641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XSPEC] Spectrecoin | Untraceable Tx | Ring Signatures | Tor Integration on: August 11, 2017, 12:49:26 PM
I am still waiting for Mac and linux version.

From the website (https://spectreproject.io/download/):

Quote
macOS builds of 1.3 will be released on August 12, 2017. A packaged source release will follow.

On Linux you can easily build the wallet using the instructions from jbg above.

Thanks for the hard work guys, glad to see another great update. Is this update supposed to work on Linux? I had a hell of a time getting it to compile. It runs but does not show any balance, even after backup/restore the wallet.dat and resynching the block chain. Also when launching from the CLI it shows an error something about obfs4 not found, however in the GUI it says tor+obfs4 so I'm not sure how to confirm obfs4 is actually working.

There's a Linux source release coming soon, which will include docs for compilation, but in brief it is:

Code:
qmake OPENSSL_INCLUDE_PATH=/path/to/openssl-1.0/include/files OPENSSL_LIB_PATH=/path/to/openssl-1.0/lib/files BDB_INCLUDE_PATH=/path/to/bdb-4.8/include/files BDB_LIB_PATH=/path/to/bdb-4.8/lib/files
make -j2  # or however many CPUs you have

OpenSSL 1.0 is a requirement for now, like with most altcoins, but we plan to move to 1.1 for our 1.4 release. Similarly with BDB 4.8, we plan to move to a current 5.x release for our 1.4 release.

The "OBFS4 not found" message is nothing to worry about, we only enable it when necessary (i.e. where Tor is blocked). If you're in a country that doesn't block Tor there is no advantage gained by using OBFS4 and it slows down communication resulting in slower sync speed.

See my previous message regarding your zero balance.

Hey jbg, nice to see you here! Welcome to Bitcointalk.  Smiley

I really like idea of websites on blockchain but whith this DEV this whith never hapend. Will come others and copy this project because this Jon Dev is not a good developer. ALL the coin he worked are dead: BINARY coin  dead.  020 LONDON coin dead. HIRO coin dead. Gram coin dead.  you can check youself his project on cryptocoderz.com page.  I dont say he is scammer or something. But he is not so good developer. Espers need more good developers.

https://github.com/bitcoinx2/Espers/wiki/FAQ#18-all-others-cryptocoderz-projects-are-dead-are-they-scammers-or-incompetent

Maybe the website would be better off just listing the currently maintained projects though.

Just discovered the new homepage, a little bit too minimal for my taste, but I like the new roadmap.
Especially:
1.5 (January 2018)
Hardware wallet support

I hope this means trezor! Thumps up!

I don't think it's too minimalistic. It displays a very neat philosophy of "do only one thing, but do it well"! No Javascript, PHP, analytics, external resources being pulled etc. No bullshit. Static website. Following this philosophy has also motivated them to list removing the QtWebkit dependencies in the roadmap for version 1.4, for example. Generally, reducing complexity reduces maintenance effort in the future and most importantly, avoid bugs and security issues. Displaying this philosophy in the homepage design makes me as an semi-professional investor very excited.
645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XSPEC] Spectrecoin | Untraceable Tx | Ring Signatures | Tor Integration on: August 08, 2017, 12:23:21 PM
This is common occurrence on qt wallets when they get interrupted

Yes... if one really wants to innovate, changing this would be one of my goals. Using a much more robust database format. Maybe I will actually make my own coin at some point.  Cheesy Putting a focus on simplicity and robustness, as well as noob-friendliness.

Another thing would be separating the wallet code from the blockchain. Everyone clones the Qt wallet code nowadays, which is not really necessary.

Jesus Christ, how many days is it going to take more to have a good news on updates here. Each week passes by without an update loses confidence in the devs even further

I understand you, but patience is a virtue in software development as well as investing. Being impatient doesn't change anything, except spreading bad mood.

Regarding confidence, you're not quite right. My confidence is better now than a month ago, because devs started to communicate more often in Slack. They're keeping everyone up to date and explained exactly what causes the delays. It feels pretty good. From an investors point of view, this is almost exactly the same situation as during ICO. Good communication, but only few people are there to listen. Who made huge profit when they finally delivered. So now would be a good moment to invest IMO.  Wink Just saying.

Q: Do you see espers technology speaking competing with the likes of nem or other similar coins in the future say 2-3 years down the line?
A: I see Espers being the replacement for server hosting and other data storage/deliver venues in that sort of time frame, which is the goal anyway.

When that happens, the sky is the limit I assume. Shocked It's closer to the current internet infrastructure than Ethereum.

We need an exchange https://bittrex.com !!!!
we need exchange for what?!! No we dont need exchange. We need a new DEV. One professional and who develop something good for this project. Now we just have a dead DEV.

I have made a small FAQ that covers the questions that are most frequently asked here:

https://github.com/bitcoinx2/Espers/wiki/FAQ

Please take a look. Feedback is welcome. I will post this here whenever a question gets asked that I have answered in this FAQ.

Code:
Smiley :)It's funny how ESP is listed 236th in market cap, while BCH the new spin off getting all the hype in the new is still struggling to stay below a market cap of #800 just shows me how ESP is going to be a huge player sooner then later. This will be the last chance you'll have as I know of two investment groups that I belong to are eyeing the work being done on ESP. I really thing things will start showing good with ESPERS!!!

I'm out, Espers has no way of surviving ever again. Thanks God I could sell it at 5!!! Anyway, large investors are getting out, even this new Chinese knock-off of bitcoin cash is getting more successful that a project that is ridiculously adding up a inflation of 25% per year, and having YoBit.net listed on the wrong chain, which is not as dishonourable as you all say on this thread (I'm not blessing them either, just trying to be objective) is not making any favour to the project.

A friend of mine had bought 119.000.000 Espers and later got a bit more on YoBit and when he found out about having TWO SEPARATE CHAINS, he got really annoyed, since he could not recover the money from YoBit nor exchange it to the new chain. This guy is a large fish, and I can guarantee you all that since then he has dumped or will be dumping the 119 Million anytime soon. I see price going down until it adjusts with YoBit pricing. This project has no way of surviving the other way around. You can blame YoBit, and I'm not excusing them in any possible way, but sadly, they are quite long in the industry and have many more options than Espers to survive.

From my point of view, this project has no way of succeeding until this issue with YoBit (even delisting it should be good), and then it will allow place to grow and become successful. Otherwise, stay swamped in this situation. At the end, the only damage is for Espers, which further sinks its cap. If a wallet is in maintenance in YoBit you can also sell to Bitcoin and payout.

What do you suggest to make Yobit delist ESP? We've tried everything. We've offered them money just to delist it. They don't answer. What do you suggest?  Huh  Roll Eyes

We need an exchange https://bittrex.com !!!!

What do you suggest to make Bittrex list ESP?? We've talked to them. They said it's on their list and they'll consider it. What else do you want to do?  Huh

Don't look too much at the market guys. The market is stupid, it's FINE (fucked up, insecure, neurotic and emotional). People don't see Cryptocoderz throwing with updates so they panic. I've suggested to him to commit with git more often, let's see if that helps. Everything will be fine (which does NOT mean the above acronym  Wink).

SpectreCoin Update
07/29/2017
What a week it's been! It's an honor to be asked by jbg to assist in the Slack channel as an Administrator. I do appreciate all the support received so far from all of you. I promise to do my best to be fair but, at the same time deal with the distracting, off topic or very vulgar things that show up here from time to time. Please keep posts in the proper channel and have a great time!

I will keep the mop and broom handy and a warning will be given before the “ban hammer” is ever wielded.

@jbg Has advised that v1.3 has completed it's TOR update  and tested , bear in mind v1.3 is going to run on more OS platforms so all versions have to be tested. It's operation over Obsf4 is in final testing phase and it will be packaged and released in the next 72 hours.
The other code changes that required this time will make future updates much easier on the devs.

Until next week.....keep on staking!

Thanks for the first "weekly update", Beachguy! I really like this new style of communication (it was one of my suggestions  Wink), looking forward to the upcoming release which includes the OBFS4 protocol for using Spectre even in censored countries like China! JBG and you make a great team so far, while mandica takes her break.  Cool
many more countries will censor web-traffic in the future (Russia, USA?, ...) Embarrassed
Spectre will fly free like a bird Smiley

The really interesting part for Spectre starts when governments start to censor cryptocurrencies, which is not too far away in the future IMO.  Cheesy

att was a typo, meant ath.
APR: annual percentage rate, basically the yearly interest/dividen.

I don't know what 'ath' means, either.

The staking reward is roughly 25% per year. It's not an interest/dividend though, but part of the mining/minting process that is necessary to run the chain. It's technically rather inflation than a dividend. Coins are not stocks.

It´s sometimes funny how people will spend 2 btc to buy the coins. But not spend 0,1 btc to help it develop further.

The top 100 all have more than 35,000,000 esp2 coins. There have to be at least 7 of them that are willing to share 0,1 BTC (and get more back later if the coin gets more traction)

I don't think that paying an exchange so that they will "maybe" consider listing a coin which ends up being to their own profit is an efficient way to help a project. There are much better ways that also don't support the trend of crypto exchanges to rip off people in order to get their coins listed. This project is offering something for free; nobody should have to beg or pay to get their contribution recognized.

If I donate BTC, I do it to fund the developers or someone else who does valuable work for the project.

I am staking 400k coins 24/7 since 7 days, my reward time sometimes goes to 4 hours and then changes back to 2 days...
I haven't received staking rewards yet Sad
All the other coins I started staking with since 7 days got rewards. 1337, RDD, Blitz, Grc,...
Only espers is giving me nothing.

You have very few coins

now you're hurting my feelings Cry
I could have had more than a million but I managed to buy the att...
What is the APR for this coin? How much would you recommend to buy?

I don't know what an "att" or "APR" is, but there is no minimum amount of coins to be able to stake. A fix to the current PoS system is probably coming next week or so.

This is a chance to buy a esp2 at such a price

I agree that ESP may be undervalued but I'm far from giving investment advice here  Wink Buy as much as you like, or not.
659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XSPEC] Spectrecoin | Untraceable Tx | Ring Signatures | Tor Integration on: July 27, 2017, 06:41:08 PM
Is there a linux wallet for new release?  I have a linux machine working for the whole day. If I have the linux wallet, I can run on my linux machine and get stake.

On Linux you can just compile it yourself, it's not a big deal. Just clone the Git repo, all required info is inside the readme files. Having a general linux build is difficult because all distributions are technically different operating systems.

I don't usually use this forum to post stuff, I just use it as a source of useful information. Now I really have some things to say, so I made an account  Smiley

If you really want people to "buy" what this project is selling, start treating things with more professionalism. In my opinion, this coin would be a great one if it will be developed what's said on the announcement, it has great potential, by looking at the definition of this project. On the other hand, I cannot say that I get the same vibe looking on how the communication between the official team and the community is done. I also don't feel the professionalism that this project should be handled with (I repeat, this could be a GREAT project).

People here are not asking for huge results over the night. I am aware that good work takes time, but also clear and informative updates toward the community (coming from the official team) is very useful and good for reputation. Even if those updates are not necessarily saying: "BIG STUFF COMING IN NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS" but instead says: "There is progress on X subject and it will be done until next month", this would be more useful on the long term, because it denotes professionalism and trustworthy team. It's like that story when a guy yells "WOLF" three times.. after the third time nobody believes him. This is the current situation on this project, for two months we get the same answers to the same questions. For example, Paper will be done in the next couple of days. It's been two months now. If you would have been more realistic, and gave the people the real estimation and not what they WANT to hear, this would have done more good on long term to the project. Instead, people got the opposite message.

I'm not here to spread hate on this project, on the contraire, I'm here to try to help by making constructive feedback (if taken in consideration).

That being said, I hope the official team changes their approach and start to do things is a more professional way.

PS: I'm a big time holder, could have made 30x profit with a big initial investment but i'm holding, because i still believe this project could deliver something HUGE if things starts to change (otherwise 8-9x profit it's still a good point to get out for me) Smiley

Cheers!

You are totally right. The topic of making unrealistic predictions has already been addressed and will be handled differently by CryptoCoderz in the future. Updates are a more difficult thing because often CryptoCoderz (who is working at the core of the software) has a lot of things to do and writing forum posts may not be his #1 hobby  Wink I agree that more frequent updates would be helpful though, but you cannot force him to do it. If the software is developed and the results are good, that is all we can ask for atm. The "interviews" that take place each Wednesday (and are posted here) are already the result of a similar suggestion, and should provide a good amount of details into the current development progress once a week.
