Aeon, do you have any connection to Bytecoin or the Cryptonote team?

I was wondering if they are the same as behind mountcoin, and horizoncoin, from presidentcoin AKA eldin hadzic

Would it make you feel better if we had a contest for a new name chosen by the community?

I also wonder what you think should happen when the original developer doesn't even bother with critical security fixes and declares the coin "discontinued"? Should I attack the coin instead of taking over fixing it when they don't?

A currency is the property of its users. Sometimes a gangster mafia will take over as with the usd, or a greedy leech will try to suck the life out of what he cannot otherwise profit from, as with the aeion dev.

Take over the coin. Fuck the greedy conman douche who created the coin only for his own profit.

He can learn a lesson in what decentralized is.

To be honest I would rather name and shame the original dev. This coin is resilient and despite the original devs greed, there is a community stepping up to try and revive this coin, thats something I really admire!!!

Community take overs whether "hostile" or assisted by the original dev(s) are important as a proof of concept for decentralised cryptocurrencies.

Update release candidate feedback requested

Please leave feedback about the update release candidate I announced a few days ago.

If no problems are uncovered we will proceed to a release stage with binaries soon.

The feedback about the wallet and other ideas is great. I have some interesting and exciting ideas for this coin. Since we are a small community we can try things that are a bit too radical for bigger coin like Monero. Stay tuned and please keep the ideas flowing!

BTW, in response to the comments about including a non-anonymous coin in a wallet, that is not necessary since cryptonote can also be used non-anonymously. Transparency and audit features, when desired, are part of the protocol.

Not sure if you are still looking for feedback but I compiled it and its syncing now (120 days to go). Created a wallet. Its all good. I'll let you know if anything pops up.

If you start a new one and post the link everyone will follow. Or is it better the dev does it so the original post with links can be updated?

Yes. Without his consent.

Quote
Aeon is an experiment whether open-source practices would work well with cryptocurrencies. The developers strongly rely on the community to decide on further development and services integration. Aeon's goal is to make CryptoNote simple and accessible for everyone.
