681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: February 04, 2021, 02:02:22 PM
I thought it was 16.04...  Yikes...you are correct (well why wouldnt you be)....just checked 14.04

Either way it only works with older cards.  i run 5xx/10xx cards on my ethos rigs.  More modern cards are in mmpOS rigs as well as vegas cause i get 50+mhs on my vegas with mmpOS.

Ill run ethos until the cards wont mine....those rigs are well roi’d.

There was prelim support to 20xx but never worked well.

Ethos has been as solid as one could ever hope.  And still running the most recent miners thanks to the miner-manager script.

For the 60 licenses i own..i got my moneys worth no doubt.

The buisness model didnt afford income over time...but did sell really well.  Probably the best eth mining system of the day.  The subscription model keep revenue rolling in so updates occur.

ETHOS IS BUILT ON UBUNTU 14.04--

The Linux kernel in ethOS needs to be updated in order to install a more recent AMD graphics driver.  The system was abandoned rather than upgraded to a current Linux kernel.       --scryptr

does anyone know:

1) how to see the current driver version on ETHOS 1.3.3
2) how to upgrade/downgrade the AMD drivers

Tks

Whats causing you trouble?  Ive had no real problems have had to move a few off
claymore due to not all cards firing.  Loaded up Phoenix (5.1c) works fine with my rx5xx cards andven my vegas(will be moving those to a new rig with 5700xts)....just curios. because ive not had any issues with the drivers.

Just curious.  My plan is to keep ethos going as long as i can....its been a real workhorse.   And its all paid for.

The only problem that I found is not a problem, but a better performence using 20.3 drivers on HIVEOS against ETHOS (some cards are faster on HIVEOS - Same config)

There are things to look out for here, if you have low power supply like 500 watts it's better to set up two rigs because this power supply can't power up to 6 GPUs, it's better to divide the GPUs on two motherboards, four here and there, also it's less stress work for two motherboards than one motherboard unless the motherboard you are using is made for mining purposes only

I do not agree.  And here is why.

Using risers removes all stress from the mobo.  13 gpus on risers are less stress on the mobo than a single gpu plugged directly in to the mobo.

Plus it helps spread out the gpus so they run cooler.

Less mobo / cpu / ram / psu / storage device = less cost and less wasted power.  Means more can go into gpus then being wasted on the support hardware.

There is no issue getting multiple psu to work together just some simple rules:

Best to use a Y or W 24pin adapter to sync 2 or 3 psus.  If using server psu then use the 4 pin link connection to main psu.
Always power mobo with the primary psu...connect no other psu to mobo unless it is via a Y or W 24pin cable.
Always power gpu & riser pair from the same PSU.
Do not overload wattage on any psu chain or connector.  Also known as do not use sata to power your riser or gpu.

And most important if building a rig use linux or a linux mining os...you can run from a thumbdrive and can run on pretty slow cpu...like celerons and pentiums and only need 4gb ram max.  Again use the least to get the most.

Of course this is just my opinion from running my little farm.

YMMV

Buy such a raiser and a 600 watt power supply.
I did not find in the specifications which power supply you are using now, but a power supply less than 400 watts will not be enough for your farm.
As a rule, BIOS setup is not needed.
I'm using 750 watt power supply and I believe this should be enough for up to 4 different gtx 1660 super or even 5 because each gtx1660 super are using only 82 watts per card and they are same brand with Micron memory

First pic down the page shows it.

It is screen printed right on the PCB.  Usually white print.

General setup for AMD bios for mining

    set IOMMU to ENABLE.
    set VIRTUALIZATION (C1E) to DISABLE.
set POWER CONTROL (SVM) to DISABLE.
set CPU UNLOCK to ENABLE (this may prevent CPU temp from being read properly).
set COOL AND QUIET to DISABLE.
set CPU CORE CONTROL equal to the amount of CORES PER PROCESSOR for your particular CPU make/model.
set ONBOARD AUDIO/SOUND (AZALIA) to DISABLE.
    set IEEE1394 to DISABLE.
set CPU FREQUENCY SCALING to DISABLE.
set CPU PERFORMANCE MODE to ENABLE.
    set FAST BOOT to DISABLE.

688  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: way to use all 8GB VRAM which is half disabled on P104-100 card on: February 01, 2021, 07:01:38 PM
i will try them out, i am getting a memory error, maybe card is broken

Your cards is not broken, you use wrong bios. You must use the right bios, or you will get memory errors, or card is instable, or have low hashrate and so on.

The good news is you can almost always flash it again and fix it with the right bios.
689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard won't boot with two GPUs installed on: February 01, 2021, 06:48:18 PM
PCIe x1 slots are usually limited to 25 Watts, GPUs require 75W from the slot, always use powered risers.

Yup...usually with dells if you look at the mobo between the slots it will have printed what watt limit is for that slot.

691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Linzhi Phoenix ETH Miner on: February 01, 2021, 04:12:25 PM
Hello, today I came across the news about a new ASIC miner for ETH.
Linzhi Phoenix ETH Miner 2600 MH/s ASIC for ETH mining
2600 MH/s / 3500W

The only place where it is offered is this site

I think it's fake news because the price is very low.
For comparison, the price of the Innosilicon A11 Pro 8GB 2000Mh is around € 18,000

The manufacture has not started sales yet.  I pulled the site from this quote as it is a scam site as this miner is not available for sale yet.

1) i wont repost scam links (consider removing it from your post/quote).
2) The manufacturers website states that they are not yet for sale...and anybody offering one is scamming.
3) Report the first post to mods here as scam
4) Profit!  Grin
692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rig won't post after installing 4th card on: February 01, 2021, 01:47:21 PM
Are you plugging all 4 directly in the mobo...if you are try using risers for some / all of the gpus.  When plugging directly into the pcie bus...it requires the mobo provide power through the pcie slots.  Riser remove this power draw from the pcie bus.

693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard won't boot with two GPUs installed on: February 01, 2021, 01:44:50 PM
You need to power the riser.

GPUs can draw up to 75w from the spcie slot.  The riser removes this load from the mobo and provides it by the riser but you gotta plug power to the riser.

I wonder if you are using a ribbon cable full slot extender instead of a usb cable type riser.  If using a full slot extender then the gpu will try to pull power from mobo...which it may not be able to provide.  Dell is not known for over building its systems.

694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.5c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: January 31, 2021, 07:44:29 PM
Hi,
i have installed a new rig with configuration:
asus p5q-e
3 rx480 (1 rx 480 nitro, 2 rx 480 blower
Windows 10
4Go ram

Drivers amd radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-20.12.1-win10-64bit-dec8
PhoenixMiner PhoenixMiner_5.5c_Windows_AMD_NVIDIA
But my hasrate is very low 24.591~

PhoenixMiner -pool eth-eu2.nanopool.org:9999 -wal 0x7B7819gdfgdfgdfgdfg5Cf925Eb010F4E31dC4D02 -worker Phoenix -epsw x -mode 1 -Rmode 1 -log 0 -mport 0 -etha 0 -retrydelay 1 -ftime 55 -tt 79 -tstop 89 -tstart 79 -coin eth

I can't install the drivers Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain because after reboot i have some artefact i can't see anything.
If you can help me ? Thank you

Go to amd panel and turn on compute mode.

Lol, apparently I am blind because I didn't saw that the unit is MH. Grin It looks realistic now and the profit is still good enough.

it was early but i was like no way its beating eth....and its not....but it may be rising in ghe world..

But the person that made that video is either an idjit or he is purposefully misleading peeps.

I suspect a rookie mistake....but clearly not anywhere near what he claims in profit.

697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8GB ASRock Radeon RX 570 Phantom Gaming on: January 31, 2021, 05:32:32 PM
Hi,

Im thiniking about mining ETH.

Can I still mine it with this gpu: 8GB ASRock Radeon RX 570 Phantom Gaming?

minerstat.com says that there could be a problem with dag size.

Yes 8gb should mine 30-32mhs.
Without BIOS mod? That's not going to be possible without a bios modding, I have few rx580 that I still can't flash BIOS because the cards lacks bios switch on them, if I screw up there won't be any easy way to recover back to Stock

What?  Save the bios first.  So what it doesnt have a switch...and even if you didnt save it techpowerup has pretty much every stock bios in exitense available for dl.

If it bricks they are recoverable...plenty of how to out there.

You fear the unknown but this is not unknown...just unknown to you...get to googling.

Espeically win 10 home.  The pro version allows group policy home does not.

I switched to linux years ago and have never worried about silly windows again.
I literally have a mining OS that hasnt been updated by maker since 2018...still runs strong today....with all the current miners.

Windows cant hold a candle to linux uptime.  And windows wastes huge amount of resouces.

My rigs are mobo/4gb ram/ any cpu / 16gb thumbdrive / psu / gpus /risers....nothing else.  Even on the smallest or oldest celeron or pentium runs fine.

Enjoy your bloated windows spyware...becuase no matter what you do...it is spying and reporting to redmond everything you run/do.
