Although for forum purposes it is the same thing. He was dead before he announced it.

Lauda also said that user Lauda is dead or something to that effect but obviously that didn't mean the person died.

I may make a suggestion. If we have to enter via the "enter" link, is there a possibility to at least place it in the middle of the page? It is almost unnoticeable on mobile devices in the top left corner. Also, some larger font would be great.

I have restored the main page as it was before the attack.

OP started ~10 threads in two days and can barely string together a coherent sentence. Report this shit and move on. Responding to their harebrained "ideas" is a waste of time unless you're desperate for sig campaign quota.

He could have kept the situation under control till he sold the account.

The alleged sale likely took place early in the drama and before the mixer ban, so the account was still very lucrative. Don't feel bad for Ratimov, I'm sure he made some decent coin out of this and is spinning up a new merit farm as we speak.
66  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov aka Symmetrick be in DT1? on: December 26, 2023, 04:26:00 PM
He could have sold his account in secret and do a homerun but he wanted all the fireworks instead  Grin

If he sold the account he doesn't have to care anymore if it's a secret or a firework. Fucked the buyer probably, or maybe not because the buyer seems to have profitably absconded with some signature money if I'm reading the latest nonsense correctly, but either way it's not like account buyers add any value to the forum.

I find it hard to say but would you agree that the military industrial complex has taken over our country most presidents can't even do anything without this branch of power the only president of recent memory who ever tried was trump unfortunately Biden is just a bitch who can be easily controlled part of the reason why Israel doesn't listen to America and the situation in the isreal Palestine war is getting worse we may not admit it but Trump is better for America at least our rivals obey us and our enemies fear us.

Congratulations Hueristic, I don't think I can make ~70 points needed to win this one, unless Josh Jacobs runs backwards the whole game Smiley

It's been a great season for my scrappy team, can't wait to beat you all next year.

I'm still confused as to what the etiquette is regarding PMs to someone's clients. It's seems to be either perfectly acceptable or totally inappropriate to send such PMs, seemingly based on a complex formula involving lunar phases and tea leaves. I assume publishing someone's PMs is contingent to similarly elaborate "rules".
70  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Having issues with BPIP on: December 17, 2023, 08:39:23 PM
What happens is that it is not fully functional yet, because when searching for users I get an error.

This has been fixed. I didn't notice it because search worked from the home page but was failing from e.g. profile pages. Thank you for reporting this.
71  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: December 17, 2023, 02:41:15 PM
Loading great now. They must have gotten bored and moved on.

It has slowed down a bit but they're still trying. We're just getting better at iptables.

I never got this dDos thing. Is that a ransom? Is this a way for your hosting server to make you buy additional protection? Who is spending money to attack you? And why?
If it had ended right now, they probably ended up losing money. So why bother?

It doesn't make any sense, especially the scope of the attack. No one contacted me (or ibminer as far as I know) with any demands. Perhaps someone just wanted us to lose money on bandwidth etc and it kinda worked for the first few hours or so. But (1) we can take the site down and stop incurring any costs - that will inconvenience users but they are already inconvenienced by the DDOS anyway; and (2) once I had some time to figure out firewall setup the site can function with very little extra bandwidth cost... I hope that's worth it for the plonker who's doing this.
72  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: December 17, 2023, 04:17:30 AM
This might probably be too much of a request, but I just wanted to ask if you guys have considered having a tor mirror of the site given the recent stupid attacks, or this will make the whole thing more costly?
Sorry about my ignorance regarding websites and how they are run.

A tor mirror hosted on the same server as the clearnet site would also be taken down in the event of a DDoS.

This type of attack (application layer) can take down an onion site just the same, even on a different server. On clearnet I can block at least some of it at the firewall. I don't know much about onion sites but I think my defense options would be more limited.

Anyway, it looks like the attacker is getting bored, traffic is easing off. If anyone is still experiencing issues with the site and/or the extension - please let me know. It should be working fine unless I screwed something up and blocked something I shouldn't have. The "Enter" link on the home page will remain there for a little longer, just in case the attacker reads this and gets all petulant again and decides to throw more traffic at it.
73  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Having issues with BPIP on: December 17, 2023, 03:46:23 AM
Just curious now, is the DDoS attack safe on browser extensions?

DDOS attack won't affect your extension or your browser directly. Of course if the extension needs to fetch something from the server (like rank and DT level as you mentioned) and the server is being DDOSed, it may not be able to get that information. But there is no safety issue.
74  Other / Meta / Re: Stats – The Merit Speedy Gonzales’ of the forum on: December 16, 2023, 08:52:54 PM
e) Which is most amount of earned merits per profile in a 24 hour running window ?

What do the last two columns mean?

Edit: never mind, I think I figured it out... user's merit total before the 24h window and after.
75  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: December 16, 2023, 03:39:31 PM
Hello friends, as far as I can see the attack continues. I tried it from my mobile before and I couldn't, and now from my PC I first get a blank page with a link that says 'Enter' and when I hit it, it keeps loading for a while until it gives a 504 Gateway Time-out error.

Yeah I'm playing whack-a-mole with the attacker now, either I will run out of disk space of a blacklist, or the dipshit will run out of IPs. So the site may go off and on unfortunately while this is happening.
76  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: having issue accessing bpip site on: December 16, 2023, 12:34:26 AM
It seems it's under a DDOS attack check all replies from this page below.

Please use that thread to discuss this issue... yes, it's a DDOS attack, site is kinda sorta working right now but not sure how long. Someone is very determined to take it down so this nonsense might last a while until they get bored.
77  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: December 15, 2023, 09:28:49 PM
Need to filter it off as far away from the server as possible.
How about CloudFront? So far, it's holding up for me.

Yeah I tried that... unfortunately didn't work out too well.

78  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: December 15, 2023, 09:23:44 PM
Suchmoon, in the interim you could create a static front page and refresh it every min or so.   Call it the BPIP Appreciation Event!  Serving a static page will push the abuse to the internet cache network, and barely affect your server.

The webserver is unable to serve even static pages at the rate it's being hammered. ~70 million requests per hour. Nor does it make sense to pay for that much bandwidth. I'm working to have these shitheads blocked at the edge before incurring any costs.
79  Economy / Reputation / Re: The percentage probability that the account was sold on: December 15, 2023, 02:06:18 AM
lol funny post. If I don't use bitcointalk I break the rules?

If you're not the original owner of the account and try to hide that fact - you can't be trusted. Attempting strawman fucktrollery like you're doing here just confirms that suspicion.

So just sign the message and stop multiposting (now THAT breaks the rules).
80  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: December 15, 2023, 12:35:54 AM
Have you considered other donators?   I could host a copy of your website on a round robin DNS; at least take away 50% of the traffic.   Since you maintain exclusive control to the data, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you for the offer but this isn't organic traffic so throwing more resources at it doesn't seem right. Need to filter it off as far away from the server as possible.
