It's funny how the spam in that thread continues...

If by funny you mean depressing, then yes, I agree...  Tongue

That said, it has slowed down a bit. I saw that a whole hour passed between 2 of the shitposts on the last page; that has to be a record for that thread.

482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gtx 1060 3gb obsolete now ? on: June 25, 2018, 10:03:44 PM
I have a bunch of 3GB 1060s, too, and they are doing fairly well on any Ethash coin besides Ethereum (due to DAG size). Musicoin and Ubiq being two notable examples that aren't total shitcoins.

Those ethash copy cat coins are doing well cause eth is not in pos yet, as soon as eth goes pos then their profitability will crash to hell but on a bright side, crash more than this will be hard, profitability is so low, since 2015, gpu coins profitability was never this low. No miner with a sane mind can survive with profitability this low.

You forgot the "hehe"!

UBQ is definitely a copy-cat coin, but MUSIC has an interesting and unique use-case.

ETH going to PoS will definitely wreck all the other Ethash coins, though, but until then they are mineable.

I did not even try  the eth- enlargement pill from ogoditisagirl.
...

I don't feel so bad that I just today got around to trying out the ethlargement pill on two very different 1080s and all I can see is, "holy frijoles!" On a 2+ year old EVGA Founders Edition, Ethash went from a pathetic 21 MH/s to 30.5 MH/s and power consumption dropped about 40W. Next I tried it on a much newer Asus RoG Strix 1080 mining CryptoNight (not ideal, I know) and hashrate went from about 540 H/s to about 630 H/s.

However, trying to increase the memory clock rate by +100 caused the FE card to crash so hard I had to hit the reset button. So, be very, very careful with the overclocks while on the pill.

They also perform very well on Lyra2rev2 and Neoscrypt; I've mined Vertcoin and Trezarcoin, respectively, with them.

Otherwise, I mainly had them mining Zencash (Equihash) but recently took them off Equihash completely because difficulty started to rise from the ASICs.

I haven't tried Ravencoin or Pigeoncoin (X16r and X16s, respectively) but Nvidia does well on those algos in general.

485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO: DAG + Cryptonote + Bulletproofs + SSL + POW + Smart Contracts on: June 25, 2018, 08:13:27 PM
When @cpmcgrat was banned a few weeks ago I sided with --Serena--, but after getting the 3rd degree from her and Mojo on Slack for I'm still not sure what, and then seeing @h0g0f0g0 was banned from Telegram, and, finally, actually witnessing the conversation that lead up to you being banned on Slack, well, I'm no longer taking the DERO teams side.
...

You never got banned, and while you were exceptionally rude, we simply pulled you aside and spoke with you. I'm not sure why you would say we banned you when that's factually inaccurate.

What is factually inaccurate is your interpretation of what I wrote, possibly because you replaced my text with, "abcd." Then again, it could be that you chronically misinterpret what people write, perhaps leading you to accuse them of being, "exceptionally rude," for example, when they weren't, or even to banning them from Slack, Discord and Telegram...

I'm not interested in rehashing old slights, real or imagined; what I do want to see is CaptDero take a closer look at what you and Mojo have been up to, because if you keep banning everyone who disagrees with you there soon won't be much of a community left.

486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC on: June 25, 2018, 11:36:16 AM
This forum should have some kind of mechanism to protect the users from these scams. This way bitcointalk and it`s moderators are accomplices in the scam.

The forum already does have a mechanism to protect against scams: the loud and frequent warnings from high ranked members who have seen this play out many times before. If you didn't heed their warnings, well, you can't say you weren't warned in the first place.

There is also a legal reason for not attempting to block /possible/ scams - if the forum is not 100% effective at blocking them they could be held liable for implicitly backing any that slipped through (because plaintiffs would argue they thought the scam was legit since the forum didn't get rid of it).

But, IANAL, so... don't rely on that one for your defense.

@Mojo, Serena & Captain

odd how i was banned from Discord and Slack for viewing my opinions along with others that you strung along the community with the promise of anti-asic algo.
...

@CaptDero - you need to review the actions of Mojo and --Serena-- and then have a talk with them about proper community management. Yes, we should show your team members respect, but your team members better be damn sure we are attacking them and/or being abusive before banning us.

***

As for the decision to stick with the original CryptoNight algo for PoW, I understand the reasoning and though it took a few hours, I actually came to agree with it. What I don't agree with - and what many others seem to have a problem with, as well - is how we were very much mislead into believing Atlantis would use a new, ASIC-resistant algo, right up until the announcement that it wouldn't yesterday. Oh, sure, --Serena-- was quite cagey whenever she was asked about ASIC resistance these last few weeks, which might have been a clue there, but the way this decision appeared to occur so abruptly, and without any preface or explanation, has definitely angered many - just look at the collapse in DERO's price over the last 24 hours if you need any more of a hint. Yes, the Atlantis tech is very promising... but so was Betamax, to use one of history's most infamous examples of a superior tech getting shunted aside due to industry collaboration and marketing.

BTT is a place where people can say their oppinion about some project!

Here are some of the "oppinions" - I picked the first post of several pages from your thread:

p. 193
Very good project...thank you admin for airdrope

p. 192
Good project .i hope you will succeed

p. 191
cheese!!!!

p. 190
This is really exciting... Great project

Etc. and so on. Pretty much every single post of the 193 pages and counting of your thread is complete garbage. These are not opinions, they are mindless drivel.

You do not have the right to prohibit people from talking.

You've confused this forum with a free democracy. You don't have the right to say anything here; posting is a privilege, not a right.

489  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bumping ROOMDAO ICO ANN on: June 23, 2018, 01:12:29 PM
Here's a partial quote of what I wrote about bumping services in a meta thread:

What if the ANN thread is self-moderated by the OP? If the OP is not actively pruning shitposts after, say, 24 hours, then it seems reasonable to conclude this is not a case of a competitor attempting to tar the competition.

EDIT - for example, here is a rather egregious violator: the Roomdao ANN thread.

This is a self-moderated thread that is seeing a new post every 2-3 minutes on average, and virtually none of those 3400+ posts is worth a crap. Thus, we can safely conclude that this is not a competitor trying to frame Roomdao for incentivizing posting to its ANN.
...

Note who I used as an example...

I stand by my assertion that if the topic is self-moderated and there are *hundreds of pages* of spammy replies, well, the blame lies squarely with the OP.

One quibble, though, is that entering "r=" or "/r=" (with or without quotes) into a Google site-search or the forum's native search just returns results for "R" and that, of course, is totally useless. At least it does so for me.
It really does not matter. OP was explaining the referral link spamming things. In a URL, it could be anything depending on the developer of the site. However, most of the time we see like this: r= or ref= etc.

Truth is the variable can be anything.

I suspect you misunderstood me - I was saying that using the search terms "r=" or "/r=" to find posts with referral links does not work because both Google site-search and the forum's search engine act as if you searched for "R" instead. That would be a brilliant way to find ref-link spam, otherwise.

491  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: June 23, 2018, 10:08:19 AM
Out-freaking-standing! I didn't know about seclog so learned something new; I changed my password a few days ago and sure enough it showed up in the log.

492  Other / Meta / Re: Unique way to cheat the forum- Paid bumping on: June 22, 2018, 09:06:11 PM
I get that nuking the thread absent any solid proof might still be seen as drastic, so how about temporarily locking it for, say, 7 days, or until the OP cleans up all the spammy posts?
Even if he deletes all the spam from bump bots, the goal is still accomplished: the thread stays on top thanks to the spam.

Yes, I imagine the bump bots will continue posting even as the OP is deleting. I'm not really seeing any downsides to temporarily locking the thread, then. There has to be a smarter way of dealing with this rather than individually deleting posts or banning users (however much both may be deserved). I mean, a mod could literally spend all day on that Roomdao thread and only tread water, so to speak; the spammy shitposts begin on page 1 and continue, unrelenting, for the next 170+ pages...

493  Other / Meta / Re: Unique way to cheat the forum- Paid bumping on: June 22, 2018, 02:04:08 PM
That should merit a ban for the AAN OP no? Other company accounts too?
How do you know anyone related to the project is behind this?

You are right, this would make a great setup to damage your competition..

If the goal of paid bumping is to keep a thread on the first page then locking the thread, even temporarily, will ensure it falls far, far behind. I mean, just a 6 hour delay takes you back 5-6 pages!

Do you require any language translations?

Considering you spelled Whiskey wrong...

Whisky / Whiskey can be spelled both ways. It depends on where the drink was distilled.

I'm well aware of that, but in neither case is it spelled Whsi...

The fee to transfer BTC is always high in my opinion, but that aside, I saw this post in technical discussion:

I am a newcomer, and I have been quietly learning everything here for nearly six months. Now I start to work and hope to earn merit with my effort and wisdom.  Smiley

This is a forum, not a job. The whole point of joining a forum is to discuss a common interest, not to churn out posts to meet the requirements of some bounty or sig campaign (ie - work).

499  Other / Meta / Re: Mod - Please lift ban from my profile on: June 21, 2018, 12:11:48 PM
Hi

Please lift ban on my profile. I wasn't spamming just responded to the post requirements.

Thank you

You are a shitposter that got nailed for "incentivized posting to an ANN thread," something which is expressly forbidden, and there is even a sticky at the top of the Announcements subforum saying as much in its title, so no excuse not to know this rule.

500  Other / Meta / Re: SPAMBOT hunting: report spambot promoted threads on: June 21, 2018, 11:59:42 AM
...
Well, my shift of reporting starts soon, and I've just taken a quick look, and have already found several threads with the same bullshit as always. I think a general observation I've made is that threads which have "free" or "airdrop" in the title generate a lot more of these sort of replies.
...

I don't want to confuse cause and correlation here, but over 50% of my unhandled reports were processed overnight after I started noting that the history of a user/bot is full of the same type of messages.

I'm definitely seeing less of the word salad spam already this morning, but more of the usual, "nice project," shitposts. At least the word salad posts elicited the occasional chuckle; this shit just makes my eyes glaze over.

For example, the last 12 pages of the RoomDao ANN thread is comprised of nothing but newbies and jr. members spamming each other, and that represents a mere 4 hours of posts!?! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3130310.1980

In cases like this, I feel like the ANN thread itself should be nuked, just as has been done to Privcy [sic] several times.
