741  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is the Gemini exchange in trouble? on: October 25, 2023, 07:38:41 AM
Definitely because it looks like this exchange is in some deep trouble. There's already a whopping $1 billion lawsuit against them for allegedly scamming investors. That's no small change..... And if they're found guilty, they'll be facing multiple lawsuits from angry investors, and jail time could be on the horizon.

Good thing you're keeping up with the news. If you've got any funds in that exchange, I'd say it's time to pull them out while you still can. As the poster above suggested, maybe give Binance a shot because they've got a solid reputation, and they're regulated to operate as well.

Welcome back to the forum, once again.

I see that you have an old thread already;  BETS.IO Casino Up to 20% Cashback Every Day | 10-Minute Cashout | No KYC

And according to your post there ;

Just for everyone's knowledge, this thread is no longer being maintained — we've moved to our new thread that can be found here Cheesy

This means that this will be your new official thread, so I suggest that you lock the old thread to avoid duplication of thread as that is against the forum rules.
I guess they have lost access to the account of the OLD thread as they need to create new
account and new thread as well to maintain and same reason that is why they cannot lock that old thread , mentioning this would be their
3rd thread so Hopefully the last also though the OP seems to be less attractive and less informative .

I see now. I didn't realize it because I didn't check the thread creator of their old thread. I was just assuming that it was the same account that had posted. But in this matter, I think mods would likely lock the old thread, as we never know; there might be some inactive users who will bump that old thread. Anyway, thank you.

I guess we can see the updates regarding of those scheme on November since senate is having a recess and they will open this topic again so hopefully they can sue those people behind this large scale scamming so that they will be penalize. I also don't believe that they can recover the money stolen from people since for sure those scammers already secured the money away from authorities reached.

Are they really going to take the investigation to the Senate? I'm aware that the amount involved is substantial, but I believe it hasn't affected the majority of Filipinos. Investors here are not poor people who are desperate to earn big money; they live a comfortable lives, which is why they can afford to invest hundreds of thousands or even millions. Even if those behind the scam will be jailed, there will still be other scammers who will emerge with new schemes, possibly scamming even more people through different platforms.

I highlighted some of the most popular investment scheme in the Phiilipines below. It's worth noting that there have been previous scams that involved many less fortunate individuals, but no Senate investigation has taken place thus far IIRC. So, I'm skeptical that this new one will reach the Senate.

Quote
FrancSwiss (2007)

In fact, the company raised over $20 million in only a few months. But after a media report that encouraged investors to withdraw their money, the scheme collapsed.

Aman Future (2012)

eported as a pyramid scheme by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in 2012, Aman Futures reportedly duped about 15, 000 people in Visayas and Mindanao of about 12-billion pesos of their hard-earned cash.

Ponzi schemes in Mindanao (Kapa and Rigen)

Started in 2015, Kapa investors donated between ₱10,000 to ₱2,000,000 to help the ministry in delivering “propagation of the religious faith, establishment of livelihood programs for the benefits of its members.” In return, they will enjoy a 30% monthly interest through the ministry’s investments, for life. So, an investment of ₱10,000 will yield ₱36,000 a year, every year, for as long as the investor was alive.

745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: October 24, 2023, 01:14:31 PM
The way things are unfolding, it seems we're heading in that direction. Everything involving Bitcoin that the government can regulate, they want to intervene in. Exchanges and even gambling sites now require KYC, and this KYC requirement erases the anonymity that we intended to preserve. It's tough to accept that what Satoshi created for anonymous transactions and decentralization is becoming centralized, and anonymity is being stripped away due to KYC.

Why doesn't the government just create its own digital asset and let Bitcoin continue to function in our ecosystem? I'm sure the massive adoption we hope for could still happen even if they don't heavily regulate the market.
746  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why has Bitcoin skyrocketed recently? on: October 24, 2023, 01:01:08 PM
Why are all cryptocurrencies soaring these days? Does anyone know the inside story? Huh Huh Huh

That is the movement of bitcoin and the market. Do you want the market to always be bearish? The financial market has only two directions: up and down, so you don't need to be surprised when it starts to increase after many days of decline. This is also proof that just by actively accumulating bitcoin, bitcoin will bring you sweet results. I have been accumulating since last year so far and my portfolio has had pretty good returns but I won't be in a rush to sell it all anytime soon as I believe bitcoin will take me to the next level.

Well the market can go sideways for years on end.

so there are three directions

down
sideways
up

It doesn't matter, though. We are here for the long term, and the short-term movements aren't our primary concern. Grin

With the current state of the market, it seems like the bull run is just around the corner. They say that, according to trends, a bull run tends to occur before the halving. Could it be that this time it will appear earlier? Regardless, I think there's no need to panic if we don't intend to sell.
747  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 24, 2023, 11:52:44 AM
Just one more sleep until NBA basketball kicks off. I think with the Damian Lillard trade the Bucks became the team to beat in the East and I think the pickup of Bradley Beal makes the Suns the team to beat in the West. I think the Warriors will have another good year along with the Celtics and Nuggets, but I think the Bucks take home the crown this year.

The Bucks will surely be capable of reaching back to the NBA finals if they stay healthy throughout this season because they are currently the best team in the East right now and all other strong teams are in the West. If they still having a hard time getting to the NBA playoffs with this roster, then it would be another battle for them to fix their management because a super team such as this one is expected to dominate the Eastern Conference and get to the NBA finals easily.
And to add some fire into it, Giannis already signed a 3-year extension worth $186M, and he will stay with the Bucks.
https://www.nba.com/news/bucks-giannis-antetokounmpo-extension

This is what I'm saying when "One trade can change everything". Just imagine back when Giannis is kind of threatening the Bucks' front office saying that he will leave the team if they will not compete with the title. Then they got Lillard, and that changes everything including his mindset. Now they are the favorites to win the title already just because they got Dame. The East isn't as loaded with the West, and with Dame going to the East, that makes the East better knowing that Commissioner Adam Silver is thinking of putting back the East Vs. West format in the all-star game. Nonetheless, that trade changes everything not only for the Bucks, but for the whole NBA.

Overall, I expect them to be a good duo, but I would want to see who will be their 3rd player of the team to complete that "Big 3". Middleton maybe is the best fit, but nonetheless, the team's gonna be in the NBA Finals, unless injury spoils it. That's my prediction only.

So, that means he's going to be raking in $62 million annually, making him the top earner in the NBA as this list will change.
https://hoopshype.com/salaries/players/

Giannis made a pretty smart move here. I'm guessing he must have been seriously impressed by Lillard's performance during the season Grin, which is why he decided to lock in that contract extension just a day before the regular season kicked off.

Making that sure money while working his way to create that great combination between him and Lilard, though we didn't see any
special out from Lilard during the pre-season games,

But I believe that Giannis sees something, and he believes that it's worth to take that risk pairing with Lilard and be as competitive as they can this
coming season.

He must have really thought this through before making a decision. He was offered a massive contract, and it's just for three years, so he won't be locked in for too long. And of course, the chance to play with Lillard, a bona fide superstar, is an opportunity Giannis hasn't had before. This is a bit of a gamble to see if their partnership will work, but even if it doesn't, he won't really lose out, considering the huge amount of money he's already secured.

Not that hard to assume that the chance of them moving back to the finals is really possible, if that new duo will showcase there
offensive capabilities and manage to support each other inside the court. They can bring more excitement to the fans and viewers.

They became the heavy favorite to win the championship when the trade news about Lillard came out. But now, they are only slightly behind the Celtics, with a very minimal difference. So, in terms of their chances of making it to the Finals, they seem to have a good shot. Bookmakers wouldn't set odds like that if they didn't believe they had a strong chance.

For championship odds

I love Bob Marley, love his music and its message, so I like to share his statement which I also use to measure my richness.

Quote
Possession make you rich? I don’t have that type of richness. My richness is life, forever.” #bobmarley

🎥 Bob is interviewed by reporter George Negus (60 Minutes Australia) at 56 Hope Road in Kingston, 1979.

So it's not really about the money for me, as long as I survive in this world with a comfortable life, I wouldn't be chasing a lot of money as I also like to retire spending time with my family, just be happy, I think that would make you rich already.

Even Steve Jobs, in his statement he regret working to hard that he sacrifice his happiness already.

Quote
"I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes my life is an epitome of success.
However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.
At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and
wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

They have responded, but the reply wasn't entirely satisfying, as it seemed like an automated message assuring the safety of funds. Therefore, it's a matter of personal choice whether to trust their response or engage in speculation. Ultimately, it's up to us how we approach this matter.

We all know people don't want an automated response when it comes to exchanges where they are trading, and these kinds of responses will make the users think that something is not right, since it was not covered by mainstream media they think that the majority of users are not aware of it so they prefer not to announce so there will be no panic.

But if they see that there are requests or demands for transparency they will yield to their users, their competitors are improving so they should value their users' opinions.

The only government department that could dig into this matter is the central bank as they are regulated by BSP. Given the alleged huge amount lost, they really should have launched an investigation right away. Maybe we'll wait a bit to see if any news surfaces about it, but if a whole month passes and there's still no word on this, I guess we can safely assume it's just some FUD.
751  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Before you take sides on: October 23, 2023, 11:59:49 AM

Before you take sides with gamblers claiming they get banned for winning too much, remember that casinos are good at monitoring and preventing fraudulent behaviors, you break some rules you are out, and no cheater want to admit that they cheat.

It's pretty easy to figure out if a user is telling the truth or not. Just take a good look at the reputation of the casino. If a casino has a solid reputation, we'd naturally lean towards believing them over a gambler making negative claims about the casino. Of course, this changes if the gambler can actually provide some solid proof of their accusations.

Casinos that have already built a strong reputation have a lot to lose, so they're more likely to be credible compared to someone throwing negative stories at them. Now, if you start hearing the same story from multiple gamblers, well, that's when things get a bit alarming. But until that happens, casinos keep their reputation intact.
752  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coins.ph hacked, $6 million lost? on: October 23, 2023, 04:29:01 AM
It's a simple fix for this potential issue - just be straight with the folks, tell the truth. If there hasn't been a hack, they should put out a public statement to clear up all this FUD.
I'm sure a hack has occurred, any service wouldn't allow a commotion among customers for several days because of fake news.
However Coinph should try to divert customers' attention from this incident, or the problem will have to become more complicated with consequences that they'll have to face.
They are regulated, and they have an obligation to inform people about the status of the exchange, whether it's true that it's been hacked or not. However, since they haven't issued an official statement about the hack, there's a possibility that no hack has occurred. I'm not aware of any users who have complained about a loss of their balance, but AFAIK, there haven't been any complaints. Perhaps some users haven't seen the news or heard the rumors that may be affecting their operations, which is why they might not be taking it seriously.

It's very likely that this is just FUD, a tactic to spread panic now that the market is in bullish mode.

Yeah, FTX was FUD, Celsius was FUD, MtGox was FUD, you do realize that if you label everything you don't like as FUD you end up like an ostrich with his head in the sand who thinks everything is fine even though on the surface a dingo is already marinating his ass?

I prefer not to draw any conclusions, as the exchange itself hasn't confirmed that a hack has indeed occurred. Besides the article we previously read, there are no other reliable sources that can confirm the incident, and it's possible that coins.ph is attempting to keep this matter hidden. Until they issue an official announcement, I'm skeptical that it has happened. However, it is concerning that they haven't provided sufficient reassurance to their community to prevent people from panicking.

It's very likely that this is just FUD, a tactic to spread panic now that the market is in bullish mode.
If its just a fud why don't they say so, instead dodging giving straight answer?

They have responded, but the reply wasn't entirely satisfying, as it seemed like an automated message assuring the safety of funds. Therefore, it's a matter of personal choice whether to trust their response or engage in speculation. Ultimately, it's up to us how we approach this matter.
753  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there a formula for Bitcoin starters? on: October 23, 2023, 03:58:59 AM
Some even make super bullish predictions, like Bitcoin reaching $1 million each or $1 per Satoshi in the future. It's definitely possible, so get started now and stop asking too many questions.
$1 per satoshi?

Bitcoin Units tell me that 1 bitcoin = 100,000,000 satoshi. If 1 satoshi worths $1, 1 bitcoin worths $100M.

Is it possible?

I want to be rich with Bitcoin so I want to see 1 bitcoin = $100M but I honestly, think it is impossible.

It's possible... "IF"

If Bitcoin takes over and becomes the new global currency, with real-world use expanding, and its limited supply, you can bet the price is gonna shoot up. But $1 for 1 Satoshi? That's like a best-case scenario, and it won't happen overnight, that's for sure.

There are some discussions about that in the forum in and reddit, you might wanna check.

Can 1 satoshi be worth $1 in the future?
Do y’all ever think that one Satoshi (0.00000001 bitcoin) will eventually equal $1.00?
754  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Nigeria socialite went all in on this sport bet on: October 22, 2023, 10:55:30 AM
He's a billionaire, so I'm pretty sure that ticket he shared hasn't been edited, LOL.

Honestly, I don't see why this news is such a big deal. Any billionaire could throw around huge sums of money on bets, and we shouldn't be too shocked by that. They're on a whole different level from us regular people. Maybe one day, if we become billionaires, we'll do the same and consider ourselves celebrities in the gambling world.

I'm curious if this guy who won his bet would also share a losing bet. I mean, Drake lost a hefty chunk of change when he bet on Paul to KO his opponent, and the whole world knew about it. So what's the deal here?
755  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there a formula for Bitcoin starters? on: October 22, 2023, 10:18:24 AM
The formula is pretty simple, especially if you're looking at long-term investment. With the upcoming bull run, the best strategy is consistent investing. Whether it's on a weekly or monthly basis, put in what you can afford to lose from your real-life income into Bitcoin. We can't predict the exact price when we hit a new all-time high, but we might be looking at a potential 10x return on your investment. So, stay optimistic and don't get discouraged if you're starting with a small amount. The price of Bitcoin doesn't have any limits. Some even make super bullish predictions, like Bitcoin reaching $1 million each or $1 per Satoshi in the future. It's definitely possible, so get started now and stop asking too many questions.
756  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coins.ph hacked, $6 million lost? on: October 22, 2023, 02:46:42 AM
It's surprising that no reliable news outlets have reported on this incident yet, despite it happening yesterday. The amount lost is quite substantial, and one would expect it to be covered by popular TV stations like ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA. However, there's been no news from these sources. I even tried searching on YouTube and couldn't find any reports from those channels. It's very likely that this is just FUD, a tactic to spread panic now that the market is in bullish mode.

I only became aware of the news when I read it on Bitpinas the leading Philippine article site that is dedicated to anything Cryptocurrency in the Philippines, on mainstream media, it's not even mentioned but they mention it if it's related to other payment processors they always broadcast it.
The amount is huge but based on their statement it is manageable, but a loss is still a loss they have not been addressing the issues, and the news is all coming from other exchanges or sources and not from Coins.ph.
This is pretty confusing. How on earth can they say the loss is manageable when they haven't even confirmed if a hack happened? Saying that almost makes it sound like a hack did go down, and they're just keeping it under wraps for some reason.

I understand Coins.ph claims to have millions of active users and the worst that could happen is for them to panic which will cause massive withdrawals, the PR management of Coins.ph is not giving the real picture of what really happened and this led to speculation, but so far all the features are available I just withdrew funds from my dashboard and checking all the coins listed and all are functional, withdrawal, deposits and trading are all good.

It's a simple fix for this potential issue - just be straight with the folks, tell the truth. If there hasn't been a hack, they should put out a public statement to clear up all this FUD.
757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin for everyone? on: October 22, 2023, 02:32:29 AM
Sure, Everyone can invest on Bitcoin but Bitcoin is not for everyone. Not everyone gets what Bitcoin is and has the financial capacity to dive into it. The golden rule of investing is to only risk what you can afford to lose, and sadly, not everyone's living the high life. In places where poverty's a big issue, folks often prioritize putting food on the table over investments, so they're kinda out of the game for now. But let's not forget, countries can turn the tide on their economies, so the door's not closed forever.

There are also people who've got the money to invest but haven't quite wrapped their heads around the whole crypto scene, so it's not their thing either, at least for the moment. What really matters is that the opportunity's out there, and it's just a matter of time for some folks.

First of all, $6M is not such a big amount, it's actually just a drop in the ocean when considering the entire crypto market. Second, Coins.ph is a local exchange, primarily popular in the Philippines and relatively unknown in the rest of the world. According to CoinMarketCap, it is ranked on 470th place with a daily volume of just over $650,000 (approximately 22 BTC).

Moreover, if these allegations are merely FUD, why haven't they denied them yet? Also, what about the "Your funds are SAFU!" statements on Twitter?

I was referring to the news from the local TV stations, and that's why I specifically mentioned the station names. These three stations are among the biggest in the Philippines, and the absence of any reports about this incident is quite surprising, especially considering that coins.ph is the first and largest local exchange in the Philippines.

760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: October 21, 2023, 08:22:54 AM
It's true that mixers aren't designed for money laundering, but due to their potential for obfuscating transactions, people often assume they are used for that purpose. I wonder how many mixers have been shut down or had funds seized by the government. Unfortunately, these actions can tarnish the reputation of the entire industry, if we can even call it that.

However, those who have a good understanding of Bitcoin know that it's not completely anonymous anymore. Once the source address is known, it becomes easier to trace transactions associated with a specific account. There are individuals who highly value their privacy, especially if they hold a substantial balance in their wallet. They don't want their funds to be easily traceable. That's where mixers come into play, offering a way to enhance privacy. Still, it's important to note that mixers can't prevent malicious actors from using them, as mixers don't typically investigate the source of funds.

In my quest to understand more about mixers, I did some research, and here's what I found.

Quote
Are cryptocurrency blenders legal?

Crypto mixers are not inherently illegal, though they are used for illegal activity. According to a July report from Chainalysis, cryptocurrency mixers are a “go-to tool for cybercriminals dealing in cryptocurrency” and illicit addresses account for nearly a quarter of funds sent to mixers since January.
In the U.S., the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) considers mixers to be money transmitters under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) that need to be registered and meet certain requirements. Chainalysis, however, noted in its report that it is “not aware of any bitcoin or Ethereum mixers currently following these rules.”
https://www.coindesk.com/learn/are-crypto-mixers-legal/

The way I understand it, they want mixers to comply with specific requirements before they can be considered legal. However, are there any mixers currently in operation that are legal?
