741  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it go up again? on: January 26, 2014, 03:01:03 AM
Price discovery from the recent hype is still ongoing.. From the looks of it, it still seems overpriced as good news barely moves the market anymore like it used to.

The price stays the same, but the market cap just keeps growing due to thousands of BTC being mined each day.

Yep, 3600+ BTC/day are being brought into existence at the moment.  Stable price is a rallying market cap.  Currently, the bitcoin supply is inflating over 10% on an annual basis.
742  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Now accepting bitcoin for our game Gravi. on: January 26, 2014, 02:52:14 AM
Sorry, yeah we will have Gravi available on Mac & Linux hopefully by the end of February.   We had it working on Desura on Mac & Linux,  but when we moved to steam it broke.
I'll keep you updated as to when we get on the other platforms.

Thanks,

Sounds like you should hire a full time Linux developer, steambox/steamos is the future.  I'm graduating with my CS masters in May, and I'll be available in August.  Wink

But, hey, thanks for keeping me from spending bitcoin on a game I really don't have time to be playing.  I need to help automate my schools mining robot for the NASA competition and finish my thesis on classifying web content based on semantic content and link information.  It is quickly becoming a busy semester.
743  Economy / Speculation / Re: Near term price prediction. on: January 26, 2014, 01:54:33 AM
My anticipation of that day consumes me with a fervour indescribable to the human mind.

My mind boggles at the potential variance in this textbook sideways channel.

I could be 5% up or 5% down, The possibilities - they are endless! Oh how the adrenaline races.

Unless of course BTC busts all kinds of nuts on your face and takes off again.

Not that it would *ever* do that.

It never does that.

Never.

Are you in the UK? I'm guessing not if a location's that far away unless you're a lighthouse keeper.

I assume they'll be hitting the rest of the world pretty rapidly after. I've no idea why they chose Britain though.

Nope, US.  Although to be fair, there aren't any bitcoin ATMs at all around here.  It's cool though, coinbase takes care of me when I can't find a local contact to trade with.

They seem to have been a bit quiet about the US. Maybe there are more regulations to untangle than other places.

They would need a money transmission license in each state they wished to service customers.  Most states require a "surety bond" as a condition of licensure.  For example, in my home state they would have to put down $300,000 in addition to any processing and legal fees.  Some estimates put this cost at about $20 million to be able to service all 50 states.  No wonder there is no competition in the banking sector....
745  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wealth Distribution. on: January 26, 2014, 12:23:08 AM
You don't know how many addresses I split my bitcoins across, so any such statistics are very rough estimates.

For weeks I have watched you post thread after thread of astonishing crap. I know my SNR is high, but wow you destroy me.

All this splashing around in a paddling pool, you make it sound like the world is watching. It's all just noise. You win some you lose some.

The way you are playing it you basically have a 50/50 chance of catching a break. Anything in-between is gambling, and by all means you do so, no skin off my nose, and if you make a few quid on the way then good on you, but the delusions that I keep reading about. Just wow. Mostly I just skim and marvel. Tonight, the gin is with me and I gotta spout some shit too.

Quote this for truth:

Buy as much as the fuck you can, right the fuck now. End of January comes and all the sell the (OMG CHINA BANNED BTC) rumours, are gonna buy the news. Not to mention all the "lets see what happens at the end of jan" dollars sat on the sidelines.

When we hit 5 figures your +/-$10 dance is going to look just as silly as all those people arguing about whether it was going up or down a dollar when we were at $12.

Fish. On.

+1.  If it weren't so fucking cold and snowy, I'd go get me some gin.

ATMs seem foolishly expensive in light of ZipZap.

Too bad the nearest ZipZap payment location is 5-6 hours away.

Weekend bull trap? Final edition?

bitcoin itself is a permanent bull trap

what are you doing on this forum???
I dont feel trapped.... I feel..... rich?

But yet you can't make yourself sell Tongue.

Why would anyone sell the next world currency?

You can have too much of anything.  Currency is only useful if you can spend it.

751  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Reports of my forum death have been greatly exaggerated" - chodpaba on: January 25, 2014, 08:49:42 PM
Hey Chodpaba, have you read Mandelbrot's book on markets: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004PYDBEO ?

If not, I would be interested in seeing how it influences your models.  Basically, he starts off with proving the normality assumption doesn't hold for the vast majority of financial data.  He then presents a model that can produce a random price series from a few parameters (which are market specific) that actually matches the experienced probabilities of various outsized events.  The normality assumption underestimates risk in markets, but Mandelbrot claims his model can more accurately estimate risk by fixing the distribution (fat tails) and distorting the time series (fast vs slow trading times).
752  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: January 25, 2014, 07:44:56 PM

I made my first purchase of gold and silver recently. With crypto earnings, lol. Got a good price just before it went up a bit. My question to you all is how likely do you think it is that gold will go to 1000 or 800? I want to pickup some more but at cheap prices...

If you listen to corrupt bankers it will go down. If you listen to them you should thus not have bought gold in th first place. I think you will be lucky to find anyone in this thread who agrees with them.

Nobody in the thread "Gold Collapsing. Bitcoin UP" thinks gold will go down, huh?  Cyperdoc might have something to say about that.

Ok, get the point. But I don't see how gold price (price of actual physical gold) can go much down now. Even FT is onto it, can it get much more mainstream now?:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-01-25/ft-goes-there-demand-physical-gold-one-day-paper-price-manipulation-will-end-catastr

Most people will just accept it is manipulated and steer clear.  They know better than to try and fight it out with the big banks directly in the market.

Hello Peepz,

I'm new here,  but I've been lingering in IRC for a while.  Hashbang Games is a indie game development studio I started about a year ago, and I wanted to let you guys know that we are accepting bitcoin as a purchase method for our game Gravi.

You can check out Gravi @  http://www.playgravi.com

Gravi is a Puzzle Platformer we created and we were voted into Steam Greenlight.   If you're a gamer and you like platformers, like super meat boy or portal 2, then I think you'll like our game.

Have a look,  please post your thoughts!

Love bitcoin,  i'm a miner myself, and I plan to make all our future games purchaseable with Bitcoin!

Thanks,
Marco Williams (CEO)

Really???..... hashbang games, but you only support Windows Roll Eyes.  I'd love to try it out, but I don't have a windows license, and I don't want to buy one.

755  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Casascius Series 1 1BTC, 5 BTC, 25 BTC on: January 25, 2014, 06:52:28 AM
For the series 1s, I would need at least 4 to consider letting go of another one.  I'm not sure about the 5 and 25 BTC.  They aren't as rare so maybe 7-7.5 for the 5 BTC coin and 28-30 for the 25 BTC coin.
756  Economy / Speculation / Re: There is no "Senate Hearing" on January 28 on: January 24, 2014, 04:56:49 AM
There is no senate hearing on January 28!

There is a public discussion in New York to be hosted by the New York State Department of Financial Services...

The senate discusses federal matters that can have a broad impact...

This meeting has no impact outside of New York State.

The outcome of this meeting be it positive of negative will have little effect on Bitcoin. Calling this event a "senate hearing" hurts Bitcoin more than the worst possible outcome this meeting could produce.

Is this really necessary? You seem to assume that everyone thinks there is a senate hearing in New York. I haven't seen anyone say this.

But thanks for pointing out the meeting though, because New York is an extremely important global financial hub and decisions made about Bitcoin in New York will certainly have far-reaching effects.  Smiley

It seems like everywhere I turn somebody is talking about the upcoming "senate hearing." It seemed like a correction was in order.

Obviously New York is important. However I wouldn't say it's nearly as major as a senate hearing. When people hear about an upcoming senate hearing they get scared...

Wall Street has more influence than DC.
757  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Casascius Series 1 1BTC, 5 BTC, 25 BTC on: January 23, 2014, 08:00:22 PM
Prices?

One of the 1BTC coins is as good as sold, so I'm not really worried about selling any more at the moment.  I'm willing to, but you'll have to make me a good offer.
758  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is being manipulated into stability. But why? on: January 23, 2014, 07:29:40 PM

I would also like to point out that I have a private key memorized.  Nobody's worked out a way to hack human memory as far as I'm aware. Cool

In order to use your bitcoins, at some point the key have to be entered into a computer...

Only the signature needs to be input.  This could be worked out on paper from the transaction and the private key.
760  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10 straight clean arbitrage to be had going from Stamp to BTC-E.... on: January 22, 2014, 08:55:41 PM
Historically, difficulty has corrected when mining remained unprofitable long enough.  The ASIC ramp up with mostly preorders, and the subsequent rally has delayed the correction to difficulty, but new hardware that is currently available is still tough to justify.  There are still preorders of more efficient hardware in development though, so we have a bit of a delay between purchase decision and operations that will provide support to difficulty though short periods (2-3 months) of price bearishness.  If price doesn't recover in that time, difficulty will slow it's growth or even decline after this next generation of hardware ships and saturates.
