501  Other / Serious discussion / Re: New rules of Bittrex. Should be Russian afraid? on: February 28, 2018, 12:40:12 AM
On March 9, 2018, the New bittrex rules will take effect
https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000560871

Quote

...

2.2. Restricted Locations

You may not use the Services if you are located in, or a citizen or resident of any state, country, territory or other jurisdiction that is embargoed by the United States or where your use of the Services would be illegal or otherwise violate any applicable law.

...

Does this mean that Russian citizens will not be able to use this exchange? After all, the United States imposed sanctions against Russia

P.S >> And aslo there is one impotant moment: now bittrex has the right to request any information about users who refuse to provide will be banned. So it was before, but now they are talking about it directly

Your concerns are justified. Given the madness of the cold war against Russia, I would not be surprised if they force Bittrex to play their dirty little games. I recommend:

1. You move any tokens stored at Bittrex away from the exchange.

2. After moving your tokens away (if applicable), it would be best to contact Bittrex support and ask them directly for clarification.

I hope the above helps. Good luck my friend.
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is MEW Safe to use now? on: February 28, 2018, 12:21:15 AM
mew is a safe wallet. but you should always check the URL address for the possible phising site. Just be always be careful entering on your private key.

Yes, if there is no hardware wallet to fall back on, it is always best to communicate with MEW via MetaMask.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 46% of last year's ICOs have failed already on: February 28, 2018, 12:19:08 AM
https://news.bitcoin.com/46-last-years-icos-failed-already/

  • 46% of them are effectively dead already – despite raising over $104 million.
  • 902 crowdsales... 142 failed at the funding stage and a further 276 have since failed

As long as failed ICOs are not equated to failed projects. It is more a combination of failed marketing efforts and the rejection of unwanted offerings than anything else.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is MEW Safe to use now? on: February 28, 2018, 12:12:14 AM
Recently there was a split between the team behind MEW and a new paper wallet site opened up.  Is MEW still safe to use with a Ledger?

Yes, it should be safe to use at both MEW and MyCrypto.com

You're spot on with the lessons you learned. I am sorry that you had to learn the hard way.

As you've realized, education is key. To those who don't know better yet: Greed, not knowing better and fear can be a rather deadly combination. It is better to take the time to learn from the various resources available online than to jump in half-cocked and suffer big losses.
506  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why wallet hacked on: February 27, 2018, 11:46:17 PM
Using private key is not safe?I used private key but I was hacked all my assets are gone..what should I do?

There are numerous ways in which they could get their hands on your private key. I recommend:

1. Using a bitcoin/crypto hardware wallet such as a Trezor or Ledger Nano S.

2. Alternatively, always use MetaMask when you communicate with MEW, etc.

I hope the above helps.
507  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: U.S. Taxes - What to do? on: February 27, 2018, 11:37:21 PM
Suppose you bought and sold Bitcoin and a number of other cryptocurrencies and moved coins around between several wallets. If you’re American, what on earth do you do? Does H&R Block know bitcoins?

If you're scared and wish to declare all, try Crypto Tax Prep offered by Happy Tax: https://cryptotaxprep.com/

Alternatively:

1. They have to prove that a certain wallet belongs to you.

2. Crypto exchanges such as Coinbase and Poloniex are sharing info with the IRS - avoid them like the plague itself. Use alternative on and off-ramps. E.g. the cash option offered by LocalBitcoins.com

3. Make use of privacy tokens such as VERGE (XVG), PIVX (PIVX), Zcash (ZEC), Monero (XMR) and DASH (DASH).

I could tell you more, but then I might be in more serious trouble.
508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Saving Bitcoins for your Children. on: February 27, 2018, 05:41:31 PM
Like every other investment such as real estate, stocks and other forms of investment we know that you can invest in that kind of things and then you get something like say a Certificate or a Binding Document as a proof that you are part of that investment, now that of bitcoin all you have is just your address, your password, key and seeds as proof of the ownership of the wallet.

BTC

So now if one is considering buying bitcoins and saving for his/her children in the future is there any way to do that with bitcoins apart from having to write down your details somewhere. I'm asking because with that kind of stuff if no one knows your seeds or password no one can get the coins. Huh Huh Huh

I don't know if it was already mentioned here, but you might want to look into DigiPulse. They are in the digital inheritance business.
509  Other / Serious discussion / Re: To all scammers on: February 27, 2018, 12:11:37 AM
I reckon at some point in time (not to far away) crypto becomes accepted. Mayb even more then fiat. In times like these when crypto isnt even at the surface yet u can hide and blend in. Appearing successfull even, cause u "made it" in crypto.
But imagine how that will be once there will be mainstream adoption.

People will be more aware that there were a lot of scams back in the days. It will be locked in the back of their heads.
That means u will be "scanned" every day by everybody. And when people talk about it ull have to hide... u will never be free again anymore. U will be the cockroach u truly are.

I can't help to wonder how many of them are bankster/state sponsored actors - people who are getting paid to bring disrepute to cryptos.

We need to set up an international non-profit organization that can be used to actively:

1. Educate people on how to spot and avoid becoming victims of scams,

2. trace and track down perpetrators

3. and make sure that justice is served!

Yes i also think that some partnerships could be very good for cryptoflix, like mainstream studios. There is a lot to do with movies industry, it will be a brand new concept to use crypto to watch and fund film.
Maybe they can have a partnership with some potential companies/people that missed a chance to have partnership with Netflix.

I think their focus in the start should not be on mainstream studios, since that will cost a lot of money. Focusing on smaller more indie developers will allow Cryptoflix to offer unique content and that way you don't directly compete with big players like Netflix, but offer unique content that is a niche, a specialized offering.

I couldn't agree more. There are indie film makers who are great at what they do - at a fraction of the cost. Many of them ask for funding via sources such as Indiegogo - and feel strong about losing their independence, their ability to create movies to their liking. Offer them something better and I am sure they will use their talents to make movies for and help market CryptoFlix - a win-win for everybody involved. There should definitely be a solid initiative to reach out to them.

there are no guarantee at the moment this is going to be a huge success like netflix

you are right, but also it could be bigger than netflix ?
I don't think that this is even remotely possible. Netflix is huge company

Blockchain technology and what it can unleashes are much-much bigger than a million Netflix companies. There is great potential here, although nothing is set in stone.
The potential of this project with the blockchain technology is huge but to get close to Netflix, many things have to happen. Very good marketing campaign, good films of own production, ...

True. Nothing will come without hard work, dedication and some good luck. Wink

Bitcoin price prediction:

$100k - 2018

$350k - 2019

$1,000,000 - 2020

Nothing is guaranteed, but never underestimate the power of a first mover and the network effect (not even to speak of blockchain technology). Wink

Really? A million? Then its better to just buy 1 bitcoij. Instead of holding several k of alts

Don't take it as financial advice, but the best policy in my experience is to have a portfolio consisting of both Bitcoin and the best alts money can buy. You want a good mix of crypto index tokens, dividend tokens, day trading tokens, utility tokens, etc. Like with most things in life - balance is key. If not, you need to have a rather strong constitution to stomach the risks attached to having exposure to only Bitcoin. That being said, buying and holding 1 Bitcoin and then expanding from there into alts as income allows probably wouldn't hurt too much. Again, nothing is guaranteed - it could go to zero.
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: do you day trade or prefer a long term hold? on: February 26, 2018, 09:16:10 PM
So I'm slowly going into crypto and I want to know if any of you trade altcoins daily, or you prefer to hold it for long term? What do you think it's better and why?

Thanks

Personally I do a mix of both worlds - directly and indirectly. I HODL for the long-term and day trade, but I don't handle the day trading myself. To get exposure to day trading, I buy into projects with experienced teams that specializes in day trading. This while I make use of crypto index funds to spread the risks. I also make sure I have a good mix of dividend tokens for a monthly income. Needless to say, I only touch tokens with long-term potential - meaning tokens that have the potential to survive long-term.
515  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is a scam?! on: February 26, 2018, 08:58:03 PM
I am a newbie and i asked few people, and these people are people.i respect, because in terms of current news or financial situations of different countries, they are always updated or knowledgable about this topic, but how come when i asked them about bitcoin, they said it is a scam, what are the resons for them to say so?
I am new and haven't read much so i just want to get your POV.
TIA for your comments.

The internet itself was at the beginning accused of being a scam, a funding mechanism for terrorism, etc. Yet, very few people I know don't use the internet today. The same is true for Bitcoin. Those who call it a scam don't understand that it is something of immense value - a decentralized digital currency that enables peer-to-peer transactions. Either that or they're getting paid to call it a scam.
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poloniex is bought by Circle on: February 26, 2018, 08:45:13 PM
http://fortune.com/2018/02/26/circle-cryptocurrency-trade-bitcoin/

Did anyone see this? pretty big news. I wonder if there is any correlation between these news and the latest big green candle in the Bitcoin price we've seen? I mean Circle is backed by Goldman Sachs... I would be pretty sure some insider trading has been going on before the deal was made public.

Anyone still has funds in Poloniex? I haven't logged in for a long time. They used to let you trade anonymously, I had some stupid fake name on there because back then they didn't care. I assume that now that GS is in you can forget about that.

I’ve heard this and the only thing that is concerning to me is that one article links Circle to Goldman Sachs. They say that Circle is backed by Goldman Sachs, which means that a big bank is now in the cryptocurrency business. I don’t know if it’s a good idea for a big mainstream bank to have their hands in decentralized cryptocurrencies but I guess we’ll see what happens. I guess the positive is they may not fight it since they are invested in it.

Given the history of Goldman Sachs, they will most likely use Polo as a vehicle to manipulate prices and to cause all kind of shenanigans in the market. The fiat they invested is most likely of little concern to them as they have access to an almost unlimited stream of fiat - the very stream of fiat that they are so hell-bent to defend at any cost. They are not stupid. They understand that you have to get in and break it down from the inside out.

I've stopped using Polo after they introduced a new set of insane terms and conditions last year (July/August 2017). The latest news has only strengthened my resolve not to use them again. I am not a fan boy of the likes of Goldman Sachs.

Beyond the content, get account security right and folks like me should give it a shot. This is unlike with Netflix where accounts get compromised left, right and center - completely destroying the user experience. This while Netflix is always trying to pin their security flaws on users.

What about the upcoming decentralized video platforms like DTube and Viewly? They are more used for vlogs but I could see them also being used for education and entertainment. They are less suitable for selling and funding blockbuster movies, that I agree with.

For me the most important of Crypoflix is the funding part, when I read the first time I didn't get hooked by the videos on demand part, but the crowdfunding part hell yeah, it can be a great thing

I also was more attracted to the movie investment idea - as more of a unique value proposition to the crypto world. Even if the video viewing portion of the project doesn't get traction, if the movie funding idea works out the project can still survive.

If they do it right - create a smooth experience, I am sure they will see a lot of interest in terms of both the funding and viewing part. I for one like to fund and watch movies. Cool
