581  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: January 19, 2014, 12:00:40 AM
EDIT: I guess my point is p2pool isn't for everyone.  True supporters of the p2pool concept acknowledge that.  The rest treat p2pool as a religion, as from their perspective, anyone who has a problem must not have their settings right or not understand the system.

On a related subject variance importance is often blown out of proportions and people willingly choose pools that pay between 3 and 5% less monthly because p2pool pays less nearly one day out of two. This behavior is not limited to pool choice: many forfeit long term gains for short term gains in most domains.

I agree, a mining friend of mine told me I should give P2Pool a chance for 30 days or so to see the overall gain over using a fee based pool. So far I have to say at I am happy to be at least hashing, the fee based pool I have been using lately hasn't had any blocks to be hashed so my miners have been spinning their wheels. Sad

How do I get the p2pool pages for /users/ /local_stats/ etc looking pleasing instead of lines of word wrapped text?

Also I have the latest version installed and /graphs/ doesn't work telling me "no such resource" is this normal?

Thanks

Sorry when it says put these files in your web-static folder, does it just mean the files or do I need to download the folders too? (just wondering so I am not doing something tiwce)

So I am confused a little.

If port 9332 work from inside my network but port 9333 doesn't shouldn't I be forwarding port 9332 from my firewall?

I have looked through the sites on google and a lot them say forward 9333.

All that is required is usb 3.0 and osc bit 55 to max them.

I'll be honest, I'm half afraid to overclock them... they're running at/above 3GH/s each, with an HW Error % BELOW 1%... I think I'll um... just not even bother with overclocking Grin great job man!

Wow that's great, you must be storing them in a freezer so that they don't melt! Cheesy

I've been waiting for one of my Neptunes to be refunded since 12/29  Huh. I gave them my banking info twice now. Not very impressed at this point.

It might not be their fault entirely as they do have to do a wire transfer from another country which can be plagued with problems on a banking level. Also banks needs to check everything so if something is off like your bank has your old mailing address or a different phone number for you, or email address the bank that Knc Miner uses can request the information again.

So it would be best to verify the information that you are giving Knc Miner is exactly what your bank has on file. Smiley

587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 18, 2014, 02:59:52 AM
I think Knc needs to release an official statement with some good news to calm the masses, or else they will get hit with a lot of Neptune refund requests.

I think vague statements from Bitcoinorama simply stirred up the hornets nest and did more harm than good.

Well I say if people are that worried about their Neptune having bad ROI when KnC finally ships them and want to request a refund, go for it! I will wait thanks, if people have done their home work they would know that Knc is pretty good at watching the ROI themselves and wouldn't sell you a box that you never make your investment back on.

I recommend to those who are thinking about asking for a refund to let go of their monkey minds and let things take their course. There is always going to be people who easily panic over the silliest things, but that doesn't mean you need to as well.

I can't wait for the next generation chips.. 14nm.

There are apparently two manufactures in the world who can make 14nm dyes, just no one is making a 14nm ASIC chip yet.

Neptunes are still very much in the preliminary design phase.

a bit smelly to get this information just one day after the last batch sold out..

I appreciate the update from Bitcoinorama but my feet are starting to get a little cold after this info. With the difficulty still climbing fast despite the failure of Hashfast and Cointerra to ship thus far, it's obvious there's a lot more incoming hashrate than I was aware of and they will ship eventually as both have working prototypes at this point. Could KNC be producing Jupiters for in house mining? It's hard to believe bitfury/gen 2 avalon could be responsible for it all...

I expected a least a little more concrete Nuptune info from KNC by this point as we're still left with a huge 5 month delivery window that ranges from a nice ROI to a massive loss for us customers that are in effect bankrolling the development of their 20nm miner. His update gives me the impression that they are not weighing the ROI of their customers in the schedule as much as they did for their 28nm development. I really hope that the "Q1/Q2" delivery is sincerely due to their uncertainty instead of intentional misleading like almost all other ASIC venders have been guilty of.

I am also really curious about what the actual manufacturing cost of a Jupiter is now that the RnD has already been paid for. It seems like it would have been a much better idea to refine their existing 28nm product which would allow them to have a 100% solid March 1st ship date as I feel a 700+Gh/s Jupiter should still be competitive by then and very easy to pull off.

I think I will wait until the end of the month and if there is still no official information about their progress I will consider asking for a refund or selling my pre-order.

Agreed on all points.  We're getting buried quick by the difficulty, and if KnC doesn't step it up so the Neptunes ship very early in Q2 we're going to be in trouble.

Yeap. Our 3TH miners will only be able to do 0.00000005 BTC a day by time we get them, but in the meantime Knc Miner is likely hashing with them right now! Wink

Canada will not ban BTC because they installed ATMs in their country Smiley

The Canadian Government didn't install the ATM, some local resident did. As cool as Bitcoin ATM's are what stops someone from pushing it over and stealing the money out of them as they aren't built like conventional ATMs are? Smiley

When Government clearly states something isn't legal people automatically assume that means it's illegal.
They didn't say it isn't legal.

"legal" and "legal tender" are totally different things

If something is not legal, then it's illegal. If someone tried to pass off bitcoins to you as legal tender they could be charged as the tender isn't legal (aka is illegal).

I'm guessing the BBB (BeagleBoneBlack) could be a bottleneck.
...

@ 'Orama/KnC: Could sales of a Jupiter with controllerboard minus BBB be an option ?

if the beaglebone was the bottleneck I'm sure he would of said just that...
There's more (or less) to it they're not revealing.  This seems a bit smelly also.

You might want to fix your tag line.. I haven't seen an 3000HG/s (HigaGash?) ASIC miner before! Wink
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin not legal tender in Canada on: January 17, 2014, 07:01:19 PM
Language makes a big difference,

BTC  IS Still LEGAL TO TENDER, (tender simply means to offer)

"Legal Tender" is a designation of how Government recognizes money simply for taxes and such as mentioned where it's offer MUST BE accepted.

That said, most people aren't smart enough to understand this simple concept and will shy away from BTC some times.

We live in a world whereby language is everything. When Government clearly states something isn't legal people automatically assume that means it's illegal. I am not saying BTC is but certainly I can see if push comes to shove the Canadian Government driving a solid wedge between the banking system and Bitcoin, like what the Chinese Government did, initially people said it won't hurt China but now if you take the time and watch fiatleak.net you'll see that the trading of bitcoin is pretty much gone from a flood to a tiny trickle.

I should also note bitcoin started at $1000 CAD at MtGox today, its so far down to $965 CAD and continues to drop. I wouldn't be surprised if it drops down to $500~$600 range or less sometime next week.

594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin not legal tender in Canada on: January 17, 2014, 02:44:16 PM
Legal tender simply means you can pay taxes with it.

It also means that retailers will be less likely to adopt bitcoin since it's not legal tender.

This news certainly is affecting the price on BTC today.

We could see it being banned in Canada next.

Has anyone setup p2pool on openSuSE? It doesn't use the sudo aptitude or add-apt because it has zypper (sp?), so I am not sure how to take what's written here and do it on OpenSuSE. Unfortunately the Xi3 doesn't like Ubuntu or vice versa. Sad

Is there anything different that I would need to do to use stratum+tcp instead of http:// on P2Pool?

Thanks,

No I'm not even sure http is supported.

funny. Smiley

600  Bitcoin / Mining / Setting P2Pool on SuSE on: January 16, 2014, 04:36:37 PM
I am looking for info on setting up P2Pool on SuSE 13.1 but I haven't been able to find any site that explains how to do it, everything I have found explains how to setup it up on Windows. Sad

Does anyone know where I get the step by step instructions?

I have a Xi3 Z3RO that I was to use.

Thanks,
