I'll make an opening bid at .5 BTE.  Cheesy

Fractional bids are perfectly acceptable. Smiley
782  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin: Believer, or not on: April 23, 2013, 07:28:03 AM
Bitcoin is a potential means of ending the business cycle and all of the poverty, misery, and death that it causes.  For this reason, I am serious about promoting Bitcoin.  When the price goes up, I cheer, not because I own a lot of BTC (I don't), but because it is one measure of mankind's escape from business cycle currencies into safe currency and a bright future.

Murray Rothbard - What has Government Done to Our Money

I second this!  This book was an eye opener!

You can read the entire thing online for free:

Book #2: Time Will Run Back, by Henry Hazlitt.  A dystopian novel, in the vein of 1984.

Bonus: America's Great Depression, by Murray Rothbard
784  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's problem is the low rate of new coins on: April 23, 2013, 07:23:02 AM
Life cycle of a Bitcoiner:
Hear about Bitcoin. Look into it, decide not to get in. Too risky.
Several months pass.
Hear about Bitcoin again, see how much the price has risen.
Buy a few coins, so as to not be left out.
Bitch about "early adopters" and how they "have all the coins."
"Early adopters" tell you to quit whining.
Post new thread about "fatal flaw" in Bitcoin.
Get told that "fatal flaw" is feature, not bug, get pointed to 9000 other threads where same "flaw" is discussed.
Tell friends about Bitcoin. They decide not to get in. Too risky.
Several months pass.
New users flood in, and start posting threads bitching about "early adopters" and how they "have all the coins."
Tell new users to quit whining about "early adopters".
Realize that you are now an "early adopter."

Apparently I will never be an early adopter, because I didn't take this course.  I was the same for only the first few steps:
Life cycle of a Bitcoiner:
Hear about Bitcoin. Look into it, decide not to get in. Too risky.
Several months pass.
Hear about Bitcoin again, see how much the price has risen.
Buy a few coins, so as to not be left out.
Realize that I am now in a new land, with a new currency, and penniless.  Start working for a living to earn coin.

I'm still pretty close to penniless, but at least I'm not whining all the time.
785  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any Exchanges Take 'Moneygram'? on: April 23, 2013, 07:17:07 AM
You can send Moneygram to bitinstant.com and have them payout with several different options.  You can use this to fund MtGox trades.
786  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTC|TRC|BTE|BQC|LTC] RBCex: Exchange Terracoin, Bytecoin, and Litecoin on: April 23, 2013, 07:03:30 AM

789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The JokeCoin Project: Not-So-Serious Altchains Galore on: April 23, 2013, 06:11:16 AM
Basic premise is simple: A lot of altchains turn into pre-mined pump and dump scams which harm users and the overall health of the cryptocurrency community.

The idea that altcoins "harm the health of the cryptocurrency community" is not substantiated.

Some altcoins definitely improve the overall quality of the Bitcoin project. For example, I'm a big fan of Devcoins in that they reward people who do constructive things. But I'm far more skeptical about coins with heavy premining and no real improvements over BTC...you really can't make the argument that a currency with 20% of it premined is helpful for anyone other than the creator.

If somebody acquires a coin, they must have felt that doing so was in their best interest (helpful to them).  Nobody has been forced to acquire any coins.
790  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: April 23, 2013, 03:50:57 AM
It seems that TRC deposits are not processed. They do not show up in the accounts page, however by looking at the TRC data, they are already processed.

Problems ?

What version of the TRC client are you on?  You probably have an old client on an invalid/fork chain.
791  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ayn Rand on: April 23, 2013, 03:00:13 AM
I've never read Rand, but I've been a libertarian for ages.

Today I received two Rand novels as a gift in the mail.

Guess I will read them now! Smiley
792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: USD Coin - Thoughts? on: April 22, 2013, 11:06:48 PM
I don't think it's a good idea, and I wouldn't use it.

Unless you are personally prepared to back the system with a dollar for every coin in it, you will never be able to force this coin to stay at par with a dollar.  I will put it up on my exchange, and we will determine its true value. Smiley

793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-Mine = Scam on: April 22, 2013, 09:32:55 PM
Feathercoin is pre-mined around 4.000.000 coins which goes to give-away section Smiley
politic is bad for your health..

Based on what??
FC Was not pre-mined!

I remember when I started it was on block 300... or high into the 200's.

the truth will eventually be revealed

FUD... that's all this is.
Wait till a block chain explorer comes out... that will answer that question.

794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: April 22, 2013, 09:27:28 PM
If Bytecoin were to "die," I would personally start CPU-mining it and hoarding it like crazy. Smiley
795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SUSPENDED] Anon136 orderbook + escrow (real exchange coming very soon) on: April 22, 2013, 09:25:44 PM
I decided to place an order but my deposit address is for the test-net only.
Yeah, the BTC side is on the testnet at the moment, I couldn't get the BTE testnet to work, it's giving me some error about the genesis block.

So far as I know, only Bitcoin and Terracoin have testnets.  I haven't looked for Litecoin, but I would assume they have one as well.  Most other coins, it seems, don't feel the need to have a testnet.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BETA] EXCHANGE.BYTECOIN.IN on: April 22, 2013, 09:19:03 PM
I can't seem to log into this exchange or view it any more.  Is it gone permanently, or just having technical difficulties?
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTE] The Bytecoin Information Thread on: April 22, 2013, 09:17:33 PM
How can I compute/estimate the total current hashing power in the bytecoin network?  I've noticed some altcoins have a getnetworkhashespersec API command, but I don't think Bitcoin or Bytecoin have one.  I'm also not sure how it works.
798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: April 22, 2013, 09:11:48 PM
Is this thing dead?

Not as far as I am concerned.
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Novacoin.org on: April 22, 2013, 09:03:56 PM
Your exchange button links to Vircurex, but I don't think Vircurex trades NVC.

Or maybe I'm just confused.
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Novacoin.org on: April 22, 2013, 09:02:28 PM
All credit goes to  Balthazar for creating it and yes i understand that some still have something negative to say oh well.

I would think the premine was the main issue with NVC, and that was destroyed.  So what else is there negative to say?
