462  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC gone down today on: December 20, 2017, 01:50:30 AM
Lots of funds changing hands from BTC and alts towards BCH due to today's news, the latest push being from Coinbase listing BCH.

Not sure where it will head, but I think a lot of people who joined the world of crypto during this "bubble" may be looking towards BCH and thinking > $10k in a few months. Time will tell, however I'm skeptical as always...
Weak hands are panicking and getting into BCH. BCH almost touched $9500 on gdax. But after that there was a technical glitch. But a hard dumping is coming forward. Almost all the hodlers from last pump and dump are in profit and dump can happen anytime. Regarding bubble, BCH price is also not more than a bubble imho. What so great about it to have a value of $10k anyhow.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buy and Hold 100 Cryptocurrencies for 5 Years – Day 10 – Doubled on: December 19, 2017, 01:37:35 PM
After only 10 days since the experiment started the gain is now double.

https://buyandhold100crypto.com/day-10-doubled-the-initial-investment/

From 1k USD to over 2k USD  Grin
This is interesting!

Can you analyze the market movement or growth of top10, top20 and top50 according to your portfolio? That would be great. I would like to see the growth of one month of such portfolio. That would be interested to read. Your experiment was conducted during the bullish alt movement. The result would have been different if it was done in November or October. But still we can analyze a lot of things through this like money movement among altcoins etc.
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you believe that BCH is around the corner of another round of surging? on: December 19, 2017, 01:06:39 PM
Why so much fuss about BCH pump?

Aren't all the altcoins pumping hard ATM? We did see in last pump that how Roger Ver  and Jihan Wu manipulated the volume and price. What so extraordinary is there in BCH that it can be a replacement to BTC. Don't we have some better cryptocurrencies backed by some amazing projects? BCH might be better than BTC but there are better altcoins. All the large cap coins are pumping and so does BCH. I don't see any flippening.
465  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-18] Germany Joins French-led Moves to Regulate Bitcoin at G-20 Level on: December 19, 2017, 12:57:58 PM
The sooner they start with regulating this market, the sooner we'll be freed from this money laundering nonsense. Governments could have started with regulating this market years ago already.
But how they gonna achieve it?

Regulating cryptocurrencies is ultimately killing the anonymity as being done in India. Income Tax department asked for account holders on local exchanges and exchanges did provide that. Didn't we want a system free of government intrusion? If government regulates cryptos, then they want information about every hodler be it bitcoin or altcoins. I don't find this is the decentralized system.
466  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading techniques/advice from those who are make a living from it on: December 18, 2017, 03:52:50 PM
I went through all the posts here and none seem to give any answer.

Many are calling Youtube videos BS. But I tend to differ. There are some amazing channels with in depth knowledge of trend and chart analysis. Regarding TA, I have been trading for a time now and have experienced that TA works very well in short term like a period of some days. Always keep Bitcoin price movement in consideration when dealing with altcoins. If Bitcoin is highly bullish or bearish, TA generally fails. At that time altcoins are not the best investments. Always trade altcoins after proper chart analysis when Bitcoin is stable like it is now. Right now if you understand charts, you can make some amazing profits and I am having some great profits right now. Added to that always keep a watch on news and announcements of altcoins, they can bring massive pumps. You can try some twitter accounts or telegram group for that. Never follow P&D group. Try to understand whale's action which comes with experience.

Always know when to exit! Never be greedy to exit at ATH!
467  Economy / Economics / Re: A Putin Aide Is Eyeing Cryptocurrencies to Beat Sanctions, Report Says on: December 18, 2017, 09:48:26 AM
Quote
An adviser to President Vladimir Putin said cryptocurrencies may help Russian banks avoid international sanctions, the Rambler News Service reported Tuesday.

You think this isn't happening?

The main market for cryptocurrencies(not exclusively Bitcoin) is still dark market or in other words illegal transactions(nicely being called "sensitive" here). There wasn't a need for official announcement. It was quite obvious. But yeah, people used to think that only general public is involved in this dark market stuff. This article would help them to understand that government officials and bankers are the ones doing illegal transactions and money laundering whether through fiat or cryptos.

Quote
Fiat seems like the best option for anything illegal, it is strange to me how the media continues to claim bitcoin transactions are anonymous or untraceable when the open ledger design of its system suggests the opposite.

Get out of Bitcoin, it isn't really anonymous unless you use mixing services. Media only knows Bitcoin properly(that also I doubt) and is not much concerned about altcoins. We have some perfect privacy coins in the market like ZCASH, ZENCASH and you would have noticed how the demand of these coins rose tremendously and are still the best bet when it comes to investment in altcoins.

Why you think there is demand for privacy coins?

Because utility="Sensitive trade"
468  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-15] Ethereum Rises to All-Time High of $750: How Did it Happen? on: December 18, 2017, 09:38:12 AM
But July-September ETH investors might not be happy still. ETH was hovering over 0.09 BTC at that time and right now it is over 0.04 BTC which is still  more than 50% down from the price before the altcoin death rally(Oct-Nov). Many coins rose in USD value in Dec, but the medium of trade is usually BTC and most of the traders look for BTC value of the portfolio. Almost all the large cap coins are recovering this month. This means investors are looking for diversification. BTC is quite stable right now. Hence, altcoins will appreciate meanwhile.

472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: QTUM speculation? on: December 15, 2017, 07:10:38 PM
QTUM got deal with Gazprom (largest oil producer in the world) and Gazfond (largest pension fund, worth 200 billion $$$)
thats the reason for price increase
I didn't find this news anywhere. I thought the pump is because of the UBTC airdrop to QTUM hodlers on Jan 3rd and also all the large and medium-large cap coins are pumping, so now here comes the time for QTUM. But if this news is true, then this pump will go longer and can give huge profit in coming days unless Bitcoin goes bullish again which is most likely the outcome near 18th Dec when CME is launching futures.

However, according to charts, QTUM-BTC pair is trying to break downtrend line while hitting all time high in USD which indicates towards bullish movement.
473  Economy / Economics / Re: short term investment or long term invesetment on: December 15, 2017, 06:42:44 PM
What I have analysed so far (according to last 2 months cryptocurrency's movement) is that when Bitcoin is highly volatile or is continuously bullish, then one should prefer short term altcoin trading and only keep Bitcoin as long term investment. Bitcoin completely ruins altcoins when it remains bullish for longer period and that is the best entry point for investing in altcoins and best exit point is when Bitcoin is stable as happening now. If you are interested in long term hodling in altcoins, then only prefer large cap utility coins. Only such coins can survive in long term.
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 95% of Cryptocurrencies will Not Survive in 2018 on: December 15, 2017, 05:25:49 PM
I can't agree more. Even Bitcoin itself falls in the category of cryptocurrencies with no major use case. But whether 2018 will be the year where 95% cryptocurrencies will fail that I highly doubt.

Many medium to low cap currencies are failing everyday. Most ICOs are indeed meant for taking money from investors and running away. We have seen many such "successful" ICOs recently and that is way too common because of the absence of any regulation. Most of the cryptos will end in tears and the process is ongoing. But it isn't the year 2018. This will take place in long term. In coming 4-5 years, we might see that happening.
475  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you think its the right time to sell Bitcoin ? on: December 15, 2017, 05:19:43 PM
If you don't require your BTC amount for any specific or urgent purpose, refrain from selling.

Why?

In last 3 months of 2017, we saw the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and a constant bullish trend.

There is a hike in demand globally with CBOE/CME launching futures and banks integrating the Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in their system.

Some new major markets are growing like India and African countries bringing in more demand along with Korea and Japan.

A bill in Congress will get passed in Jan giving Bitcoin the currency status in USA bringing down the tax. Party has only started.

I see 2018 a bullish year for Bitcoin as well as cryptocurrencies.
476  Economy / Economics / Re: Question on Bitcoin fluctuation on: December 15, 2017, 02:50:32 PM
I'm still a little confused, partially because I am using Coinbase and these coins have been on there since the price I said above and its still saying that I have only $91 dollars worth of BTC.
I think this is what is confusing me, is this right I have no clue

Thanks for getting back Smiley
How many BTC you actually have?

I think you miscalculated the price of bitcoin when you bought it. Coinbase also charges some percentage as fees. So, you might have got less than $86 worth of bitcoin. Else, DannyHamilton and bob123 have given the right way to calculate. With bitcoin price fluctuation nothing happens to the amount of BTC you have, but USD amount increases or decreases in accordance to whether bitcoin appreciates or depreciates.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: High prices mean even higher volatility on: December 15, 2017, 08:15:08 AM
So, I was looking at the yearly bitcoin volatility chart. I would suggest you to go through it once. Volatility is varying highly with external demand than increasing price. The maximum volatility of the year was during April-May when there was an excess demand from Japan. After that volatility remained quite medium as there was demand but not excess, but price was increasing meanwhile. And now when there is again an overall hike in demand globally, volatility is high.
in the month of December, the value of bitcoin rose very drastically. you are more understanding and always observe volatility chart, does this mean volatility in this month is high enough? when you said, the maximum volatility is in April-May.
It was highest in April-May. But is still high in December too because there is global excess demand. Some new major market like India is emerging bringing in more demand.
478  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-15] Senior VP Says eBay “Seriously Considering” Bitcoin Integration on: December 15, 2017, 08:13:03 AM

High merchant fees

According to Bitcoin Fees, a transaction fee predictor on Earn.com, the fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently 360 satoshis / byte or $13 per transaction. Granted, the transaction fee of Bitcoin depends on the size of the mempool. But, the size of the Bitcoin mempool has consistently remained above 110 million bytes over the past few days.

Moreover, casual users and newcomers will not continuously check the size of the Bitcoin mempool to come up with the optimal satoshis per byte-based fee to pay merchants on eBay. Without sufficient scaling and lower fees, users on eBay will likely not pay for items with a fee of over $10.

Already, Steam has temporarily disabled its integration of Bitcoin due to the increasing complaints about high fees from its clients. The merchant and e-commerce adoption rate of Bitcoin have slumped in regions outside of Japan.

Given the current state of the Bitcoin Blockchain, it is likely that e-commerce platforms like eBay will only integrate Bitcoin once secondary layer solutions are ready for integration, such as Lightning Network. It is important to note that second-layer scaling needs Segregated Witness (SegWit) to operate, and the adoption rate of SegWit remains below 10 percent.

The adoption rate of SegWit could increase by large margins in early 2018, upon the integration of SegWit by Coinbase and Blockchain.info, two of the global market’s largest Bitcoin wallet platforms

https://cointelegraph.com/news/senior-vp-says-ebay-seriously-considering-bitcoin-integration
I strongly agree with this. People won't use bitcoin that generally has became a store of value because of inbuilt deflation as a currency or for making small transaction until lightening network becomes the reality for bitcoin. But I still doubt that people will be willing to spend their bitcoins instead of inflationary fiat for ebay small transactions.

Thanks for the asap reply , what is "ANN" all about?  I often see that word. Hope you wont mind.
So what will happen to the altcoins that's not into top 10 in coinmarket?
ANN are announcement threads of particular ICO or cryptocurrency company where they usually give details about their project, team and roadmap along with various links to their Twitter, Website or Telegram.

And nothing happens to the coins which are not in top 10. There are many potential coins which are not in top 10 and can make it through. Top 10s are large cap coins that usually the second preferred investment for people after bitcoin. Medium cap coins are good investment too. But small caps are merely for pump and dump.
