Time for bears to admit defeat, grab what they can and hold on for the ride.

1, 2, and 4 exist in the staff forum. 3 was permanently deleted at some point (it must have contained Satoshi's real name and address).
I have never seen this post in my life. The post #3 on bitcointalk contained Satoshi's Real name and his address.
That post was in Staff Forum. Maybe sirius knows who he is  Roll Eyes

Only nine pages? That Satoshi dude sure didn't know how to start something popular...

I don't know if we are ever going to be rid of this. I just don't. Sad

Don't waste your time!... Better off talking to a brick wall!..

If anyone from ripple cares to explain to me how I can get at the free ripple I got in the giveaway when the web wallet I used doesn't even have a live webpage anymore, I still probably wouldn't give much of a damn. Meanwhile my bitcoins lie silently sleeping...

Ethereum very nearly did the same thing to me.

Where did you get that tile?

Nah, it would be Small, Medium and Big Mack

That sounds too simple.

I feel like we glossed over the whole small mac idea and I am not comfortable with that.

Wouldn't a small Big Mac just be a Mac?

In 2014 the entire country of Ukraine was annexed by the US through classic coup d'état. Russia just saved Russian people in Crimea and Donbas from living in the American colony of Ukraine (aka Nulandistan).

I'm not making a judgement, I'm just saying that any "give-away" reason is just a pretext.

While the meat patty is not the most unhealthy component of their burgers. Fructose loaded buns, sweetened salad, not to speak of the "sauces".
It's the carbs that do most of the harm, not the meat.

Whereas my meat and buns are equally devastating.

Well they were kind of forced to do that. Ukraine was not willing to let Crimea be independent, and there would have been a lot of bloodshed. And by law, the Crimean give-away was legally void. So either Russia took Crimea or would have watched Crimea turn into a bloodbath. As I said, I have yet to hear a single Crimean complain about the annexation.

Crimea giveaway - 1954
USSR collapse - 1988-1991
Crimea annexation by Russian Federation - 2014

I'd say "by law" didn't have too much to do with it by that point. Same old rule of conquest. If you can keep it, it's yours.

Because there will always be nodes trying to draw traffic, so there is always a fee sale somewhere. See what I mean? Since pathfinding is markets on FAST FORWARD there will not be choke points like there are in the current system.

A lot of the problem is that due to the lack of a full Bitcoin "ecosystem", payments tend to go in one direction. If you're having fee sales to rebalance channels, they are likely to also only be in one direction also. This also means you'll probably just be eating someone else's lunch who will have to rebalance on-chain (however that's achieved). Though that may still be a better financial option than having fire sales.

In a way, it's not unlike the current issue with unavailability of u-haul trucks out of California (up to something like 10x the usual cost in some areas). I wonder if there are meaningful lessons to be drawn from that.

I know that Elwar sold his house for bitcoin around that time. Not sure about the origins of the house.

This is all you need anyway

Also the photo not being a perfect top view might also not make the error apparent.

There's like a dent where the top left-radius meets the top. I figured that might just be an illusion of perspective though.

THE SOLAR is what my partners and I do.

Anyone that understands what you are showing knows that all anti BTC info in terms of power wasted is a lie.

Leaved un repaired holes in the ground for more than a century was a huge incentive for coal mining.

instead of that build solar fields with proper incentives if they mine 50% and sell power to the grid 50%

problems solved.

Meh, kind-of a red herring. Those holes can be repaired and can end up looking like pristine countryside within a couple of decades. Then there's also the fact that your solar panels require minerals that need mining.

Not that I'm against solar. I'm just a cynic.

Speaking of Lightning, when will it get mainstream? I mean, yesterday I wanted to pay for a Discord nitro which costed $4 and the guy didn't even know what Lightning is.  Huh

Yes. I paid on-chain...

Have you not been paying attention?

18 months.

Dave from eevblog just revealed that when you get a youtube silver plaque, you get to enter whatever name you like to be engraved on it. I'm sure Craig Wright will get right on that.

Well, it finally happened. I am Corona positive.

This is almost as much of a bummer as BTC not reaching 100k last year. Angry

Take two of these and call me in the morning.

I do gather that you, richie, are inclined to follow the price follows hashrate nonsense,

Let me stop you right there. That is by no means the case and I don't believe I have ever stated anything that could even be construed as such.

As far as I'm concerned, we're in a process where Bitcoin is trying to find where its price matches its value (and I believe we are quite a long way yet) via the market discovery process. Along the way that will be moderated by a variety of mechanisms which I won't go into here but a little logic shows that this can only be accomplished via a volatile process (how volatile it needs to be is an interesting question but the actuality is that it has been violently volatile). This process seems to be fairly well divorced from the hashrate.

Now, the mechanism for hashrate seems to be "If Bitcoin is profitable, buy more equipment". That does potentially link hashrate and price (but not in the direction that the opinion you incorrectly ascribe to me would suggest). However, as Bitcoin as near as dammit always been profitable, the restricting factor has been equipment availability which has lead to a total divorce between the two concepts. I will say that on at least one occasion, miners have surprised me by being willing to be patient for future profits rather than following pragmatism but they surely had good reason and that doesn't really affect things much.
660  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2022, 04:47:41 PM
base cost of a coin should help miners to determine whether they are going to mine or not mine.... including help them to decide the extent to which they will expand or shrink operations or attempt to make their operations more efficient in order to attempt to be profitable.

While this is basically true, it's worth noting that mining expansion has typically been limited by equipment availability (once things got past the initial "anyone interested in this thing?" phase). This has lead to mining not quite following price which may partly explain the misapprehension of price following hash.
