This is useless btc, he is giving. You cannot send this or exchanged.

It is a collectible replica of a Genuine BTC as they exist in Ripple.

I guess I will start the bidding:

0.04 btc for 4 TradeFortressBTC on Ripple
I'll cover your 0.04, but this is a bad idea because the point is to show a BTC in ripple isn't a BTC

0.0501 btc

I know it is not a real btc, that is why they are so cheap

I know that too.

586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PSA: Bitcoin's survival and long term prospects depend on MtGox getting killed. on: May 16, 2013, 09:07:19 AM
Oh mighty wise one, do you have a suggestion for a better exchange to use?

The first bitcoins I bought were on TradeHill, because they allowed easy Dwolla deposits and I thought MtGox seemed sketchy (this was right around the time of the big MtGox hack and rollback etc). Tradehill went away, so I stopped using them.

I then used MtGox, now I have an account there and a small amount of money there, so unless another option is clearly better I will keep using them because it is familiar. They do have a record of developing very long lag times during high volumes of trade, so I would be interested in an exchange that does the whole exchange thing better.

I tried putting up an ad on localbitcoins, but never got any response.

I used Coinbase to buy some bitcoin, but their daily limit is obnoxious and they are just selling bitcoins, it is not the same as trading on a market.

What is the best option, or do we still need somebody to make the ideal exchange site?

Outside of otc trading (which for the record has been for the past year and looks set to remain the largest BTC market by volume - yes it was larger than the sum of all exchanges before today, yes it will certainly remain larger than the sum of all exchanges after today) you might try cavirtex for the west side of the pond and bitcoin-central for the east side. There's also btc-e and bitstamp. There's probably more.

It wouldn't hurt if somebody made a good exchange, but it's hard to do and some other newbs with fat on the brain a la Karpeles are emphatically NOT needed.
I am waiting for Bitcoin Central to get back online with better site and security this time! I like they are more regulated. Also they need bigger volume...

... And stay away from web wallets, pay people back, etc.
587  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why Ripple™ is against everything Bitcoin on: May 16, 2013, 09:02:36 AM
Ripple is a joke and the owners are a pathetic bunch of crying losers who regret selling MtGox[1] before it got popular and before it raked in alot of millions. Those same losers are now trying to, in a pathetic way, make up for that mistake-of-a-lifetime by pushing Ripple down everyone's throat.

Correction: became a liability for millions

So if this is being dumb with money, then your judgement is obfuscated by your personal preference. For me this works just fine, and I am quietly minding my own business and instruct you to do likewise.
Remind me what you did with an unsecured laptop, and how much in bitcoins was on it? And how you "proved" you had a huge bankroll?

Is it just digital money that you're a complete fool with, or are your past successes mostly attributable to luck and connections?

Has to be sheer luck, since I did not have connections when I started. Now I do.

Every now and then it is inevitable that someone would get so lucky...
589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which alt-coin to use compared to LTC or BTC? on: May 16, 2013, 07:29:37 AM
BTC and LTC.

CNC is really fast, sadly it is "china" coin.
Now I'm mining/buying some WDC, looks promising.

But keep you BTC/LTC, all other ones are risk for now.

CNC has issues... LTC only has to its advantage a wide initial distribution. There may be appetite for a bitcoin successor, but it doesn't yet exist.

WDC... LOLWaT

Hi,

I´ve been away for over a month and now I see over a dozen new coins.
Opposed to the few established coins (BTC, LTC, PPC, TRC) on which coin would you bet? Feather coin, Freicoin, Mincoin, etc.?

It would take days for me to gain enough knowledge to be able to make a final decision which coin to mine (meanwhile I´m still BTC mining).

So please lets hear on which coin you bet and why?

Thanks in advance!

BTW: BBQ is dead, because of 51% attack, right?

Still BTC, no worthy alts have appeared yet.

Binaries anyone!?

Building a binary from source isn't some magic limited to developers.

593  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitcoinSports.eu - Bitcoin Sports Betting - Parlays - Teasers - No Account! on: May 09, 2013, 04:39:12 PM
This might be one of the less frequent requests you receive, but I think it would be nice if you enabled https connections to the site.

We have considered adding HTTPS in the past but since there is no user accounts/no sensitive information ever being submitted there is less reason to. However, we may still add it in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

I understand the architecture is already fairly anonymous, but... It never hurts to obscure things in transit instead of leaving things like deposit addresses in the open to be scooped up by whatever man in the middle...

I will put it into the issues as something to watch out for and have a look at the code.
Also I will put in a support note on the website so people can find out what to do to fix it.

Have you seen it on the 0.5.9 version ? The blockstore is different - it is a lot smaller.

Haven't seen it in 0.5.9, but switching to 0.5.9 on its own isn't a fix. I haven't seen it begin in 0.5.9 yet.
596  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What is the best client? on: May 07, 2013, 07:49:37 AM
I tried all the others and didnt like them so much, it is a good thing to learn the ins and outs of the various clients, you'll learn more about bitcoin in the process, but my one warning is; stick to recommended clients from this sub! as bitcoin grows, the malware and bogus downloads, including lookalike download sites, are growing too. stray too far and you could be very sorry.

This is some great advice.
597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im starting a new bitcoin-related project. ANONYMOUS OR NOT? on: May 07, 2013, 07:43:49 AM
It can be hard to maintain anonymity if you scam as well, Pirateat40 being Trendon Shavers is one example. The scam accusations board has many more...

this confirm my point, real identity is the solution

Well, there's been people who have sullied their real names to scam as well,  but many of the scammers operating under their real names simply overpromised and failed in the face of reality.

What you really need to do as you build your site infrastructure is build a reputation for competence and honesty. Trade frequently whether you do it under a real or assumed name. Do join the WOT. Maybe test the registration and login process with a couple other names first so you don't register a key only to find you can't log in.

You can bit coin with a real name or pseudonymously (like anonymous, but some people retain your powerword), but don't assume any screen name can be completely separated from meatspace.
598  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit on: May 07, 2013, 07:26:46 AM
I've had a couple of friends running Multibit on Windows 7 run into corrupted blockchains. The fix was fairly easy in that it involved updating to the latest version, deleting the blockchain file, redownloading the blockchain, and then rescanning their addresses. The first time was a few weeks ago, but the most recent incident of "Oops, corrupted blockchain!" was this past Saturday (Multibit 0.4.21, Windows 7). The fix is easy and reliable enough, but the cause is a mystery to me.

(At which point you can pull a Pirate and disappear with our monies, having pulled a very successful long con.)

Using my real identity this will be hard to do, i think

Cool, so hedging should be less important then. MPEX options and hedging can be something of a hassle if you don't need it.

Do you think there's investor demand for IPOs on MPEX?

There seems to be. I'm not the person to be asking about that though. MPEX tends to be much pickier than the other bitcoin stock exchanges when it comes to IPOs. A large reason for this has been the tendency for most bitcoin IPOs to be crap. MPEX IPOs tend to have a much better chance of getting a decent amount of funding though.

This thread contains some reading to get started on: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=124441.0
Probably also wouldn't hurt to read some articles on Trilema: http://polimedia.us/trilema

Once you have some idea how Mircea views bitcoin business the IRC channel #bitcoin-assets is usually a place where you can ask questions to Mircea directly.

Off the topic of MPEX, one thing you might want to do is poke around the development and technical discussion threads to check out ways you can protect your business while still taking zero confirmation transactions. There's a lot of information about that subject here on the forums and there's a decent chance a developer working on the issue can answer questions you might have.
