Promotion Requirements

The Most Ancient promotions are done personally by the King, with the help of the Town Council (concerning the commoners). The things will change later but now they are as follows. This overrides what has been said in Rulebook 1.1:

L3 Freeman
- Every character starts the game as L3.

L4 Novice
- Mandatory requirement: to have a L4 house (18+ sqm). The houses are readily buyable from the King and realtors starting at 8 mil.
- The required 1,000 gold holding lifts you to L4 after a maximum of 30 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled. Any kind of activity in the game makes this happen sooner.
- Once you gain 1,500 gold, you will be promoted L4 at the earliest opportunity.

L5 Expert
- Mandatory requirement: to have a L5 house (27+ sqm). The houses are readily buyable from the King and realtors starting at 11 mil.
- The minimum 1,000 gold holding lifts you to L5 after a maximum of 70 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- The constant holding of 1,500 gold lifts you to L5 after a maximum of 30 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- Once you gain 4,000 gold, you will be promoted L5 at the earliest opportunity.
- To speed up the promotion to L5 level, the following are considered:
  * participating in gameplay
  * having a large house
  * buying of game assets
  * donating to good causes

L6 Master
- Mandatory requirement: to have a L6 house (45+ sqm).
- The constant holding of 1,500 gold lifts you to L6 after a maximum of 70 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- The constant holding of 4,000 gold lifts you to L6 after a maximum of 30 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- Once you gain 10,000 gold, you will be promoted L6 at the earliest opportunity.
- To speed up the promotion to L6 level, the following are considered:
  * participating in gameplay
  * having a large house
  * buying of game assets
  * donating to good causes

L7 Wizard
- This level is a special level that is now reserved for the Magus alone, and later on, to the distinguished artesans and such that command special skill and are not the type to be promoted Nobles, or other special cases. Typically L6 promotes directly to L9.

L8 Knight/Jungherr
- To get promoted to this level, you need to start the game with special noble qualities (a Monero core team member for instance, or King's relative, or other).
- Another way is to get Knighted by the King, which happens for example by being appointed in the Orders of the King, including the Order of Defence that is open for all who support 10 soldiers for the Army.
- The levels overlap such that L3-L5 are normally promoted L8, whereas L6 is directly promoted L9. L7's are not typically promoted at all but if they are, they may gain any of the noble titles directly.
- The house must be there, as always.

L9 Baron
- About 5% of the characters are designed to be Nobles. We currently have 36 PC and 155 NPC (servants and military) in the town. Of the PC's, 13/36 are nobles, but taking the NPCs, women and children into account, we are quite there in the target.
- Mandatory requirement: to have a L9 house (100+ sqm with 60%+ luxury).
- Mandatory requirement: to have modern clothes.
- The constant holding of 4,000 gold lifts you to L9 after a maximum of 70 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- The constant holding of 10,000 gold lifts you to L9 after a maximum of 30 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- Once you gain 30,000 gold, you will be promoted L9 at the earliest opportunity.
- To speed up the promotion to L9 level, the following are considered:
  * participating in gameplay
  * having a large house
  * buying of game assets
  * donating to good causes
- Since promotion to nobility brings great privileges, we the King seek to promote such characters that are kind and noble and beneficial to the game. Just recently Mr. Luigi was promoted L9 Baron directly from L5, even though he did not even have much gold (1,000), because he showed such industriousness in the game. Later on, having 4,000 or more gold becomes very rare among characters, so the nobles will increasingly be promoted based on their ingame prowess.

L10 Earl
- Mandatory requirement: to have a L10 house (200+ sqm with 100%+ luxury).
- Mandatory requirement: to have modern Noble clothes.
- Mandatory requirement: to have a retinue of Servants (more = better).
- The constant holding of 10,000 gold lifts you to L10 after a maximum of 70 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- The constant holding of 30,000 gold lifts you to L10 after a maximum of 30 years if the mandatory req's are fulfilled.
- Once you gain 100,000 gold, you will be promoted L10 at the earliest opportunity.

- There will be about one L10 Earl per two L9 Barons (1:2) in the game. Because not all can be promoted, the selection will be made based on the following qualities, among others:
  * participating in gameplay
  * administering the game world
  * helping the ones in lower levels
  * ownership of game assets
  * donating to good causes

When Economy era begins, it becomes increasingly difficult to gain 30 or 70 years of gametime, because they correspond to 12 and 28 months of real-time, respectively. At present the gold holdings "push" promotions to people, but in Economy there is so much less gold per PC (~100 compared to ~10,000 as of now) that it becomes rare to be promoted by gold anyway.

Bank has lent out all its funds so it's time to raise some more. This time we already know the structure and the range of interest rate, based on the long bond rate of 0.19% APR and the Series A: 1504-1554 issue of 0.28% APR.

Baron Choo wants to invest his newfound wealth responsibly without rocking the market (although his actions did raise the price of gold, land, TH stocks, GH stocks and Bank stocks already). He is therefore the backer of this loan issue, instead of plowing it all to the limited liquidity markets.

10 units are offered. One unit pays back 100 million in 1590 (2015-1-13). The Buy Me Now! price is 85 million, providing 15 million interest per unit. The reserve price is determined by Dr. Choo, who at 75 million is willing to buy all the bonds offered, at 76 million 9/10 of them etc. All subscribers pay the lowest amount, early bid beats late etc. (Buy Me Now! is just the highest bid that can be made, and it always wins, yet the price is the same as with other winning bidders.)

The bond auction will run 24 hours.

The Hypothecary Bank of CryptoTown, Lord Baron Jacket and His Majesty The King have joined forces and developed an immense 14-quadrat area in the Grand Hotel quarter. The development faces both Culture Square and the (unnamed) Main Street.

The Bank features wide and opulent carved wood staircases, 5-9 meter room heights, The Vault with a door visible to all entrants, a first-floor $$$$ restaurant with a gilded statue at entrance and high ambitions concerning food, directors' clubroom with balcony to the Culture Square in the top floor, and 150 square-meter luxury goods store with a streetcorner Champagne bar at the ground level. Outside below the roof at 16 m elevation are two golden inscriptions. Main Street side reads "Compound Interest is the Most" and Culture Square side reads "Powerful Force in the Universe".

The CryptoMuseum is a massive gallery of 16 rooms with 5 meter height and 28+ meter area each. There is also a parkside restaurant in the basement as well as shops to let. Lord Jacket is operating the museum for the amazement and education of all visitors.

The Garden Hotel Bank is a *** alternative to the upscale Grand Hotel, which it almost shares a wall with. Situated at the very heart of the densest-built area of the city, yet all 19 rooms of 15 sqm each are facing the peaceful park enclosed by buildings from all directions, shielding the noise and smells of the streets. The facade side of the building is used for shops to let and grand offices of His Majesty's ever-increasing staff.

We are satisfied that this grand development is finally ready. Taking more than a whole workday to plan, it was a great endeavor and time off from other duties. We want to point out that using the His Majesty regular fees of Architect Design = 30% and Inspection = 12 mil, the total bill payable by the 3 clients was 382,596,900 m. We say this not to brag, but to point out that per hour it is more than the minimum wage in the U.S., and the work can very well be done anywhere, and the learning curve is very steep. More architects are needed. Despite the efforts to have standard components, people want to have unique stuff and that is very real work. In total, 5,300,000,000 m have been spent in construction in the last 5 days. Quick calculation reveals that someone could make his/her living off of the architecture alone.

My deepest congratulations to His Excellency David for this yet another terrenal distinction, Earl Rhadamathus and Earl Jacket on this most excellent news. I'm humbled by my sudden appointment and will want to ensure Your Majesty that was nothing farther from my intention to demand it; my curious and inquisitive nature maybe made me ask about the King's Law more than what it was prudent, failing to understand that YM Will is always stronger than Peasants Law.

From now on i will try to elevate my behaviour, according of what is expected from a directly appointed servant of YM.

ANN: About the technical development of the online interactive version

Preface: As is typical of all important stuff written when you are tired and busy with many sorts of work, this announcement also was erased when the browser crashed. The current text does not have half the intricate detail I already had written, also it gives the impression that I am dogmatic. Too bad

The Beginning

- It was hoped for and considered realistic by multiple sources that the game could be playable online with no graphics in 3 weeks
- Sir Riccardo took it upon him to organize the development
- A 5-member professional team lead by sXpher was contracted, they had delivered work for Sir Riccardo in the past satisfactorily.
- After reading a 5-page feature spex, the rulebook, the thread, and the online databases, they promised to deliver a well-specified limited playable version in 4 weeks, and further that Versions 3 and 4 can be delivered on time also with the planned features.
- At this time the release date of V.2 was postponed by 3 weeks (to 1502) since 2 weeks had passed and the team needed 1 week more.
- Every time when I was in contact with the team, they told all is fine and no further input from me is needed.

Situation around the Confirmed Release Date of V.2: Ancients

- Even the testing time slot for a few hours before release had been given to me, but when the time came, I did not get the access. During the following 6 days (which end now to this announcement as things are now clear), the following things were found out.
- Backend components were well done and useful.
- The team had not understood how little functionality is spexed and needed, and the delay was partly because of doing wrong things, or right things too early, or too well.
- Version release management was totally blown - 1 day before everything is fine, even though there's nothing playable to show. This sudden finding was a great disappointment and stress for me.
- For this reason confidence of mine and Sir Riccardo to the project management of the team suffered greatly.
- Sir Riccardo took the lead in the project personally.

Our Decisions concerning the immediate future

- The development of V.2 will be finished. The current team is capable of doing it. The problems in communication and project management will be remedied as follows:
- Communication: sXpher will post to this thread 6 days a week. The posting need not be a technical development progress report every time, but they are also expected very frequently. Also he will immediately start to play the game actively and interact with players. In advance that some specification is needed from me, sXpher and Riccardo ask for it.
- Project Management: Sir Riccardo will take a more active role and is ultimately responsible of the release. No fixed date is given, since it is unclear how long exactly the finalizing takes, and the features are exactly the minimum ones already. Instead, Sir Riccardo will daily give the 25%-50%-75% confidence estimates for the release, which are much needed for me as the gamemaster.
- Much time and money has been wasted in failure to follow clear orders. It will not happen again.

Long-term considerations

- I am very positively surprised of the success of the game. Even though the number of players is far behind the target (target assumes 30 days online play already), the building activity and value of the gameworld are very robust. Price of gold is behind, but will surely rise when this birth pang is over.
- Game development will be modular, conducted by a small full-time developer team, so that each module is independent and can be released when it is ready, or saved for a later time. There will not be great versioning and preannounced release dates, which serve no purpose.

Services Pool Update


The Services Pool of the game is distributing a commendable 350 million per day. It was my intention to recalculate it this weekend, but it is so big that the recalculation would have taken a full day, which I could not spare. Therefore, we make a quick-fix by voting. The results of the votes will boost the winners' Service pool ratings, and the full recalculation will be postponed to the online version, for which the pool need to be reorganized anyway.

One of the original taverns in town when the Service Pool was opened. Located in the basement of the Royal Palace. Low, vaulted ceiling and whitewashed walls. Not much light. The service is very cultivated and the food comes from the Royal kitchen - hence the name. Here it is possible to meet tourists.

Set up in the beautiful d'Armagnac square on the back yard of the Cathedral, despite being in the ground floor, the restaurant is very airy with large windows to the south and west, and 4 m rooms. The chef and staff are veteran and the place is not noisy.

At the north end of the Town Hall, with unblocked view to the Cathedral and Central Square, this drink bar is the tourists' favorite. Many do not even know that the same immaculate food is served than in the restaurant.

A cozy place to enjoy your beer or a glass of wine, seeing all the old and beautiful buildings in the old centre - the Cathedral, the Town Hall and the Episcopal Palace.

The north end of the King's Park is the original middle-class residential area. Zechariah aims to make his own staff serve double-duty by opening a tavern with distinctive luxury and service. Eat your lunch in style and meet only the people that are not particular about the price.

The classic is The place in town to meet people and eat wonderful food in luxurious belle epoque surroundings, with unblocked views to the Main Street and all over Central Square, 4 m height. If you want more, I am sorry such does not exist in a month's journey's radius.

The ground level below the Restaurant is occupied by the original Drink Bar in town. Originally totally empty, it has recently gained a following among tourists due to its location, luxury, service and location.

The oldest Restaurant in town, the Monero House has been the hive of the Intelligentsia for decades. It almost feels that the Game is lead from there, instead of the various King and Town establishments. The Monero House is not large, but an impressive building with a 7x7 m wide, 6 m high restaurant, and a separate den, and even more separate Clubroom.

- The Priory House Restaurant $$$ / / 60% / South

Monks make and serve food in this pictoresque establishment just a few steps south from the Center and the d'Armagnac Square. From large windows there is a view to the Sir Riccardo haw, which hosts the second largest palace in town with 20 guestrooms.

This lobby restaurant has unparalleled magnificent surroundings. Entrance is from Main Street to a 9 m high Entrance Hall. 3 m wide opulent staircase takes you to the floor, with a 2 m high gilded figurine to the left. To the right you see another opulent staircase taking to the Bank itself. Among 5 m high pillars you can sit and enjoy foods that are not even graded yet (chef is 400k). There is also a sumptuous Cabinet with 3 m high windows to the street side, and even a first floor outdoor terrace directly on the corner of the Main Street and Culture Square.

Aimed to be the Chic-est place in town to show your wealth by sipping drinks. Conceptually 100% equal to GH Drink Bar in the other corner of the block, here you can view the Theatre, Violin Museum, and the soon-to-be-constructed other great buildings.

Zechariah is still working in the low room in his first Guesthouse right in the Jousting ground corner of the Noble Palace. He is conducting his grocery shopping from the downstairs grocery store owned by himself, and the King's department store is next door.
