581  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: Interesse in groupbuy Gridseed? on: February 25, 2014, 10:26:38 PM

I don't own one of these rigs, but I have a lot of experience doing mods to the 703N.  There isn't an SD card if it's a stock device, but there are probably ways to get a copy of the firmware if you want to play around with it (of course, you might break it too, so be careful).  Lots of info here:

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr703n

Post the hash file of the root password, I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to decrypt.

I can't ssh the controller, so I can't extract the file. Maybe there is an SDCard inside the controller. Didn't think about that. Will check.

No, ssh doesn't work, but it seems to respond to FTP and SCP, haven't been able to break the password though  Tongue

Luke are you considering adding support for the gridseed 5 chip miner?

It is selling like hotcakes but has rather poor software support. bfgminer would be magic...

+1

very interested in this.

Support for the single-chip thumbs is completed and submitted to Luke as a pull-request for 4.0:

https://github.com/nwoolls/bfgminer/tree/feature/dualminer-support

Support for the 5-chip miners is under way as well.

That's great news!

I don't understand why they don't release the linux driver for the gridseed units. OpenWRT is just a tiny linux version right? Then why isn't there a linux driver yet Sad That would make it easy to just run it on a raspi, which can probably handle many more units than the TP link device does. For me, it would be best if I could just forget about the TP link as soon as possible.
Well there are a few things you could try.

At https://github.com/gridseed/ you can find modified cgminer and cpuminer source codes which you could cross compile for the raspberry. Well they are old and as far as I know need some tweaking before you can compile them, but they should work less or more.

You can also download the v2.0.2 update from http://www.wiibox.net/down/v2.0.2.zip and find a cgminer binary inside. This one is compiled for MIPS so won't run on the raspberry, but you could find better hardware than the WR703N to run it.

Good news for you is the developers of scripta are working on gridseed support since a while, maybe just wait until they get it done - http://www.lateralfactory.com/scripta/

darkfriend77 My problem is that I want the locked firmware Smiley

Yeah, I have been watching scripta. They currently don't support SHA256 though, and I would love to be able to at least use the SHA256 capability when I want to. I will start experimenting with some of the options you mention.

...

The controller is just a TP-Link TL-WR703N with custom firmware. You could probably also buy one of these from Amazon, and flash it with the lightningasic firmware. (haven't tried it yet, but should be possible)

I will get one ... if we manage to get .. away from those 67$ priced controllers from gridseed ... and can handle the cgminer and cpuminer ... on them .... we will be far better of ... also open-source we can try to evolve it ... and have better monitoring possibilities ...

If any of you live in the EU and got the LA6M package with the free bonus controller I'm interested in buying the surplus controller at a reasonable price. I'm waiting at a better USD/BTC rate to order my pack, but I would like to open the fw and make some changes like per unit clock speed adjustments at 1Mhz steps until my order gets here.

darkfriend77 the 2.0.2 update is not for a plain openwrt install I think, but to update an original wiibox.

Also in case anybody has an original wiibox please log in and look at system stats while hashing - maybe the little tp-link board is running out of resources which would add to instablity.

can someone PLEASE upload the
cpuminer-2.3.2-GC3355-win32.rar  program please, you can't download it on the provided link in the guide, so we can't even get started.   Sad

I uploaded it here:

I just wanted to let people here know that even though I didn't receive any tracking info on forehand, I just had a DHL guy stop at my door with a package from china Smiley

I paid the 10th, by bank transfer.

I am testing with one unit now, and it seems to be stable up to a frequency of 750. It doesn't matter for the hashrate (at give-me-coins pool) though whether I put it at 600 or 750.

12M for 6650 sounds very interesting if this is basically 4 x LA3M. Or, is this a LA6M overclocked to 12M in a box? I am guessing it's the latter. Anyone know more about what's in the 12M box?

Completely different product. 1 THS sha256 and 12 MHS scrypt.
You can see pictures of the unit in the first post of this thread and overhere.

He doesn't say anything about scrypt mining in that thread? Are you sure this is a combined miner as well?

Why do people keep posting rubbish google translate translations?

If you want to translate do it properly, or just don't do it at all.
593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GLB]Globe – NOW ON AN EXCHANGE - Fast , Backed, Economically Viable on: February 22, 2014, 01:15:57 PM
Just dropping by to let you guys know that its official: https://twitter.com/LazyCoins

You're one of the first coins we have selected Globe for our exchange to be traded at launch, which will probably be the biggest launch for any altcoins exchange yet. Since our announcement 4 days ago we have already had few hundred followers and fourteen altcoins added. We are working hard to launch beta soon. So for ETA and updates please follow us https://twitter.com/LazyCoins. Retweet and show your support!

Thanks! I actually just went to this thread to share the good news Smiley

I think Premine (PMC) could very well go in that direction. It is a relatively rare (500.000 cap) coin, all of which exist already, and they have all been distributed to members.

I think it's a great idea to make a central thread for this!

Mine are still on the way, but I would also love to see some results with these mining from a linux/windows based machine (raspi?), using the customized cpuminer.

What I would like to know is:
- Do you have control over single/dual mode?
- Can you change the frequency of the miners with this setup?

More general questions I have:
- Does the USB hub need to be a powered hub?
- How noisy are they?
- How much heat do they produce?

With cpuminer you supposedly can enable dual-mode, but I don't know how it works given that you can only point to a single pool afaik. You can also change the frequency. The USB hub must be powered. They produce 80-100W of heat per LA3M/10 units. With computers, 99% of power is converted to heat. My plan was to desolder the fans and run them on the 5V rail of a standard PSU.

So, single scrypt mode is default with cpuminer? That would be great (since I plan on only using dual mode sometimes).

Anyone who can comment on how noisy they are?

can someone tell me how do you know the price you need to pay for those.
There is no prices in the PM message asiabtc is sending you over and over whatever the question you ask...

$2600 + $150 shipping for LA3M, $5100 + $300 shipping for LA6M.

Much beautiful, so engineering

Nice! How exactly did you attach the miners to the frame?
599  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Looking for most secure cold storage laptop on: February 20, 2014, 09:46:38 AM
Jesus man.  a $200 used laptop off CL would have been more than enough.
Encrypt the shit out of it, unplug it and your good.
Why so many bizarre steps?

It depends on how many coins you have, and what percentage of your wealth those coins represent.

If you had 5,000 BTC and this represented 90% of your net worth, would you then hesitate to spend $2k on a new secure laptop in order to sleep well at night?  Wink

I agree with you I would maybe buy new as well in that case, but even then it is plain stupid to spend $2k on it. It is something often seen that people (or companies) with money tend to over spend, just to make sure they get the best. The problem here is that for cold wallet functionality you don't need a core i7, 8GB RAM, full hd display and nVidia Quadro graphics. What he could have bought was a cheap laptop, and put a hardware encrypted ssd in it (or let a company do so). This is like companies spending $400k on a new website, which actually doesn't have that much functionality at all.
600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: February 19, 2014, 11:36:02 AM
Counterparty (XCP), that is trading between .009 and .027 on Poloniex has a TX Fee of 0.1 XCP. That is robbery, a 10% fee on such a valuable coin. C'mon OP, this can't be how you are trying to attract business, right?

The withdrawal fee can never be 10%. It is a flat fee of 0.1 XCP, to cover all the dust costs incurred in moving the XCP around internally. I believe the minimum withdrawal is 3 XCP, so the highest percentage the fee can be is 3.33%. To reduce that, just withdraw more XCP in one go.

I was not aware that there were a lot of dust transactions with XCP. I am just confused as to how every other coin ranges from .01 to .0001 in TX fee an this one is .1 of a coin when this is one of the more expensive ones. Aren't "dust" costs associated with cheaper coins? How does this math work out?

DOGE PRICE : 0.00000217           TX Fee:    0.01 DOGE

XCP PRICE: .011                TX Fee:    0.1 XCP

Are there exorbitant mandatory fees that I am unaware of? Honest question. I apologize for the choice of "robbery" to describe the fee, but wow.

I actually think the fee on Doge is extremely low. On Cryptsy for example, it is 1 Doge. Maybe the XCP fee is a little high as well, but hey, it is a business, and he needs to earn something as well Wink You could say this is his bonus for being the first (and only at the moment) to have XCP on his exchange. Just don't do to many withdrawals, try to combine them in one big one.
