Its always risky jumping in and taking the plunge. I was scared to buy more GPUs back in Spring of 2016 because I was worried about the upcoming ETH POS transistion, the skyrocketing difficulty and the DAO hack which caused price to crash.

However in the end it was a great time to invest in the newer RX GPUs which paid for themselves over and over again.

Last Black Friday (Nov 2017) when the ETH price was low, there was a few GPUs on newegg which were below MSRP, and I almost ordered a few RX 570s but got scared and backed out last minute thinking Nov 2017 was the peak for ETH and ETH mining, and I've missed out on great profits.

The only time fairly recently that was a bad time to invest was basically Spring 2018 onwards, because in the Spring the GPUs were still overpriced and the profits quickly diminished month by month.

Remember this, you don't take the risk you don't reap the rewards.

I still have my power usage graph from 2013/2014 on my wall at home. This period reminds me exactly of back then. I agree with the years for recovery (at least for mining).

Is it on a grid-tie inverter? Solar powered rig would be ideal to have setup but would need to have mains to follow for dips and night use. I need to look at this as its best option long term.

Yep, grid tied with net metering.  With net metering, any excess that I produce goes back into the grid and I'm credited the kWh 1:1.  So in essence, the power company is buying back the kWh I produce at the exact same rate that I pay them.  In my area, the cost per kWh is constant 24 hours a day year around.

Holy fark my account was compromised earlier today and the scammer posted some fake ICO announcements as me... Fortunately the noob forgot to change the password so I was able to change it and remove all the fake posts.

So just another reminder to be very careful out there, change your password to something very complex. It's the second time I was hacked on these forums. And my passwords were never as easy as 123456!...

Cool. What country are you in? I am in the UK and they call it the feed in tariff (FIT) although I think they are scrapping it very soon so no option to sell back to them (boo hiss).

As long as you don't produce MORE power than you use over the course of a billing period.

That is actually ok too.  What happens in that case, is that I start building up a "bank" of kWh with the power company.  I had built up a bank of about 7,000 kWh before I started getting into mining.  That bank was wiped out within 2 billing periods, lol.

I'm in the US (Virginia specifically).

They no longer do net metering because the state no longer mandates it.  Fortunately I'm grandfathered in according to the POCO solar guy that I worked with when getting it all up and running initially.

Because since the hacker never changed your password, I am assuming its because he didnt have your password only had direct access to your PC where you were already logged in.

With TV you need to make sure you only accept LAN connections and disable any incoming connections to your main PC. You should also do this with your router to block the ports.

Hopefully it was just this fluke.   I myself am pretty up tight about what i run on m y PC's i mainly use.  That's why I have a few "sandbox" laptops and OS installs.

i am so paranoid i let NOTHING connect to my network from outside the lan. my network is just a black hole to the outside world. using a combination of hardware and software for security. with IoT things with little to no security out there its way to easy for people to get into your network nowadays. better to just lock it down to everything.

ive never need access to anything on my network when im not around so it works for me. better to have a miner down till i get back than have a hacker roaming around my network for days or whatever.

With TV there are different versions you can download. If you download the main TV host, then it automatically opens up your computer up for remote access, you need to disable it manually.

If you want to avoid these issues, just download the TV host for all your miner computers and on your main PC that you use for work you can just download the TV Portable or TV Quickview or whatever they call it these days. Basically it doesn't install anything and its a client so you can only connect externally never having someone connect to you.

I had 100 of them  for 3500  sold a lot of them for 100-120 each then others got them

Most likely I made about 1500 -2000 selling them on ebay.

I have old photos of many of them on my camera

I was able to push close to 110 sticks with 1 pc

The S1 being the first, I also don't think its the rarest, they seem to have made thousands of them.

I am thinking its most likely the Antminer S4, it was released at a bad time during a bear market and with its huge cost and old ASIC chip, it must of had the lowest amount of sales.

Probably 20 years from now if Crypto is still around those might fetch a pretty penny if kept completely stock with original PSU.

Wondering what the most rarest Antminer out there is? Can't be the S5.

I have a BFL 60 ASIC that didn't catch on fire - that's pretty rare because the other 4 units just like it all either blew caps, fried their boards or flat out burst into flames.

Maybe I can someday find Josh at throw it at his head.
