Quick, scout out their customer base.   Market toward them.  They need help.
543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - Public message regarding alt chains on: October 15, 2011, 03:51:20 AM
I think if anything, the desire to back away from the situation at all, at the least until the coin itself is more established and grounded, would be very wise for any start up going into this field. I mean, may god help them with Bitcoin scammers alone, then all the alt currency shit, I am very surprised they are supporting any alt coin, but they are a global exchange, and I'm sure if SolidCoin stays on top of things, overtime, it will be in their exchange of course.

psy, I wouldn't expect them to answer your question seeing how loaded it is.

I do wonder what kind of question that is though, why should threats of attacks not be taken seriously around these parts if that were the case at all, which I am pretty sure it is not.

In kind of related links, Matthew N. Wright has an interview with the Coinabul founder coming up https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48022.msg573717#msg573717

Why would noagendamarket lie about being associated with RS?
Loose definition of the word association.

While you all ponder on what could possibly be going on, vote your favorite Alternate Currency to be used in the Crypto X Change here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48166.0  TeneBrix,  LiteCoin,  SolidCoin, and or  NameCoin

I think noagendamarket is an @ in #solidcoin.
I did not know that, but to me shouldn't matter that much in the sense that he does not run CryptoXChange fully as far as I know, and I had already known him to be more than just a Bitcoin enthusiast.  No doubt he was one of the people who would have been for Solidcoin exchange there, but overall that is looking like it is stopping.    I am pretty sure the guys will answer questions if asked, as long as it isn't harassment, they seem to want to be as open as possible.

Also, the user CryptoXChange and BitcoinMedia/noagendamarket are not the same person, so when I read that "We do not know any of the coin developers personally or well at all.", I took it as other than IRC or business discussions, they are not friends with SC/RS offline.

As someone who just happens to be noticing a lot of things about some of these elements here, I do not think Cryptoxhange is Coinhunter past whatever talks and business they were attempting to have together.   Did you by chance see this thread

I thought it was great.  Those people really are wasting the use of that domain name though.

552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [AUDIO] The online currency 'bitcoin' is a glimpse into the economic future on: October 14, 2011, 02:12:23 PM

Quote
Today, we look at a new and mysterious online currency called "bitcoin." Since its launch in 2009, it’s prompted many to imagine an alternative reality. In it, the economic establishment no longer controls the flow of money around the world. The currency is the brainchild of "Satoshi Nakamoto," who claims to be a 36-year-old Japanese computer programmer. Satoshi's real name and identity, however, remain unknown. Individuals can use the currency to buy a surprisingly wide range of products online -- from beef jerky to hotel rooms to illicit drugs. And in a little over two and a half years, its founder has managed to create nearly thirty-five million dollars of value.

In this week’s issue of the New Yorker, contributor Joshua Davis investigated bitcoin in “The Crypto-Currency.” He tells us about his search for the elusive genius behind this phenomenon, and what this currency says about our age of economic struggle.

554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: October 14, 2011, 01:57:33 PM
I have a design concept in mind, and would completely split the bounty if someone takes this idea and cleans it up.    Since the design of this currency is in a digital medium, I wonder if it was possible to have the coin itself by design be somewhat opaque.  Any system that is able to run litecoin most likely supports and image format that can be see through.  So the coin will have a silver hue and be able to see an L lightly, but the overall color would change based on where it is seen.  Default would be white silver.  In doing this design the coin can in fact be 'lite' even in a digital medium.

See it on black here http://imgur.com/7tVXn

ubuntu font here http://font.ubuntu.com/

litecoin.psd file here with a few background colors as well as you can see what levels of opacity I chose, because I did toy around with that http://www.mediafire.com/?01mwqdiyv01f8o3

Again, I am not good at getting the circle design done, I think you can see I just pulled a blank coin from google images search.   Also, if someone wants to run with this concept, my final look I think needs cleaned up, but I was going with as minimalist of a design as possible, so no frills were intended with the original concept, just in case someone takes this and runs with it.
555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Show on OnlyOneTV.com on: October 14, 2011, 06:36:35 AM
I do not think the public has had a successful piece on Bitcoin that had it in a positive light, I say, any publicity, is good publicity.  Smarter people will see through the bullshit, and those people then can decide if they want to try out the coin.
556  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Silk Road was the best thing that has ever happened to Bitcoins. on: October 14, 2011, 06:32:25 AM
Preach it sister  Cheesy

I would suggest taking the information from the post here http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/imoc0/using_silk_road/ and finding a way to drop things into 5 easy steps, make a landing page with five huge images on how to buy with Bitcoins or whatever.

Next step, is taking that information and putting it where it matters, in the hands of people who don't even usually use computers.    I would suggest creating that page with the easy steps, printing out hundreds of copies of the page, put said papers in public bathrooms, college bulletin boards, your local church, etc.

Three Bitcoins are greater than one FIAT, duh  Cheesy

Really good idea there though, something everyone on the forum could do.  I think it could be adjusted and made better, but the base idea of using the bills is good.

Something I just read from /r/Bitcoin http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/lac86/spreading_bitcoin_with_fiat_currency_this_could/ that actually make me remember this old ass thread, and how I think it could be resurrected and work in the below idea.   If anything, the below idea is awesome.

Spreading Bitcoin with FIAT Currency

Let's assume you have a few thousand Bitcoins and you want to use them to spread the idea of bitcoin, what would be the most effective to spread Bitcoin using that money?

You could put up large billboards or pay for a newspaper ad, but that's too local. You could make a hit YouTube video, but that's too random.

Enter FIAT <3 Bitcoin

Everywhere around the world, people with Bitcoin can easily help spread the word of Bitcoin by simply using a modified FIAT currency.
All you need is some plain old FIAT currency bills, a permanent marker,  and some spare Bitcoins that you would like to contribute to that cause.

Using Casascius Deterministic Wallet Generator (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34163.0;all) you create a new bitcoin address and convert the private key to Mini Private Key Format (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mini_private_key_format) and write it down on a bill stating that who ever uses this private key first gets the bitcoins associated with that private key.

The beauty of this method is that you can easily redeem the bitcoins after a while (2-4 weeks?) if you see they aren't spent yet, you could track new Bitcoin usĕrs and where they are coming from (geographically, and perhaps even more details if they are willing <facebook "Like"?>) if there was a site dedicated to converting the mini private keys (MPK Code/s from now, ok?) to bitcoins and špending them off (this could be combined with existing Bitcoin services, and the site operator would profit from affiliating to the services and getting them new customers).

559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin 2 victory! on: October 14, 2011, 04:43:15 AM
I still own a few sc though so thats my only contact with solidcoin and alt chains but litecoin seems to have a shot and community support so I might get some of those soon.

Good decision to move into alternative coins cautiously, I think people are still just wanting more trustworthy BTC/$$$ exchanges first.

I'll send you a Litecoin so you have something in your wallet if or when you get started up.  I am just an observer myself, but it is the first coin I have mined a bit for, just PM me your addy if you get one.
