621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Perspective about HODL. on: June 16, 2018, 03:15:58 AM
It's good to see I'm not alone with this feeling, I've never heard it on television but seeing sites like etherscan adding "TOP 100 HODLers" just drags down the 'professional' feeling.
'hodl' has become a very forced saying.

It will soon become a term listed in all English dictionaries, probably together with FODL. I don't really mind if things don't look that professional when it concerns explorers since they don't represent an official entity providing a paid service. On top of that, I don't think etherscan looks all that bad, but preferences can differ of course. Nowadays everyone that managed to not move his coins for two days tends to call itself a hodler, which is probably a bit more frustrating, especially so with how the mainstream media then reports about hodlers losing confidence, while in reality it only concerns a bunch of noobs.

what you say about explorers - sure, it's fine, I can agree with that.
but it's more the general - Why do it in the first place? Not only etherscan, lets say media.
What is the gain to be using these "trendy" words? does it make people interested, somehow they feel they're part of some   "crypto culture" if the media says "hodl"?
do they think it'll be talked of more on the internet?

I just fail to see why, well, honestly Any serious project at all, would choose to conform to a temporary trend in their  'content'.
Of course, if it's like a clothing trend and it's a clothing company, that's different.
but any serious news channel using 'current trends' makes the value drop in my opinion.

it's like that silly restaurant  meme video where some guy is eating a burger and says "something - like a boss"
the marketing team thinks they're hip and all but it's just pathetic.

a bit of a ramble, I'm not trying to convince you to think otherwise, I just fail to understand how anyone could find anything More interesting just because they're using trendy words.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: People buying on higher price on: June 15, 2018, 04:21:22 PM
people are buying constantly, but sometimes there's too many people selling and the price drops, right?
the influx of people who don't know what they're investing in caused fomo in the start of the year, and panic selling when price dropped.
then they'll come back to buy once it goes up again.

it's the natural cycle, people who don't care and just buys when the media tells you to, that's when it's actually time to sell..  Roll Eyes
623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Perspective about HODL. on: June 15, 2018, 04:07:43 PM
Interesting never knew its short form of “Hold on for dear life” lol, how are you so sure about the post screenshot though? good information.

HODL doesn't originally have a meaning, as said in this post: it's was just a typo. The acronym was just made because the slang term HODL became so famous.

With that said, I still cringe whenever I read the term HODL. Not to mention hearing it on live television. Yikes.

It's good to see I'm not alone with this feeling, I've never heard it on television but seeing sites like etherscan adding "TOP 100 HODLers" just drags down the 'professional' feeling.

624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin down to the price of $ 6000, is this a sign of BItcoin going to slump de on: June 15, 2018, 03:58:38 PM
Look back in history and you'll see people asked this every time after a large drop, $10 to $1, $1000 to $200, $20000 to $6000,  what'll it be next year? $100,000 to $20,000 "is bitcoin dying"  Cool
625  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding MERIT- what you NEED to know! on: June 15, 2018, 04:34:54 AM
I see so many full member and hero and legendary member spamming as well. They had high ranks just meant they've been here long enough, doesnt mean they contributed alot. I see new member getting treated as second class citizen all the way from simple sarcasm to insulting from old member. I think merit system is good, but could be done better.

if people post stupid shit then old or new members might insult them, surely that would apply to old members posting stupid stuff aswell, why not?
it's probably more related to old members in general having a better idea how to behave on the forum, and therefore they don't post stupid stuff as much.

and second class citizens is hardly a point to complain about. everyone here is an individual, old members aren't tied up into some collaborative network to oppress newbies,
it seems like there's just such a huge influx of new accounts from people who can't even speak english and I guess that influences older member's subconciously to not be as positive to them.
People who has been here for a good while and seen the forum go from probably a rather serious/technical forum to all this spam in every thread, they might be a bit annoyed with every post being made a 100th time and such.

if a newbie or old member makes a good post, that should be the same in the sense of reception. although I do imagine the avatar adds a bit of value when judging the content of a post,
I usually assume people with avatars know what they're talking about  Roll Eyes

(I'm new too but I'm not complaining and I don't know how the forum was before, just guessing)

627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: when is the right time to buy altcoin on: June 14, 2018, 04:25:07 PM
Right now is a pretty good time. don't go all in at once, buy every now and then and thus get an average price in.
but in my personal opinion, if you are planning to drop a large amount of money, we're not far from the floor now I believe, but some believe we'll reach $5k or lower.
noone can tell you, you need to your decision or you're in for a bad time  Grin
628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you thing BTC will reach a new ATH this year? on: June 14, 2018, 04:22:44 PM
Bitcoin and the entire crypto market as a whole is still very small. around 800b was the peak, I think? now 270b.
Apple's stock is like 900b alone.

even if Bitcoin isn't considered the best crypto by people today, it's still the giant and bitcoin aswell as as crypto as a whole should easily be able to 10x before we the need to cut out the real bad ones comes..
629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin and crypto currency ALWAYS getting hacked?? on: June 14, 2018, 05:06:40 AM
Really, what a stupid post. Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
funny personal text you're using considering your post..
630  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Myetherwallet alternatives on: June 14, 2018, 05:02:11 AM
MEW is perfectly safe as long as you bookmark the URL and never try to type in the address manually. I know too many people have lost their tokens by typing the wrong URL.

well that's not entirely true since keyloggers and dns hacks(apparently) can still make you lose your money.
hardware wallets are the way to go i think, or a paper wallet (if you know what you are doing and not using a sketchy platform to generate it to begin with)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3576100 some more wallet stuff  Grin
631  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone use this site? on: June 14, 2018, 05:00:36 AM
that's a pretty common scam scheme, let people win alot but demand a deposit before you're allowed to withdraw.
usually they'll then say, oh to withdraw this much you need to deposit more.
but in the end you can't withdraw anything.

without investigating the site, how would you win a few btc without investing something?
and logically, why would they need you to deposit first?
632  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Hocus Focus Locus on: June 14, 2018, 04:55:39 AM
There's some interesting news/issue that my close friend told me about distribution of bounties in different campaign. He said that, sometimes the bounty manager or co-manager are intentionally change the ETH address (usually on xls document ) of some long inactive participant of the campaign and post the error encounter about the transaction. If that specific participant did not respond or complain, that bounty will be no longer exist or they will take it on their pocket for selfish reason. Human has a greedy part of brain, specially when money is involve. What do you think?

I think we need to move away from Excel spreadsheets into an online tracking system, complete with change history.

Something could easily be developed (i'm sure there are services out there that would work already) but how will you get usually greedy people to spend a few extra dollars?

I guess if someone is worried about that type of thing should start by taking an screenshot of his user on the sheet.

There are a few platforms for bounty control already there. The one I like most is the one on the campaign I am in right now because it provides daily stats of your posts and stakes and I find it quite trustworthy. Obviously it can´t check quality automatically, so the managers have to work on that (or should).

a screenshot wouldn't do much i think, who would listen?
wouldn't a bounty manager's word generally be valued over a random bounty participant?
since one can easily just right click, inspect element, paste an address and therefore do this on any entries and take a screenshot and pretend that the bounty manager changed various things "later" (not just address but for example, reward amount for article quality etc)

seems like bounty managers who do this would in general not be appearing very professional, hard to know, but it seems like ico's employing bounty managers should ensure they take the high reputable ones and not just the cheapest  Huh

634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about mainnet of EOS? on: June 14, 2018, 04:48:38 AM
isn't all this voting stuff going on on the eos blockchain really weird? people are supposedly going to lose tokens if their vote on a wrong provider or something?
635  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hits a new low since 2016 on: June 14, 2018, 04:47:28 AM
looking at the historical graphs, this happens kinda yearly, but it's always a with higher lows and higher highs!
shaking out the weak people is good so we can have a new bullrun maybe  Grin
636  Other / Serious discussion / Re: If crypto in the future is the world currency, what about the government? on: June 14, 2018, 01:46:11 AM
Sure. There will still be a governance system. Blockchain will assume a centralized nature like the fiat. The government will have to in someway introduce even taxes. On of the reasons why most governments are fighting against bitcoin is its nature of decentralization, and it brings no income to the economy of the country.

but the country involves all people in it, not just the government.
maybe we don't need a government in the future?  Roll Eyes
637  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Crypto revival instead of ICO on: June 12, 2018, 06:37:35 AM
well, the point of crypto is that it's open? anyone can basically copy any other code and continue, with or without a team in place. (I mean, why would people hold something without a team?)

but to fund it is another question, if it's community driven (initially atleast), it could be enough to move the price up and in that way it could then be used to fund continued development from a smaller team (the best of the community)?
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: why does coins change price constantly? on: June 12, 2018, 06:36:16 AM
if you are talking about the prices changing so very much, it's probably tied to the market volume still being relatively small (in comparison to other markets),
I think that explains why a small group of whales can themselves make the price crash by selling, then they can buy back more at a lower price.
639  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can we 100% trust hardware wallets? on: June 11, 2018, 12:40:30 PM
The best thing you can do is to make your crypto transactions from a computer you never use otherwise. If all the people want to trust hardware wallets, especially if they are transacting actively all the days, they have to remember they are a black-box that they don’t know what vulnerabilities they have.

still possible to be hacked in some way with a phishing site or a physically installed virus and such, while a hardware wallet can be plugged in to the worst virus computer in the world with no risk involved.
640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie question for Bounty signature on: June 11, 2018, 09:23:34 AM
there's no global rules for how bounties are done, you should ask the bounty manager.
but generally, I think the answer is yes, you'd still receive the stakes for those two weeks.
