521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase is overstepping the bounds we should give it regarding Bitcoin XT on: November 07, 2015, 05:40:59 PM

BitPay is also a commerce processor, they are essentially equivalent to Coinbase. I don't even know why Blockchain is there and why they are relevant. Based on BitPay's signature being first I'd gamble they wrote the letter.

I have had it with Coinbase. They are already on my blacklist. If anyone from Coinbase is reading (and I'm sure you are), I will never use your service again and I shall forbid any close contact to do so either. Do you want to ruin your business? Because this is how it starts. Coinbase has lose all credibility from now on and whatever their CEO says should be disregarded.

I don't plan to use them anymore where I can avoid it. This is how you fuck up Bitcoin, by starting to get involved in major development issues as if you're a company lobbying the US government. We don't want that shit, that's centralisation.
522  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Silver Wallets - A New Kind of Physical Storage [MEGA SALE!] on: November 07, 2015, 05:29:15 PM
We made that decision well before Design 3. Silver Wallets is going to step up their game very soon.

Have fun becoming the new Casascius. Wink I'll just sit here holding on to my Design 1 w/ Gold Trim, hehe...

I like your coins a lot more than anything that's currently out there, though. Beautiful design, especially on the gold trim coins. Much more aesthetically pleasing than the brass coins and copper coins I've seen, and even other silver coins.
523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Coinbase is overstepping the bounds we should give it regarding Bitcoin XT on: November 07, 2015, 05:25:36 PM
We should not be allowing a private corporation to try to convince us to move over to Bitcoin XT, something which they are saying entirely for their own benefit - an increase in the amount of transactions would obviously benefit them ignoring everything else, they are for commerce. But it ignores all the other arguments against (and for it as well!) it as they are only pumping it for their own benefit. And now the Bitcoin community, especially on reddit, has descending into circlejerking against theymos and as an implication of this are now circlejerking all over Bitcoin XT and supporting Coinbase here. We have given a private corporation too much power.

Not to mention that the discussion of Bitcoin XT wasn't even banned, Coinbase overstepping these bounds and pumping Bitcoin XT was. Jesus, guys.
524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is happening with deleted btc wallets? on: November 07, 2015, 05:17:16 PM
They're gone.

We can always increase how much you can divide bitcoins by quite easily, though, and it's quite possible wallets including Bitcoin Core could change to have a smaller unit like mBTC or satoshi become the main unit if we ever go that far.
525  Other / Off-topic / Re: The #1 Bitcoin Conspiracy Barn on: November 07, 2015, 05:16:11 PM
Man, the destruction here is unreal.

I'm not seeing much proof that actually definitely disproves all the proof against you at this point man, so while you're probably not the OP, you're definitely the alt of Tymer.
526  Other / Meta / Re: How to check post quality? on: November 07, 2015, 05:00:52 PM
Okay, here's the simplest thing I use to see if a poster is of decent quality. Not having one of these points in one of your posts doesn't make you a bad poster, but if it's continuous then it's bad:

1. Are their posts longer than 1 line? Of course lines are varying lengths depending on screen size. My screen is quite long so usually I class about 80% of a line on my screen as "1 line". If their posts usually aren't, they're probably just spam.

2. Do they contribute to discourse in the thread? As in, do they actually add points or is it just stuff like "+1" or "I agree"? If not, it's probably just spam.

That's it.
527  Economy / Gambling / Re: Cloudbet.com - bitcoin sportsbook and casino | high stakes LIVE NFL and NCAA on: November 07, 2015, 04:42:50 PM
Affiliate panel gives me "Error withdrawing funds. Reason: #".

Can you get this fixed? A little bit annoying. Especially with about $100 sitting in there.

I just got a response to my email about this telling me that in my deposit history I have a deposit with less than 3 confirmations and therefore I can't withdraw until then.

...what? I have never deposited to Cloudbet, I'm just an affiliate.

Edit: Apparently this is being looked into so I'm satisfied.
528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to "wash" your coins on: November 07, 2015, 02:47:46 PM
Why do you want to wash your coins, is the next question...

its always traceable

It's not wholly traceable if you use a mixer that actually works properly. The only thing that could be gathered from your transactions from the address you send from is that you did actually mix your coins, if someone is able to identify it as being obviously mixed.
529  Other / Meta / Re: theymos threatening to ban the biggest business in bitcoin on: November 07, 2015, 02:04:06 PM
Brigading covers things like spam downvoting someone for trying to state their opinion.

This whole situation is just ridiculous and blown out of proportions. Squabbling like little children. Brigading. Insulting. Circlejerking.

Jesus.

Oh and just for public knowledge, we all know how biased LitecoinGuy is in this topic, maybe his Moderator position in forum.bitcoin.com is affecting his biased opinions?

They have a section on cryptoanarchy. They literally have a section on cryptoanarchy.

I'm sorry, it's so obvious that we're going to be seeing brigading, though that goes both ways.

532  Economy / Gambling / Re: Overview of Popular Bitcoin Gambling Websites [Being brought Up-to-date] on: November 07, 2015, 01:22:40 PM
Here it is.

- Increased PrimeDice's Features to an A-.
- Increased PrimeDice's Overall to an A+ (first gambling site to get it!)
- Renamed CasinoBitco.in to BitcoinRush.
- Decreased BitcoinRush's Trustworthiness to an A due to a bit of riff-raff regarding the advertising of house edge on one of their games.
- Unable to accurately review AnoniBet for now due to a country block.
- Fixed Betcoin Network link. -> https://goo.gl/pFz97Y
- Increased FortuneJack's Trustworthiness to an A- due to age. I will be further reviewing their other scores and it's likely they will move up to A- overall.
- Fixed all page lengths.

Please point out anything I haven't yet done, or anything broken.

There are further reviews to be made as I do not feel the list is wholly accurate yet. It is still a tiny bit old.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is their any safe methods to gamble? on: November 07, 2015, 01:01:13 PM
Gambling by definition has risk, so there's not really any safe method. The safest thing you can get is the lowest house edge you can get, or playing odds on esports betting for a +EV if you think you're that good, or matched betting.
534  Other / Meta / Re: The Discourse Paradox on: November 07, 2015, 12:03:32 PM
So quality equals quantity now? I can easily put up some filler sentences if it helps your perception of my post as contributing to the discussion.
Example of such posts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=262578;sa=showPosts None of his posts are single liner but most are incomprehensible anyway. And BTW this recommendation can easily be overcome by members posting only in Bimba word game and such threads.

Actually his posts are usually on-topic IMHO, even though his English is pretty poor.

Yes. I'm aware there are ways around this. I would appreciate hearing any perfect solutions as it's quite tough to come up with them. If people truly make incomprehensible, long posts, I'm sure they will be banned. This just serves to reduce the amount of people who spam for signature ads in the first place.
True, but this is IMHO something the campaign has to enforce, not the forum. I'm starting to feel hilarious's idea to ban YoBit and secondstrade was not that bad at all.
Some limitations this rule will have if it comes in effect: ChartBuddy wouldn't be able to post, some of the people with their own signatures who discuss on Wall observer thread and Memespeculation with only pictures will be having trouble, and if you start making it rank based, there will be an huge influx in buying of accounts.

Make an image count for x words, or remove the limit for having an image in there, or ChartBuddy could adjust his post slightly to get around with it. It's actually worth bringing up here that of course you can get around this by just posting the minimum, but here it brings it from an arbitrary and loosely-defined minimum to a solid minimum where it's especially obvious if someone is spamming. So not only will it reduce it by raising the limit, it will also make it easier to catch those just posting bad discourse.

There's already a lot of account buying, signatures are rank-based. I also never mentioned making it rank-based, I want it equally applied.

shorena: This post also acts as a reply to you Smiley
535  Economy / Economics / Re: How to save money. on: November 07, 2015, 12:00:42 PM
I love reading stories of software engineers who make 6 figures yet you see on all these news outlets that even saving 5% of their salary is impossible and oh noes we're doomed for retirement!1111!!11one!!!

You can live on $20k a year if you're frugal, in a decently low cost of living area and smart. Even in higher COL areas $30k-40k will get you by. There is no reason you can't save say 50% of your salary on a $100k salary easily, if you can't live on $50k/year (after tax) you need to re-evaluate how you actually live.
536  Other / Off-topic / Re: The #1 Bitcoin Conspiracy Barn on: November 07, 2015, 11:56:44 AM
The dates on that post are wrong

I don't understand your logic here. What, did someone hack into the forum to change the dates?

which is not my real adress, but a friend of mines who gave up on bitcoins long ago.

Oh, come on dude...we hear this all the time and it's just such a lame excuse.

538  Other / Meta / Re: The Discourse Paradox on: November 07, 2015, 11:34:33 AM
Although one would have to be very careful with the parameters. This could easily hurt people who are trying to have legit conversations with someone.

Indeed, the parameters would have to be carefully decided upon. Personally I think it should be used at all ranks, but that's just me as I think that the low level of discourse can come from any rank especially with account sales.

I like this idea, though I can think of a problem or two with it. While it's unlikely to happen, if the balance is incorrect it could begin to affect service owners who's posts aren't always long or high quality. These users don't tend to wear paid signatures, though could end up getting punished for it.
Also, then there's the argument of 'does the length of post equate to the quality?'. A user could create posts which are low in length and helpful, though they would still be 'punished'* for making such posts by the system.
*I put punished in quotes due to it not really being a punishment, more of a restriction. However, some users could see it as such and therefore stop doing said helpful posts.

Certainly something must be done about such posts however, it's obvious they are simply posting for the money and have no intention to help the conversation in any way.

They could start bundling their posts together, though I don't think it would affect them as badly as you think (unless they really have to reply to more than x people per z hours and they are extremely fast at doing so). And no, the length of the post does not always equate to the quality, but a post that is longer in length usually forms more of a valid argument than one made just to cramp posts in. And of course, low length posts would still be fine, the idea is that if you did make x amount of <y word posts in z amount of hours, you would be unable to make posts of less than y words for a little bit. You could still actually post.

i like this idea a lot better; disallowing users to make posts that are below a certain word count, i feel, would be a tad too limiting on their ability to type out their thoughts on whatever discussion may be taking place. instead, i feel that adjusting the time required between posts (360 seconds for newbies by default, decreases as activity is accrued) based on the word counts of a user's recent post  history (not counting words included within quote brackets) might be an effective tool against spam. that value, if it were editable to an extent by moderators, could also effectively serve as a warning against people who are getting close to a ban as well.

I think your idea is good as well, that could definitely be used to stop posts with low levels of discourse.

There would also need to be some exceptions to ensure moderators who move posts and leave a "moved" post don't get punished. Wink

Look, it's obvious why any comments made by theymos on this matter are downvoted quickly. The Bitcoin community unfortunately has a large quantity of cryptoanarchists and anarchists in general who believe that the global financial system is going to collapse in 28 days and that if you delete anything you are clearly just part of the NSA and trying to implement censorship. And then it just descends into circlejerking.

As always...

540  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Honey Caramels on: November 07, 2015, 11:21:29 AM
How do i get sure that this is not just boiled sugar to form the caramels. Just ate some caramels from a local store but realized it was like 80% sugar. But if its from honey, then In would want some. Thank you

Bees Brothers have been selling these honey caramels for a looong time and they're extremely trusted. Check their website, too, I remember their website having pictures of them extracting the honey, tips on how to beekeep, etc. Also, I've had some, they're excellent Smiley (I had some raspberry ones, and I think I got some orange blossom ones as a bonus too!)
