7721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool is nearly empty, less than 0.2MB. People still paying more 200sat/byte on: November 10, 2020, 12:35:10 PM
Electrum wallet default transaction fee for 5 blocks below is still 200sat/byte. I believe that ain't newbie sending that transaction that using 200sat/byte for fee because personally I don't manual input transaction because I don't want to manually check the preferred fee based on mempool condition by the time I want to send transaction.

I am impressed that Electrum is so bad at fee estimation.

Sadly there isn't much a user can do, if he doesn't want to look at the mempool in a third party website. There are many good options, and you could get confirmed with a 1 sat/byte.
7722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool is nearly empty, less than 0.2MB. People still paying more 200sat/byte on: November 10, 2020, 03:19:17 AM
personally I don't manual input transaction because I don't want to manually check the preferred fee based on mempool condition by the time I want to send transaction.

Well, maybe you are rich and you don't mind paying 200 sat/vbyte, which is like 30 USD in a single transaction.

Even if I were rich I wouldn't waste 30USD in a transaction that could cost 0.03 usd just because you don't want to manually write "1" instead of just clicking ok.  Wink
7723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mempool is nearly empty, less than 0.2MB. People still paying more 200sat/byte on: November 10, 2020, 02:48:28 AM
I was taking a look at the mempool now and I noticed that.
Anyone could get a confirmation with 1 sat/byte. But there are a lot of transactions paying 20,30,200, even 400 sat/byte.

I don't know if those transactions are miners spamming the network, or just newbies using blockchain.info and similar wallets?

You can see the mempool

[DeFi] on: November 09, 2020, 07:34:06 PM

Talvez a EOS?

Ethereum promete inovar, ainda nao inovou.
7726  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: A longa estrada para a privacidade. on: November 09, 2020, 07:07:59 PM

E a generosidade de vocês me fez também aparecer no ''The future of Bitcointalk: Low Ranking Top Merit earners in the past 30 days''.

You are correct.

I use %d-%m-%Y, %H:%M:%S

I changed to default and I can see now values which make sense:

That's weird. Your merits are showing correctly for me. Can you post a larger screenshot - how does the merit list look like?

I am using ublock Plus and Privacy Badger. I disabled both and it shows the same results.
I am using Microsoft Edge

And your chrome version extension (alpha version)

I tried with firefox. Different bug (alpha version as well).
ublock and privacy badger as well.

Instead of using a font with several colors, if you make it in a 3D stack it will make it easier to read the data and place updates.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The graphic is basically 1D now. I could make it 2D, but I cannot visualize a way to make it better. Maybe a waterfall chart? Something like that?

The blue bars would be the fee rates and green the total mempool size. I can try to make something like that.

There is no waterfall chart in the chart library I am using, so it will be somewhat challenging to make it. But it may be useful and it is a good idea to add another dimension.

Since we are talking about Plotting that contains a range of uncertainty, why should it not be in levels with (up & down) range rather than a value?

I don't think there is  uncertainty.
The transaction fee paid for the transaction is certain, and their sizes are certain as well. Everything is registered in a sigened transaction, valided by full nodes and is in the mempool just waiting for confirmation.

The graphic is a raw mempool data, the transactions are just grouped by fee rates.

Quote
Is the data updated continuously or do I need to click on refresh button.
That's a good ideia. I will make it update every minute (the data from the API is updated once a minute)
7731  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Exaggerated Fee on blockchain ($134) on: November 09, 2020, 01:55:53 PM
If we look at the mempool when the last block was mined, then 4 sats/vbyte would put you 0.1 MB from the tip. 5 minutes later and with only 0.5 MB of new transactions, it is now 250 sats/vbyte to get 0.1 MB from the tip. This is completely stupid. Every single one of those transactions could have paid 4 sats/vbyte and confirm just as quickly.

I believe those closed source and newbie-friendly wallets, such as blockchain.info, might receive some benefit from miners to suggest those fees.

They usually add a bunch of warnings and alerts saying that fee customization is an advanced feature and unless he is an "advanced user" he should use the suggest fee (which might be like 10-20 times higher than the safe confirmation fee)

Quote
Customize your transaction fee (for advanced users only)
Custom transaction fees should only be set by users with an advanced understanding of transactions and bitcoin fees. Setting too low of a fee may cause your transaction to remain unconfirmed for days or weeks. Please customize your transaction fee at your own risk.

To specify a custom transaction fee, click Customize Fee in the bitcoin send screen and enter your chosen fee in sat/b.

If everyone took 30 seconds to look at the mempool, it would save them and everybody else a lot in fees.
The problem is that it is not that easy for newbies to look at the mempool. There aren't a lot of websites that show the mempool. I know about 5 or 10 (at the most).
It would be cool to see a wallet that somehow showed the mempool before sending
7732  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] BPIP Extension - user info add-on / extension for Firefox, Chrome, et al on: November 09, 2020, 12:50:22 PM
Congratulations again for the extension. It is very good.
It is amazing to see the integration between different projects from different people.

I have just a few suggestions:
- Why can't the old extension just update? I was using the last version of Chrome extension and it just stopped working. I didn't know about this new version, very different one.
If you can't update, isn't it possible to send a message from the extension requesting the updatE?

- I saw a bug here:

The 24h amount is wrong. My 24h is just one sent merit.
Actually, i believe it all wrong, except for today Smiley

I was to sent to the URL
https://loyce.club/profiles/155/1554927.html Error 404
Fixed Smiley I've put back the (old) files at that location (for now).

Vou voltar pra pista . kk
7734  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Exaggerated Fee on blockchain ($134) on: November 09, 2020, 12:42:02 PM
https://mempool.space/ this site shows the transactions stats in real time?
Yeah, it is real time. Its low/medium/high priority suggestions are some of the most accurate that I have found, so if you are looking for a site to just tell you a fee to use, then it's probably your best bet. They seem to correspond to somewhere around 1.2 MB from the tip, 0.8 MB from the tip, and 0.3 MB from the tip, respectively.

Having said all that, I still think there is no real substitution for learning how to read the mempool yourself and decide where you want your transaction to go. Fee estimators generally only estimate based on a current snapshot of the mempool and do not take in to account the recent mempool trend. If I want to be in the next block or two and the mempool is rapidly filling, then I might want to aim 0.1 MB or even less from the tip. If, on the other hand, there are very few transactions being broadcast at the moment, then I might be happy to go 1 MB or more from the tip. At the moment, that difference is between 80 sats/vbyte and 15 sats/vbyte, but could be even more pronounced, which could translate to a saving of several dollars or more.

This website is very good.

I agree that the most important thing is to learn how to read the mempool. This is why observing the mempool in a chart like that, with the transactions grouped by fee rate, is the best way to determine what is the most cost-effective fee to pay.

I did something very similar to what mempool.observer did here.

You can select a fee per byte and plot your transaction in the mempool. Then you will see how many blocks (or bytes) you are away from confirmation. The mempool is very quiet now, and a 1-2 sat/byte fee would be enough for  a quick conffirmation

https://mempool.space/ this site shows the transactions stats in real time?

Yes, in real time. But it is important to notice that there is no such thing as "the mempool" (as the website says). What does this means? That some other nodes might have a differnet mempool, with other transactions that the node from mempool.observer don't have.
But overall it is enough precision.

Edit:
If you look at the graphic, you can see that there are still a lot of people paying more than 50 sat/byte in a transaction (even 176 sat/byte). They could get a next block confirmation with 3 sat/byte, but their software somehow told them to use a higher fee.

There is a big problem with education regarding fees imo. People don't know what fee to use.

I am now a BTC maximalist. I used to hold a lot of different coins as well, just like nuthilda. But now I hold only 2 altcoins. Ethereum and Chainlink, and just a very small amount.

I am impressed that so many people are holding chainlink.

I hold chainlink as well, but I don't think it has too much space to grow anymore. Too much speculation around it.

Oracles are certainly a game changer in cryptocurrency world. If all oracles fail, probably ethereum will fail as well. If any other oracle succeed before chainlink, chainlink will certainly fail as well. There are too many risks now. I believe the coin is overvalued, but I don't know much so I keep holding some Smiley

Flexible staking (you can stake the coins supported by Binance, enjoy interest and withdraw at any time)
Hold BNB to receive airdrop SXP token
and many other ways.
Maximum profit is never redundant.

I am always afraid to put a lot of money in exchanges. Receive that interest by giving up the custody of your coins is a risky.

There are so many horrible histories of people who lost funds in Mt. Gox or some other exchanges.

Let's no forget that Mt. Gox was even bigger than binance in market share.

I am testing latest alpha BPIP extension and I like it so far, but I have any question regarding loyce.club and L icon.
Whenever I click on L icon it is opening 404 Not Found The page you're looking for doesn't exist error page.

Is that happening only in my case, or for everyone?

PS
It would be cool to also have letter N for ninjastic website Wink

I saw this error as well when I click the "L" in my profile page.

It looks like an easy to fix error.

I was to sent to the URL
https://loyce.club/profiles/155/1554927.html Error 404
the correct one is:
