541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Linux over Microsoft? on: March 13, 2018, 07:15:17 PM
It has been so long since I owned a windows computer I don't know how to use it anymore. Linux is so much better that I can't imagine dealing with all the B.S. of windows.
Seriously, how do you windows users do it? I would take a hammer to my computer within a day, lol.
Dude you look too young to be such an old fogey Cheesy

Na, I'm over 50. Way too old to be into bitcoin. lol. Much of my wardrobe is older than bitcoin.  Cheesy
542  Economy / Economics / Re: if bitcoin cant scale how does it reach 1 million in 2020? on: March 13, 2018, 06:05:57 PM
Because it can scale?

544  Economy / Economics / How an ICO works... to scam you on: March 13, 2018, 05:51:17 PM
Step 1. Download the bitcoin source code and do a find/replace of the word "bitcoin". Change it to "scamcoin". Congratulations, without any knowledge of programing you have created an alt-coin. Now you need to find some "marks" (that's conman talk for someone stupid enough to buy alts).

Step 2. Pre-mine a bunch of your new coins. Then advertise your ICO (initial coin offering). Tell stories about how much better your coin is. I know, I know... Just make shit up.

Step 3. Sell a scamcoin to your buddy for $10. Your buddy could just be you posing as another person or an accomplice. Because scamcoin is really bitcoin you know that full production is 21million. So that's a marketcap of $210,000,000. WoW!

Step 4. The next day have your buddy sell you back your scamcoin for $15. Now go brag on the fourms that your new coin has gone up 50% in 24 hours!!!! And now has a marketcap of $315000000!!!!!!! Get them quick these things are going to the moon.

Step 5. Sell all your pre-mined coins and move on. Within days to weeks the coins will be valueless. But who cares? the marks are left holding the bag and you are holding bags of their money.

IMO, ICO's are simply a way to solve the problem of the developer not having your money. Sure, there are legit alts, but until you completely understand bitcoin you would be foolish to buy alts.

545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think twice before paying with Bitcoin? on: March 13, 2018, 05:30:43 PM
Nope. Rally or crash I only use bitcoin to buy stuff on the net. I do make sure I am spending at a higher valuation than when I bought, but I don't care how much.
546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 .1BTC is yours for the taking on: March 13, 2018, 04:28:48 PM

There is a software capable of finding the exact location of a picture, but unbanked Africans don't have that kind of technology. you guessed right, I haven't been in Africa. are there any wild animals near the location of this hidden treasure?
I did not know about that software. You should give it a try! There are no rules, you could team up with someone there maybe? About 30% of Namibians are on the Internet and that is growing very fast.
There are lots of wild animals near this location, but it's not a real threat. I camped out most nights and the locals will tell you that only the elephants are a concern. You would think the lions are frightening, but they ran toward them to get a better look. When they saw elephants they (we) ran away. Not what I expected.
In fact I thought Africa would be less developed and less safe than the USA. In the USA I carry a gun everywhere I go. In Namibia there is a lot less crime and a lot less people. I felt very safe unarmed camping in the bush.
547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS 501(c)(3) Public Charities That Accept Bitcoin on: March 13, 2018, 02:16:31 PM
Bumping this thread.

Anyone know of any International Legit Aid agencies that accept Bitcoin or Altcoin donations?

The list on the first page had some. Are looking for anything in particular?
548  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Are You Afraid of KYC? on: March 13, 2018, 02:13:37 PM
KYCs are not the problem here. The problem I see is where you are entrusting your information to.  ...
That is a different problem, but certainly worth considering. AML/KYC laws are laws and not optional. If you don't like it  you will need to petition your government. However a poorly run security policy at an exchange should scare us all a bit. It helps spearfishers greatly to know you have coins.
549  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am a newbee and I want to invest on: March 13, 2018, 02:08:47 PM
Hello, any suggestions and advices in investing in ICO's?

I would like to suggest that you are about to lose your money. Almost all ICO's are scams. Read until you understand why you don't want them. At that point you will be in a position to make better choices.
550  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 .1BTC is yours for the taking on: March 13, 2018, 02:01:36 PM
Nice try and a nice trick Rodeox, you are trying to get people killed either by cannibals or wild animals for 0.01 and not 0.1BTC. I wouldn't go out there to such a place, not even for 10 Bitcoins. because I couldn't have used any of it if I'm dead. even though I could right now buy a small apartment with 0.9-1.2BTC and practically live like a king for 3 years with 10BTC, because USD is scarce in my country and has 5 times more value than it had 5 years ago.
All because of sanctions.

Do you like wet trouts? it's a fish, you love fishes. one lol. I think it must have taught you a lesson by now that Bitcoin is not for the unbanked. if you are unbanked, that means that you don't need a bank. you should think about a banked nation but sanctioned from using the banks. not because they are terrorists killing people, because they wont submit to the wills of the west. they are the ones you should focus on helping.

I'm going to confidently guess that you have never been to Africa. Cannibals? LOL, come on man.  You know what's hot in Namibia? Country music, Anime, keeping a tidy lawn. Africa has radically changed in the last 30 years but America's knowledge of the region has not.
As far as the un-banked, they may well dominate bitcoin in coming years. Nobody has more to gain from the crypto revolution than the un-banked.
North America has peaked, Africa is ascending.

Here is another pic:

552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why wallet hacked on: February 27, 2018, 08:27:27 PM
Using private key is not safe?I used private key but I was hacked all my assets are gone..what should I do?
Well, you AND someone else used your private key. Private keys are computer files and as such face the same risks as any other file. I would suspect your computer has been compromised. You will want to re-format the drive and please, please don't install an unsafe OS like windows. You want to run "open source" software on an OS like Linux.
553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: help please with Bitcoin Core download on: February 27, 2018, 08:22:41 PM
You are doing everything right. It just takes a long time to sync with the network. Once you are it will be easy to stay synced. In fact the software gets kinda boring after syncing. It may be a hassle, but running a node like you are doing offers the highest security.

The most important thing is to make backup copies of your wallet.dat file. As long as you have a secured backup, like in a safe deposit box at the bank, all problems are fixable.  Just let your computer run till synced.
554  Economy / Economics / Re: how can the beggars access Bitcoin? on: February 27, 2018, 08:16:44 PM
And what about the lazy? How will the outrageously lazy get coins? This just isn't fair.  Cheesy
555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What will become the first real cryptocurrency, not an invesment currency on: February 27, 2018, 06:17:59 PM
I have never "invested" in bitcoin. I have always used it as my currency of choice. I don't care how many dollars it's worth. I don't want dollars.
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2018-02-21] Venezuelan Petro on Pre-Sale, How Has it Been Received? on: February 27, 2018, 02:58:22 PM
Who would want a currency backed by a failed state?  Hell, we don't want currency from a successful state.

I woulddn't hold it. But that's me. In crypto you will need to get used to making your own choices.
558  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies, be careful! Recommendations on: February 22, 2018, 02:41:57 PM
I would add...
Never trade alts until you can explain the nounce. Don't know what that is? Exactly.

Never use an exchange without a business license.
559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suggestion: Redistributing Lost Funds by Erosion on: February 21, 2018, 03:30:46 PM
A central value in bitcoin is that we don't tell each other what to do with each others money. There is absolutely no way on Earth to tell what coins are in cold storage and what coins are lost. So any attempt to "redistribute" coins will result in massive stealing and surely cause the collapse of bitcoin. I would sell off immediately if this happened and never touch bitcoin again.
There is also no reason whatsoever to do this and it addresses no problem. Bitcoin would work exactly the same way even if there were only 1 bitcoin. Or even less. The total production of BTC, 21million coins, is an arbitrary number and could have been 10 million or 100 million.  The coins that are now inaccessible are gone forever. Stop thinking about them, lol.
560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if this guy with 96,651 BTC suddenly cashes out? on: February 20, 2018, 04:23:20 PM
That was not the point of my question.
The hypothetical question was intended as a way for me (who is trading stuff for the very first time ever in my life) to learn about how the market would actually react, and what drives a given % increase/decrease in value, etc.

The thing to always keep in mind is logic. Experienced traders do not risk their capitol to "crash the market". They act rationally and logically. With swings of $1000 per day there is absolutely no need to create volatility at great risk. It would be foolish to risk like that in this market. It is very easy money compared to stock, bond or commodity markets. Why introduce new risk?

A serious trader knows this is about percentages not the price of a bitcoin or how much you have. You could be trading $100 or $1,000,000.  You still make the same percentage.
