It's not a replacement for bitcoin. It rides on top of bitcoin. It requires the bitcoin network to function.
Now as far as mastercoin itself, in simplistic terms, it works by injecting extra data into the bitcoin block chain. It's able to do that through somewhat of a loophole that has existed for a while in the protocol... Some of the core bitcoin developers frown upon the practice.
It's entirely within the realm of possibility that they eventually close the loophole that allows mastercoin to function.

I've been thinking about investing in Mastercoin, and I have a few questions:
1. Why is 1 MSC already priced at 0.17 BTC, which is way above all other altcoins? You can't even trade mastercoins on any exchange yet. I realize that MSC has a lot of advanced features, so are investors expecting it will actually become worth more than a bitcoin? Could somebody comment on what would be a realistic upper limit for how much a mastercoin could eventually be worth relative to a bitcoin, and why? Speculation. I don't think it's worth the price right now. 2. Why has there been so little discussion in the media about mastercoin? The price of a mastercoin is way higher than a litecoin, but litecoin has received much more attention in the media than mastercoin. Why?
3. Is mastercoin intended to eventually replace bitcoin, i.e. like a new and improved version of bitcoin, or just to be another competing altcoin? From what I've read about MSC, I get the impression that it's actually not a separate currency at all, but more like an upgrade to BTC. Thoughts?
Most people on this forum don't even understand what mastercoin is, or how it works... Let alone the media. It's not a coin like Litecoin, so that comparison is flawed. Mastercoin rides on top of the bitcoin protocol, similar to how HTTP rides on top of TCP/IP.

The problem with freicoin is that the demurrage discourages investment in it. Being that you can't really spend them anywhere right now, you're just buying a depreciating asset.
I don't see it taking off because of that.

267000 blocks x 25 coins per block = About 6.6m total coins

The Chinese are indiscriminately pumping money into altcoins.
They love to gamble.

TIX going from $30k market cap to nearly $4 million in the last week is what I'm on Stablecoin on track to do the same. It's market cap was $50k this morning, and now it's sitting at about $300k.

I get that question a lot.. In terms of altcoins, LTC, SBC are my main holdings right now. I also have a moderate amount of QRK, DGC.. And a small amount of PPC. Right now, I expect SBC to be the best performer. With only 6 million coins in existence, a price target of $0.50 or even $1.00 is very reasonable, judging by similar coins on http://coinmarketcap.com . At the moment, each coin is still only about 2 cents. So there's plenty of room for it to grow. Mind you the price is up over 200% since I posted my article... The party has yet to get started though.

I very much like what the site represents. However, I find it rather biased that the site is not showing Ripple as a crypto currency. And that -sorry- is simply bull shit. ALL the way down on the page you can click a small link stating "Looking for Ripple?" http://coinmarketcap.com/ripple.html. "YES", I might add - I was looking for Ripple! I guess, the owner of the site is strongly biased AGAINST Ripple. Okay, you may be so, and it's a free country you live in (I suppose). Now don't claim you don't have a bias against Ripple, since if not, you would not have added some exotic "Emerald" coin with a current market cap of just $1,122 on the page, but were just "omitting" Ripple with a current market cap of $ 1,119,676,268. (That is: SECOND in place after BTC and way ahead of LTC and the likes). I know, I know: Ripple is still in it's infancy, and in bèta. Both owners of XRP and RippleLabs will be the first to admit that: "YES, it is. Still. Though not for long." If you need to, put that as extra info in. But let's be real... Ripple is FAR, FAR (!) ahead in its development and future potential than any "Emeralds" or other BTC-spinoff (like LTC). Oops.. probably I'll now get cursed for that by some of the "other altcoin" evangelists. To all those potential cursers - FYI in advance: - I'm a really big advocate of BTC, for the quick trading profits that it has given me so far; - I'm an even a bigger advocate of Ripple, and that is for the long haul capital preservation opportunity it provides (BTC is currently way too volatile for that IMHO).
These two crypto currencies will rule. They work. And if you can't deal with that, then get a life. To the website owner: put Ripple in right away, please! (Be it with an extra "in bèta" if you feel the need to do so.) You'd be much more credible doing so. There's a reason that shit is hidden. Mainly because nowhere near all 100 billion ripples are out in the open, so that figure is wildly inaccurate.

I'd strongly recommend it. Mark my words, this coin is going to skyrocket, similar to how Quark just did.

This is huge news... SBC is still dirt cheap on Cryptsy. Expect some serious growth in the days to come.

Those who were smart enough to buy in after my article yesterday saw a nice 400% return on their investment. Wonder how high this rally can go? Quark has truly risen from the grave. This coin wasn't even on my radar a week ago.

not really sticking up for real solid hes a sound guy though but ok maybe the fee shares messsed up but if he wanted to scam thousands of coins he could of easily but he didnt
That is exactly what you are doing, he was given opportunity, he had the means and motive also so.....he took the coins. And your saying he didnt? well im saying i didnt invest in the feeshares myself but in altcoins he could of easily pulled out thousands of btc worth of altcoins no1 complained about any missing so what wud be his motive to scam That only creates more trouble for him. He's already swindled BTC to the tune of $11,000,000... No point in stealing those coins.
