521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: December 07, 2014, 11:18:55 PM
Promotions in Crypto Kingdom
His Grace, The Bishop has been promoted to Marquess (1510). "David has been Our Majesty's faithful companion for 110 years, from the first year of our reign. Promoting him to Marquess is to show how not only gaining riches (blunt referral to the recent Marquess promotion) are a way to the highest levels - giving the riches away can also work. The Bishop has donated most of his wealth to the Church, which we regard in high esteem."
Disturbed by this bittersweet situation, i will spend the morning in retirement on a small private altar in Notre Dame d'Armagnac and will deposit a small donation of 1 million moneritos to the Church in behalf of the King, to be used on charities or what the Church sees fit.
I am humbled by the appointment His Majesty is granting the servitor of God. My giving away is nothing compared to the bestowal you are honouring me. I will do my best to further encourage piety and good deeds among our fellow citizen and newcomers alike. This present of moneretoj and gold by our newes Earl will be put to good use in this exact manner. Earl Paulson, it is my pleasure to welcome you such a namong those of noble blood, and noble mind.
522  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HyperStake Development Journal (HDJ) on: December 07, 2014, 09:40:10 PM
You guys love to talk... but none of your bolt-ons have added value to the coin.
You remember this tagline we keep mentionning? HYP is an ex-pe-ri-ment.
Experiments are not meant to bring monetary value (if they do, so much the better, but that's all). And so far, most of what we experimented have not been done before us. So HYP is already a success. Even you admitted it, and compared to other high-PoS, we certainly pushed the enveloppe in terms of community and innovations (most advanced coin control, poolstaking, themable wallets, adaptative difficulty, staking tools, live community, retribution scheme... all of this being delivered and not just promises - let alone what we are working on and do not publicise before release).

So, what else to ask? Oh, yes, money. Look for short-term scamcoins on Bittrex then. To each its own, and us is experimenting.

I have a question, though: since you are a trader, you shall know that developers have no influence on price, right? So why do you even ask?
(update: most NXT's assets are a fail, exactly like most altcoins - plus, the core idea behind HYP is to push PoS to its limit - which is better done with a platform that we know)

New entries in the HyperStake Development Journal (HDJ):

Great work David! How much do you think difficulty and weight will be affected by?
If not default: negligeable. If default: maybe 30% of reduction once a large enough amount of people update, which will probably take quite some time, considering we don't have any built-in new version notification system (presstab, something to consider).
524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 6 Themes on: December 07, 2014, 06:55:57 PM
New entries in the HyperStake Development Journal (HDJ):
525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Feature: disablestake if X on: December 07, 2014, 06:41:24 PM
Feature: disablestake if X

Issue: Difficulty is a roller-coaster, with up to 50% volatility and a noticeable unpredictability. I believe this reduces confidence in HyperStake.
Solution: The solution presstab just finished coding is this: thanks to a RPC call (later, it could be a checkbox option), one can deactivate staking (even if wallet is unlocked or unlocked for mint) once the difficulty reaches a certain treshold. It does cost the holder some profit (by delaying it) so this is not "good" for the staker, but in exchange, it reduces the network difficulty by zeroing this address's weight and thus reducing the overall network weight, hence the diff. So, it is a "lose-win" solution, bad for the individual, but good for the network. This is why it is a voluntary action and it only makes sense to activate it for large holders (if you are not a large holder, stop staking would have a negligeable impact on diff, whilst still having a major impact on you).
Ways for improvement: checkbox activation, conditional activation according to history of network weight, conditional activation according to percentage of total coins in one address, moving from opt-in to opt-out (i.e. activated by default), lowerstake instead of disablestake.
Notes: other usecases are possible (like staking only above a certain diff to protect against attack), but may be incompatible with the ways for improvements.
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Features galore! on: December 07, 2014, 06:30:54 PM
A list of things being considered, going on or already done. This list does not attempt to be exhaustive and was first written on the ANN.

  • Multisend (http://hyperstake.wikia.com/wiki/Multisend) (GUI not done yet)
  • Triggers (http://hyperstake.wikia.com/wiki/Triggers)
  • Fully functional in wallet block explorer and rich list
  • Automating HyperPool (HAT, HyperPool Automation Tool) (not before long)
  • RPC cointrol (allows coin control without a GUI)
  • Improving code by closing the gap between Bitcoin and HyperStake (Bitcoin => Peercoin => Novacoin => Bottlecaps => Mintcoin => XCurrency => Truckcoin => HyperStake)]
  • HyperWallet (webwallet, functional specifications done)
  • HyperOTC (automated OTC à la XCash)

  • HyperStats - gathering and analysing stats, maybe even a Gini index to promote the nice distribution of HYP and a presentation as outstanding as Hans Rosling's
  • New OP with a multi-column appearance
  • Tipbot for reddit and possibly Twitter and Facebook
  • [speculative] automated transactions
  • [speculative] transaction messages
  • disablestake if X, to reduce diff volatility

527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Monero Community FAQ on: December 07, 2014, 01:34:07 PM
openalias is working with simplewallet.
I must have missed that Missive  Wink

How do I create an alias for my XMR address?
It was never mentionned in a missive that it worked with simplewallet Smiley
Regarding the favourite DNS registrar, I swear exclusively by Gandi.net and not (only) because they are French. Because the founders are longtime active proponents of a libre Internet and the new acquirer follows the same ideals. Plus their No Bullshit policy and it this is not enough, read this article about why Gandi matters.
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: December 06, 2014, 10:35:20 PM
C for legacy code (most of the code at the moment)
That is a misconception, which unfortunately we helped spread earlier in the project when we didn't really understand the code base.
I corrected my post, thanks.

Getting old blows.
..What is the alternative?  ...
Staying young would be preferable. Tongue
Or making chronological age irrelevant.
Good to see someone recognized.
mr_random recognised it before me, on this very thread Smiley
The virtues of inflation
People who say you can't slow down emission because it looks like a scam... well in a few years 99% of all the currency will be emitted, how will that look like to newcomers (a scam?)

To be fair our tail mining is designed to be small too (like bitcoin after a few halvings but before no subsidy), so until the things are more clear from experience or there is stronger research to support an existential need for more radical changes, we are only slightly better off. Still, at least we have recognized some aspect of the potential failure mode and eliminated it.
Something we did not address is the lack of incentive to maintain full nodes, as Nicolas Courtois mentionned it for Bitcoin. For the moment, there is enough good will, but what if tomorrow there was not?
Main question: are the dev's paid?
Your question prompted me to add a new entry in the FAQ: are the devs paid?
What is the best programming language to learn for Monero?

I have a lot of time on my hands and much motivation.
So far, C and C++. C for legacy code (most of the code at the moment) (read smooth below), C++ for refactoring (which will take time). FYI, we are also using Go, but very sparsely (mostly URS, for the moment) and Qt is being used for the GUI wallet. But priority is definitely C and C++.

Yes, I know - throw your tomatoes and boo me for suggesting an exploitation of our carnal pleasures, but there it is.
Fact: sex drives economy (major French IT company free.fr? Started with sex money. Wikipedia? Started with sex money. High-stress platform? Porn sites, etc.) So no problem for me Smiley

I've watched Noble go through 3 or 4 of them trying to do a POS change without changing Chains and all have failed. so I don't think it's that easy to find a good one. And from what I've seen here you guys have a great crew! I truly enjoy reading all of your posts.
I've been personally involved in finding dev for Noble turning PoS so I concur.
531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Monero Community FAQ on: December 06, 2014, 09:26:31 PM
BTW, I'd suggest reordering the FAQ somewhat so more basic questions about the coin are at the top, rather than more technical installing/using questions.  Ressources has one "s".
Please provide your suggested listing. Thanks for "resources".
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 6 Themes on: December 06, 2014, 08:45:52 PM
  • Continuing HyperDeck (iantunc, could you open a wikia entry?)

I'm finishing fine tuning it (lightmapping and this sort of things), then I will add some content (an advertising stuff) and probably some interactivity (a game component) and use it in promo purposes. I'll create an entry after adding content.
There are future plans about game development for mobile platforms (no in-app purchases with external payment systems allowed, but can be used to redirect traffic) and browser (can't wait for WebGL full power Smiley).
I'm also thinking of a separate branded twitter for aggregated industry news with trending hashtags (code name: HyperTeam) followed by further social media an Web 2.0 integration.
Good.

Any chance to have a Linux version or is this out of your control? I suppose we'll have to wait WebGL and you'll move to it ASAP)
Will the game allowed earning HYP (with an [ur=http://hyperstake.wikia.com/wiki/Endowment]Endowed[/url] wallet behind, of course)
Separately-branded Twitter: yes. HYP-based initiative should stand on their own feet... but only once there is enough traffic/interest to not cause a detrimental traffic dilution, so pick the right moment.

Glad to see this still going on! Also, if you need some devs, remember to use HyperJobs!

There are probably other things I am forgetting too.
FTFY Cheesy

Other things we are considering or doing:
  • Improving code by closing the gap between Bitcoin and HyperStake (Bitcoin => Peercoin => Novacoin => Bottlecaps => Mintcoin => XCurrency => Truckcoin => HyperStake)]
  • HyperWallet (webwallet, functional specifications done
  • HyperOTC (automated OTC à la XCash)

oh I would do just about anything for multisend right now... the one thing that is keeping me from completely set and forget.

Anything eh....?

What about learning c++ and adding into the code for us? Tongue

funny you should mention that... I have been looking at the code to see if it was possible for myself to mess with..
What about some tutorial on how a wallet is built? Targeted a complete newcomers like you. This could even be used for other coins. The will use the HyperStake base for learning how to create a new coin, so this would gives more visibility to HyperStake. Plus, I think we can safely say that code-wise, our wallet is pretty exemplary (and allejupa is making it even better) so HYP would be a great educational tool.
Billotronic, I think you would be perfect for this, since you are a newcomer to this (presstab, ssta or allejupa could check your writing).

you fan of XMR want XRM to be a succes do the same as me and follow twitter, like facebook sign in the forum and show the world you using and support Monero.

^ Good advice
I just created an account and made my first post:

So you're looking for a good developer and you have a way to compensate them if they are found?
We do.
It shouldn't be that hard to find a developer looking for work.
To find a dev is easy. To find a reliable dev for this work is not. But we keep trying. Hard Smiley

Since the fraud revelation linked in this post, the CryptoNote.org whitepaper has 404'd (part of the fraud was that this document was digitally signed with an obviously-wrong-by-multiple-years timestamp, so I guess that's why..). Do you or anyone have a link to a citable document describing their ring signature scheme? –  Andrew Poelstra Aug 25 at 15:27
?
To an outsider looking in that part of the thread looks like an accusation is unanswered. I don't have write permission there so maybe you want to drop this link as a answer to his request?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg9752751#msg9752751

From what I've read there as a whole I'd say he is a good supporter of this coin. That article is a great read. Wish I was younger and could soak this stuff up like I used to. Getting old blows. Smiley
Andrew is Andytoshi Smiley Hel self-taught cryptography so you could also Smiley
Regarding the cryptonote part, this is a different topic, unrelated to the list I posted above. What he mentionned is that Cryptonote delete the PDF and added a new, corrected one with the same URL to try to hide the fact, as smooth mentionned. I'll add a comment.

I'm confused? You mean the misspelled "developper". I'm obviously missing some thing here. Do you mean that post was an attempt to troll? And that is why no-one ever answered this

No, the general writing style, I recognized my writing style and then realised I forgot to properly fill my profile Smiley And, yes, I often mispell "developer", I did not even notice it, I4ll fix this, thanks.

Inflation kills this coin. Is not it clear?

...temporally.
The inflation doesn't last forever.

I'm not that in to Monero. Can anyone link to facts about the coin?
I have tried to google info about inflation but haven't found anything.

Is Monero "limited" like BTC, or does it have infinite "minting" of new coins?

Regarding infinite minting: this is both yes and no and is detailled in the OP
no, because the "regular emission" is 18.4 millions, so close to Bitcoin
yes, because we may implement a "tail emission", which is not present in Bitcoin. This tail emission would very small but also infinite. The point of this tail emission would be to provide an alternative to Satoshi's decision that "after BTC is fully mined, transaction fees will suffice to encourage continuous mining", something on which we disagree - hence tail emission.

Regarding "facts about the coin", I suggest you start by reading this:
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: December 05, 2014, 10:58:31 PM
If there was a proper funding framework in place this could be improved significantly.
As we (and fluffypony in particular), stated it, the issue is not funding (not now), but finding good enough developper and them familiarizing themselves with the code. More money won't make things evolve faster, at least for the coin.

Same thing for "code review, cryptography review": code review is being done as we speak, and cryptography review also - we exchange with our academic cryptographer on a litterally daily basis.

I did not know Lighthouse, seems interesting

sr: "stop trading, baby" ;-)
