After two weeks, suddenly Armory doesn't load up properly any more. The GUI hangs at "preparing databases". The shell says -ERROR - iGx: (SwigClient.cpp:61) ser/deser type error: expected type id: 4 got type id: 0 instead
..with changing random bytes in the first line. Armorydb is on a remote host. I didn't change anything that I know of lately. Anything I can do except updating to 0.06.4R1? Thank you, ente It's trying to register with the DB and gets an empty message in return. Make sure the http daemon is running properly. Alternatively you can 0.96.4 and get rid of the http daemon part. Oops, of course you are right, my armorydb service stopped.. Thanks, now I know how that looks like too! :-) Cheers, Ente

"BTC" is in use by the community since 2009. "XBT" is closer to ISO norm, as things like gold are abbreviated "XAU" (AU for aurum/gold). So some people started reserving "XBT" themed domains, others used "XBT" as ticker symbold when integrating bitcoin somewhere where other tickers/currencies/stocks etc are listed.
In the end, as achow101 said, it doesn't matter to the network what the units are called, if you call the smallest unit "satoshi" and what color the "B" has in the logo ;-)
Cheers,

The funding engine continues to have errors. Notably when you issue an auto renew, it doesn't always execute. You can have money sitting around for a day (or who knows how long - as I manually re-issue the offers to fix it). The funding engine has never worked perfectly since April 2011. I file about three support tickets per year regarding ongoing funding engine issues.
I haven't examined funding interest, but it is interesting that two parts of the engine appear to be buggy.
why do you continue to use this shitty exchange? I suppose because of somewhat advanced tools (margin, leverage, lending etc) you don't find everywhere and because of liquidity. Ente

Is there any advantage of using FCGI over not using it?
Comparing FCGI to what? FCGI or nothing: You only need FCGI for connecting a remote armorydb with armoryqt. FCGI or http-server in between: Not exposing the FCGI directly, but having a http server in between (on the same machine as armorydb) is a security plus. Ente

Unless things have changed recently, I believe the user may also need to generate some extra addresses if they've used a lot of them. (I forget the default number generated.)
Both bitcoin-core and Armory use HD-wallets, i.e. an infinite stream of deterministic addresses are created from one seed in the wallet. No pre- or recreation of addresses any more, no periodic backups needed because new addresses would not be in the old backup. Ente

Just installed 0.96.3.99 (noasm version) on Kubuntu and running core 0.15. Imported my old Armory wallet files and the balances show up as 0.0.
Any pointers how I can fix this?
Wait until both bitcoin-core and armory are fully synced. Check the lower right corner of armory for status (offline, online, synced until what block). Ente

Damn, you are on fire! :-)
Interesting, now I might connect armory-db and armory-qt directly via FCGI? I was under the impression this is not the suggested way, and to always have some ngnix or comparable in between?
Cheers,

Are all 3 of the above required to compromise the private root? AFAIK no, any of those should be considered a compromise.
Are you safe from the above if you sign the BCH transactions offline, and just broadcast the transactions using a block explorer? Yes. That's what several here did, me included. Or broadcast with your own bcash node, if you have one. Ente

Any info out there about Bitfinex and segwit2x? They are neither on the segwit2x nor on the no2x lists. What does interest me more, however, is if they will help me to sell 2x-coins for Bitcoins. They had futures before, which even work before an actual hardfork. It's all different and more messy this time, if they go through with a hardfork with no replay protection. But I'm sure BitFinex has it on their radar for months and are figuring out how to enable trading of some kind.

..in one point bfg is right, though - Bitcoin, or decentralized blockchains in general, are horribly inefficient, an unbelievable waste of storagespace, computingpower and bandwith, and close to the worst possible kind of database. Armory, combined with bitcoin-core, is even worse, doubling some of the costs. ..and I won't ever switch to any other wallet software if I can avoid it.
OP/bfg: in case you tried to ask for help in your post, try to throw less feces around. Oh, and I'll buy your worthless, empty, shitty armory wallet for 0.1 Bitcoin :-P

Good to hear, thanks. Would you recommend creating new wallets for this? And/or will this coincide with the migration to the new wallet format?

Hey everyone, a new Bitcoin address format, bech32, was just merged into bitcoin-core: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/739pjb/bech32_address_format_merged_into_bitcoin_core/In short, an address now looks like bc1qrp33g0q5c5txsp9arysrx4k6zdkfs4nce4xj0gdcccefvpysxf3qccfmv3 with no case sensitivity any more, different first letters (bc1) and stronger checksumming/error detection (it now detects more spelling errors, and tells you where they are). Exciting, I'd love to switch to that address format. I suppose it's just a different representation of the same keys? Like, old wallets would just show the old addresses as a different string? Is this on the radar of Armory? Are there plans to support this? Cheers, Ente

Updating both a remote armorydb and a local armory client went smooth, on debian via git. Works fine with bitcoin-conr 0.15.0.1 now.
Thank you everyone.

-------- Privacy --------- Whether you have sent your coins to a KYC exchange or not, you want to cycle your wallets on the other chain afterwards, i.e. if you dumped BCH, you want to move all these coins on BTC chain to a fresh wallet.
The reason for this is that your public keys will be exposed on at least one chain. One of the security layers of Bitcoin is that public keys are behind hashes up until you spend the coin. Once you sign coins on one of the chains, you lose this layer. This is a major reason why you do not reuse addresses in Bitcoin. This is particularly relevant if you have coins in long term cold storage: cycle them if you touch the keys!
As for how to cycle your wallets, it depends on the scenario:
2) You used a non KYC exchange or some sort of cross chain swap scheme. You should move your coins to your new wallet utxo per utxo, or (1 in -> 2-3 outs), over the course of several weeks.
Could you elaborate on this? In what sense is BTC privacy compromised after dumping BCH? At the time of the fork, you had BTC and bcash 1:1 on the same addresses. So if someone learns your bcash addresses, she knows you have the same amount in BTC on the same BTC address. Prime example, of course, would be an exchange. They might learn your bcash = BTC addresses as well as your bcash = BTC holdings. Basically all the same as privacy concerning Bitcoin before. Ente

Does anyone have some recommendations of a non KYC exchange able to perform a few 1-10 BCH to BTC conversions without being scammed in the process?
Bitfinex has no KYC if you only deposit and withdraw crypto. You can send bcash there, convert to BTC, and withdraw BTC, all with no KYC. You can also trade to USD in between, just not use banktransfers up or down. I normally avoid exchanges, so I can't tell you about other options. Let me know if you want a 10% fee reduce code for Bitfinex for the first month ;-) Ente

NOW I understand. Bitfinex was cut off its US banks. That's the reason for all those shitcoins they trade now! Shifting from a fiat-btc exchange to a shitcoin-btc exchange. Maybe pump'n'dump by "we trade shitcoinXY now" as well Ente
