The proposal also states mining does not need a license.
I have a feeling it is going to change quite a bit before it even gets close to being law.
There is already and uproar here in NY about the invasive privacy issue.

And so it begins.  New York regulators are now proposing things which would make it essentially illegal for anybody to use Bitcoin in that state without being registered. It is so over-reaching that it would even catch things like the Bitcoin tipbot on reddit, which would be an illegally operating entity if it allows you to tip a New York resident.

http://www.dfs.ny.gov/about/press2014/pr1407171-vc.pdf
I've read several articles about this proposal and most of them seem to give the same quote, that merchant and consumers using bitcoin strictly for the sale of Goods and Services are exempt. I view the fact that you collect a 2% fee for providing me the service of access to bitcoin mining software and a service of reasonable security protection from online attackers, makes you a simple merchant and 'us' the consumers of your service. Therefore "We" are not subject to the SDN verification as well as State Licensing. Though you may want to tweak the support page to make it clear 'You are only providing a Service and are not a Bank, Loan Agent, or Monetary Transfer Provider'.
722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Minera v0.3.1] Your next mining dashboard is here. CPUminer/CGminer/BFGminer. on: July 19, 2014, 02:53:29 AM
Update.  I got it fixed.  Simple removal of the --scrypt it was redundant with the check box in the settings page.

I have DL'd the image and it setup with ease.
My problem is I cannot get any Blizzards or Zeus chip based miners to run on it.
I have tried a Black Widow, Falcon and 3 Blizzards.
Here is my Blizzard argument.
Code:
--scrypt --zeus-chips 6 --zeus-clock 328 --scan-serial zeus:auto --nocheck-golden
One of the Blizzards is batch 1 so I use the nocheck-golden.  I cannot even get a single one to start hashing.  I have used two hubs that run on my other Pi's with MinePeon and they run with the ZeusMiner Pi image.
I have tried the Dmax Zeus fork and even tried BFG which works fine on MinePeon.
I really like the dashboard on Minera I would love to get the Blizzards running on it.
Can anyone help me??
I have scrypt enabled and everything I have seen in this thread.
Thanks again.

Awesome OgNasty.  You are making strides where others do not.  I really like how you keep leading the way.

What made you decide to do this?

I want NastyPool to be the best.  The synergies available with our different services allow us to offer exclusive benefits that can't be matched elsewhere.  I don't mind leading by example on how to unlock those benefits.  The address temporarily being used to gather lottery donations is 1NastyPXmduDcoay5aEZzih7fzqt8UzXRK for anyone interested.
725  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | POOL | COINS on: July 17, 2014, 11:26:04 PM
Wow that is huge.
I hope it works and brings more people to the pool.
What made you decide to do this?

I have transferred ~$5,000 worth of NastyFans seats to a separate account and am donating the distributions from those seats to an address that has been setup for NastyPool.  The current plan is to have 50% of the BTC at that address distributed to the weekly NastyPool lottery winner on an ongoing basis as a way to provide greater than 100% mining payouts to our miners.  No word on when the mining lottery will begin, but you can earn tickets now by mining on nastyfans.org:9332 and using your Bitcoin address as your username.
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [WAC] Official WorldAidCoin Thread on: July 17, 2014, 05:25:08 AM
Wow that is fast.
We need to remember to keep building the community so it keeps what every value it gets when accepted.
Also we need lots of people we have on facebook and everywhere to buy when it is on the exchange.
This is all to help people.

We are about to get 4th spot in rankings, have been rising very fast in rankings. all help appreciated!
727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 17, 2014, 03:28:23 AM
The RK3 is nice.  I have one right now I am writing up a review on.
A good step over the Rocket.  The RK4 is being worked on.
It is such a good time to be in crypto currencies.  Lots of miner options.  Great community support for new manufacturers like Rockminer make me excited for this industry.
Rockminer is doing a great job.

I think R4 is not 2 of R3.  It should be a 500GH/S unit, may be a bit higer than the latest 500GH R3 as it seems to have the better cooling.

The R3 doesn't run at 500gh/s if you take the HW errors and rejects into account...

I still wouldn't touch any more rockminer hardware at this point...people were right...there's no way they can compete with Bitmain.

I have the funky looking rocket hashing now through the BTCD craze and I'm pretty sure this will put it within the same ROI timeframe as the S3 batch 1, which I still haven't received. To me that's fairly competitive. Not to mention that Bitmain currently doesn't have anything in stock, so it's a  moot point anyway. Once they both are shipping from stock and pricing is adjusted accordingly then we can compare.
728  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 17, 2014, 03:26:14 AM
I confirmed the S3 as well.

The reseller lives not too far from me.

there's no way they can compete with Bitmain[/u].

you are right.

bitmain have not shipped the new generation miner yet.

Yes they have.  Shipping started yesterday.  One reseller got the miner today.  They posted a screen shot of it running at 450 Gh/s with essentially no HW errors.  Pulling about 340 watts.

I'm with you on the not wanting to run it from a power hungry windows system.  I right now run most of miners from my GPU rig using MM.  I do have a 2nd windows system that I use as a test and reviewing system.  The third system is netbook to run some miners.  Low power and heat and runs MM great.
That being said I run my other miners from 5 different Pi setups a mixture of MinePeon, Minera, ZenController, Testing newer Zeus Controller Images and now a StarMiner setup.  Soon to migrate more miners to a MinePeon setup and some others to a Minera setup.
I am getting there.  I have to sell off a bunch of my mining gear though.

Use the MultiMiner.  It uses BFG and there is a check box for restarting suspect miners.  So far it keeps mine running consistently and happily.
Nwoolls is the creator too so same great support.

Now, all I have are my gridseed g-blades dropping off after 2-3 hours (this didn't happen with v4.2.0) & not all will hash anymore.  Out of the 3 g-blades, each consisting of two boards, only 5 1/2 boards will hash, which randomly changes to another board not hashing, every time I restart bfgminer v4.3.0 or v4.4.0.

While I'd encourage you to try v4.2 again, there are known issues where GridSeed devices (DualMiners, Blades, Orbs, etc) stop generating nonces / shares. It's there in other drivers as well, for CPUMiner and CGMiner.

The next version of BFGMiner will include a new feature of the current watchdog to watch for nonces found by devices and compare those to pool difficulty. Basically if a device isn't generating shares anymore, it will be caught by the watchdog. In addition the GridSeed drivers (DualMiner and GridSeed) will reinitialize the device when this happens.

That sounds promising.

Doh!!!! ...there goes one of my G-blades zero hashing again.   Cry Angry Cry

Hi ManeBjorn.  I used to use Multiminer.  I love, except that I no longer leave my power hungry Windows PC up anymore than I have to.  That's the plus with the Raspberry Pi 4.5 watts & the Beaglebone Black about 2.5 watts.  They use very little wattage to run compared to my 500 watt PC.

Any more fees and people will keep leaving for the evil ghash.
Just setup an email reminder that is triggered at a set amount of BTC to remind them to withdraw.

That works let me know how it goes.
Then I can do a whole kit from you.  Smiley

I'm not sure I had not purchased a fan yet because I had not decided on a case.  If you find something nice let me know.

Cool deal.
How does the fan mount I can not tell from the pics.

Cool!!
 Cool
I will save up if you can let me know how much it costs?

Do you make Pi cases that you can attach the fan to?

All orders up to date have been shipped and tracking info PM'd.

Currently waiting on filament for a custom order  Grin

Thanks all!

Found one!

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:26876

Right around $13 shipped for the standard design found in the link.

That design utilized screws I believe. Once I get my R-Pi fan, I can tweak my design to incorporate a fan mount (clip-in style) TOOL-LESS!

Do you have a fan in mind? I would just need to LxWxH(D) specs and would be very simple to model

Word. I should have mine here by weeks end and should only take a few to incorporate the fan mount into the lid.

As you guys know I always encourage them to do so. I even poke them in my articles.
 Grin

I would love to see BFG in the S3 and other hardware from the start instead of old forked cgminer versions that rot on the vine.
Please encourage Bitmain to send a sample unit and docs.
It's far more effective (for obvious reasons) for customers to ask for BFGMiner support than for devs.

^ this is too true and has been proven over and over.

Hello guys,
I'd like to tell you the Minera project now supports Zeus devices too. Please give a try and let me know!

any idea how progress is on port to S1?

Lack of documentation held up progress until I had to move onto other ASICs. If we end up doing S3 support I will see if any of that is applicable to the S1 and S2. Really just an issue of time and documentation.

I am reviewing a RK3 now, let me know when you are ready with those.  I will get a set and put it in my article as well like with the R-Boxes  The Breakout board case and stack holders are great.

Anyone know how we could get the RK/R3's running on Minera?  UI kicks rockminer's ass.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596620.0

MultiMiner is detecting my R-Pi controlled RK-Box (fw 1.2.1) currently in the same fashion it would detect an Antminer S1
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=248173.0

Well its a bit of a Rube Goldberg device but I managed to swap out the fan on my RK (BTW if you look up the operating specs of the model number and find it listed as a 150 CFM that is WRONG, it appears to actually be the 210 CFM model) I replaced it with a fan of similar size that moves 154 CFM. That was not nearly enough to keep this beast cool (primary prob was blade on bottom over heating, not enough clearance there to put a fan directly on the heat-sink as I did with the other three blades) so I added 80 mm 74 cfm fans to each of the three blades that are accessible then to cool the bottom blade I took the orig fan added a speed controller, lowed the speed by about 30% - 40%  and placed it just behind the unit to cool the bottom blade. Using only slightly more wattage than the orig fan used at full speed I now have a rig that has a decibel reading of 34 rather than the 62 of the orig setup and the blades stay at a constant 38C for the top three blades and 41 C for the bottom blade. I tested the setup by moving it out of the controlled room (23.5 C)  to a room with ambient temp of 29 degrees C for a few hours and blades stayed below 46 C (43,44,46 and 44). With the latest 1.3.0 pi image I am getting a direct hash reading of 521 GHs with an 8.8% reject rate and at the poolside (I have tried a few already) I am getting 473 GHs. This is with the freq set to 350 (I tried 320 and box runs cooler and reject rate drops to 5.9% but hash rate falls to 470 direct and 423 poolside).
Looking at new frame designs to reconfig this thing. At first I thought to go with a setup similar to the R3 but now am leaning towards simply taking all four blades apart and putting them on a wire plate with fans top and bottom. It looks like I could reduce noise and thermal conditions quite a bit by doing so. Will post pics in a week or so after the project.

I should have my stacking clips ready soon! You can add a set to the bottom miner and raise it up off the surface for better cooling.
Currently looking at options for strengthening the clip design for possibly stacking more than 2 units stacked as these miners are heavy!

That is cool.
That means it is much like the Antminers and does not need any messing around.  Very cool.

Thanks I am healing.  Fingers crossed this one keeps me out of a wheel chair.

That is cool
Did you have to adjust the API settings to get it to work?

I mean a ton as in lots of little USB miners and a couple larger ones.  No way to pay the $64k copay and then the $28k ER and hospital stay that ensued after trying to get home after the surgery.
Can't win some days.

Some success with MM and the Blizzards.  My first Blizzard is Gen1 uses the Sil Labs Drivers.
Batch 2 and later use FTDI.  So fun with drivers and batches.  LOL
I am working on minepeon for them anyways until I can get them sold.
I have a ton of mining hardware to sell I should start a thread.  I have to get rid of it for room and to pay for my surgery co-pay.

Well that sucks but at least you have the gear to sell and pay for your surgery co-pay eh?

I was just posting up to report that MultiMiner is now detecting my RK-Box miner running on an R-Pi controller.  Grin

No adjustments were made and it;s running an older Rockminer FW 1.2.1 currently. I've been so busy I forgot to grab a spare 16GB SD card for making the update.

Wishing you a speedy recovery mate!
