry if by the end of Q1 nothing comes out of KnC about the batch 2 miners. Bugging them now about the Neptune's is premature as they likely don't know the correct answer just yet so it's better for them not to say anything. Cheesy

I'm losing hope here... we lost 100 users which certainly isn't helping variance.
Perhaps it's the patronizing "tone" some of the users here feel the need to use when others ask questions. Some even call themselves "old timers" with 8 months experience. I know it's made me look elsewhere...

The lack of finding work, aka blocks, isn't related to just pool but everyone feels it. Before building and using my own P2Pool server I was using Bitminter who was going through weeks of not finding any work and their overall pool numbers started to dwindle. Now they are back to almost 380TH/s, what we are seeing will pass and another pool will be affected then everyone on that pool or almost everyone will jump ship.
