461  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 25, 2013, 03:38:22 PM
hi coblee, what country are you sending from pse & if it's the states would you be prepared to hold the paid for roll until I visit later this year, if I happened to bid & win any of your auctions, thanks.

This will be shipped from California. I can definitely hold it. I will be at the Bitcoin conference if you would like to trade in person. But I would ask for a 10% deposit if that's the case.
462  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 25, 2013, 04:32:30 AM
Before the auction is over, I will go to my safe, take these coins out, and take some pictures.

Good job. You win. Post a btc address.

Nope. Hint: it's related to bitcoins.
465  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 25, 2013, 02:20:49 AM
CONTEST! Whoever first figures out what's below the 8 tubes (in the picture) wins 0.1 btc.
466  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 25, 2013, 02:18:17 AM
So I'm trying to see if auctioning them would work well. Not sure if I will regret this as I've seen them go for >$2000 each on ebay:

Do your coins have the misprint?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
All series 1 coins have the misprint (casacius) and the firstbits printed on the hologram.
Series 2 coins do not have the misprint and have the firstbits showing through the window in the hologram.

This auction is for one of the series 1 tubes in the top half of the image.
So it will have the misprint.

Depending on how well this auction goes, I might create another auction for a series 2 tube or another series 1 tube.

Here's a picture of my coins:

I know it doesn't show much. Sorry. Sad
468  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 24, 2013, 11:55:57 PM
I confirm I sold coblee physical bitcoins at the approximate time he says I did, and believe that he is likely able to deliver the items he is selling.

Thanks Mike
469  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 24, 2013, 09:01:49 PM
What is the time zone of this auction?

Are you willing to reveal the addresses?

45 BTC

Oops sorry, timezone is GMT.
The address for the 30 coins? They are stored in the tube in my safe right now, so I'd rather not take it out right now and then type them in. But I will try to get Mike to confirm that he sold them to me.

Bid increment is still 1 BTC.
470  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - 10 rolls of new 1BTC Casascius Coins on: April 24, 2013, 03:48:34 PM
In case anyone is interested, I have a batch of series 1 coins for auction here:

471  Economy / Auctions / AUCTION - 30x 1BTC (Series1) Casascius coin on: April 24, 2013, 08:42:13 AM
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I bought a bunch of Series 1 & 2 casascius coins from Mike Caldwell more than a year ago. And I'm interested in selling some of them for bitcoins.
I thought about selling them one at a time on ebay, but that seems like a lot of work. Plus I would have to give a huge cut to ebay and paypal.
So I'm trying to see if auctioning them would work well. Not sure if I will regret this as I've seen them go for >$2000 each on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Casascius-Bitcoin-Minted-in-Sept-2011-Version-1-With-Error-/181115649401?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item2a2b557d79
If you win this auction, maybe you can turn around and sell them on ebay to make a profit.

This auction is for a tube of 30 series 1BTC casascius coins. They will come in a square coin tube.
I found that the half dollar coin tube fits 30 of these coins really well: http://www.amazon.com/Square-Half-Dollar-Coin-Tubes/dp/B004DB1K2E
I bought these from Mike and put them straight into the coin tube and kept it in my safe.
So the condition of the coins should be mint, but I have not opened the tube so I don't know if the coins have tarnished at all.

The starting price of the auction will be 30 BTC. Please bid in increments of at least 1 BTC.

The auction will end on May 1st 12:00 AM (right when April becomes May). Each valid bid will delay the end time by another hour.

When the auction is over, I will PM the winner an address (or post here publicly if that's what the winner prefers) and I expect payment promptly (2 days).
I will offer to the next highest bidder in case of non-payment. The tube of 30 coins will be shipped and insured (free of charge of course) to the winner within 3 business days.

I can have Mike Caldwell verify that he did indeed sell me a bunch of coins last year. My bitcoin-otc rating: http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=coblee
If you know me, you know that my reputation is on the line. If you really want escrow, I might consider it, but the buyer would need to pay for all the fees.

472  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: First ever graded Casascius coins? on: April 24, 2013, 05:56:15 AM
Nice. How much did it cost to grade one? I wonder if I can get PCGS or NGC to grade a casascius coin. Smiley
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoiners: Idea to make Litecoin importance skyrocket in Bitcoin ecosystem on: April 15, 2013, 01:34:35 AM
Casascius, I think this is a very interesting idea. I've always thought of Litecoin as a complimentary coin to Bitcoin and I am definitely interested in making a change to Litecoin that is beneficial to Bitcoin.

There are a few things that need to be worked out though.

1) Does this means that each Litecoin client/miner has to be both on the Bitcoin network and the Litecoin network in order for it to verify blocks or create blocks with the latest bitcoin block hash? Or maybe only the miners have to be on the Bitcoin block chain?

2) How do we handle forks? What if the Litecoin blocks have a eventually losing fork in the block chain? How do we then switch to the winning chain?

474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $10,000 Bet that Bitcoins will outperform Gold, Silver by 100X !!! on: April 09, 2013, 10:27:03 PM
If bitcoin goes to $282 and the S&P 500 stays the same, bitcoin will have out-performed the S&P 500 by 100x.

I think Roger will make it.

But for Roger to win Bitcoin also needs to outperform the US dollar by 100x.

Since the US dollar is always worth 1 US dollar, that means Bitcoin needs to go to 100 times its price at the start of the bet.  That was $9.26, so for Roger to win BTC needs to go to $926.

That's wrong. USD's performance measure against itself is 0% gain. 100 times 0% is still 0%. So as long as bitcoin price goes up, it outperforms USD by greater than 100x.
475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: April 09, 2013, 05:24:04 PM
I see a LOT of people complaining about fees in Litecoin-Qt.

These are early adopters on newbie forums.  I understand when these were worth a few cents the fees prevented the dusting attacks - job accomplished.

Now the value of the LTC has grown to the point that sending 1 LTC makes sense, often we only want to spend $5 or so.

So if there is a 40% or 20% fee on 1 LTC in Litecoin-Qt we just drove away a new adopter and advocate for the currency, it seems worse than a scandalous bank.

PLEASE - this is a small change but REDUCE THIS FEE in light of the value change of one LTC.

Fees will be reduced with the next release. Thanks.
476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Physical Litecoins by CryptoVest (Coming soon!!) on: April 08, 2013, 04:49:42 AM
The design looks good! I think you just need to make a 1 LTC coin and a 10 LTC silver coin. Count me in for some!
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: April 02, 2013, 11:42:12 PM
Litecoin will be updated to 0.8.1 soon. Like wtogami said, I had originally planned to stay 1 major version behind Bitcoin so that we don't get bit by a bad release. But as it turned out, the 0.8 hard fork just made it clear that there was an issue with old releases that could cause a hard fork even without 0.8. So wtogami and pooler will be helping me with rebasing the Litecoin code to 0.8.1. I do want to wait til May 15 to make sure that Bitcoin is able to handle the potential hard fork. Since the Litecoin community is much smaller, we should have even less of a problem. But it's better to be safe.

I take it all back. Go Litecoin! Viva la Bitcoin! Drive on Namecoin! There is more than enough room for all of these currencies and more to go to the moon!

Increased hash rate == increased network security.

Also, litecoin is certainly not at all immune to ASIC.

I don't agree that "Increased hash rate == increased network security". When ASIC bitcoin mining is widely available, if you have the same number of people mining, the network won't be more secure just because the hashrate is higher. It's all about how much $ it takes for an attacker to come up with enough hashrate to 51% the network. ASICs might eventually increase the network hashrate 50x but that does not mean the network is 50x more secure if it costs the same amount of money for someone to successfully attack the network.

Take for example, if someone found a way to optimize the miner software to be 10x better hashrate and it works on CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and ASICs. Then all of the sudden, the next day EVERYONE uses the new miner software and the network hashrate jumps from 50 thahs/s to 500 thash/s. Is the network now ten times more secure?
If that strawman is the best example you can come up with to play devil's advocate, then no. But do you really think that a network composed of <1% of the global GPUs is invulnerable to a virus attack? Bitcoin was nearly attacked this way, but the perps instead decided to profit. Maybe LTC will not be so lucky.

Where did I say Litecoin is invulnerable to attacks? If huge botnet that uses CPU and GPU can successfully attack Litecoin. But botnet operators likely just want to make money, so as like Bitcoin, they will just add to the hashrate and help secure Litecoin.
That may be true. All I'm saying is that getting a lot of CPUs and GPUs together to attack LTCs 4.7 GH/s is going to be easier than going up against BTCs 54 TH/s

Don't forget that mining litecoin with GPUs is about 1000x different in speed. So 4.7 ghash/s network hashrate of Litecoin is about equivalent to 4.7 thash/s network hashrate of Bitcoin. It's still much smaller, but not as small as the numbers make it seem like.
