701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of segwit2x on: October 25, 2017, 03:52:17 PM
That was yesterday ladies and gentlemen. Would it be then fair to say, "End of Legacy Bitcoin"(as per trend title) since Coinbase has done a 180?

"We are going to call the chain with the most accumulated difficulty Bitcoin"

https://blog.coinbase.com/clarification-on-the-upcoming-segwit2x-fork-d3c0f545c3e0

You are right, let's not chant victory yet, this may still get worse until they accept defeat, but I see a lot of newbies losing money because they aren't going to be aware of the ticket listed as BTC being the segwit2x altcoin.

I see Brian Armstrong facing legal problems after this. A lot of people are going to be very angry when they realize they got scammed by Coinbase. Hopefully this could end up in bankruptcy for them, im tired of this company.
702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The most undervalues altcoins on: October 24, 2017, 02:49:45 PM
Not all of them are safe choice, there should be reason behind that decrease but I think lbry coin is good, it will rise probably.

Not a single altcoin is a safe choice. The only thing you could afford calling "safe" in crypto is the number one itself, bitcoin, because you have the best people working there coupled with the longest track record for a blockchain ever and the biggest liquidity.

Every other non-bitcoin crypto is a gamble. Sometimes it pays off real well but you risk major losses in the process.
703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The end of segwit2x on: October 24, 2017, 01:37:34 PM
Looks like Brian Armstrong is finally doing the right thing. Lately he is on a good roll in his decision making. This time, he will not support segwit2x, or at least in a deceiving way which would lead to users thinking they are buying BTC (what segwit2x proponents want is to lost their altcoin as BTC). Not going to happen. Now we will easily make the B2X price tank and we all stay in the original chain.

Quote
The Bitcoin Segwit2x fork is projected to take place on November 16th and will temporarily result in two bitcoin blockchains. Following the fork, Coinbase will continue referring to the current bitcoin blockchain as Bitcoin (BTC) and the forked blockchain as Bitcoin2x (B2X).

Any customer with a BTC balance on Coinbase at the time of the fork will be credited with an equal amount of the B2X asset on the Bitcoin2x blockchain. No action is required — we will automatically credit your account. So, if you have 5 BTC stored on Coinbase before the fork; you will have 5 BTC and 5 B2X following the event.

704  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Burning of Money on: October 23, 2017, 03:42:38 PM
For me, burning money is having it in a bank doing nothing as you slowly lose purchasing power over the years. Just look at how much purchasing power fiat currencies have lost in the past decades due inflation and negative interest rates.

It's pretty stupid to leave your money in the bank, and bitcoin is becoming a solid hedge to increase your purchasing power. Forget about the bureaucrats and enjoy the ride to the moon.
705  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Selling BTC for GBP & paid into a UK bank... on: October 23, 2017, 03:12:28 PM
The best place to do that is localbitcoins.com they provide a peer 2 peer trading service so you can sell to someone paying directly into your bank. It provides an escrow service so you don't release the coins until the money is in your account.
You could also try selling it on this forum but I'd go with localbitcoins myself.

Depending on what amount you want to sell, localbitcoins may not have the liquidity, so you are limited to european exchanges. You can use Kraken, Bitcoin.de, Bitstamp, and any other exchange that will lead to access to SEPA exchanges.

But since GB has declared Independence, im not even sure anymore if SEPA still applies.
706  Economy / Economics / Re: Why economists say Bitcoin a bubble on: October 22, 2017, 04:02:10 PM
I talk to big economists they say Is only a Bubble my thought Is no bitcoin Is revolution of economy even doesnt have a background like gold the value Is power of the people what do you think?

A bubble is a bubble when something is overbought, it is that simple. Is bitcoin overbought right now?
With a supply of 21 million (not considering lost BTCs), with all the brightest minds working on it, with the strongest network, and with a marketcap that is still very small compared to what a global 24/7 market like bitcoin is could deliver.... then no, I don't think we are anywhere near a bubble. Corrections will come and go, that doesn't mean we were in a bubble.
707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Reversal is happening.. bitcoin money goes to altcoins! on: October 22, 2017, 03:28:01 PM
Hi guys.. i am happy to see that the reversal is finally happeninig.. bitcoin is decreasing and money is flowing to my altcoins .. a 12% recovered in a few hours for my diversified portfolio ( 0 bitcoins on it).

good luck to all.. we will meet at ATH of our beloved altcoins again!

do you realize the sameż

Looks like bitcoin took a nice dive, but don't get too excited... that may have been it. Altcoins tend to pump in general when BTC corrects a bit, but the general trendline for bitcoin is still bullish, we may try for newer all time highs and when that happens it will not be pretty again for altcoins. I can't ready the future, but I would take my profits and be in BTC ready for the new ATH attempt.
708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Poswallet trend reversal. All time high incoming on: October 21, 2017, 03:23:01 PM
I always criticized the project because the POS staking happened in a centralized website. I was proven right when it got hacked. You can look at the thread where I warned them that his would happen.

But I always recognized the potential of the idea, if the staking happened in a decentralized way. Now it seems they got a model to allow for this which is why im bullish, it was the missing piece. Let's see if they can deliver.
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is MimbleWimble? on: October 21, 2017, 02:32:34 PM
I  was reading about  a  coin  which   wants  to  implement  this  feature  but I don't  know  what it is and  I can't  understand very well  the uses  of case of this ''tecnology'' (I  am not  english native language). Could  someone  explaine this  to me in simple words, please?

The use case is increased privacy. Apparently is a very clever solution to add increased privacy in bitcoin, the problem is it would run as a sidechain I think, and we are still far from sidechain/drivechains, but we will get there.

Im not sure of how Mimblewimble compares to existing "anonymous coins" like Monero, ZCash, zSNARKs.. and all the other competing anonymous solutions.

In case it was not clear: Mimblewimble is NOT an altcoin, it's an experimental bitcoin feature.

50 % alts are Bitcoin with one feature that is possible to do on Bitcoin or you will be able to do in future.

More like 99%.

If we estimate that there are around 600 cryptocurrencies right now, you would be hard pressed to find 300 cryptocurrencies that have features whose cannot be replicated in bitcoin one way or another.

Most altcoins are completely useless now or will become useless in the future come sidechains.

For the ones PM'ing me about why I think this is a good investment... I already laid down the fundamentals.

The supply and current price coupled with what's coming, and couple with Ethereum becoming Proof of Stake and it's eventual addition for online staking in Poswallet makes this a good investment in my book. But please, never forget the fact that altcoin investing is an high risk venture, and then again, with no high risk no high rewards will come, just be aware of the risk.
712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Poswallet trend reversal. All time high incoming on: October 18, 2017, 04:17:12 PM
Poswallet got a brand new team ready to kick ass and the price is starting to go back up:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/posw-coin/

It may not seem like much due the big spike of a couple of months ago, but if you zoom in on the recent developments you see that this is indeed a trend reversal. The fundamentals are looking good once again for this coin. Looks like the team got his thing together and have now a clear vision of what Poswallet needs to become. Deals with bigger exchanges will come and you want to be buying now before the pump begins, don't be the guy that always sees a train pass by and gets in during the pump. If you want to get rich, you want to get in when things look like the current graph and when there's a good roadmap on place. The total coin supply also points at a really cheap current price.

It looks like you are Legendary bag holder Smiley))

Im going to double down and say we are still going to all time high. Time will prove me right.

Lets look at the facts here:

-5 million market cap, 44 million circulating supply, 70 million total supply
-re-launching in December (more marketing, exchanges, etc)
-Masternode network utilizing a new protocol called Trustless Proof of Stake, do your own research here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2186549.0
-Ben Wang (also known as  Zuckerberg's son) is lead developer, with a team of 6.
-Will let everyone stake any coin offline, trustlessly - a multi-billion $ industry
-POSW coin holders get dividends and masternode rewards (as of December)

I have no reason to believe this coin will not sooner or later shine, and you buy now that it's bottomed, if you want to make it big.
713  Other / Meta / Re: On Cleaning Up the Gambling Discussion Section on: October 18, 2017, 03:21:12 PM
I'd rather that entire section be trashcanned to be honest, but that whole board is just a symptom of signature campaigns forcing users to make posts in the Gambling section so they just create every possible topic they can possibly think of. At the very least non-bitcoin related threads such as that one you mentioned shouldn't be permitted.

There are some good threads there, believe it or not. Some people are really good at picking up winners/losers in bets. Also it's a good place to talk about sports with people that are into bitcoin and bet on sports with bitcoin, so ultimately it is related to bitcoin in a way.

Granted, there's tons of spam with people that speak broken english there, but there are some good posts to talk with with people that genuinely like sports and sometimes bet on them with bitcoin, so I think it would be unfair to entirely wipe the subforum.
714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / SHOCKER: anti segwit2x guy gets swatted on: October 17, 2017, 03:41:29 PM
https://twitter.com/lopp/status/919943125933707265

If this doesn't prove that this is a war for power, then I don't know what will.

NYAers are now swatting big vocal figures against the segwit2x scam it seems. Lopp is the engineer at BitGo and he explains how 2x is a scam daily, meanwhile the CEO of BitGo is pro-2x. Do the math.
715  Other / Meta / Re: BTC vs PGP on: October 17, 2017, 02:06:33 PM
I'm considering to do a pgp signed message, actually I've staked just a bitcoin address but I think that PGP fits better for this purpose. I tend to not reuse btc addresses and this obviously in the long run could be problematic.

I've already done it in a personal escrow thread (pgp message) but will do also for account recovery.

Why would it be problematic? As long as you have the private key for that address (and if you use Bitcoin Core, you can't delete your addresses), and you posted that address before your account gets hacked, then there's no denying that you are the real owner of the account.

Anyway what's a good tutorial to learn how to do the PGP signature with windows? or is it better to do it in an issolated OS like Tails?
716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Segwit2x impact Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash or both? on: October 16, 2017, 05:46:30 PM
I have been reading up on Segwit2X (https://bravenewcoin.com/news/bitcoin-core-developers-issue-segwit2x-hard-fork-warning/ but still have some basic questions like does it impact just Bitcoin or also Bitcoin cash. Does it matter if I have BTC in my wallet or in an exchange? Thanks.

It impacts Bitcoin, because it's a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain.

You MUST have your BTC in your own private wallet, so start by downloading Bitcoin Core, which is ideal.

If you don't want to download the whole blockchain, get a paper wallet, or Electrum wallet. Anything where you control your private keys, otherwise you will NOT receive the coins on the other chain.
717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Korea To Tax Bitcoin Use on: October 16, 2017, 03:02:22 PM
Only if you were to move in a country that claims no taxes on bitcoin usage you would be safe, and as far as I know there are plenty.

I think people should pay on capital gains once, but not on every use of it. Well, maybe when you purchase something that belongs to the country that held that particular law, but taxing on a transaction basis (even if you send BTC to someone for example) it's pretty stupid and I don't think they can ever charge you on that.

Just don't be delusional if you think you can avoid taxes when dealing with states and the legacy banking system.
718  Other / Meta / BTC vs PGP on: October 15, 2017, 04:31:27 PM
With so many hacks of accounts happening lately, I have become interested in the subject of signing messages cryptographically. It's a pretty cool way to prove your identity. But I was just wondering: What is the best method, using a BTC address you own, or using a PGP signed message?

I have learned how to use the BTC signing and verification method in Core, it's pretty easy and straightforward. I still didn't learn how to use PGP. I was wondering if it's worth it, or using a BTC address to prove your identity is as good as PGP or what are some pros and cons of both.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ❤️ Stratis ❤️ BUY now less than $2.86/unit, oversold indicator set up on: October 15, 2017, 03:40:27 PM
I think I wrote a warning thread when Stratis was pumping back around $5.50+ or something.  Please read the thread and do some research

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2166065.0

  • For a C# smart contract platform (using a language that a ton of people already know well), development community and technical talk in forums is non-existent (look at early Ethereum technical discussions in reddit, there is NOTHING anywhere for Stratis)
  • the CEO talks a lot of fluff and provides virtually zero technical knowledge
  • there seem to be like maybe 1-2 developers behind it, that's it
  • the full node has been downloaded maybe by a dozen people, total number of downloads for all versions is tiny for a top #20 crypto
  • virtually non-existent communication from the development team
  • a lot of non-technical people who seem to have bought it pumping it with fluff articles, blogs and youtube video
  • Hype about releasing Breeze Wallet pumps up the price months back, then never released, then release hype then delay, months later we get hype again

It looks like pure VaporWare to me.  No tech.  Just fluff marketing.  There is no developer community which is crazy since there are a ton of people who know C#.  Stratis just keeps pimping their Breeze Wallet since May and it's always delayed and an alpha release state.

Sure it can pump up but there is nothing behind it.  Add to that, you have a lot of Stratis bagholders who are waiting for a pump so that they can dump this shitcoin.

Im not sure about the fundamental details for this project. I thought they got big names in like Microsoft developing apps or something?

It's obvious projects like this need big deals to pump, are there any big names on the pipeline?

Regardless of the fundamentals, it may start looking like a buy from a technical analysis perspective, but of course, you never know and it may continue stagnating.
720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: altcoin connect to wrong peers on: October 14, 2017, 06:49:41 PM
hello guys , why altcoin connect with another altcoin peers , if you check the peersinfo there is litecoin nodes try to connect to to the network , ports are different and the coins are different , what is the reason behind this issue in your opinion and what the solution

i hope you guys help me

This technical support section is about bitcoin only, you should ask on the altcoin forum, and you should at least tell us what altcoin are you using. Are you using Litecoin?

I would close the client, delete the peers file (make sure you don't do anything stupid like deleting wallet.dat) and then let it find new peers again.

If you are using some abandoned altcoin, you may not be able to find any peers.
