I assume they are embarrassed that they have been proven wrong and rather than admitting this, they are dubbing down. One need look no further than religious zealots, Obama birthers, UFO researchers, etc., to see this type of self delusion. It is in the nature of the absolutist mindset. This is why the world is changed by those who can be self critical, while the rigid stand by saying "This is not happening!".
8522  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sheriff's investigators release initial findings on Obama eligibility on: April 03, 2012, 11:59:32 PM
This is soooo silly. Believe me, if there was a liberal plot to take over the world, I would be involved. The impulse to fantasize about this kind of thing comes from the same people who see a tiny light in the sky and assume the least likely possibility. It must be aliens!
You guys need to spend more time reading books by smart people and less time watching crap TV written by idiot hacks. You do realize TV is a real conspiracy? A conspiracy to get you to watch commercials.

Want to get your state to legalize weed? Cut them in on the profits. As poor a reason as it is, the tax revenue is why states like CA are allowing it.
Loudmouths with no understanding will try arguing that it is for health reasons. If that were the case then why the hell would tobacco and alcohol be legal? Others will say that it is because of an association with crime. Nice circular reasoning there. Make something illegal then say only criminals use it.
The "drug war" started when I was in high school. Since then it has only hurt a lot of people. It has not stopped anyone from using, or even raised the price much. What a total boondoggle! The real question is not why legalize it, rather why is it illegal in the first place?

Personally I'm looking at opportunities in Africa in the mobile phone market.

I would bet the best opportunity where this relates to Bitcoin would be in areas where remittance payments are commonly received and there also exists is a mobile phone where domestic person-to-person payments is done without huge fees.  Thus in a village, for example, there would be demand for one or more individuals who could perform exchange from Bitcoin to the local mobile currency and then make the payouts to the recipient via mobile.

Perhaps in Asia  as well -- like the Philippines and elsewhere?
agreed. Bitcoin based remittance is such a good idea that I'm surprised it is not being done now. Or maybe it is? When I travel one of the things I do is check for peers in the country I'm visiting. It's a chance to meet interesting people and perhaps turn some BTC into local currency.  Wink

@cbeast - Let's take it to the next stage!
8525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ~ junk bonds on: March 28, 2012, 07:49:13 PM
Bitcoin is not at all like bonds, junk or otherwise.

Bitcoin is a commodity with no counter-party risk.
Bonds are debt-obligations with counter-party risk.

If one must compare Bitcoin to something already in existence, the best comparison is to gold or silver, with the primary difference being that Bitcoin is far more volatile, and has nowhere near the long proven track record of the others.

A Bitcoin is an asset - it is a thing which one possesses. It has value due to its properties which make it useful. Every Bitcoin is uniform to every other, and thus it is a commodity (call it a digital commodity if you wish) just like gold, silver, oil and rice.
That is an excellent short answer. TY bro!

By posting literate, topical and friendly material; I'd say your off to a good start.
Welcome fellow peer. Cheesy

Ya know, I have become an atlas fan. Even though some of the topics are provocative to the point of absurdity. It is good to challenge ones ideas and beliefs. He does keep the conversation going.   Wink

It's not that he doesn't talk about things that don't matter, it's that he talks about them from the voice of a teacher, but instead of answering questions, either:

  • responds with a question
  • shows his ignorance

In any real world situation, people would just walk away from him. I submit that by posting in ANY thread, he is harassing us.
I hear what your saying. I find much of his content sophomoric. But Just as the ancient Greeks looked to the rantings of a drugged up teen aged girl for advice (the Oracle of Delphi), maybe it can inspire a new perspective?
8528  Economy / Economics / Attention venture capitolists: Gearing up for crowdfunding on: March 28, 2012, 07:26:04 PM
The more I learn about the crowdfunding bill the more I think many of you would be into it. Among the funding portals that are popping up, I like GrowVC. There you can see the ideas people are pitching for startups or you can connect with funders who want to help you make your business ideas come true, for a profit of course. I have posted an article about bitcoin in the talks section, if you set up an account feel free to add to the discussion. There are a lot of economy geeks there and some very smart experts on the topic of entrepreneurship.
Personally I'm looking at opportunities in Africa in the mobile phone market. I am also looking for small startups near my home, something I could visit and get to know.
I plan on making my next successful investment via this system, check it out and we will bum rush them with BTC ethics. www.growvc.com

I also have to laugh at the term "Angel investor". I have done a bit of that myself and have friends who do it for a living. None of us are angels. Since when are angels motivated by profit.  Roll Eyes
8532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.S. CrowdFunding Bill Passes, CAPS Advisory Panel on: March 26, 2012, 04:42:24 PM
Thanks for the update on this. I kinda wrote off this legislation and assumed that moneyed interests would crush it. I set up an account at one of the funding portals so that I will be in position. I encourage other bitcoin peers to do the same, we could turn a lot of people on who are interested in money but have not heard of BTC.
It's also a great place to see ideas that are out there and think about who you would invest in directly.   I'm at www.growvc.com , but there are others.
8533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Satoshi ever spend his Bitcoins? on: March 26, 2012, 03:28:04 PM
As far as I know Satoshi doesn't own a single bitcoin.

I used to lead a beta team and I have seen a lot of bug reports. I wish they all looked this good! Thanks for taking the time to so clearly report your problem. I'm adding you to my cool book.  Kiss
8539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security warning: trojan stealing coins, swapping C&P addresses on: March 22, 2012, 06:38:55 PM
So am I correct in assuming that a countermeasure could be verifying the address before sending? Or does it make the change in a way that is not visible to the user?
