the value of the ether in its functionality, the value of bitcoin in its popularity
This is true. BTC will keep dominating crypto because many investors are still betting on it without even realising the potential altcoins might have. But that is changing really fast and BTC is losing dominance. Maybe in a couple of years we can see ETH in pair with BTC.

Why ? Its too risky..always diversify your investment. Dont put your egg in one basket.
It depends. IF OP want to buy bitcoin, ether, monero ETC then he should go all in. If he want to try different approach then he should spread funds in lots cheap low cap altcoins which are few cents up to maximal value of half dollar. That's a terrible advice! Investing is risky, period! Investing in crypto is very risky, period! Investing in a single crypto coin is just silly, period!
So what are you doing here? I'm taking risks! But definitively not betting everything in a single asset...

Long term investment should only be done in PoS coins as they generate passive income by minting coins with minimal effort.
Best coin? Maybe ETH as soon as the fork to Casper happens, for now the best is DMD, no question about that!

During the last month all cryptos grew rapidly. If to compare, this is only small decrease. Maybe it's the quiet before the storm... The real question is where will the wind blow crypto markets? Will the rumoured bubble burst or will the speculation keep on inflating crypto values? Prices are not down, in fact they have never been this high if we consider the global marketcap. Will it last? Who knows?

it cant be happend. a lot of people dont know about bitcoin, and they still use regular money until now. if it change to cryptocurrencies, they will not use it (crypto) and maybe be poorman. except is there much of people who know about bitcoin and share the knowledge about bitcoin to them. and the problem, who want do that?
Yes that is not going to be so easy i think. Fiat currency is the need of the day and all round the world people still using fiat currency, while very few people may be using bitcoin or any other altcoin as optional. In fact still majority of people do not know about bitcoin and those people who know about it they do not have the opportunity to use bitcoin for purchasing everything. Therefore i think fiat currency will survive for a long long time. Your right. It's hard to do. Mostly of the people are not aware that bitcoin is really exist. Specially here in my country. Not all the people here knows about bitcoin. They don't have any idea what benefit they can get in bitcoin. Also some governments didn't recognize bitcoin as a currency so it will be more difficult. Bitcoin is most popular digital currency of the world. More and more people enter in the world of Bitcoin. And it is not possible that Bitcoin replace flat money but it can be help people to minimize the use of it. Mostly in those countries where the people are fond of latest technologies they definitely want to work with Bitcoin. And this time is not far away when people use their Bitcoin in every type of transaction and made their life more comfort and convenient. We are very far from that, and I'm not sure if we'll get there. For now, only a few are willing to receive a salary in BTC because of the volatility. For many years to come it will be completely impossible to live without purchasing food, clothes, etc with fiat money.

|
I think if Bitcoin has reached the total supply and supply is up, then the price of Bitcoin will be destroyed and will not have value
Maybe, who knows? But we will all be dead by then...

Obrigada a todos pelas dicas.
Hoje tenho uma dúvida: O Kraken parou? Irá voltar a funcionar? Estou cansada de tentar entrar e nada. Fiquei preocupada.
Está em manutenção programada e já anunciada há algum tempo. Vai voltar com certeza!

altcoins will dominate the crypto market. alt coins are more maturing in terms of speed, scaling and adoption.
Alts are already dominating the market: BTC's dominance is in a downward trend and it won't stop as more and more good alt projects rise
|
|
|
It looks like bitcoin will lose dominance in 2018, this will most likely benefit the altcoins
That is the trend: 2018 will be the year for the alts to rise and gain a well deserved space in crypto. I agree (not about the ripple part). Big fan of what Polymath is doing. They are going to change the game by getting Wall Street onto the blockchain. A project that everyone needs to be watching. https://polymath.network/Getting Wall Street into blockchain doesn't look like a very good scenario.... I don't know about Polymath's project, but I know Wall Street is owned by the worst kind of mafia in the world.... and they want a piece of the action!

I think there is no risk it may make sense to invest in one altcoin if you do a good analysis for example, investing only in waves will not be risky
That's a terrible advice! Investing is risky, period! Investing in crypto is very risky, period! Investing in a single crypto coin is just silly, period!

Yes, I also think that the cryptocurrency market will collapse, if it collapses, then it will rise again after the fall.
Then it's not a collapse, but a big fluctuation

Hey guys i invest 7 days ago the first time in altcoins about 3000€ Dogecoin, Siacoin, Vergecoin, Tron, Cardano, Ripple, Stellar Lumens, Iota. What do you think? The plan is to hold them 2-5 years and cash out a huge profit I would like to add one very cheap coin (under 1cent) with very high potential (1000%) maybe somebody can help me with my research ? Buy a lottery ticket!
|
|
|
The trend is clear; BTC's dominance is fading... BTC will rule for a long time but I wouldn't bet it will rule forever!
|
|
|
May be because the price of altcoins is fully depends on BTC price. So if the BTC will greathly decrease, the other cryptocurrency aslo will go down That was true until the end of 2017. Now, with a lot of money entering the crypto market, when BTC moves up the good altcoins also rise. There is still a great connection BTC/alt but not as strong as it used to be. 2018 will be the year for the alts to rise.

The best PoS coin at the moment is Diamond Coin: It is 4 years old, supported by a honest and competent dev team, and backed by a large and faithful community. It has already moved to PoS 3.0, with a rock solid masternode implementation. Check it out: https://bit.diamonds/https://diamond-info.github.io/

One can argue that there are many altcoins worth buying but I beg to differ. Only a few from the 1398 altcoins/tokens listed are worth a second look. How tho choose one?
These are my criteria:
- Premined or not?
Premined coins are too suspicious. The devs take an initial big slice for themselves always justifying that with some philosophical rhetoric but there are many past examples of total scam coins using this scheme.
- ICO or no ICO?
I don't like ICOs, I prefer to invest in an already ongoing project with given proof of stability and endurance. I'm not saying all ICOs are scam, but same of them are for sure!
- How old is the coin?
In my book, if a coin is still being actively traded after 3/4 years of existence, this has to mean something; there is a faithful community behind it.
- Is it still being actively developed?
Following the previous point, if after 3/4 years the coin still has a dev team committed to it with real plans for the future, then it has a real project!
- Does it have any real use besides pure pump and dump speculation?
Is the coin being used for any kind of purchases? If not, are there any plans for it? Otherwise, it will only be a play toy for trading.
- Does it have an active and large community?
How large is the community? Is it still active or everybody left a long time ago?
- Is it PoW of PoS?
Proof of Work is a dead end, the power consumption is obscene. Not viable for the average domestic crypto enthusiast. Proof of Stake can be done with a Rasberry Pi Grin
- Fully functioning wallet?
Some coins have terrible wallets, unstable, not user friendly. This is a key factor, the software has to be in line with the state of the at crypto developments.
- What is the current marketcap?
A coin already above 100mil might not be the best bet if you can find a good one below 100 mil with a good growth perceptive.
- What is the current/total coin supply?
Scarcity might prove to be an added value in the long run if you are planning to hold a coin and leave it for your kids!
|
|
|
There are many low market cap coins that will never leave that stage because they have nothing to offer besides pure scam and speculation.
Others may succeed, that's true.
But why not bet on coins in the mid range 50-100mil?
Some of them are 4 years old, have withstand the test of time, are still being actively developed and have a lot to offer.
Betting on brand new projects should be only a part of your global investment strategy as it is too risky.

ETH keeps rising and I'm holding and buying it.
Not only because I trust in it's future but also because the fork to implement Casper will turn ETH into a pure PoS coin and that is the only way to go.

|
|
yes you are right, lots of altcoin whose price keeps going up this year, I suggest you invest long-term on altcoin that you believe, buy now for sale later, but I still confuse to buy and hold it for a long term
Why do you confuse? Altcoins seem to be a fairly reliable cryptocurrency. There are 1398 altcoins/tokens listed in coinmarketcap.com. Most of them are trash... There are only a few truly reliable with good chances of survival so most of the altcoins in existence today will not last for long.

Altcoins are on the rise! A lot of fresh money is entering crypto these days, and most of it is being invested in altcoins. I strongly recommend you take a look at the PoS v3 coins with masternodes as they are the future for crypto networks.~ Take a look: https://masternodes.online/Thanks! Are these only POS v3 coins in this list? I believe only PoS v3 have masternodes, so yes.
