OK, I'm in.  Don't really know why I waited.  I think the giant "ALPHA" scared me away until now.

464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Local News Wants to Interview Me About Bitcoins on: August 01, 2011, 09:41:12 PM
"(don't say mtgox)"  ??

Who's better?  They all have issues.

Anyway, good for you boosting BTC locally.  Cheesy  And the local news is always going to hunt down some tidbit like the local prostitute, and edit what you say to make the point THEY want to make.  Probably for the best you did not go on camera.
465  Economy / Gambling / Re: Anyone use StrikeSapphire from within the US? on: August 01, 2011, 09:35:58 PM
I wanted to join Sapphire, but I am in the USA, and I heeded the site's request to not try to fool them into thinking I was "Canadian"  Grin

So I joined http://btcsportsbetting.com/ instead.  They take US customers, no problem.  And the betting is all done in bitcoin (actually dBTC, 1/10 of a bitcoin)  without converting to US Dollars, like Sapphire does.  I much prefer to just bet in bitcoin.

I've been doing decent at Blackjack over there.  Grin
466  Economy / Gambling / Re: King of the Mount Automated Bitcoin 1.5x (Rounds Start Every Saturday Night) on: August 01, 2011, 03:37:48 AM
Oh what the hell?! Mybitcoin.com, my main processor for the game, has been down since yesterday it looks like.

Does anyone have any news on what happened?!

There are several threads in the "main" area, but it's gone, no one knows why, the rest is speculation.

I hope you didn't lose too many BTC, man.  I like your game, I hope you can find a way to keep it going.
467  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [260 GH/s SMPPS, Regs open!] Ars Technica community mining pool! on: August 01, 2011, 03:09:51 AM
*Edit* people were asking who found it, nickname "NetTecture" found the missing block.

Seriously?

I FOUND A DAMN BLOCK?

Can not believe it Wink And I am not even consistently mining - not until sunday I can turn the miners on full time, and not until 2 weeks I can expand to 30 giga Wink

gratz dude!

Could ya find another one?  It's been 7.5 mill shares.  Sad

Good thing we have a big buffer.
468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGox vs Tradehill Volume on: August 01, 2011, 01:46:11 AM
The "day" is only 1:45 old, but Camp BX actually has the most volume at the moment.  Grin
469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are now Mobile and EASY - QR/Wallet/Android/iOS - MtGox Mobile on: August 01, 2011, 01:36:02 AM
Sorry for the extended delay on the Cydia/iOS repository.  This will be taken care of first thing next week.   Grin

Looking forward to it.  I jailbroke last night in anticipation Smiley

471  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Self contained, cross platform USB stick client & wallet on: August 01, 2011, 01:21:33 AM
LinuxCoin.

I do run Linuxcoin from USB for my mining rig.

But I'd like to run the client in the OS that is already running, not re-boot into linux.  Especially since Macs can't boot a non-Mac OS from USB.  Well, not easily.

I already have my secure bank on a bootable Ubuntu live CD. With several backups, of course.

I'm still looking into various "more secure" alternatives to running the client directly.  Looking into VirtualBox right now.

Of course, version 0.4 could come out with an encrypted wallet.dat and save the day, but we don't know when that might be.

I don't really have enough BTC to matter, and half of what I DO have is in MtGox, so this is really more for my own curiosity than anything else.
472  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Self contained, cross platform USB stick client & wallet on: August 01, 2011, 01:07:52 AM
My Linux box at work can't run the bitcoin client, the OS is too old.  And I still don't have access to a Windows box.

However, there is this thread: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=4868.msg71216#msg71216  that I found.  He's on windows and using the same approach as me.

So it should work.
473  Economy / Gambling / Re: [WEEKEND ROUND 12 BTC JACKPOT] BitCat.ch - automated bitcoin game. on: August 01, 2011, 01:03:14 AM
Right on, thanks geek. What a bummer though. I wanted to play this or kamakikaze today....*sigh*

I know.  The mybitcoin.com mess wrecked several games.  Sad

I was getting about .5 BTC a week in referral fees from Bitcoin Kamikaze.  Hopefully he'll fix it soon.
474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Sportsbook, Racebook and Casino - www.btcsportsbetting.com on: August 01, 2011, 12:28:02 AM
I love how BTCBook.com Beta calls hi a shill, when he's in here badmouthing and accusing a site that is in competition with his.

Judging from that behavior alone, I'll never use his site.

The site THIS thread is about, however, is a great site.  I've had nothing but fun and good customer service from them.
475  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: 1.4x Pyramid Game - MultiplyMyBTC.com - (Round 3) on: July 31, 2011, 11:52:21 PM
I think, in all multiply / ponzi games, the majority of people enter at the very beginning.

If you want more people to join, you need to get their entries up on the site ASAP, and pay them out right away, especially in the beginning.  The first 2 hours are critical.

Take, bitcat.ch, for example.  He gets a lot of people to re-enter because of the reasons I started above.  I know he's automated, and you do it by hand, but I think for those first few hours you need to be on top of it more.

I like the 1.4x you do (bitcat.ch's 1.2 is too low, in my opinion), and the minimum of .25 is good.  Maybe make the max 1.0.  Then some people would enter twice at 1 instead of once at 2.

Also, I would prefer you pay out exactly 1.4x.  So for a bet of 1, pay me back 1.4.  Take the fees / jackpot out of the money that goes in the pot.  That makes more sense to me, and makes the numbers more even.

So if I pay 1 BTC, you take 0.02 BTC for the jackpot, and 0.02 BTC for the game fee.  Put 0.96 in the pot, and mark my "Gets back" at 1.4.  Does that make sense?

You run a good game.  With a few tweaks, it could be a great game.

Didn't some entires come in?  Why did 1qAtywd9GPqc4rHEpi3NU6ZhsdpuHmMhd switch from paid to not paid?

you didn't type anything ?
Sorry connection is bad I am on my ipod I said when I get back to my pc I will sort things out

ok, thanks.
Fixed and thanks to you realizing that I got to payout someone else!

You da MAN!  I like that you added the "Available For Payout:". also.

I like this because:  Say I am next to get paid, but the round is ending in a few hours.  I can recoup part of my bet by betting again, enough to trigger a payout to myself.  The "Available For Payout:" helps me decide if it's worth it to do this, and how much to send.

Plus, I'm all for more transparency.

Thanks again, TheBitMan.
477  Economy / Gambling / Re: [WEEKEND ROUND 12 BTC JACKPOT] BitCat.ch - automated bitcoin game. on: July 31, 2011, 11:26:43 PM
Did round 5 start? When I click the link all I see is the stats for round 4. I don't see anything referring to round 5 starting other then the posts in this thread.

I believe it was round 6 that just ended.  He's been starting a 48 hour round on the weekends.

"Round 4" doesn't ever end until it goes 24 hours with no deposits.

Check back on Thursday, if he follows the same pattern, there will be a notice about round 7.
478  Economy / Gambling / Re: [WEEKEND ROUND 12 BTC JACKPOT] BitCat.ch - automated bitcoin game. on: July 31, 2011, 09:00:55 PM
Yep, PM checked.
And we have a winner of the round #6 - http://blockexplorer.com/address/1LmzPdipDAdrZHQZKvK8dbjxGdDcvnsLLz congratulations  Smiley

How much did they put in?  I was busy away from the comp so I didn't get to bid, or watch the final.
