681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 .1BTC is yours for the taking on: January 12, 2018, 06:33:22 PM
First winner.  $20USD worth of bitcoin
User "bitart" has correctly identified the country that the geocache is located in and receives two prizes. He has received some bitcoin and he has been told what region of the country the cache is in. You can ask him to give away that info or maybe he'll sell it to you, or he'll post it here?

Nice job bitart!

Second winner.  $30USD worth of bitcoin
User "codewench" has won the second challenge by correctly identifying the tracker in the picture. He is a member of the Ju'/Hoansi San. Their knowledge of the Kalahari is unmatched. As with the first winner codewench also has been given a clue about the location of the cache.

Way to go codewench!

Third winner.  $25USD worth of bitcoin
User "CerealKing" has correctly identified the Leopard as the second largest cat in Africa. He has been paid, and he has received some other information about the location of the cache. Maybe he'll share it, sell it, keep it a secret?

Your the king CeralKing!

Fourth winner.  $25USD worth of bitcoin
User slaman29 has won the prize! But, as posted later in this thread, user Franky1 was the first to find the location of the sign and the location of the cache at it's base. Give him a big hug because he decided to post a few more clues and let the next correct answer win. Wow, is that being an altruist or what.

Nice work... uh team? Franky1 and slaman29!

Fifth winner.  $375USD worth of bitcoin
Since the money has moved from the private key I left in Africa I assume it has been found! If you are the person who found it I will pay another 0.01BTC if you send me a picture and a brief story of how you did it. In any case congratulations are in order for someone.
682  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2016 compared to other years? on: January 11, 2018, 06:33:31 PM
This is the kind of thread that I've been looking for. Are we able to get the OP updated for this year RodeoX?
Sure thing. I have updated the original post.
683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 .1BTC is yours for the taking on: January 11, 2018, 04:33:19 PM

I have sent .1 BTC to the paper-wallet pictured above. You can watch the address via this link : https://blockchain.info/address/1Q1fDcqMBFYFi6Qd6JDnRnNsRLwHBKtqwq

This paper wallet will stay funded until 2019 or until redeemed. If it is discovered the discoverer has instructions on how to move the bitcoin to an address he/she/they control. And they can receive an additional reward for sending back a photo and brief story. I'll certainly post it if they do.

I may also randomly be giving away more bitcoin or clues as part of the game. Not everyone who wants to participate can go to Africa, so I hope to make it interesting for a wider group. And don't forget to be creative.

Jou eerste wenk oor die ligging van hierdie Geocache.
Voor 1966 is hierdie nasie beheer deur sy buurman in die suide.
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: January 08, 2018, 04:41:56 PM
GEOCACHEAFRICA
Last year’s GEOCACHE ICELAND game was to draw attention to our beloved coin in a place shy about adoption. This year the contest continues in a new country on a new continent. I will update this post and this thread as events dictate. You have until the year 2019 to find this geocache and claim your prize of .1BTC . It’s just sitting there right now for anyone to pick up and in the coming days (weeks?) I will provide clues in this thread that will disclose the location of this paper wallet.
There are no rules, nothing to join, it’s not some kind of scheme. I am GIVING this money away as a stunt to draw attention to bitcoin’s potential in Africa. Anyone can play, you can even just take it anonymously if you want. Although I do offer an additional .001BTC for a picture and a tale of your adventure finding it.

So stay tuned! After trekking by 4-wheel drive for weeks, I’m a too strung out to post today and I still have to fund the wallet. But this week I will be posting more info and pictures.

Cheers,
RodeoX
685  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Who can do large exchanges $100k to $1M? on: December 13, 2017, 03:25:49 PM
Thank you all for your responses!
It looks like a larger trade is doable. I'm going to start looking for property to buy in the expectation of higher prices. This spring I will likely be pulling the trigger and contacting some of you to see if you are still interested. If I am extraordinarily luck the seller will take bitcoin directly for the land purchase.
686  Economy / Currency exchange / Who can do large exchanges $100k to $1M? on: December 11, 2017, 07:54:14 PM
As the price goes up and a large percentage of our holdings are in bitcoin many will be thinking about diversifying by buying property or other large ticket items. That may require a third party willing to handle the crypto. Exchanges are fine for a $10K or less, but what if I need $1 million? Is anyone doing these figures now?

It is a service I would be interested in if I can't convince a seller to take bitcoin. Please respond here of PM me if you would like to keep this quiet. I certainly can keep a secret and can understand why you don't want to advertise your ability to buy at that level.

The problem is really about timing even doing $10K a week it would take almost 2 years to buy enough fiat for a $1M property sale. That's just too long.  Undecided

P.S. Scammers can disregard this offer. It will involve lawyers, contracts, etc. I have been doing this a long time and know all the tricks. It won't be some chatroom Tx. I will likely fly to you for a meeting.
687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wtf... Apple is worth $800bn, Bitcoin $196bn on: December 05, 2017, 03:25:33 PM
Look at Apple at 7 years old. In 1988!

Bitcoin is still a baby and growing far beyond the rate that Apple grew.
688  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin vs Taxes on: December 05, 2017, 03:17:49 PM
I want to ask. Do you have problems paying taxes for every bitcoin sale into money? I always think if it is fair if bitcoin is associated with taxes, as long as the tax paid for each bitcoin sale is not too expensive, I think it does not burden the bitcoiners. If the government sets out to pay taxes we can not oppose it. and can only follow it.

I only know about U.S. tax policy. Here ANY profit you make for ANY reason is taxable. Now the government can not know about every purchase made with bitcoin, but they are much more likely to know if you are trading for fiat. Fiat is NOT YOUR MONEY. It is owned by the federal reserve and you may use only in compliance with the rules they make. That's right, you do not own the money in your pocket. Which is why, for example, you can not legally burn the money in your pocket.

In the future I think users will wise up and demand that retailers take bitcoin. We need to cut fiat out of the loop or this system will be gamed by those entities that use fiat. Banks, governments, etc., Their power is based on fiat and turning bitcoin into fiat is handing them power.
689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Many national central banks plan to launch digital currency. What do you think? on: December 05, 2017, 03:05:09 PM
I think they are entering the alt-coin stage of development. After they lose their shirt with that, perhaps they will cry a bit, then buy bitcoin.
690  Bitcoin / Legal / Senate Bill S.1241 is a real threat to U.S. crypto -Here's what you can do- on: December 02, 2017, 09:57:54 PM
Proposed legislation would force crypto users to reveal their balances and addresses to the IRS. An unconscionable intrusion, in my opinion. I pay my taxes on bitcoin because gains on bitcoin are like everything else. But I am not going to divulge an inventory of my private holdings. That is going way beyond normal and setting a very dangerous precedent. I personally am committing to resistance on this issue. I would rather take my bitcoin to another country and pay my taxes there than comply with this overreach. If the government persists in this push it would be a good idea for others who want to resist to begin sharing tools and knowledge about how to hide bitcoin or move it offshore.

We are breaking no laws and hurting no one. We have nothing to hide, but that does not give the government the right to search us. Lucky for us we live in a democracy (well, it's looking shabby right now.). But together we do have a chance to have ourselves heard. Please contact your senator and the two sponsors of the proposal. Their contact info is below. It actually can have an effect.

Dianne Feinstein

You can also contact the Bitcoin foundation. Let them know that this is a priority for you and/or donate some coin.

Here is the current proposal. It is worrisome.

691  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-01] Proposed U.S. Legislation May Criminalize Those Who Conceal Bitcoin on: December 02, 2017, 09:08:22 PM
Not today, not tomorrow, never, no f#@<ing way.  Angry

You may want to contact Chuck Grassley and Diane Feinstein They are trying to institute an illegal tracking of your private property under penalty of arrest. This is an absolute non starter for me and I would leave this country with my bitcoin before I would comply with this rule. This is something I hope we all can resist. I certainly will.

692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IS THERE A WAY TO KEEP BITCOIN FROM GOVERNMENTAL CONTROL? on: December 02, 2017, 08:25:11 PM
There are ways for a government to pressure users within it's jurisdiction. But consider that..

  • Governments are local law, bitcoin is global.
  • Even extreme government Internet controls can be circumvented with just a bit of work.
  • As long as we continue to insist on using it, governments will have to accommodate it.
  • It is not in the interest of most governments to opt-out of a growing economic opportunity.
693  Economy / Speculation / Re: 'Bitcoin has gone parabolic,' and that usually doesn't end well, Art Cashin warn on: November 30, 2017, 09:28:22 PM
In fact, It doesn't end at all.   Wink

Welcome to bitcoin Art. You obviously have not seen this before like we have.
694  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why hasn't any government stopped Bitcoin? on: November 30, 2017, 09:24:37 PM
You are wrong. In order to destroy bitcoin simply to strengthen governmental control over Fiat money. This is the weakest link in the chain of bitcoin. Now, there are no conditions to bitcoin existed independently. Every user is compelled to exchange their coins for Fiat. If banks are banned from such transactions then bitcoin will lose popularity.
I am not compelled to exchange for fiat. I don't want fiat so I only use bitcoin. If I can't get it for bitcoin then I don't need it. There is nothing that will change my spending habits now and I'm not asking for permission to use crypto, I'm telling the banks that I will.
695  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 7 People arrested for Bitcoin Trading on: November 30, 2017, 06:18:42 PM
Ok then, add Nepal to the list of tyrant nations.  Roll Eyes

I thought about a trip there, but I no longer visit countries that won't accept bitcoin.
696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How the Bitcoin Bubble Will Pop on: November 30, 2017, 03:41:54 PM
What is a pop?

Do you mean when many individuals choose to sell their bitcoin?  That is called a correction. It simply means that the current valuation differs from what the market of bitcoin users thinks. That is the way the market is supposed to work. The only way to keep these swings from happening is with strict controls on how and when you may trade your bitcoin. Is that what we want? Unlike a stock bubble and pop, bitcoin works just as well at $1 as $100,000. #Chillax
697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dumping!! on: November 30, 2017, 03:31:02 PM
welcome to bitcoin! This is what we call a small correction. IMO, it's not a dump till say 35%. It has happened many times and hopefully it will happen many more. I hope everyone else got their buys in, there's sick value to be made right now.
698  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: anonymosity of bitcoin on: November 28, 2017, 08:30:05 PM
We all know that most of the illegal transactions take place through bitcoins as it cannot be tracked.
But I read in some websites that many intelligence agencies have started to find a method and have had significant progress.
Is it true?would our trading be at risk as many of us earn a lot and don't pay any tax to the government.

I don't know who told you that most bitcoin transactions are criminal, but perhaps it is the same idiot who told you that bitcoin was anonymous. And yes, the IRS and governments around the world are tracking all bitcoin transactions and have the tools to start going back and figuring who owes back taxes. They will be able to go back to 2014 or so. They are not "starting" to find methods, they have software to automate it already. Remember that every Tx you have ever done is sitting on the chain waiting to be analyzed.

Read and weep = https://www.chainalysis.com/

Yes, you will receive a bill for your taxes and late fees, penalties, maybe some jail time.
You didn't think they were just going to ignore the law and let you keep the money, right? That is not going to happen.  Your best bet is to start paying back taxes before you get the letter. Then you may be able to claim ignorance and make the case that you were not trying to cheat on your taxes. You will still owe, but it may lighten your sentence.
699  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Education for trading crypto currencies on: November 28, 2017, 04:25:04 PM
Hello

I know there are thousands of books regarding tradings, in the past when i wanted to learn stock trading I joined a bootcamp and I learnt a little bit about Technican Analysis, supports, resistances and some indicatores like EMA, SMA, and so on.

1.  Does the same TA for stocks apply for crypto trading?
No. The bitcoin market is far far to opaque to do meaningful TA. You will hear things like "Jamie Dimon just said something to raise the price".  Then you look at the data and find out the buying came from central Asia by people who know nothing about that guy. Son't beleive there are experts, there are only bull shitters in crypto.

2.  Can you recommend me a few best books for TA crypto trading, the bootcamp I took was 5 years ago, so I have forgotten a lot of what I learnt.

I would recommend just setting up a Coinbase account and trading small. This is brand new stuff and once you know the basics of trading stocks, bonds, commodities you will be a pioneer not a student.
Quote
3.   Can you recommend me some websites related to crypto currency trading? I would like to follow other people signals and analyze them.

I do not believe in the "signals" I see people talk about.

4. Is there an exchange with demo accounts to try first?

Thank you
Hmmm. Well you could just do it on a scrap of paper. Write down your theoretical buys and sells then wait to see how you would have done.
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Around 4 Million Bitcoins lost forever!! on: November 28, 2017, 03:29:09 PM
OMG! Thanks for sharing the article. There should some way to delete bitcoin from accounts that are not being used and be put again in circulation.

Ok, let's start with your bitcoin. I don't think you are spending them fast enough.  I'll just take them so I can circulate them.
Cheesy This is Taboo. There is a 0% chance of this happening.

... we still don't know if Satoshi was really jumped-killed by crypto jumper-killer Gavin and friends. Satoshi is waiting for $50,000 to dump every coin he has...

So even though you have never met either of these guys you know their most guarded secrets? How?
