its a shame, although I never used it, I did look around a few times and it seemed like a good site.
502  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long? on: November 07, 2013, 05:54:17 PM
just a wild guess, another hundred years until pretty much no one uses them.

I bet we could come up with comparable pics of nerds with all kinds of crazy mining rigs.
504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi everyone ! on: November 05, 2013, 09:20:28 PM
I don't think there is money to be made mining with Erupters. I have a few Erupters running 24x7, but it's just for fun. Also if you want to do it for a hobby and you want to keep the power down, try using a raspberry pi.
505  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello!! on: November 05, 2013, 09:18:34 PM
welcome. I also have a hobby setup like that running 24x7 mining alt-coins.

welcome. How did you hear about bitcoin?
507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea to spread Bitcoin - Gas Stations on: November 05, 2013, 07:45:41 PM
Hey I'm sorry this is off topic but I see in your sig that you buy broken block erupters. May I ask why?

Thanks for reminding me, I fixed my sig so it included the link to my WTB thread. Collectibles mainly. Might make them into trinkets for people. I'm definitely going to use one as a keychain haha.

Not trying to fix them or anything if that's what you were wondering.

Really I had no idea. but thats pretty cool, maybe one day when bitcoin takes over the world it will be a collectable. I was thinking they could be turned into bottle openers.

I've been hearing about these here and there, now I'm going to check it out.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea to spread Bitcoin - Gas Stations on: November 05, 2013, 07:30:35 PM
If you own a gas station, why not?
How would you convince some owner to try this out? He'd have to be a bit supportive and have a basic understanding of bitcoin to being with..

I don't own a gas station, I just thought it would be a perfect avenue to get awareness to everyone.

Like anything else in business, you have to propose it and show the benefits for their business model.

I'd like to see the payment processed at the pump though, not in a POS system inside. To me the biggest hurdle to that is the equipment setup, particularly integrating with the station's current pump control system (I have no idea what this is, but I'm sure it's computer controlled).

I imagine the overall product to be a touchscreen LCD/OLED with a pinhole camera (a cheap tablet might even do the trick) dumb terminal at each pump which talks to a server inside the station. For stations which might want a low-up-front investment, they could simply have 1 or more centrally-located terminals instead of 1 per pump.

The server has to integrate with the current pump system to tell the pump how much fuel to allow--this is the tricky part, as I have no experience with this. It also checks the blockchain for funds available, to ensure the customer can pay--no holds on credit cards, which is nice.

The screen is where the customer handles the prepayment. Verification of funds is easy, the customer initiates the process, and the screen asks them for their wallet. Customer could use a paper wallet (make your own gas cards!) or their smartphone/tablet, and just hold it up to the gas pump. The server instantly checks available funds and lets them know they're good to go.

Then they can pump until they're full, or simply specify an amount (in litres/gallons/$) to pump. No need for a receipt, and it's all done instantly.

One additional beauty of this is that they don't need to use their cash, they can use something they mined, or otherwise something which (hopefully) grows in value over time. It's like a semi-self-regenerating gas card.

I just see this as a great avenue to get cryptocurrencies out to the masses. I have this and other great ideas, I'm technically inclined and could make the server and get the hardware setup, I just am spread too thin to fund such a venture. I'll end up doing something similar for my small business and see how it goes.

Maybe we can all build on this idea and get some interest? Bitcoin is by the people, for the people. Ideas for marketing it should be similar. I think this is a good one.

Of course maybe that's just me lol.

If you're purchasing BTC, ie receiving it, you don't need a wallet with you at all.

Set up a receiving address in advance and take note of the address. Ideally a QR code, after verifying your seller will be able to scan it.

Then all you need is a way to check that address on blockchain.info and wait for the funds to turn up before handing over your greens. You can do that with a LiveCD or something as previously mentioned.

wow why didn't I think of that! this is the answer!
511  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why I think Bitcoin will be over $5000 a coin on: November 05, 2013, 07:21:38 PM
the only thing that I don't like about the idea of BTC going to 5000 is that the FBI and some other bad guys have big accounts now too.

Even if BTC goes to $5000 the FBI's holdings are still massively smaller than just one month of FED printing. Remember the FED prints $85B each and every month to hold the world together.

$5k per BTC is nothing.

Thats true, I feel a little better now.

you could run a live CD with your wallet on a USB. Once the transaction is accepted, take the USB out. If it's a big deal, bring a friend or two as well, not only for the physical safety but to keep an eye out, make sure everything is going as expected. I know sometimes when I'm buying something it's hard to think about what the sell is doing when I'm focused on making the deal.

I'm sure it's been figured many times already, but what are the odds of this happening?

515  Other / Off-topic / Re: World Of Warcraft is it worth playing? on: November 05, 2013, 06:47:58 PM
I used to play a lot when it first came out, but after the first expansion pack was released I pretty much quit. In my opinion it's a waste of time.

I would like to not see a bubble, but if we get one I will be happy to buy a few BTC when it bursts.
