One of my theories as to why the hash rate has seen a fairly sudden drop over the last week or so is that some of the botnets are moving on to other ventures/being caught etc.

Can't agree, I think that professional miners hopping, not botnets. Or maybe I don't know about some profitable cpu-mineable coins. I still believe that XMR is a miracle for CPUs so far.

As said just a theory. I guess in reality in regards to whether the coins are being sold straight away or held professional miners and botnets do mostly the same thing.

Exactly, miners usually mine and dump, it does not matter who and how.

Is there a way to make Monero botnet proof?

Yes, by making computers botnet proof

I don't think botnets are that big of an issue.

But there is no user with name ric_000, what's going on?..

Well, I deleted p2pstate.bin and poolstate.bin (again...) - and here is the miracle: everything looks fine... Strange coin...

ric_000 is a user who compiled daemon binaries. Path stored in binaries. Nothing strange. I am sure ric is fluffypony.

787  Economy / Gambling / Re: DirectBet – LIVE Sportsbook & Racebook. Rated # 1 by Bitcointalk Members ! on: November 17, 2014, 06:36:26 PM
Monero passed darkcoin in one hour, as expected.

Directbet should take into consideration thinks like market cap and advantages of the coin, not only many Monero shill accounts
voting for it.

Darkcoin has higher market cap, is traded at biggest BTC exchange bitfinex (bitfinex.com -> only BTC, LTC and Darkcoin .... no monero or other scamcoins).

Can you show me the emission curve of DRK? Ah, pool of bagholders prefer to not talk about it.

Sure, Monero.

It is OK to pick someone coin,  without his consent? I think NO.  Huh

lol...actually this is the whole point of decentralised cryptocurrency. Cheesy

Yes. Without his consent.

I have't sync this for a long time and I download the newest blackchain to rync than get this information

help!!

"143.239.71.1" peer stuck on fork and trying to synchronize. RPC errors are independent. Stop daemon, delete p2state.bin & poolstate.bin, start daemon, run wallet again.
791  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 16, 2014, 12:00:42 PM

This transaction is not on the blockchain but the the coins are not in my wallet.

How can I recover my monero?

Assuming you have wallet.bin and wallet.bin.keys, keep *.keys, delete .bin. Then run simplewallet again and it will re-read blockchain. Coins will be in wallet again.
792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [POOL][XMR] hashinvest.net Monero Pool 2% fee | EU | Instant Support on: November 15, 2014, 08:02:36 PM
Sorry. Been there and switched somewhere else.

Reason? I get, on your server, a lot of connection timeouts. Maybe because I am a very small miner, I don't know.
Maybe I'll check again someday...

I guess cpuminer-multi? If there is no shares and long block in network it will disconnect (IIRC 2 min.). Weird. Some pools cheating with it, I just let it happen. You will get your shares eventually. Variance come from miners, not from a pool.
793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 15, 2014, 07:10:53 PM
The fact that there is no user friendly wallet to use should make you realize how early to the game we are, accumulate while you can.

Yes. I do understand.

I am anyway unable to run any Monero-wallet properly, so I has to store my coins in an exhance. That is a risk. I am willing to buy more monero, but just after I am able to store them safely to my own GUI-wallet and/or parer wallet. Does anyone have any knowledge when Monero GUI-wallet will be available? Specially for linux?

Two months ago it was told to be few weeks ahead. What about now?

Without blockchain database GUI wallet does not make much sense. Good job done on database implementation. We all just have to be patient. I am waiting for GUI too, but I am very happy that core devs were busy fixing security and implementing essentials instead.
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is there anything worth mining anymore? on: November 14, 2014, 07:56:07 PM
I miss the good ole days where you had lots of choices of moderately profitable coins. Now it is a sea of shit Sad

Probably Monero. Depends on your costs.

798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 09, 2014, 04:55:57 PM
It would be foolish not to consider the competitive danger of an "anonymous" cryptocurrency with both a network effect advantage as well as a sable codebase, a working disk based database and a user friendly front end at a time when dark markets are learning they are once again vulnerable because of public blockchains.

The iron may be getting hot.

Monero needs to be ready to strike.

I am sure, Monero is very solid even now, this group of experienced developers doing great job. New features like database and official GUI wallet will open it for a lot of new users. IIRC it's on the way too and this wallet is not yet another garage rpc frontend.

Hey Guys, question. I'm interested in running a monero pool. Ive been playing around with node-cryptonote-pool in ubuntu and I set it up. I'd like to now see if I can get it working in a windows computer. Can the pool run on a Windows 7 Pro pc? (reason I ask is that my windows 7 pc is faster and newer).

Don't think so, this is not plain JS code, you have to compile extensions like https://github.com/zone117x/node-multi-hashing. Not sure it will compile by default without tweaks. I guess you wanna run it for soloing? Then better install a VM or rent some cheap VPS with enough amount of RAM.
