641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | 50% cooler/50% less wattage than scryp on: March 14, 2014, 09:06:29 AM
That poster on /r/bitcoin admitted that the latest DarkSend is indeed decentralized but pointed out that the specs don't mention anything about signing. As mentioned in gmaxwell's original post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279249.0), blind signatures are needed to truly prevent anyone from learning the sender-receiver mapping. Does DarkSend implement blind signatures? If not, are there plans to introduce it?

Evan isn't doing a straight coinjoin.  He had an epiphany and realized a simple but wholly effective solution, which you can see on the first page.  It does require, at the moment at least, a master (wallet I believe) to function as intermediary or the "pool pot"

The use of darksend starts off with denomination of your balance, which means your coins are grouped and accounted for in fresh transaction numbers in denominations of 1000, 100, 10, 1, .1, .01 etc... so you can't see, when a transaction starts, where the original coins came from.  They go into the pools without a history and with a random single use account number (used only once, the change will have to be re-denominated in the future to be a part of a rounded amount (100, 10, etc...) and it's history will once again be wiped.

Once the payee's money leaves the pot to go on it's way, the "change" is sent back to the original sender using another random throw away address.  There is no way to know what happened and who sent what unless you know the secret (were the sender)  then you can see your coins being transferred (you still won't know which of the 100's 10's etc... was yours though)

I hope if there is a hole to be found that it's found sooner than later, though!

Yes, I know V3 changed the implementation. This is a different issue. All these transactions need to be signed off to be valid in the network. If they're not blind signatures, then the signing party can see what's going on.

Cryptsy's bots are funny. They really like to put in orders for amounts of 0.26/0.27 DRK for some reason.

Does this stratum issue require any action from miners? E.g. do we need to download a new sgminer or change the stratum+tcp address? I'll be gone for 3 weeks and I hope I can just keep my miner running 24/7 as it is.
645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | 50% cooler/50% less wattage than scryp on: March 13, 2014, 07:26:40 AM
The kgw exploit is real.

The problem is that the software will accept blocks that are timestamped earlier than previous blocks, (for good reasons) up to the median timestamp of the previous 11.

Kgw counts these as very fast blocks and adjusts the difficulty up by its 20% maximum.  Once.   But you can use that once to roll the timestamp back after five blocks that are long enough to drive the difficulty 20%lower each.

So the exploit is to start mining your own block chain, time stamping several blocks into the future far enough to get the maximum downward adjustment of difficulty each time.  Then jump backwards in time getting the maximum upward difficulty once.  Rinse, repeat,  and your chain gets ridiculous low difficulty and you mine a whole lot of blocks while advancing your timestamp not much further than the main chain.

When the time in the main block chain catches up, you release your own chain and force a reorganization, which allocates to you all the coins mined for the last umpty ump blocks.

I'm in the process of rewriting KGW for our purposes. I've spend a few hours thoroughly going through the code and I think I can come up with a better implementation that doesn't have these kind of problems. DarkGravity?  Grin

Evan... That's epic!  DarkGravity!  Nice!

You should open source the code for DarkGravity for others to adopt when done. It's good PR for you and DRK. The only thing I know about MegaCoin is that they gave the world KGW. Tongue

lol am I the only one seeing DRK recover hilariously on its own? WTF.

wat

We were at 12xx yesterday and now we're at 149xx... Above vert and worldcoin on marketcap.

Too early to say anything. Day-to-day prices are mostly noise.

Offering 210,000 BTC for 1 million Deletes.

Edit: I misread. Apparently I need to offer 21 million BTC for 1 million Deletes. Sad

At long last I finished the one-pager for Darkcoin.

You can see the doc here:
http://wowgwow.com/Darkcoin-one-pager.pdf
http://wowgwow.com/Darkcoin-one-pager.docx

From experience, having all the most processed and digested info on one-page makes it very easy for journalists, bloggers, readers etc. to tap in. I believe this will make our marketing efforts much easier.

Since neither English nor technology are my first "languages", please feel free to rephrase anything.

My 2cents.
If you can rephrase that in layman's terms (something new to crypto would understand, like analogies to common stuff - especially darksend), I'm more than happy to make an infographic out of it.
I tried to reach a balance between layman's terms for newbies, and more technical details for those seeking in-depth understanding. As for Darksend explanation, I copied what the devs gave... BUT i encourage you to do an infographics. The worst [best] that can happen is that you will get feedback and be able to make it better. Go ahead...

In the one pager, need to change spelling of COMPETITIVE.

I am happy to edit for professional English and good communication. I have done this for a number of currencies' sites and promotions. I understand aspects of Cryptos as well as being a writer... just let me know how.
With pleasure!
Simply open the word file [link above], correct whatever you find fit [if possible with 'track changes', but not a must], save, and send it back to me at:
info[at]one-pager.net

I will keep an updated version online with all the changes and corrections people give.

chompyZ, the implementation of DarkSend since beta v3 is different than what's described here. Now Payer 1 wouldn't send 55.30 DRK, but instead send exactly 100 DRK to the pool. So would payers 2, 3, 4, and so on. Their intended recipients get the exact amount from the combined pool with the appropriate change sent back to each sender to one of their hidden address. See the image in the first post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4585001#msg4585001). This is a much higher quality of anonymity than the previous implementation.

Why not use both? Plenty of organizations have multiple versions of logos. When you need a little "icon-like" logo, use the vectorized flat logo. When you need it to be big and attention-drawing, use the 3D metallic logo. Honestly the current logo looks nice when it's huge, but considerably less so when it's scaled down like in the top corner here: http://darkcoin.us/io/

Also,
+1 for Latin phrase on the back!
-1 for putting Duffield's name. I mean no disrespect at all, but DarkCoin should be portrayed as standing for an abstract idea (privacy), rather than as a project. It has more gravitas that way.

I do 40MH on 4770K est 65 DRK per day.
Who did more with 10 X 290X, a?
 Grin Grin Grin
knew ofc no one
 Grin

Bullshit, got the same CPU, it's about 400KH not MH !

You're sounding about right . . each haswell core should be getting around 50kh. Im guessing you're talking about using all 8 cores at once. Ivy bridge cores only get me about 29k/core . . so it kinda sucks to see my 4820k only get about 200k# on 7 cores. Guess I could try OC'ing it but no water cooler so I can't really go too far.

Are you using the latest miner? It's 1.3 avx-aes on the OP. I went from 142 kH/s to 380 kH/s on a stock i7-2600K when I upgraded to that.

Interesting find by some Vertcoin user on reddit: https://i.imgur.com/2azh8An.png

A Chinese Vertcoin community of 900+ that they weren't aware of! (For comparison, their primary meeting spot is reddit's /r/vertcoin and has about 3000 subscribers).

I look forward to having our own parallel Chinese community. DRK is more of a "fuck you, government" currency than just about any other crypto. Perfect for China once Bter and BTC38 wake up. Part of our donation pot needs to go towards incentivizing Chinese translations.

someone said that our drk can be mined with new asic scrypt miner, is it true guys? Grin
If it's built for scrypt, it's a 0 kH/s paperweight for DRK. An ASIC can only do one unalterable set of operations.

I'm pondering your idea... I definitely like the idea (as I wait for my BTC to post to cryptsy) ... But I think you would need a certain amount of each currency to exchange with yourself... But if you had it... why not? What if Darksend could add a second conversion value for a transaction, allowing any other currency to "piggyback" on it... Imagine the pool having not just Darkcoins, but BTC, LTC, DOGE, etc all in each transaction. More layers of concealment... But you WOULD have to make sure that the current pool could support your transaction... and how could you make sure that the conversion wasn't being gamed? You wouldn't want to use a fixed rate, that would be self-defeating.... Hmmm....

BTC/Altcoin -> Counterparty -> DRK
DarkSend that shit
Darksend that shit again (why not?)
DRK -> Counterparty -> BTC/Altcoin

Basically, use DRK for the DarkBank and then just withdraw it as you need it into the other cryptos. That's my plan, anyway.

I should add, the whole point of Dark is that the mixing is decentralized. In order to accomplish what you and the other guy are pondering, you must trust 3rd parties again, which isn't optimal.

Can you explain Counterparty to me? Their topic/site isn't very helpful.
