I went to the fun show this weekend and it was NUTS. ...
Crazy her in Wisconsin also. I keep kicking myself for not building 2 AR's. Which was my original plan. If I had, I would sell one and not only pay for the first, but make a profit. I'm just glad that my first thought a few weeks ago was to buy a set of P-Mags. Today they are 70ish?
7703  Economy / Speculation / Re: why this rally? on: January 17, 2013, 09:27:38 PM
I'm not exactly sure why. But there is growth on all fronts. Look at how many people are on this forum at the moment. The cat is out of the bag!
7704  Economy / Goods / Re: Come in and Trade Ammo or Talk about Guns! on: January 17, 2013, 08:10:26 PM
getting a carry/some shooting/home defense basically an all in one what caliber to get? 9mm .40 .45 ? why?
The common wisdom is to go with the largest caliber you can fire in a controlled and accurate manor. Personally I like 9mm. I could go bigger, but I like a lot of accuracy, and with the new ammo types (such as +P ammo) it has plenty of stopping power.  You may also want to consider defensive ammo like Glaser ammo. This is what I normally carry. It has low penetration which is important for the safety of others. You don't want to shoot an intruder and find that your bullet went on to kill your neighbor.

The best training advice I got while learning CC was to try it at home first. Try carrying it for 500 hrs. at home and you will discover a lot about how to hide your weapon, sit in a chair, use the rest room, etc.

7707  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Count down to Iran invasion on: January 16, 2013, 08:24:04 PM
It seems much more likely that Iran hijacked the command interface and took control of the drone, or it crashed. The system described above is theoretical and no known example of it exists.
7708  Economy / Goods / Re: Come in and Trade Ammo or Talk about Guns! on: January 16, 2013, 08:12:19 PM
Can we even sell Ammo? Legally I mean? Serious question.
Yes. With the exception of a few places like Chicago, there you need a FOID card.  But most of America is still free and one need only be 18.
7709  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gun freedom advocates - what weapons shouldn't be legally available? on: January 16, 2013, 07:03:35 PM
The police are great at figuring out who killed you, not preventing your death.
7710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The hoarding problem on: January 16, 2013, 02:52:14 PM
P.S. I added the " * " to the word basically to avoid the math details. I do understand it cannot be truly divided infinitely, but enough to accommodate a lot of money.
7711  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The hoarding problem on: January 15, 2013, 08:18:24 PM
I find this concept is hard to explain to people, but the price of bitcoins and the number of bitcoins is irrelevant. If say half of all bitcoins were lost suddenly then the market would adjust. Assuming the same demand, the remaining coins would simply be worth twice as much. Since they are *basically infinitely divisible this is easy to accomidate.
Compare it to gold again. If half the worlds gold were to disappear then it's scarcity would be higher and so would the price. This could be true even if there were so little gold that it were traded in atoms instead of ounces.
7712  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The hoarding problem on: January 15, 2013, 06:57:29 PM
That must be why gold has become valueless. People hoard it.

TwigsVii, it looks like you know what your doing. I only dissuaded you because many new peers start out thinking that their home gaming systems are going to make them rich.  If you just want to try it out and can risk your investment, then it might be fun.

Cheers.

Welcome fellow peer,
Hey, do you take bitcoins for charter services? That might be interesting, and I don't think any other airlines are taking BTC... yet.
7718  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for advice/looking to invest. on: January 14, 2013, 06:51:52 PM
If you are looking to profit from bitcoin, you may want to look beyond mining.
7719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I persuade local businesses to start accepting bitcoin ? on: January 14, 2013, 06:47:52 PM
I have convinced a local business with the following idea:

Put a few items for sale at a special price. This allows a business to try it out while mitigating the risk of suddenly turning all their stock into bitcoins. They can control how much of their business will be bitcoin based. If it works out then they can increase the number of items for sale. I would show them how to convert to $ and where to spend BTC. I would additionally  encourage them to keep some coins and watch them grow in value.
Also, remind them that price is still a factor. Few are going to pay a premium for the right to use bitcoin. It's just money, supply and demand still applies.
7720  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Spotting a sociopath on: January 14, 2013, 05:05:14 PM
The most important thing is that sociopaths do not "feel" remorse and cannot sympathize with the emotions of others. That makes them more likely to act without consideration for others. It does not mean they are necessarily dangerous, but seeing someone in emotional pain will not be a factor in their decisions.
