501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: May 03, 2014, 11:36:53 PM
Woah, these 2 weeks seem like an explosion in the UNO community. Everybody is finally coming out of the trenches. Wink

The past 2 months it seemed almost dead with only occasional sparks of activity. Now look at this. We have dozens of people commenting, posting their ideas and giving suggestions about future directions for UNO. When I asked people to share their ideas a few pages back I never expected so much exciting stuff to be honest.

And we finally have a great dev again, Soopy. And a great community leader, FallingKnife. I am excited and thrilled to see this. Lets keep this momentum.

Really like those mockups, looking good kosmost.

Markets are quiet today. Not much going on. Converted some MYR profits to LTC, might buy some more KARM today.

Any news on the coin adjustments/changes?
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: May 02, 2014, 09:20:55 PM
weren't people able to withdraw later as coinex came back on? Right now it's not more than 100 unos on their books. I for my part actually don't believe it was hacked at all given the fact that Siteowner tried to erase his online presence and only reopened after that failed and pictures of him were circulating in the forum and on twitter. So maybe that hack did never take place.
How to tell how much was stolen? Can you actually not withdraw right now from there? How about mailing them asking how much went missing? Site is still up.
Site is up but its a trap! DO NOT DEPOSIT COINS THERE! The devs are unresponsive, withdrawals are broken. You won't see any coins from there again. Actually from what's going on right now, it looks like a scam, a desaster...
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: May 02, 2014, 12:42:46 PM
I don't think that's unrealistic at all. In early april they had a daily trade volume on UNO of well over 100 UNO most days (e.g. april 3rd is at ~120, 4th at ~117, 5th at ~139) and that's just the coins that were being traded, the order books are always much bigger than the trades taking place. For all we know trade volume might have been even higher BEFORE the hack and the re-opening of the site (which happened late march)

Even now that the exchange is dead/dying they got in their books, lets see ...
Code:
UNOs on sale:                               104.0
Trade volume last 24h:                        4.1
Ratio of UNOs in orderbook to UNOs traded:   25.4

Now lets apply that math to Coinex holdings from one month ago, lets take a conservative 100 UNO/day:
Code:
Trade volume last 24h:                      100.0
Ratio of UNOs in orderbook to UNOs traded:   25.4
Possible UNOs in CoinEx wallets:           2540.0

Of course those are VERY rough estimates, but keep in mind they don't even account for the fact that many people often store way more coins in an exchange wallet, than they are actively selling. So even if the orderbook/traded ratio was more like 5-10 instead of 25, you could probably easily double the amount UNOs actual in the exchange wallet compared to those in the orderbooks.

They way I see it 1k UNOs (1 ton) is the MINIMUM amount that was stolen from CoinEx. It could easily have been 5x that. [edit:] Making the thief one of the top10 UNO holders...
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Coinex Exchange Removed from OP on: May 02, 2014, 09:33:31 AM
Removed CoinEx from OP list of UNO exchanges and pools.

If you had coins there, I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope they sell us back their stolen UNO.  It saddens me to think of even one single rare KG of Un lost from the market.
Such a shame, for a while CoinEx was my favourite exchange. I was lucky my instincts told me to get out in time (I encountered a bug that caused me a significant loss due to their slow support). Could have been a lot worse. I feel for anybody who lost coins there.

And I am a little worried about the amount of UNO that went missing from there. IIRC Bryce Weiner once said CoinEx was quite popular among UNO miners. If that's true then several tons of UNO might have been stolen...

So I guess you are operating the @unobtanium_uno account FK? Good one, I follow U!

But I unfollowed all those pumper clowns on Twitter a while ago. Their "fair slow pumps" are like watching a 14 year old masturbating. They're over before they even started. Its fun to watch if it happens to a coin you already own though, nothing to loose in that case, only to gain - sell high, rebuy low. Smiley

Good for you, but I got no BTC left my friend.  Cry
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 29, 2014, 11:26:47 PM
I wish. Well at least I got some cheap UNO out of it...
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 29, 2014, 11:12:48 PM
Somebody is cleaning the orderbook up and down - now sells as low as .002
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 29, 2014, 11:09:48 PM
What is going on with UNO on Mintpal?! It is going crazy, buys up to .014 and volume already higher than the last weeks combined...
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Are Wolong & Fontas lurking UNO? on: April 29, 2014, 10:41:41 PM
I'd be very interested in your findings FallingKnife.

My guess is that the top10 wallets hold over 20% of UNO. But only one or two wallets have more than 10k. Now tell me how wrong I am....
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 29, 2014, 09:31:22 PM
@prominerone: That quote is a marketing-statement from the website, right? I don't think UNO has any privacy/anonymity features that bitcoin hasn't. Maybe the team had plans, but after the failed UNO/PANDA Wolong pump thingy the devs abandoned ship. Soopy has just taken over and is luckily helping us fix flaws with the coin, but I don't expect he's working on any new features yet. Wink Is increased anonymity really a feature that would make sense for UNO? Never really thought about it before.

So a Timewarp attack has taken place against UNO? I only know about it what a quick Google search revealed but it does sound bad. What do you propose Soopy? Is this something that KGW/DGW or Digishield could prevent (I heard Digishield is rated highly effective against difficulty manipulation)?

The network needs to be protected against this sort of manipulation. So if you think you have a solution please go ahead. I have pretty clearly argued against a change to PoS for Karma as I think it is and should remain a miner's coin. But with UNO rapidly nearing the end of its mining phase - and being more of an investment than a coin for daily use - a switch to PoS might actually make sense somewhere down the road. So far PoS seems to be more resilient to attacks than PoW. Just something to think about ...
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][KARM] Karma & Karmashares LLC // New Windows Wallet on: April 28, 2014, 01:23:39 PM
I was responsible for the last peak to 50, it was just too tempting and I still had a little LTC left. Lasted short enough. Every raise is countered by a dump.

The dump volume has been getting lower lately and there is a slow upwards trend forming over the past 2 days (30ish to 40ish floor). Of course now that i said it, someone is probably going to dump Karma down to 30 again, like the last time I made a positive market statement... hope not.
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 28, 2014, 01:02:54 PM
I wish there was a way to filter out those spammy ~0.0001 BTC buy and sell oders @cryptsy, they make it really hard to estimate where the "real" barriers lie and limit usability of the orderbook. Of course that is exactly their purpose...
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][KARM] Karma & Karmashares LLC // New Windows Wallet on: April 28, 2014, 11:17:57 AM
We are thinking about that for weeks now.
We may go PoS soon... more details to come.
Thank you for this concern.
Yes I know you are onto it, I have voiced my opinion in this argument a few times in the old thread. Smiley

I was just bringing this up for discussion again, since most talk has been about Karmashares lately (rightfully so). I just think changing to PoS is a bit cheesy these days, every 2nd coin is going that way. Who would have thought that half a year ago? Maybe its just a short lived trend, maybe its PoS finally establishing itself as a true competitor to PoW? I don't know.

TBH I just like the idea of miners securing the blockchain more than PoS. Miners have an IMO important role to play in crypto and completely taking them out of the picture puts a coin's fate purely into the hands of investor/speculators. That's why I brought up the algorithm change as a possible alternative...
516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][KARM] Karma & Karmashares LLC // New Windows Wallet on: April 28, 2014, 09:12:45 AM
I've been thinking about the scrypt algorithm, upcoming ASICS and their effect on small scrypt coins a lot lately. For those unaware (not all here are miners I asume), 2nd generation scrypt ASICS are about to become available and will change the game:
https://www.kncminer.com/products/titan has ~300MH/s, that's almost 200x the hashing power of today's most powerfull scrypt-mining-GPUs. Essentially one of these monsters has more power than any but the biggest GPU-farms out there and would suffice to dominate the network of any smaller scryptcoin (Doge/Litecoin might be resilient enough, but the rest?). Until hardware like this becomes widespread (which will take many months) a lot of coins will face some serious abuse from early owners of such hardware. We can also completely forget about "the little guy" mining Karma, it will be industral scale miners only (and guess what they'll do, dump the coin for BTC or the latest hip multipool-coin)...

I was previously against a change to PoS, but in face of this "threat" I see only three options:
  • ignore it and hope for the best
  • switch to PoS before the end of May
  • adopt a different algorithm, like X11 or Groestl (or even better - adopt Myriadcoins multi-algo system, that's a killer feature!)

Coin supply/limit should remain intact IMO, but adjust it so that the remaining coins get distributed over a longer period of time. I'm talking years, not months...

Opinions?
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 28, 2014, 08:57:21 AM
I'll be interested in this only if I see  it on the Fontase twitter account, or if Wolong mentions it on /Gameofdeception.

More likely someone trying to start a rumor to move UNO up or down quickly (can't tell what they are trying to accomplish).  Doesn't change my strategy.

If someone wants to sell UNO really, really cheap, that's not a problem for me because I'm still buying.  Bring it on, Fontas.

If I'm the last person holding UNO, that's great... then i can finally cross off "Buy up all UNO" from my bucket list and get back to trying to sleep with Lindsay Lohan.
Oh I have no intention to sell, especially not based on stupid rumors. I'm just sometimes a bit sick of all the power-crazy pump and dumpers and market manipulators, that's all. UNO isn't even all that bad. Try being a Zetacoin holder on Twitter these days. Or any ColorCoin basically... Wink

I discovered UNO before all this Wolong craze, I liked the rarity of UNO and decided to day trade it, even had some moderate success. Then Wolong hit the trenches and I admit I was excited about the price action. But I didn't buy high and I decided not to sell off my UNO even at .03-.04 (maybe stupid in hindsight as I could have 8x that UNO now, but the markets are unpredictable and I honestly didn't expect to see .004x prices again on UNO).

Once the dust had settled (price < .01) I decided it was time to increase my position and now at < .006 I am getting bit greedy. Its still a small stash, but I'm working on it and whenever I've got some profit from other trades I pick up some UNO and KARM (50/50). Two of the best long term coins there are IMO.
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 27, 2014, 08:52:28 PM
Wolong said to own 80k UNO and another pumper group wants to accumulate UNO to dump on him if/when he makes a move? Sounds like a script for a bad crypto-hacker movie. I hope its made up, 'cause a war of pumpers could damage UNO beyond repair...
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 25, 2014, 11:13:42 PM
"only 196,875 Proof of Work UNO will be minted before .0001 minimum block subsidies take effect at block 612,000"

http://unobtanium.io/2014/01/13/technical_details_and_advantages_of_the_unobtanium_network/

177,760 Unobtanium are now minted @ block ~ 338,000.  Less than 20 tons (20,000) UNO will be minted before block 612,000.

Smooth transition to the new wallet.  No problems here.
I'll be damned, I didn't even know that. That means the last ~50k UNO will be mined VERY slowly over many years and UNO is - in terms of short-to-mid-term supply - almost 90% mined!? We're going to run out of cheap UNOs within weeks ladies and gentlemen. Time to stock up! Wink

520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][KARM] Karma & Karmashares LLC // New Windows Wallet on: April 25, 2014, 12:26:48 PM
~5billion Karma have been exchanged so far, IIRC that's more than 10% of all Karma in existance. Quite impressive. You can all stop now, I don't want my %/profits to go down any further. Wink
I would have expected more trading going on now that we're in the last 2 days of the 10x reward. Maybe this will play out like an ebay auction and all the action happens at the very last minute.

@cryptowho excellent points about what a coin and community needs to succeed. But not everyone can become as involved as you have. I have thought several times about offering my help (I'm a web dev), but have come to the conclusion that I just cannot contribute in any meaninfull way due to time constraints. I have a business to run, family and kids - if there is one thing in my life I do not have enough of it is time (spent away from a computer screen).

I am trying to do my part by buying and holding Karma, investing in the LLC and being active in the forum. These forum threads are one of the first things people check out once they learn of a coin and nothing screams "stay away" like an inactive community thread. Right now that will have to do...
