521  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to motivate womens to use Bitcoin? on: September 15, 2015, 12:32:17 AM
Don’t get me wrong, but motivation must come from the inside, you cannot motivate anyone, people motivate themselves.

On topic, When bitcoin price explodes everyone will want to get in including women.

It's always the same good ol story. People want flashy things, so they will wait for the Bitcoin price to get flashy again. Well, good luck, but they could have been here already getting ahead of the pack, but people only like to be on the winning team only when its clearly winning.
522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mainstream Adoption on: September 15, 2015, 12:30:51 AM
Adoption won't boom until you get people paid in bitcoin. Until then, all you'll see is merchants rarely accept bitcoin and instantly transfer it to fiat.
This, and unfortunately some of the business end up not accepting Bitcoin, or at least go from Bitcoin exclusive to accepting fiat again, for example amagimetals.com was bitcoin only but backpedaled as it seems not enough people was using it. We need more time.
523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you ever attended a bitcoin meetup? on: September 15, 2015, 12:28:21 AM
I don't know anyone in real life that would be interested in coming with me basically because I have never talked about Bitcoin to anyone in real life in a meaningful way, barely mentioned it because let's face it, most people are ready to deal with it, too advanced. So im just not willing to go alone knowing no one.
524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: lol: blockchain - yes; bitcoin - no on: August 06, 2015, 12:50:04 AM
The day I wake up and I can look at reddit for news without seeing news of a bank saying how cool the blockchain is but not mentioning Bitcoin, that will be a good one.
525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 10k when? on: August 06, 2015, 12:01:18 AM
and with sidechain linked to hard asset (bitcoin address) ... banks will not able to shit the "stress test".  Roll Eyes
that's why i talk about fondamental restored ...

everyone keeps talking about the side chain..

can you explain where I can find this sidechain? is it a option of some sort on the blockchain or bitcoin wallet im not looking at? or is this something discussed being built?

http://techcrunch.com/2015/06/13/down-the-blockchain-rabbit-hole/

Read this. They are still not operative, you will have to wait. Also google blockstream and lightning network, you need to do some research yourself.
526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anybody know of a chart with Gox influence removed? on: August 05, 2015, 11:45:02 PM
It's impossible to know what % of money was due MtGox'ing bot and whatnot and what % was legit bull pressure. In any case the big pump helped putting Bitcoin on the map and on mainstream news, thanks to it im here now and learned enough about BTC to be here for the very long term.
527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safety awareness of bitcoin users on: August 05, 2015, 11:40:33 PM
ok, i filled it out, hope you get the data you need.

one thing though, since you are studying criminal justice, you should consider this;

you should mention something about ponzis and other fraudulent investments. many lose btc to these, and due to the unregulated nature of the btc network, this may continue to be a threat for a long time. I realize people lose fiat the same way all the time, but the relative anonymity and irreversibility of btc transactions make these scams particularly attractive when done using btc. Its a HUGE security concern, just like in the old fashioned fiat world... maybe worse here in btc-land

People will have to learn to take care of their own money. I guess businesses will arise where they act as something to count on in case of a scam, like an insurance policy against scams or something along the lines.
528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New virus created that can completely wreck Apple computers on: August 05, 2015, 10:52:00 PM
First infected hard drives, and now this. The attack vector is changing:

New virus created that can completely wreck Apple computers

The future, with all the smart homes, can be very interesting. You screw in a light bulb and it hacks your door lock.

Thats why im never going to move to a "smart house" or install smart technology. Sometimes tech advancements aren't that good, it's like cars, driving a manual is just more rewarding most of the time. Not gonna lie tho auto is comfortable as hell if you are feeling lazy.
Anyway, smart houses will be good when the software is open source, then i'll trust it.
529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best alternative to blockchain.info? on: August 05, 2015, 10:48:14 PM
I actually love the design of blockchain.info, the colors and layout is just perfect. Can anyone pretty please code a clone that will not screw up like the actual blockchain.info that looks the same?
530  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why did the icons change from colourful to black? on: August 05, 2015, 10:40:33 PM
I've noticed the icons went only black basically, they look slim and simple, but I miss the kinda goofy design with the cute colourful icons lol. I also liked the green "V" check marks as confirmed... i just wonder who and how did this design took part to replace the old design.
Will we have different skins for the program in the future?

PS: In linux it seems they are blue but in windows they look black for some reason. With that blue color it looks pretty cool.
531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banks were supposed to be frightened of Bitcoin on: August 05, 2015, 10:37:26 PM
If banks really adopt blockchain technology in their system, their customers (non bitcoin user) would think that the technology is really helpful for them. Well actually I'm not really sure if the blockchain technology can working for bank or not, but seems it will attract people and they will think that bitcoin adopt blockchain from banks, since they have no idea about bitcoin before.

Yes the technology can work in a centralized way where only banks have a say on what goes there and who sees the ledger, but once people realize using the real thing (Bitcoin) is better, they will disregard those "bank blockchains" and use the global Bitcoin blockchain which is infinite times more secure.
Using 'real thing' has its problems, there is possibility of corruption or block alternation in open network. Also possibility of double spending because confirmation times can't be lowered due to security problems.
In closed environment these problems will be gone and system could be working even faster.

Lol, what do you mean with corruption? How many transactions have been corrupted since Bitcoin started? I can't think of a single transaction that ever got stuck corrupted in the blockchain. Eventually all transactions end up being confirmed and processed, they have to by design... double spending hasn't been a problem for ages.
532  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Blockchain! They steal me there my firsts bitcoin :P on: August 05, 2015, 10:35:09 PM
After seeing how they screwed up showing uncofirmed transactions as confirmed etc i would first of all use another block explorer and second move funds to an actual wallet like electrum.
533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The MOST COMPREHENSIVE LIST of potential Satoshi candidates on: August 05, 2015, 10:30:24 PM
One of my favourite candidates has always ben Jim McCoy. He has everything that it takes to be him. Here is him talking about a primitive decentralized cryptocurrency in year 2000

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r76WIdqjw4

David Irvine is also a good candidate, he is pretty much a genius after i've spend some time learning about the Maidsafe project and the project is older than Bitcoin.

Of course Nick is always a potential candidate as well..
534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Kinds of Bitcoin Courses Would You Like to See? on: August 05, 2015, 01:22:02 AM
I'd like to see children taught about bitcoin at school from as young an age as possible. We need to educate the younger generations as it's maybe too late for stubborn, older people in positions of power etc.
I don't know how possible it is but I'd like to see children taught about bitcoin maybe within the next 10 years.

This I agree with completely.  We should be teaching them about money... rather interesting we don't.. probably because shit would hit the fan and well I don't know any teachers that actually understand money.

Gold standard? what?

Our money is backed by gold you tool.

and so on lol.

This is a good point, i would like to see kids being teached in how to profit from Bitcoin instead of having to tell their parents they want to put a google adsense account on their minecraft videos that they upload to youtube, or for their music or whatever. Kids will move millions in the future because they are so tech wiz at early ages. There are kids with youtube channels moving millions of dollars and streams on twitch too. Imagine if they could bypass all of that and get paid directly in BTC.
535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: lol: blockchain - yes; bitcoin - no on: August 05, 2015, 01:18:39 AM
This is the third story today by someone who asserts their brilliance by saying: "we are interested in blockchain; bitcoin not so much".  It is meant to show you are a bigshot if you can put forth another version of this over-used line.
Here is one: http://www.cityam.com/220231/why-i-chose-float-fintech-business-london

Here is another: c-touts-blockchain-tech-for-trade-finance/

It reminds me of the time an English man was explaining to his son on an airplane that: 'it is the wings that makes the airplane fly'.  I immediately thought - it's the fucking engine that makes it fly - and the rudder too, and the cockpit too, and the pilot too.  Even the landing gear - although I'd have to argue the landing gear makes it fly again.

There isn't such thing as Bitcoin or blockchain.  Bitcoin includes a blockchain and a bunch of other stuff. Go ahead, try to make your blockchain without some bitcoin behind it.  Let's see where that will get you.

People need to quit showing how smart they are by expressing their keen interest in the 'blockchain' while at the same time saying 'bitcoin' isn't so interesting.  All this really does is show you don't understand cryptocurrency.  There is not blockchain without bitcoin.

The Blockchain is beautiful technology.  The Bitcoin network is the greatest example of this beautiful technology in action.  However not all applications of the Blockchain will be in the public sphere, for example Western Union might create a Blockchain where their 'Public' ledger is located within their country HQ nodes.  Banks might create a Blockchain for storing customers accounts, the nodes are located in each regional headquarters (or even in each bank branch!).

The point is there really are good applications for the blockchain outside the Bitcoin network.  We should not feel threatened by these, they are not applications as they are not competing with Bitcoin which is a cryptocurrency in the public domain.

Bitcoin is strong not only because of its network but because its technology has not been disproven.  I personally welcome any private companies investing in R&D in the blockchain as it only benefits us all in the end.

BTW your aeroplane analogy doesn't fly with me, the Bitcoin network could be represented by the the airports and flight routes which you didn't mention, the rest is all part of the Blockchain.

There's no need to invest ridiculous amount of money on your own blockchain if you want a different behavior, you just use side-chains once properly implemented so everything stays within the Bitcoin security.

where exactly are the ridiculous amounts of money being spent?  a bank can implement their own blockchain by deploying a server in each region.  they can mine with the server CPU because it is not an arms race to get more hashing power.  with this small Blockchain network they can store all customers transactions in a decentralized and secure fashion.  Remember the 51% attack is based on a percent of hashing power, all bank nodes can mine on CPUs to secure the network like we once did.

I think too many people are fixated on the Bitcoin Blockchain as the solution for everything.  For internal applications where there is no hashing power arms race, creating a new network is a perfectly good application of the technology.

Having centralized blockchains is indeed an improvement over what banks have now, but make no mistake, being part of a global decentralized blockchain (bitcoins one aka the best) is even better. Andreas explains it in this video at about the end:

536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tons of dust transactions from address "1mtgox..." what is this? on: August 05, 2015, 01:14:35 AM
https://blockchain.info/address/1mtgoxNrDZgrs6zP1MdEToSNTAeeeU2VH

Anyone saw this too? seems like a serious spam attack, it doesn't stop showing up new transactions.
537  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Karpeles arrest and bitcoin's social stigma. on: August 05, 2015, 01:03:46 AM
There are enough libertarians out there to drive Bitcoin to the moon, if that's a problem.
Anyway, I don't think it's a problem in terms of mainstream adoption. All new technologies have been used to do bad things at the early days, it will not surpass the positives.
538  Economy / Speculation / Re: 8600 btc being offered up for sale at $5.25 on: August 05, 2015, 12:52:49 AM
Lol, I love all those pumps from old threads. It really puts things into perspective doesn't it. This one is one of my favourites

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27348.0

How much of an idiot this guy must look like by now? feels bad for him Sad
What's a worse feeling than not being there? Being there and realizing your sold a fortune for peanuts year later.

8600@$5.25 is $45,150,00.
My guess is 95% of this forum would gladly step into that "idiot's" shoes, at least as far as money's concerned.

Indeed, 45 grand is a lot of money, but think about it, 8600@280 (current price) is 2.408.000, thats retirement money.
And that's current price, imagine if he sold at anything higher than that, if he waited he could have made almost 10 million dollars! crazy.
He should have sold 50% if he was panicking, never sold all of your BTC!
539  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining without an electricity limit on: August 05, 2015, 12:35:56 AM
Hello I'm pretty new to the Bitcoin scene. I decided to get involved after realizing that I could mine without worries of an electricity bill. So my question is for a person I my situation just starting and not having an excess of money what hardware/software would I need to get set up. I browsed multiple sites online and they all point to having some expensive hardware specifically designed for mining bitcoins. My limitation at this point is funds. So how would I start out and work my way up?  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Well, then you are lucky if your bills are free, any decent hardware miner will do, eventually you should move to Antminers, they are nice in size and you could start stacking it up.

The more you make the more you will make. It will be like playing Bitcoin Billonaire. Go to mining section for a more specific reply tho.

540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Science have proved that we are criminals rather than libertarians. on: August 05, 2015, 12:30:59 AM
This is a really dumb and stretched out argument to make. It's like being on 1991 and saying the internet is for criminals only, because back in the day only hackers and people doing shady business was wit enough to use it frequently. Again, what an idiot. What can you expect? Ignore them.
