if you can remove that fan often there is a sticker on the motor hub, remove the sticker and you should see the bearing. sometimes under a rubber plug, sometimes not. add a drop of light oil (like sewing machine oil or 3-in-1 oil) to it. that can add a few months but likely youll have to redo it every month or two.

Sintetic engine oil will do a much better thing. I use Castrol engine oil and lasts much longer.

interesting. you use the lightest weight oil you can get? at least very light oil was what was recommended back in the day, like 20-30 years ago when i was using and rebuilding very small fans on electronics and early computers. and engine oil then was typically 30 weight or more. thick oil would sometimes prevent the fan from starting and sometimes they would not attain the correct rpm as these were pretty small low power fans back then though.. now engine oil is much lighter and fan bearing are probably much different in lubrication requirements, or at least the bearing themselves are larger.

I think it has to do with the level of tolerance things are designed to now;  similar to the aspect of newer engines using specific viscosities because of tighter bearing tolerances

Re the onda mobos, they are by far the most common failure point of my farm. I use the 8 slot version, with 4 extra pcie 1x slots unused.

Running 51 rigs, replaced 18 of them already. Not to mention 5 of the warrantied boards returned that's still not working. Unfortunately there's no major manufacturer making such mobos, closest is biostar but they aren't made to power 1080ti as power comes from the board.

i have that mobo, the onda D8P i think. 8 x16 slots, and 4 x1 towards the back of the board. and takes like 3 molex and 3 sata power inputs along the back?

run 7 vgas (mixed assortment from 1080tis to a 460) plus nest4x with 3 acorns. win10 1709. 8 gigs ram, g4400. 256 gb ssd in that weird ssd slot forgot the name of the format (not m2 though.. maybe msata?). had no problems at all.

my biggest gripe is i cant find any bios updates anywhere but it hasnt seemed to need them tbh.

only downside to it, as with most mining mobos, is only one pcie lane to all slots but the 1st, which is 8 pcie lanes. no prob for traditional mining but not sure how acorn gpu accelerators will like those x1 lanes.

Same, I havent put more than 7 cards in active use at any time yet on it.   I believe it could handle it;  but I wouldn't want to use cards that pull excessive power form the 16x slots with this board;  Just knowing I have one molex or SATA feeding 2 slots each.  The 3 of the 1x slots share 1 power connector if im not mistaken, while the other shares with the last PCIE 16x slot using the furthest SATA power connection.

for me this board was about price (back when I bought), the technology it used (not all PCIE power plugs, 3.25x slot spacing, and the fact it has 16x slots instead of others.    My only gripe with the D8P is it's lack of being able to be mounted in a 4U space with the widest plane across the 4U slot, and not 90* rotated where it would take massive depth in a 4U rack; also making the case cross-flow air, instead of typical ventilation with a rack which typically moves air from front to back, not side to side as this board would need to be mounted.

anyone else notice the sudden diff jump in XMR....    Might be a hint....  Price surely isn't reflecting it;  so it must be a new machine at play.    I highly doubt that much gear was turned on all at once based on any other reasoning....
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: January 08, 2019, 09:48:05 PM
I posted this in another thread but I might just as well post it in here too:

I was wondering what the best (i.e. cheapest) case would be for an Onda D1800 with 6 GPUs on it... It would need to fit the PSU as well I reckon. Don't want to splash out too much cash, but I'm thinking of moving this open-air rig to another place so I need it properly secured. I'm guessing some type of 4U case should work...?
best bet is check aliexpress, and ebay.... you should be able to search of "onda 1800 case" and find results.

Or;  See if spotwood's open air frame would be in the price range and liking to you.   I personally bought his frame for my D8P and it was one of the best decisions i've made for that machine.
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BUBBLE || alpha software in testing demo up big news on: January 08, 2019, 09:39:41 PM
Like always... No one gets it... Sometimes I wonder why I even try to  communicate with normals

It all boils down to most people are impatient;  only wanting to buy coins to make a quick buck;  not for what they truly support.

This is why I have never bought and traded ETH;  I have never believed in that system because of its inherent security flaws and its controlled nature.

I have actually used some of this recent instability in the exchange to gather up some more coins....  It reached the point where it was a safer bet for more in the end to buy and sell a little on the exchange;  than it was to wait for the staking profit.

Keep at your pace Mick;  Others here can simple scroll back through this entire thread and see the continual progress made in the same manner it has been done before.  Rome wasn't built overnight;  especially not by one person.

In the discord;  I posted a reply to the compile error someone was having with the masternodes/siraj #support chatroom.    It seems like a simple error, and i'm not sure if you have corrected it in your official source yet; so I thought I would mention it to you here.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BUBBLE || HOLY $H+T! ! ! P2p exchange going well, harder than I thought. on: December 27, 2018, 06:24:59 PM
Another fucking scam!  Angry

what was the scam?  So far, i have seen none.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: December 19, 2018, 11:30:19 AM
Holy fark my account was compromised earlier today and the scammer posted some fake ICO announcements as me... Fortunately the noob forgot to change the password so I was able to change it and remove all the fake posts.

So just another reminder to be very careful out there, change your password to something very complex. It's the second time I was hacked on these forums. And my passwords were never as easy as 123456!...

 Angry Angry Angry

Are you using Teamviewer on your PC?

Because since the hacker never changed your password, I am assuming its because he didnt have your password only had direct access to your PC where you were already logged in.

With TV you need to make sure you only accept LAN connections and disable any incoming connections to your main PC. You should also do this with your router to block the ports.
Hmmm now that's some pretty scary shizzle. I betcha it's that one time I stupidly ran that NanoX "miner" from one rig. I will wipe that rig clean no matter what.

I do need to access my rigs remotely every now and then though with TV... Just beefed up my password and enabled 2FA. Also disabled any access to my main PC. That should help.

I only add my miners to TV;  I don't sign them in ever.

Hopefully it was just this fluke.   I myself am pretty up tight about what i run on m y PC's i mainly use.  That's why I have a few "sandbox" laptops and OS installs.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1070 dual the fan is not running properly? on: December 18, 2018, 03:53:22 AM
Anyway knows how to fix fan of gtx 1070 the fan looks spinning wiggle or shaking I have 1 GPU running with a higher temp because of this issue and even you set the Afterburner to low temp it still running at the higher temp.

I hope someone knows how to fix this the fan looks fine when I tried to spin it and I tried to reattach the fan still the same result.

It would help if you could state exactly which brand of GPU you are using?

I am just going to assume you got the Gigabyte Windforce model which has very horrible fans.

If the fan is wiggling it means the bearing is out. You can either send it in for warranty, buy a replacement fan on eBay or just fix the bearing issue yourself.

If you want to fix it, you need to pull the fan blade and lubricate the bearings inside and you should be good for the next 6 months or so. Try not to damage the fan when doing this.
The model is Palit GTX 1070 dual 8gb.

That's my plan to send it back because its still under warranty but the problem is the one fan doesn't have this

I couldn't find this sticker so I decided to find another way to fix the unstable fan spinning it sometimes slow and even I set the afterburner to high RPM the fan doesn't increase speed and the temp increases even I set it to limited temp.

If I replacing it with new fan from ebay the worst thing is that I'll pay double from customs to release the product.

How about repairing the fan?

if you can warranty it, i would warranty it.

if you want to replace the fan;  you must disassemble so you can see the back side of the fan motor, and it will have a part number you can search for to get a replacement.
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I NEED HELP RX580 XFX on: December 18, 2018, 03:12:43 AM
I had nothing but issues with XFX cards back in the 290 days....   they failed left and right.  Only good thing was the warranty;  if you registered them, they would replace them no problem for free.  but they failed very often.    100% a XFX thing.

your problem may be driver (windows likes to change its driver for you sometimes)... so it may need further looking into.   Run typical synthetic benchmarks on it and see if it fails or gets poor results those tests in a stock config to narrow down your problem.
470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: broken GTX1080 fouders edition, parting out possible? on: December 18, 2018, 03:01:39 AM
how much for one of the broken units as a whole?   I have the knowledge to attempt a repair.

I also have a FE style 1080 in my main computer;  to use as a reference.

Can you pls compile it to "tar.gz" and upload? Thx a lot. I would try using it in HiveOS.

I suggest you follow the build instructions for linux;  I am only releasing binaries for windows.

Its much more straightforward to compile on linux, and all you need to do is edit donate-level.cpp for the donate percentage before compiling.

I tried, but it's really out of my league... Cry So if you or anybody here gets around compiling it for linux, I think you could help a lot of folks like me... that are not on the level of self-compiling stuff and are running HiveOS, SimpleMiningOS or just their own Linux implementation. Thx

It's all outlined pretty well;  I am not sure what linux HiveOS is based off of, so you could try the ubuntu Tinycore method(s);  they install extras/compilers that may or may not be released with your os....  When you get errors;  search the strings returned from the errors;  find out whats missing; install/add, try again.

Hi,

We have now opened registrations for our hash renting service called HashTap™ (https://www.hashtap.ca/) This service is aimed to be a spec miners paradise allowing you to rent hash on 40+ algorithms from the miners of zpool.ca.  Keep in mind, you can not rent hash from HashTap™ and point it at zpool.ca.  We're in the early stages so please, if you find any issues use the HashTap™ support channel once it's opened up.

Cheers
This is awesome and should bring more miners to the pool I no you have a profit section and I like the new look but I find it harder to figure out which algo is paying the best is there anyway you could add a spot or page that says the most profitable algo for amd and nvidia doesn't have to be a big list just the top 1 or 2 algos this way we dont have to go through all the algos with a calculator

the problem is:   The profitability factor depends on what make/model of GPU and in what condition/config on your machine....   so it could vary from person to person based on just these caveats.

I haven't had time to compile 2.7

Interesting they say its faster but idk

Yes 2.7 faster then xmrig and srb

FYI;  2.7.1 compiled and uploaded.

See first page.

I need a bet file for a zeus thunder 32 M/hs miner  https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/iq0AAOSwtM1bpr2z/s-l500.jpg

I have those exact miners collecting dust in my garage.  I’d be happy to get you an image off the raspi if you can’t find online.  Let me know I’ll see what I can do.  Have to be tomorrow or Monday tho. Busy as heck today.

BR

Edit just came to me. Download a copy of minera. Burn it to a sd card and load into raspi. Within that program you cat set the variable to mine.  Some like —zues. I can’t recall off hand. It’s been a few years. If I recall cgminer and bfgminer both support those boards

100% user minera.

get it on a raspberry pi, and it does all the hard stuff... basic configs necessary.... and the auto-restart and simplicity features are hands down the reason i used minera.

Did my 222 mile round trip  dinner.

Ate a lot of food

Just woke up half asleep  was a fun trip.

Left at 8:45am and got home at 11:55pm.

I did the family thing at the parents.   This year was special;  my brother in law had his parents over here visiting from India for Diwali and Thanksgiving.

Very awesome.

I compiled 2.6 on my own. Its giving me errors on my 580.

I am using blockchain drivers (17.xx) as adrenaline drivers (18.xx) was causing instabilities.

Cheesy

2.6.0 compiled and released.

Let me know if there are any issues.

Same as before, compiled under Cuda 10, i suggest the developer's cuda libraries for older devices as noted in my other posts in this thread.

Enjoy.

remember the dip to 200 happened twice before shooting well over 1K.

The whales are lining their pockets.   It's just up to us peons to keep from selling off and holding on.  Remember;  just in a little over a month:  the tax year ends.   I am willing to bet this selloff has something to do with it;  wither that or the xmas season.

Now that I am doing better day by day, I am trying to flip my mindset on not spending or selling any crypto;  do the long term hold.

I have actually relied on my crypto earnings for the last few years.  It literally kept me from being homeless and hungry for a legitimate year straight.
