501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has this ever happened to you as a gambler? on: March 02, 2024, 03:15:00 PM
What could cause a gambler to place a bet to the extent that he no longer has money to pay for the games he played?

Before I read the body of your post, I already knew it was visual gambling that would get a player that engrossed not to know when to throw in the towel  Grin

So the question now is: What could really put a gambler in such a situation, addiction, or greediness?

So you have already suggested the answers and they are both addiction and greed but I think greed is the more concerned to why a gambler will forget their pocket or bankroll because they are carried away to win either a fresh game or win back what they have been losing. I believe it is greed that leads into addicttion.

This man is not the first to go into such gambling oblivion, many get to that level and they drop their belongings to come back to bail it at a later date or time. It is not something strange and gambling agents already know a gambler can over step his budget so it doesn't really get to the extent of bringing in the law enforcement like the police. It usually ends by resolution on agreement that the gambler has to remit a belonging of his that will be of the range of his debt and come back to provide the money and collect his belongings. Well this is just the phenomenon that is popular in offline gambling unlike online that has no credit facility, it is pay as you play and no room for debts.
502  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losing at gambling on: March 02, 2024, 01:41:08 PM
It is a natural feeling that nobody would want to lose his money and there is that sad feeling going with it. This could lead to transferred aggression on other people but it leads to more problem if it is the spouse that is involved.

There is two ways that this situation of losing is made worse in the family and one is that the man is angry that he didn't make profit while the woman also is going to be sad that the man has lost the money he was suppose to take care of the family with, so there is always pressure in the family when betting is lost.

I don't know.. I don't think divorce decision would depend on such issue ! 😳

It is possible to lead to divorce that a man prefers to gamble and makes more losses and his not able to take care of his family. If this is a repeated occurrence where the man is a serial loser making him to be financially impecunious, the woman can use that to run away from the man. You don't want to live where your man isn't responsible enough to take care of the family but prefer to gamble his luck on a bet.
503  Economy / Economics / Re: Some people acts stranded and in need of the ways for breakthrough but not ready on: March 02, 2024, 09:01:45 AM

I simply asked him if he can engage in an investment platform that he may stay couple of times without profits? He said how long? And I said I don't know, the system would decide then he asked me to give him a range of time then I said maybe around 6months ahead.
He said no way he can', then i paused and deep inside of me, I was happy that I haven't exposed my source of income to him yet which I intended to introduce him in.

I understand the point of your message that anchors on impatient on the part of people while they want to make money. Some are even not willing to labour for it at the time you give them the job they are seeking for. Some employers have had to sack their workers as soon as they were employed because they are lazy to carry out the work they plead for while jobless.

The economy is not very easy generally but it is easy for the few who have worked smart and patient to get to the top that they aspire. Your friend wants easy money but unfortunately there are no easy money anywhere, you have to work for it. Some people when they are employed stay on probation for some months for they get paid so nothing is new under the sun.

However, I believe this topic is not well suitable for this board, consider moving it to politics and society https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=34.0
504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which of these betting Statements Do you Agree or Disagree With? on: March 01, 2024, 09:30:04 PM

1. Don't bet all your money on one bet.

I agree with this. In fact it will be an act of unresponsible gambling attitude for a gambler to throw in his all his bankroll on one bet except it is the last set of money in his balance and it is within the range of what he do gamble with but to bet with an amount beyond what he is used to before probably because someone advised him on the possibility of winning the game, this is not a good way to gamble.

2. Bet the same amount on every bet.

Well it is good and shows discipline but at times, this is not always the case as some do make adjustment upwards in their stake  Grin

3. Don't bet more than once a day.

What happens if you see a good game to bet on? To have a minimal betting times is good but to restrict it to once daily depends. It is not necessarily that you must bet in a day because if the role is to bet once a day it means whether it is good bet or bad bet then you must bet to fulfill once in a day betting. I don't agree to this philosophy because I know all days are not good days for gambling and so you can decide to seat back and watch until the next game or future day until the time is right for you to bet. Afterall, what the expectation is, is for winning and not losing, so you have to bet based on what signal you get to bet.

4. Don't bet every day.

This is also in order but also inline with not being able to spot possible winning or spotting possible winning game. So this also depends on what you have the possibility to win. So what happens if you have already bet for the day and you see another possible winning chance.
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: your perception about gambling on: March 01, 2024, 03:50:49 PM
Gambling is not restricted to some individuals or class and all people can playing gambling. The problem is many underage playing gambling because they see gambling can gives fast money to them although that is not always right because winning gambling is depends on your luck and your analysis. We also see someone that is religious playing gambling and forget about his religion for a while. We should realizes that playing gambling or not is about personal decisions and even if our society or religion leader prohibits gambling, they can force their people to stop gambling and stay away from gambling. People knows about prohibition on playing gambling but they still playing gambling.

When restriction is made on gambling it is not based on religion but either for social reasons to protect the people and it is the government that does that, religious bodies don't do that but they can give strong warning or sanction to members but they can not watch over all members because even some religious heads do play in secret just like you have also said. Prohibition of gambling is for the health of the society based on the particular government reason or reasons for doing it and one could be to guide against underaged gambling. To avoid loses from the citizens like they want their people to channel resources into other productive area of lives.  The government believe gambling is a waste despite the winning season so they want to prevent loses by prohibiting it although some could be for religious reasons like certain countries have been known for religious reasons.
506  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mom won 50,000$ in Lottery on: March 01, 2024, 02:56:39 PM

Most of us spend our whole lives participating and thinking that one day, we will win the big lottery but it seems an impossible thing. However, when we see other people's winning and changing their lifestyle, the hope of winning among us keeps alive.

Well many of the gamblers who have not been winning will keep having wishful thinking until they will never win this big even the one that is mistaken for a win may not come their way. So quitting too isn't a bad omen or sign of weakness but to show you have identified that it is not working for you and therefore avoiding addiction because if you get into addicttion and yet you don't get to win as such, it will further lead you into what will take you time to recover, if you didn't eventually lose your senses. I have seen some gamblers who have turned insane because of their uncontrollable gambling leading them into other addiction that destroyed their health.

Anyway, she is lucky to even think of $5,000 yet it was just 10% of her actual winning. Her own patients paid in for her, some times life could be this fair at other times it won't. So we have to be satisfied with what comes our way, we can only try harder to change it but destiny can really have controlling factor in our dealings. This is definitely a life changing winning for the average old woman and hope much of the winning won't have to go back into gambling.
507  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does having children have an influence on gambling habits? on: March 01, 2024, 12:01:21 PM
When you have one or more children, you have heavy responsibilities.

Sure. The more you expound your family through childbirth, the more the financial commitment and responsibilities.

Sometimes you're on a tight budget.

Not sometimes but almost all the time. Taking care of family is takes more from the parents. The children doesn't understand any other thing apart from their needs which must be met if you want a happy home and enjoy your kids and wife. If you don't meet those needs be sure you will have a nagging wife with colouration of disrespect  Grin

Can being a parent change our playing habits?

Certainly so because having a family is a big responsibility that drains someone out financially especially if you are not financially buoyant and even it is a strain on average family. Therefore, to combine gambling expenses with having a family is quite challenging. If you are a family person, a lose is more painful than a single man who only takes care of his own need as one person . So it makes the responsible family man to either slow down his betting budget, certain risks may be minimised unlike those still single.

Are losses even harder to bear when you're in charge of a family? What are your experiences in this area?

Surely. A single man can easily work away in loses without much sad feeling but because a family man has more responsibility, he would almost express regrets after the lose. In some cases you will hear some in offline gambling shop secretly saying to themselves that they would have used that money to buy diaper for the baby at home but they only wanted to try their luck and now that they have lost the money, that they are stranded. There are different regrets expressed by family men when they lose bets because of the huge family commitments.

508  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: March 01, 2024, 06:15:57 AM
This na the case of say Nigerian government don murder sleep and pikin wey say im mama no go sleep, the pikin too no go sleep, na as simple as that. The thing go be like rat race and they will make other exchange to dey popular for naija until we finally begin patronize decentralised exchange because some guys don already dey settle with P2P arbitrage trading and dem sabi how much cool cash wey dem dey make from am, so dem no go just relax and fold their hands and watch government chase dem out of business wey be say na even online.

It is not funny as government dey chase shadow by witchhunting her people because of their very bad policies, make dem fix country dem say no.

Anyway, we go still know if dem truly detail binance guys because me I don't think they have such right to do so. Those guys come for discussion to see how the Nigerian situation can be supported. Nigerian government no get any right to hold dem back at least they were not in the wanted list so no basis for arresting them whatsoever.

However, my advise be say since the app is still on people wey get coin for binance fit rescue some out until we see the face of this matter to avoid stories that touch the heart.
509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports that you don’t watch but you keep placing bets on: March 01, 2024, 04:46:49 AM
I like to watch racing like horserace or dog race, so sometimes I could just bet on it without actually knowing so much about them but just because of the speed that I enjoy to watch I could just ask a friend to bet on them. Apart from games I'm not really use to, it is not necessary to bet on football matches that you can predict the outcome. Sometimes I don't watch some league but I could pick them up just because of the odd that I see and I take a lucky chance on them.
510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: your perception about gambling on: February 29, 2024, 09:15:11 PM

This idea actually started when i saw a pastor playing bet9ja after a brief evangelism and one elderly woman made a side comment ( That even man of GOD also play gamble) .

There is a connection between gambling and the holy because of the teachings there. The holy books talk about gambling as a venture for money doubling and it also condemned the love for money as the route to evil. This is to say that to love money could make you have another view to live and making money.

So there is a way that people will look at those who are gambling as disobeying the instructions from the holy book and worse of is to see people who are advocates of the holy book then going against what they preach at the pulpit which from your statement seeing a pastor was like a surprise for you and likewise the old woman's statement. So it has always been like that to be surprised when people as clerics gambling because they can't avoid preaching against that and people see them as class of people that should practice what they preach. Likewise some strong followers and believers of the message try to avoid gambling and when they are seen gambling, it is the same shock that will be expressed.
511  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are children born out of wedlock is still a blessing from God? on: February 29, 2024, 07:13:29 PM
Abi Dem Born you for inside Marriage? What about those who waited to be married before they will start having kids and ends up not having one. It is only God who has program this life the way it is.

Anyway, most of the things you talked about are even beginning to change even in African society so we don't even need to worry about them anymore.

Regards to children and bearing kids, it is totally in the hands of God. You will see rich family without a child while a poor family has plenty of it and rejecting.

This is a dilemma to say the least but however, why I alluded that some of the things have started changing is that, in African society now, legal adoption of kids is now prevalent so no family has any excuse to give for not having a baby in the house after they have tried by themselves with no avail and the children from such adopted background are no longer stigmatized because almost in every extended family, you get to see a family member or someone close with adopted baby, so why the stigma and you see that is going away gradually.

Also in the past, there use to be segregation on the sex of a child because of certain benefits like being a heir to the father and inheritance purposes but now, in some states, county etc, they have really played down on those sex and even gender responsibilities because things have really changed and people have to move on, enjoying the good radiance of life. In some places in Africa, they now tell you a child is a child no matter the sex.
512  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Binance problems with FG intensify on: February 29, 2024, 05:08:00 PM
If them like make them disable P2P for binance e no mean say guys no dey buy or sell btc before now and dem go far back to how dem don dey deal their on P2P before. The thing about that disabling be say e go reduce some guys income like those wey dey depend on binance P2P on their arbitrage buying and selling. You see that thing wey be Nigerian government problem, dem don take food away from some people now because of their own ineptitude and inefficiency.

It is appalling say dis government never even bring policy wey go benefit the people. I don't know wetin concern binance for the Nigeria wey dey fall. Instead them go begin projects wey go fix the economy then Naira go begin recover them go dey witch-hunt business people.

Refinery wey dem suppose to complete for December, that one no get head, they are suppose to hide their face in shame as they keep looking for what to tie to Naira crashing and forgetting that Nigeria is over dependent on foreign exchange. The other day wey the CBN governor go senate to explain wetin dey happen to Nigeria, him say na students wey dey travel go school for abroad dey cause am as if other countries in Africa don't travel to study. Na funny situation we dey.
513  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How your feels? on: February 29, 2024, 04:28:47 PM

Sure, looking back now, I wonder what if I hadn't gambled it and just held onto all that crypto instead.  But you can drive yourself crazy with those kinds of thoughts about the past and  i try not to dwell on it too much.  Im just trying to take the lessons I learned and do better moving forward.  No point in beating myself up over it.

I wouldn't even look back at those times loses were recorded because that was risk taken to gain more and a gambler that is still looking backwards at his losses is not ready to move on because instead of looking at the losses it would be better to imagine profit and that will motivate you to think let it go and see it as an adventure for profit that didn't become a success.

Someone thinking to move on gambling can only learn from the past but not to dwell on it, if you keep looking that past and you don't pick the positive then you will keep being afraid to make a positive change in your gambling. Except for someone who plans to stop then he can get the encouragement he needs from his past records  Grin
514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How your feels? on: February 29, 2024, 03:43:25 PM
I want to know how it feels among those of you who gamble using altcoins or bitcoins, basically the crypto you are using today has increased significantly, we know that in 2022-2023 coins that are small are not so valuable, and how does it feel today? Is there a little regret or do you not care because the money you lose in gambling is a necessity for you, so you don't care about the crypto you have lost in gambling for the past two years?

Despite the losses of the past, a gambler should understand that it is such way that in the future the accumulation of the losses will be huge and doesn't have to regret it, afterall he had some winning of which if he kept those winnings up to this time then it will also amount to huge profit. So, no need of expressing any regret. If you are going into gambling then you should have it in mind that while you win you can also encounter some losses whether you gamble with minimal amount of your bankroll or you gamble hugely, the certainty is that there will be losses and profit.

Of course it is a risk taken to increase the worth of those coins through gambling and no gambler should begin to regret of not hodling because quite many was aware of this bull season coming gradually. However, it is a lesson to save some coins while alao gambling because this season will come again next for years but for now let those who have coins enjoy the ride.
515  Economy / Economics / Re: Beginner questions on: February 29, 2024, 12:03:59 PM

Maybe this sounds dumb, but does Bitcoin work the same as a normal share? If I invest in a real stock I probably get to keep my share even if the value is zero?

Does it work the same with Bitcoin shares as well?

Best Regards

I think it works the same way for both in the way I view it even though they have different mechanisms like bitcoin is stored in a wallet and the term is hodling. Yes if the value of bitcoin drops from its ATH, you will still have the unit of bitcoin you are hodling in your wallet though with reduced value just like you know of shares. Like if a company's share drops in value or price, those share holders still hold the amount of shares they bought and own with the company.

So the value for both access may depreciate as price fall and may appreciate as price increase but the units remain the same despite dropping or rising. For example if you have 2 btc in your wallet, it remains that way but with fluctuations of increase or decrease in the value but not in how many units that you have and that is how it is with company shares.
516  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you & friends thought of engaging on any unfamiliar activity for gambling on: February 29, 2024, 10:27:02 AM

So only us (friends knows what we are doing and that there is a stake in the gaming).

If you lock yourself inside an enclosed place that people can only hear voices but won't see the physical activities going on there then they would not know about that but if you are outside of course people will see when you exchange money. But it is not a crime to gamble in an open place in my country, it only the morality of it that restrict people sometimes. However, many still don't care about who is around if they want to gamble, like in small football match with like three or five players from each side, they decide to gamble without any secrecy in it.

I and my friends way back have gambled in so many ways that no one will know that we are gambling only if there was disagreement that led to making of noise. I could remember we bet more on football games. This is because when I was young, I love playing football a lot, and I also have friends that loves playing football. In the evening we meet on the field and play football, which became part of our daily routine.

Yes this is almost the same thing I'm talking about. Usually guys gamble a lot using playing of football among themselves, chosing their own team and staking on it. Sometimes, it is even done or organised as tournament and prices are given to winners. It is fun to be part of this and I also remember I was part of it too.

517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Future of Gambling on: February 29, 2024, 08:50:59 AM
Just like in offline gambling where friends will wait to go in cluster with friends to go do analysis and have some deliberations on their games, VR technology and more modern creation is expected for gambling to get to that height were friends will be in poker table catching gambling fun but while physically in their homes doing other businesses. The future of gambling is going to be diversionary where you can be represented especially in a table game as if you are there physically like in offline gambling but you are actually physically some where else.
518  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wars never start becouse attacker have bad attentions idelogy on: February 28, 2024, 10:32:40 PM
Wars happen for different reasons and those reasons that caused WW 1 and 2 that caused so much hate in the world and Hitler became one of the most talked about, but whatever reason that caused the war might not be the same to the reasons war can come up now.

However, there are basic factors that can cause war and that includes: Boundary, Show of Supremacy and more. Like we know the war between Israel and Palestine which we could also trace to boundary and that is now crippling in show of supremacy between the two and their different blocs making solidarity which can also cause more trouble .
519  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Recent dollar price. A good one? on: February 28, 2024, 05:30:32 PM
You see though the rate of dollar dun still come down,  but things for we country nor still free come down forus. Because I remember say if you go market  dem go they tell you say so, so product dun add price over night way dollar dun rise we way they the field of earning in dollars understand say, yh dollar dun really increase. But now dollar price dun calm down small now cost of things still dey as e dey.

You get point there my brother. The government na only one way traffic. As them don succeed with their temporal measure to put fear on the BDC people , dem no fit use that way deal with business people wey still dey sell their market at exorbitant rate. Them dey sell old stock with dollar rate at 1,850 and as price don drop, trust Nigerians not to revert back to status quo.

Well me I no see this exchange rate dropping as we dey think because nothing structural going on in the economy if not palliative.

Ban dollar cash transactions to save naira, operator tells Tinubu

https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/ban-dollar-cash-transactions-to-save-naira-operator-tells-tinubu/%3famp

We see this headline today.... Na the point be that because how will this be possible to ban dollar cash transactions wey be say the country depends on importation. This na the reality of the economy and the reason wey make exchange rate dey high because business people has to import and so they must have to change Naira to dollar even at high rate. Na demand and supply dey push the exchange rate simple. Make government stop to dey chase shadow and begin build structures wey go help bring back companies wey don run comot naija.
