601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A Psuedo Guide on how to Build an AltCoin (help fill in gaps) on: May 02, 2013, 03:10:25 PM
Do we really need a guide for creating an alt coin? I mean we're getting snowed under with a new alt coin clone being released every day / week with zero innovation. If a "developer" needs to be reading this guide to figure out how to make an alt coin, what the chances of it not being a simply clone of something else? Pretty much zero.

Should we really be encouraging this and making it more accessible?

Doesn't hurt anybody. Smiley
602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin: most forked? on: May 02, 2013, 03:08:45 PM
Does github have any statistics showing which github-hosted projects are the most forked?

I'm curious how Bitcoin compares!
603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Temporarily ShutDown] www.CryptocoinExplorer.com on: May 02, 2013, 03:07:15 PM
Robert, thank you greatly for providing this service.

By all means, prioritize on getting some sleep.  You can't decide what the right course of action is if your brain is so tired it's effectively switched off!  Take care of yourself, first and foremost!
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC-e Needs CHNCoin on: May 02, 2013, 03:05:20 PM
For now on every time you see CHNCoin you will think "ChickenCoin" instead of Chinacoin.

Your welcome.

Thank you!
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rumors feathercoin BTC-e Exchange? on: May 02, 2013, 03:04:59 PM
It's because everybody kept saying "Arise, chickun."  They thought they were encouraging Litecoin; instead, they accidentally summoned Feathercoin!
606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] ATcoin ATC a new crypto on: May 02, 2013, 03:01:49 PM
Almost all current cryptos have very long confirmation times (block generation) which really make them almost useless in a real world (over the counter) transaction. Imagine going to a 7/11 and buying a drink and then asking the staff to wait for 10 minutes confirmation (or 2.5 min in the case of LTC) Smiley.

But this objection has been answered a long time ago, for Bitcoin.  With an active network, there is no need to wait 10 minutes or an hour for a small purchase.  This is a problem that does not exist.

Just shortening the block generation time is really no solution as it just leads to a much larger blockchain.

Also, the lower difficulty means you need more blocks to get an equivalent level of confirmation, so I'm not convinced it really buys you anything.  i.e., if a blockchain targets 5 minute blocks on average and is identical to Bitcoin in all other respects, I believe you would need 12 blocks to reach an equivalent level of confirmation as 6 blocks on the Bitcoin blockchain.

608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [1 chance left] 24h auctions: Litecoin for Bytecoins on: May 02, 2013, 02:56:19 PM

609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2 chances left] 24h auctions: Litecoin for BBQcoins on: May 02, 2013, 02:43:30 PM
If it is a new auction??? 300 BBQ

Yes, it is.  It is the last auction, and you are in the lead.

I notice somebody else has picked up the torch of running an identical/similar auction to this one, so it looks like you'll still have a place to go after 00:00:00 today.

Good luck!

611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't we just release what everyone's thinking. on: May 01, 2013, 07:27:21 PM
A new coin that has:

One-second transactions
Dynamic difficulty (readjusts every block)
A way to reclaim lost coins (No transactions for 365 days, coins start to trickle out of your account back into blocks at a slow rate)
sCrypt

Release it, and let's see what happens. Smiley
612  Economy / Economics / Re: Defending the Speculator on: May 01, 2013, 07:09:38 PM
Speculating is merely buying an asset to see if you can pass it on at a higher price to another person later as part of a general rise in the assets price, from this comes bubbles and false price signals that lead to malinvestment.

On the contrary, those signals do not come from speculating.  They come from regulation, which distorts the economy.
613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2 changes left] 24h auctions: Litecoin for Bytecoins on: May 01, 2013, 06:57:03 PM
Announcement: I have two more Litecoins left to award for Bytecoin in these auctions.  There will be two more auctions: the current one which concludes at the end of today, and the one that concludes tomorrow (2013-05-03T00:00:00Z).

The current winning bid appears to be 50 BTE.

This has been great fun, and I thank everyone in the community who has participated!

616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] a new coin based on Litecoin - CHNCoin on: May 01, 2013, 05:15:08 AM
even at 1 cent each that
is 100,000 dollars.

What coins are actually going for 1 cent each?  Let me tell you I held onto a lot of Terracoin that was only worth a half cent each for a long time....
